11:57 \u2013 Johan No.1<\/h2>\n

What makes one sit and write daily for over a year, below are my very modest reasons fully aware that many others have much stronger and more colorful ones.<\/p>\n

Sorry for the off topic and feel free to scroll past if it feels uninteresting or offensive \u2013 I will continue posting about Ukraine’s imminent smashing victory immediately, it is close now \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n

One almost grew up with the Soviet threat \u2013 parents’ worry in front of the TV with patrol boats in the fjords, vertol helicopters and corvettes. Everything was shades of gray, a Swedish fjord in late autumn looks quite unpleasant on its own.<\/p>\n

Russian submarine incursions came in the autumn \u2013 difficult with sonar when all layers were stirred up in the storms.<\/p>\n

Sweden probably had an active war under the surface during the 80s and a few years into the 90s, it started long before but peaked then. It was a difficult balancing act and realpolitik applied.<\/p>\n

This became some kind of indefinable threat that settled so strongly that I spent two years at Skalman unraveling the submarine incursions a few years ago. The biggest problem was that people who were involved in the events as conscripts still today do not dare to discuss what happened, not even on an anonymous forum, as they signed confidentiality documents after the events. It was 50 years ago\u2026<\/p>\n

A father’s attempt to get his son a bit better organized for mountain hikes and ski vacations took him via home guard youth (and scouts but it was way more fun with a Mauser than tying knots) to the military service as KB and a while after that before the air went out like when you release a hissing balloon roughly.<\/p>\n

During this very short military career, the Soviet\/Russian threat was the big and only threat \u2013 airborne landings on the Uppsala plains, landings in Oxel\u00f6sund, all friends did military service in various units. It was perhaps a time when conscription was still something you strived against \u2013 the bigger the challenge the higher the status?
\nI never understood what I1 was supposed to do because we were going both to Oxel\u00f6sund and then up to Uppsala and I1 was in between but they had probably started fighting among themselves already during mobilization or something.<\/p>\n

In Borensberg we crawled around in all the vehicles we now see destroyed. The films from Soviet exercises where the whole horizon was filled with vehicles were frightening \u2013 you were supposed to be overwhelmed by armor wave after wave, after the sabotage units had already killed one.<\/p>\n

Somewhat etched in from that time \u2013
\n-Mi-24 were deadly and almost impossible to knock out \u2013 the machine gun don\u2019t bother and you miss the grenade launcher anyway.
\n-Airborne landings that darkened the sky and they dropped the armored vehicles by parachute with the crew inside so just to land and roll.
\n-The Russians would knock out mobilization depots at dusk, complicate mobilization, cut key personnel.
\n-Spetsnaz had trained to kill live dogs \u2013 a meeting with them would end in chaos and we were never alert enough ever.
\n-\u201cthe steel on the MTLB is tough and almost impossible to penetrate, genuine Russian craftsmanship\u201d,
\n-\u201cBMP-1 has a 100mm low-pressure cannon that fires HEAT rockets \u2013 very dangerous and smart\u201d \u2013 and so on endlessly. <\/p>\n

Everything was damn smart and deadly with the Russians.<\/p>\n

The lieutenant chased us in all exercises until we learned to set up tripwires and empty cans around the vehicles and not fall asleep on guard \u2013 he grabbed one and screamed deaaath as loud as he could in the ear. Lucky to be young otherwise one would probably have had a stroke from being woken up that way.<\/p>\n

You were supposed to say \u201cbulle\u201d and if the person in your sights couldn\u2019t say \u201cbulle\u201d he was either Russian or from Sk\u00e5ne \u2013 and then you shot him in the stomach.<\/p>\n

You couldn\u2019t be told the Russians were completely useless \u2013 the best way to get a mechanized battalion in shape is probably to paint the biggest threat you can handle I think?<\/p>\n

Lifestyle is a bit much but one has lived intensely with Soviet, and later Russian, warfare during the years that shaped one into the daydreamer one is today (also stuck in the music and clothing style\u2026) and the feeling of seeing this collapse now is absolutely indescribable.<\/p>\n

Somewhat like going to an Iron Maiden concert today and seeing them struggle with squats or fingering an old Darth Vader from the original Hasbro and remembering how you stood in the toy store, which is now a Chinese restaurant, twisting and turning the packages with different Star Wars figures and realizing you would never get all on the back with the snail pace your parents bought the figures for you. ATAT was out of the question.<\/p>\n

