Trump’s decision to import diesel from Russia faces strong opposition from several quarters, including in the US where both Democrats and Republicans are highly critical. “Will only lead to more bloodshed.” Lawmakers from both parties argued that the measure would undermine recently imposed sanctions against Russia, potentially give Moscow billions in revenue, and counteract Congress’s efforts to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine. Some lawmakers questioned whether the plan would actually lower fuel prices for Americans, and others say it is actually illegal.

In 2022, Joe Biden signed a law banning US imports of Russian energy products; the conditions for lifting the ban were tied to Russia agreeing to withdraw its troops from Ukraine.
“Congress banned imports of Russian energy in 2022. (The President) cannot just ignore that law to buy diesel from Putin,” said Senator Jeanne Shaheen, a Democrat on the Foreign Relations Committee. Kyiv Independent. We can only hope they can stop Trump and his imports.
