Rädd för döden har Irans högste ledare ayatollah Ali Khamenei sökt skydd från Israels bomber i en bunker där han har utsett tre kandidater att ta över hans post om han skulle dödas i en israelisk attack. Det uppger iranska myndighetskällor för New York Times.

Tvärt emot vad många har trott har han inte utsett sin egen son Mojtaba Khamenei som sin möjlige efterträdare, utan har i stället pekat ut tre andra högt uppsatta religiösa ledare.

Khamenei uppges även ha utsett efterträdare för flera av landets militära ledare. Enligt tjänstemännen är den islamistiske regimledaren så rädd att han inte har lämnat sin bunker under de senaste dagarna.

New York Times skriver att uppgifterna är ”talande för vilken osäker situation han och hans tre decennier långa styre befinner sig i”.