I hadn\u2019t fled the field before CV90 and Strv121 came, I think Strv122 existed too but memory is not the best.<\/p>\n

Before these we had exercises against Centurion and Strv S (not all units got everything directly). You understand the increased capability from Pbv302, Centurion, Strv 103 and IKV91 when moving over to CV90 and Strv 122 \u2013 magnitudes better. There was hope for the future in mechanized and armor.<\/p>\n

The best delaying battle we managed was against some Sk\u00e5ne armor with Centurion, Strv103 and Pbv302. We were an armored infantry platoon and they a mechanized battalion (not full strength but you understand). We kept them occupied for a whole day in channelizing terrain with mobile combat until the last group was surrounded in a small forest tongue with open fields behind. Centurion had the barrels straight at us and the grenade launcher gunner fingered the trigger until the exercise leader blew off for the day, and gave A++.
\nThe rest of our side had been beaten before lunch and the exercise was apparently already over without anyone informing us.<\/p>\n

-you can achieve miracles with mobile combat and Ukraine does it every day in real combat risking their lives.<\/p>\n

At the same time it was probably the last breath where the great regimental death spread like a compact darkness \u2013 the war placement became as short as the military career.<\/p>\n

Russian Piranha got hit early 90s (I think) far inside Swedish territorial waters so the Russians didn\u2019t end their offensive operations immediately after 1989.<\/p>\n

And the navy tested Italian torpedoes where a torpedo at launch made a wide arc and locked onto the ship that fired it \u2013 great humor but not for the ship\u2019s crew.<\/p>\n

Then came the Russian rearmament, Russian Easter, all the parades, all the new materiel and analyses of the increasing Russian capability \u2013 the new, and much more dangerous, Russian threat (had one read LW one would have avoided much worry!). <\/p>\n

A threat from childhood that one trained against during the years that shaped one took off again in adulthood \u2013 but you don\u2019t just put troops on Gotland that cost a lot because it\u2019s windy, rains constantly and you don\u2019t understand what the locals say?<\/p>\n

(what a massacre it would have been at night if they still used the password bulle \ud83d\ude00).<\/p>\n

Besides these motives, it is the violence that Russia exerts on Ukraine that makes me completely furious and ensures high presence in the threads.<\/p>\n

The blog has done a lot for the pressure cooker when it comes to abuse that is not exactly “coffee break at work” talk or something you get excited about during Friday cozy time. The discomfort of hearing such things apparently feels stronger than Russia’s war of aggression on Ukraine for many, it seems, or maybe it\u2019s my staring gaze, that I don\u2019t respect safe space, shout-talk, and use my arms a lot when I speak.<\/p>\n

I can imagine how the Ukrainians feel after finally getting to retaliate after 200 years of Russian-style oppression.<\/p>\n

Finland, which has been bent under the Soviet shadow since 1945 and lives with the Winter War and the Continuation War. They might move on from just smiling with their eyes and soon the corner of their mouth might start to twitch as well.<\/p>\n

The Baltic states, the Poles, the Ukrainians, the Chechens, and so on with all the -stans who first gained their freedom in 1989. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, were forced to live out their lives in Siberian labor camps.<\/p>\n

The Russian dictatorship is a criminal clan and oppressive regime that has always committed violence against its neighbors in the most horrific ways, and apparently has a whole battery of sexual sadistic diagnoses.<\/p>\n

Torturing and murdering small children is a level most people cannot even bring themselves to reach (down!) to, but it seems to be like hanging out at the grill kiosk for the Russian army, for which they get medals.<\/p>\n

Someone in the thread posted the report on the injuries of a Latvian freedom fighter which, with its dry medical language, was horrific reading. Six holes in the eyeballs, probably from wire, one side of the sack torn open, testicles and leader torn out, and so on in all its horror. You understood the pain he went through during the days it took until he died.<\/p>\n

The five-year-old girl who was raped, tortured, and murdered in front of her mother who was then released, and the soldiers who laughed when she tried to take her own life and failed.<\/p>\n

The murdered seven-year-old girl who was dug up and had remains of seven (7) men inside her.<\/p>\n

The castrated prisoners of war.<\/p>\n

And how has the Russian dictatorship treated its own population all these years \u2013 ask Solzhenitsyn how fun the Gulag was.<\/p>\n

