The claim that the smallest locality is not reported does not match how the report looks. For each front sector, it specifies which localities are involved in fighting; the only thing not detailed there is the number of battles per locality, instead, you get a total for the sector. Sometimes this matches the number of localities, sometimes it does not and exceeds it, which indicates more than one battle in a certain locality. This has been the case since 2022. In the beginning, it was only this information (which localities) and not the number of battles. This came later, perhaps at the end of 2022, 2023. Then the sectors, like a patchwork, cover the entire front from Belarus to at least Odessa; the situation hardly leaves room for any battle to arise outside this. 

I agree with you that the correlation between territory capture and the number of unlocated battles is a strong indication.

At the same time as Johan wrote yesterday, Syrkovsky’s statement for the first time links more Ukrainian battles over time with unlocated battles exceeding located ones for the first time. He refers in the interview from Ukrainian Militarny on YouTube to “yesterday,” and the interview is long and likely edited and is to be published on Ukrinform, so it may coincide with the day of the report. 

What you can be sure of, however, is that it is wrong to claim that Russian battles have been the same over a year, and you recently refer to the total. This is completely unfounded. There is nothing stating that the number of clashes describes only Russian attacks.

At the same time, it is not entirely illogical if they only report in detail for the main areas and do not bother to report everything in detail in case there are several battles in several smaller locations, etc.

So I don’t think that weighs that heavily.

However, it turned out that high numbers of unlocalized incidents corresponded quite well with when Russia had taken unusually little ground, or even lost ground.

That feels like a much stronger argument that the theory is correct.

It is proof that Ukraine is now attacking to a greater extent, but it is not necessarily proof that the unlocated ones are Ukrainian attacks, although it is definitely a strong indication that this theory is correct.
