I actually thought that Germany’s arms exports were larger. Or maybe it just shows that Sweden has a fairly large export considering our size. Sweden’s arms exports amounted to 29 billion SEK in 2024, up 69% compared to 2023.

Then a smoother solution would be to apply a 25% VAT on all goods in the USA, it’s almost the same as tariffs, right?
 
One problem for the USA is that they consume so many goods, and I remember seeing a figure stating that the richest ten percent of the population accounted for 50% of consumption. If that’s true, it means that the wealthy are contributing to a trade deficit for the USA. However, criticizing the population is not possible, just look at the uproar when Musk said that the USA relied on smart people coming there to work. I suspect that part of the criticism towards Europe lies there, justifying their own policies by criticizing Europe.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump wants Europe to buy American defense equipment to balance the trade and then lower tariffs.

Is it certain that all the figures are soldiers? Previously, there has been talk that primarily other personnel will be fired. Today, there is a shortage of about 40,000 soldiers after many quit due to the requirement for COVID vaccination.

It was the Democrats’ policy in the last area that gave Trump the victory. But if he messes up in all other areas, maybe one can hope for some kind of positive change.
