Today, the mutilated bodies of two brothers that were tortured to death in the pre-trial detention area of a Russian prison were flown from Yekaterinburg back home to Azerbaijan.

Forensic experts in Baku concluded the Safarov brothers' manner of deaths, which is now straining Azerbaijan's already bitter relations toward the Russian terrorist state.

Daily Ukraine map thread for Tuesday 1st July 2025

Highlights: June was a pretty darn successful month for Ukrainian strikes, starting with the SBU Spider Web strikes at the Russian strategic bomber fleet on the 1st, and numerous other strikes over the course of the month. Russian forces only took the usual ~500 square kilometers again, and have been stopped for now in Sumy oblast.

At this point it's mainly manpower than Ukraine is failing at, can't take or hold a position without manpower but well, that's entirely on them to deal with that. Perspective is important. The map below shows how it looks at the end of June.

Ukrainian drone strike on Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant (Russian SAM production site) causes substantial damage, over 1,300 km away from Ukraine. Strategic targeting has improved dramatically over the course of the year.

Russian rail sabotaged in Zaporizhia yet again. That's three times this month.

Russian Su-34 downed due to mechanical issues near Savasleika airfield.

Ukrainian troops sighted in Andriivka, Sumy, showing Russian forces push back in Sumy.

Russian forces advance slightly over the Vovcha river to Dachne in Dnipropetrovsk oblast. Russian forces also advance east of Pokrovsk / Myrnohrad, which does put Ukrainian forces in a bit of a pickle, but it's slow.

Staff shortages on both sides, also at AFU, Russia has equipment problems (armor, my interpretation.). It is becoming increasingly common for Russia to attack in small motorcycle-borne groups of 2-3 people.

In June, the enemy occupied 556 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory, which is the worst indicator in 2025

Unfortunately, the dynamics of May continued in June. Let us remind you that in November, the most critical month for us, the Russians advanced by 730 square kilometers.

The largest advances were in the Novopavlivka and Pokrovsk sections — 29% and 27%, respectively. Sumy region is also among the leaders with 18%. That is, three-quarters of all advances were in three places. The last quarter falls on other sections of the front in almost equal proportions (4-6% per section).

The enemy's advances are due to personnel problems, which are critical for both sides at the moment. But the Russians obviously still have reserves of personnel. The decline in mechanized attacks is further confirmation of the enemy's problems with equipment, which they are trying to replace with motorcycles and buggies. And enemy assaults by forces of 1 or 3 infantrymen are no longer a rarity. At the same time, the number of these groups remains significant.
