    ”Russian banks are ready to restructure some of Russian Railways’ (RZD) debt as long as the central bank does not increase reserve requirements for these loans, VTB CEO Andrei Kostin told Reuters in an interview.

    Russia’s government is discussing ways to prop up Russian Railways, the country’s biggest commercial employer, which has built up a 4 trillion rouble ($50.8 billion) debt pile, Reuters reported on November 25.

    For the first nine months of the current year, RZD incurred a net loss of 4.4 billion rubles, and cash reserves fell from 251.6 to 21.7 billion. In the context of financial difficulties, it reduced investments by a third, sent part of its employees on unpaid leave, and began staff reductions.

    Instead of direct assistance, the authorities are considering easing the terms of RZD’s debts, which amount to a 4 trillion ruble debt pile, as well as the possibility of increasing tariffs and converting debt into shares.”

    ”Det är svårt att veta om Ryssland talar sanning när landet påstår att de har intagit Pokrovsk, säger den tidigare överstelöjtnanten Joakim Paasikivi till TV4. Han säger att ryssarna tidigare påstått att de tagit kontroll över ukrainska områden när det i själva verket inte stämmer.

    Staden, där det pågått intensiva strider den senaste tiden, är strategiskt viktig för soldaterna på slagfältet. Om den har fallit i händerna på Ryssland kommer president Vladimir Putin säkert måla upp det som en stor seger, tror Paasikivi.

    – Det är viktigt för Putin att presentera den här bilden av att man är den obevekliga ångvälten och att ukrainarna inte har något att sätta emot.
