Just wrote in yesterday\u2019s thread that the Dutch at work report that the Netherlands is in the final phase of agreeing with Denmark and Germany on F-16s for Ukraine, very close.<\/p>\n

Also remembered that UA has \u201cseveral dozen trained pilots\u201d so they are one air route away from being deployed in combat.<\/p>\n

No reason to distrust them so F-16s in UA after a while now seems confirmed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The details around the Azov attack near Bakhmut are becoming known and it\u2019s what we guessed \u2013 RU is low on armored vehicles in Bakhmut and Azov chased them around with infantry fighting vehicles and tanks like glorified bouncing prey.<\/p>\n

MT wrote this morning that Ukraine War report reports a shortage of close-range anti-tank weapons. It\u2019s a thesis we have pushed for a long time in the thread that they would have a shortage of anti-tank missiles and close-range AT weapons, and if it turns out to be true it will be a violent summer.x<\/p>\n

We saw at the T-junction how the anti-tank missile missed when the tank triggered an explosion in the ground and one should probably be very clear that the effect of close-range AT and missiles is directly correlated to experience and handling. You have to expose yourself when shooting and direct fire on the target from attacking mechanized units is very strong visual and auditory stimuli. Inexperienced shooting might get off a shot but miss.<\/p>\n

The defense should have learned from the southern front and disguised themselves as families instead and sat down in the forest rather than fleeing the tanks on foot \u2013 has rarely worked since some genius came up with putting soldiers on horses and giving them long pointed spears.<\/p>\n

It seems more like a massacre than a battle and the counterattack from the task force apparently failed completely as well. Since the area is supposed to be crawling with VDV I wonder if the counterattack was VDV or not, I have no information on that.<\/p>\n

To be sympathetic to the Russians, they had apparently taken these positions relatively recently but that\u2019s probably how it looks around all of Bakhmut I think \u2013 they have focused on taking Bakhmut not on defending themselves.<\/p>\n

If Wagner lost 500 in that battle as Prigozhin said then they took 10% losses of what they have left in one day, they would have about 5000 left. I have no idea if that is true and am going by Prigozhin\u2019s word here.<\/p>\n

Now Gregg, and others, write that they continue attacking in the same area so they are expanding and exploiting that breakthrough for a more extensive combat objective. One can thus assume this was a sub-goal.<\/p>\n

I maintain that those were not reconnaissance battles \u2013 reconnaissance battles are with platoon (possibly company) strength and you fight reconnaissance until you make contact and then withdraw \u2013 that is the definition of combat reconnaissance. In reconnaissance you don\u2019t even seek combat but only observe.<\/p>\n

I maintain that we have gotten the details because Prigozhin outed it all on Telegram.<\/p>\n

There are also battles up towards Soledar, in the built-up area of Bakhmut, north of Bakhmut, Avdiivka, Vuhledar, Kreminna and Kupiansk as well \u2013 intensity unknown on all due to opsec.<\/p>\n

In this Bakhmut attack I think territorial forces first fought in the area and then the 3rd Assault brigade slipped in for a larger operation that broke through immediately.<\/p>\n

There are over 20 UA brigades at the Bakhmut front\u2026<\/p>\n

I know of a total of three attack vectors in Bakhmut where they have had successes but only this one do we have details on.<\/p>\n

Then they have apparently flattened the Russians quite a bit in the built-up area of Bakhmut with artillery \u2013 they have five artillery brigades along this front from SW of Bakhmut up to Soledar, a forest of barrels.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s full opsec that applies and we also have a 3-day delay on everything.<\/p>\n

If Budanov has managed to fool the combat leadership with my battle plan they start with the scope in Bakhmut quickly followed by crossing the Dnipro and then the Azov push while keeping pressure up between Vuhledar \u2013 Horlivka. And northern Luhansk keeps going.

We\u2019ll see, there were many yellow thumbs up when I sent that plan on WhatsApp because they had planned to put everything on one card straight into the city of Donetsk for some reason I never understood, with the Leopards first as well.<\/p>\n

Bakhmut is developing into the kind of offensive we can expect when we see how UA has acted before but the area is poorly defended just like northern Luhansk is poorly defended and you get advance.<\/p>\n

This would then mean that we very soon will start getting information about movements at the southern front and Dnipro, my thought was crossing the Dnipro first or simultaneously with advances at the southern front and then the marine brigades that are rampaging between Kinburn spit and the Crimea bridges or being shipped across the Dnipro.<\/p>\n

3rd Assault brigade has personal weapons and support weapons from the West, drives M113 and then Soviet tanks. Probably also lots of Western ATGMs.<\/p>\n

It is a brigade with Western weapons but not Leo, Bradley, CV90 or Challenger if I understand this correctly.<\/p>\n

For the undersigned I interpret the battles around Bakhmut as UA having achieved great successes very fast \u2013 an enormous positive that they have cut through Russian defenses as they have, sensational.<\/p>\n

Then we must not forget that thousands if not tens of thousands of Ukrainians will fall in this offensive and the country will pay a terrible price for this. At T0504 there were 5-6 destroyed M113s, PTGBs and some tank so UA is taking heavy losses now as the attacking party.<\/p>\n

The difference from the Russians\u2019 suicide attacks where they run with drawn sabers screaming across the fields is that they achieve their combat objectives and inflict existential damage on RU.<\/p>\n