When history is written, we will learn all that has not yet come out and it will be magnitudes worse than what we know. How many actually live in Mariupol?<\/p>\n

I have no illusion that the country Russia will improve but if the -stans, UA and maybe some provinces can free themselves from the Russian yoke, it is a win. More than that would be great, of course.<\/p>\n

Their subversive activities eat up countries from within and bring out the worst in a country. Their candidates eventually win because the opposing candidates either disappear or commit suicide.
\n-If you have the FSB\/GRU\/SVR behind you in a democracy, it is easy to win.<\/p>\n

They thrive in chaos, corruption, evil, and all that we do not want in our democracies.<\/p>\n

Now the sharpest knives in the drawer are already considering how to classify the Russian regime or agencies as terrorists so that this subversive activity around the Western world can be dealt with under the well-developed anti-terror legislation.<\/p>\n

The free West must not become dictatorships in their will to fight dictatorships but the anti-terror legislation is there and all you need to do is classify organizations like the FSB, GRU, SVR and a few more, or the whole country if possible, as terrorist, so you can legally uproot this cancer. I believe every agency with a bit of self-respect has subversive or outright criminal activities in the West, namely, if you have violent capital and can get rich from it \u2013 why not.<\/p>\n

Why then \u2013 well, association with these organizations would then become punishable and you can get at those in the West who participate in Russia\u2019s subversive activities. They have to move money, rent housing, have contacts, internet subscriptions, and so on.<\/p>\n

This became the very definition of a people’s revolution (real communism) against the country Russia, supported by the citizens of the free West, the Ukrainian population has stood up as one man (and woman, and others!), volunteers have arrived more than they could officially deploy in units, and private initiatives have really made a difference, a crowd-funded satellite!<\/p>\n

Russia has always bluffed and bullied its way forward and gained great advantages they would never have had because they have been completely unscrupulous.<\/p>\n

Together with China, they are the last great colonial power that has been given a free pass.<\/p>\n

But then it ends as it does in the end too \u2013 you could probably write a children’s book about this like those old German ones when children overate and exploded and everything that was good for little children to hear.<\/p>\n

It is quite clear to me that this is heading towards the worst possible end for Putin and there is no reason to revise the end date as the summer is long.<\/p>\n

If the Russians try a spring offensive, they will become even weaker and get beaten even faster.
\nChina will never intervene.<\/p>\n

Ukraine has heavy weapons, soldiers, motivation, and ammunition for a crushing defeat of Putin \u2013 it is inevitable and the beginning of the end is here which is incredibly liberating, not least for all who have lived in the shadow of the criminal clan all these years. A geopolitical bomb that makes the world a better place.<\/p>\n

Brave new world on the other side \u2013 absolutely, and something one has lived quite intensely with has fallen like a stone. A liberating feeling and also why I have spent so much time in this thread over the past year, imagine if I had spent this time making money instead \u2013 the kids would have been draped in Lacoste from head to toe.<\/p>\n

Then Dengamle almost has to come back now, there was a person who attacked him so intensely that he completely lost interest but now this person is blocked in the thread. If he doesn\u2019t, I\u2019ll start trolling obituaries for people over 300 years old.<\/p>\n

I think Dengamle\u2019s exit is an excellent example of how some have sat in this thread and written others down just because they thought it was fun and that it has consequences. If you have a different opinion, just post your own post about what you think without attacking those you consider to have the “wrong” opinion with invectives or derogatory comments.
\nDiscussion on the matter and good tone work wonders.
\nThis thread probably lives as long as people find it fun to write, in my experience from previous discussions.<\/p>\n

Sorry for the off-topic, now the Russians have caused so much chaos again that there will be plenty of fun to write about going forward \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

If you write about that a bit, you should be able to get it published in some newspaper (unfortunately not everyone knows who DENGAMLE is).<\/p>\n

It was probably the same for the 70s, 80s, and 90s guys but I always find it striking how similar experiences you had in the military if you served in the same decade.<\/p>\n

Since I think the coastal and paratroopers are a bit cooler than the rest of us mortals, the paratroopers we had some overlap with when they trained for undbat or whatever they did in Borensberg and it was a bit of the higher division we other mortals felt \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n

I was working on a submission to the newspaper just before the Russians’ January 6 offensive which became obsolete and which I wrote about, and then their winter offensive went catastrophically badly, so I rewrote it but then all the pro-Ukrainian debaters started crying about Bakhmut so I began to doubt.
