“Russia’s national welfare fund, built from revenues from the oil and gas industry, could be depleted by 2026 if current economic trends continue. This is shown in a report by economists at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy, as reported by The Moscow Times.

On June 1st, the fund had 2,800 billion rubles in liquid assets, equivalent to approximately 350 billion Swedish kronor. In 2022, before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the fund had 1,091 billion kronor. The decrease has also been accelerated by budget deficits and expensive infrastructure projects, writes Moscow Times.”
