Ukraine’s drone attack
Ukraine carried out a massive drone attack last night on several cities in Russia, Moscow, Volgograd, Rostov, Tula, and others. Unfortunately, it has not been revealed whether any of the drones reached their target. Russia is cracking down harder on those who release videos of successful Ukrainian attacks and has, among other things, shut down the mobile network in several areas, mainly around the areas with major refineries. We will see if there will be more news during the day.
Power plant exploded in Sakhalin
A power plant has exploded on the island of Sakhalin. Half of the island is without electricity, and the capital also lacks water.
The cause of the explosion is unknown, and considering that Sakhalin is on the other side of Russia, almost 7000 km from Ukraine, it was probably not Ukrainian drones. However, it is not entirely impossible that it was sabotage. During the war in Ukraine, we have seen numerous examples of other types of sabotage, mainly against railways and transformer stations, so it is not entirely unlikely. Or maybe it was just some Russian who had bad luck while smoking.
Russian positions below the Belgorod Dam hit by “moisture damage”
The Belgorod Dam in Russia, which was damaged and began to release water, has not yet been repaired, and the area below the dam is increasingly flooded. There are pictures and videos from waterlogged areas with flooded equipment and impassable transport routes. It is difficult to say if this has any major impact on their combat capability in the area. From many videos that have been seen, it seems that the Russians are accustomed to floods and may have no problem walking in mud and sludge. Hopefully, Ukraine can gain a slight advantage.
More Russian misfortune
A floating crane overturned in Sevastopol Bay, rumored to have 1-2 dead and about twenty injured. The crane apparently was not fully assembled, and the plan was to dismantle it into parts to then complete it elsewhere. Now some other crane will have to lift that crane.

Speaking of Sakhalin. There is resistance against Putin in that region. Especially in Khabarovsk but also in Vladivostok. Large demonstrations a couple of years ago. Governor Sergey Furgal was sentenced to over 20 years in prison for daring to criticize Putin’s rule in Moscow.
Interesting, I didn’t know that.

Was it perhaps the Russians who tested how easy it is to knock out Stockholm’s power supply? 🤔
“A technical fault in a power cable was behind the major power outage in central Stockholm on Monday evening. Ellevio writes in a press release. Over 21,000 subscribers in Södermalm and Gamla stan were affected by the outage which lasted for two and a half hours.
– Technical circumstances made the fault more extensive than it should have been, says Christian Skoglund, head of operations at Ellevio.”

Then we had this a few days ago, not the Russians, but it shows how incredibly sensitive it is.
Of course, everyone who has been traveling by train for a long time knows this, some transformer station acting up, or some wiring fault and you have to sit there for a couple of hours and wait.
A few explosions in the right places and you will be able to stop all train connections.
“There are major disruptions in train traffic between Gothenburg and Alingsås, several media outlets report. Västtåg between the cities cannot operate due to a power failure in Lerum. Even SJ’s trains between Gothenburg and Stockholm have to take a detour.
During the evening, technicians found the fault. During track work, a cable had been severed, Gothenburgs-Posten reports. The fault is not expected to be rectified until Monday morning.”

Ukraine has calculated that they need 250 planes to keep the ryzzen at bay, which is good input for NATO. By joining NATO, we can save money for the Ukrainian people, who can reduce their spending to only 5% like the rest of us NATO countries!
Regarding SAAB, NO ONE has said that it’s allowed to sell JAS planes to Ukraine (only LOI)! Evidently, there are pilots who have been trained and JAS planes have been stationed in Poland without any issues on NATO missions? It can be solved in Ukraine, right? Shouldn’t we have been able to contribute already with 7 older Gripen planes as we said 2-3 years ago?
The USA is causing trouble, so it takes time to clean up the GE engine, etc.
▪️If Putin does not sit down at the negotiating table, sanctions are needed. The supply of long-range weapons to Ukraine is also possible. Is it moving forward, backward? Not long ago it was about an actual delivery, now a possibility.

“Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky says he is ready for peace talks anywhere in the world, except for Belarus and Russia, reports The Guardian.
At the same time, he emphasizes that Ukraine will not take a step back or give up any territories.
In a comment to AFP, the president also says that Ukraine needs economic support from Europe to be able to continue resisting the Russian invasion in the next three years.
– I emphasized this again to all European leaders. I told them that we will not fight for decades, but you must show that for a certain period of time you will be able to provide Ukraine with stable economic support, he says in a comment.”
The Ukrainian intelligence service HUR reported in a post on Telegram that they have taken out two Russian radar systems and a missile launcher for air defense missiles in the eastern Donbas region, according to Kyiv Independent.
The newspaper has not been able to verify the images, and there has been no statement from the Russian side yet. However, this is not uncommon. Ukraine and Russia rarely admit to losses of military systems or setbacks in the war.
According to the Ukrainian public service company Suspilne, the destroyed missile launcher was said to have been used for Russian S-300V missiles.
Great that you brought up Kissinger. It was indeed a result of the so-called “ping-pong diplomacy”. The Table Tennis World Championships took place in Japan in 1971 with a Swedish winner in the singles, Stellan Bengtsson. The Chinese invited the American table tennis team to China, and I remember it was a huge sensation worldwide. The following year, Nixon/Kissinger visited Mao/Zhou Enlai in Beijing. The meeting resulted in friendlier relations between the countries and ended China’s long isolation. A couple of years later, diplomatic relations were established (1979). China’s “great leap” had begun.

In a few hours, Melissa is expected to reach land, fingers crossed that Jamaica won’t be as severely affected as feared.

According to the US National Hurricane Center, wind speeds of up to 280 kilometers per hour were recorded on Monday, with even stronger gusts.
It is not known exactly how or when the powerful hurricane will hit Jamaica. According to Sky News, Melissa has changed course and moved slightly westward. This could mean that it reaches Jamaica a little later, which could be good news for the residents as it would then hit during daylight instead of at night.”

A bit more about the 250 planes that Ukraine is planning for.

I was a bit surprised last week when Zelensky was in Linköping and signed a memorandum of understanding with Sweden/Saab. Not because Ukraine chose Saab, as that was expected, but because the day after they tried, through Belgium, to release frozen Russian funds to finance the Gripen, among other things.
Here, I think Zelensky had to include other alternatives to the Gripen for the EU to be satisfied. Not forgetting Trump.
You probably have a point there.
He shortly after announced the purchase of Lynx from Rheinmetall as well, and that was probably to get the Germans on board.
Yes, that’s probably the case. Strange choice anyway. I believe the Germans have sent Marder to Ukraine, but not Lynx. Lynx has probably had big problems. I think they all had to be sent home during a NATO exercise. Happened four or five years ago.
Oh no, then we’ll have to hope they’ve managed to sort out the problems now.
The CV-90 would probably have been better, but of course it’s a bit older.
It is important to spread the orders to different countries. Rheinmetall would probably establish an industry in Ukraine. I suppose it’s easier for Ukraine to choose German then. I think the CV 90 is a bit better anyway but it’s not owned by a Swedish company. BAE is probably half British and half American.

Sir – RU has just landed a lot of transport planes in Venezuela.
In terms of provocation, is it really much less than sending in a lot of green men in the Baltics?
The USA usually reacts quite strongly if someone starts running in circles in their backyard.
It must be a gigantic tactical mistake by RU. Trump is not likely to overlook this if it is true.
Oops, then it can get hot, and I can guess that there might be some Chinese weapons there too. They did test some weapons for real when India and Pakistan had their little skirmish here this summer, but I’m sure there are other weapons they would like to test.
China has come out and said that no one will attack Venezuela because they will defend Venezuela.

A bit of fresh Kenneth Gregg!
28.10.2025 update
This journey has been VERY rewarding in understanding how the fronts and tactics have evolved.
The front has changed — from trenches to drone inferno
Now I also understand why so many bloggers and reporters are so mistaken, it has nothing to do with propaganda or being kind to the ryzzen, it is pure and simple ignorance. If we compare with the journey from 1 month ago, the fronts have evolved very differently.
Zaporizhzhia is still a traditional front
The Zaporizhzhia front is a more traditional front as we usually imagine. Trenches, mechanical units with vehicles, combat between us and the ryzzen in the form of storming and counter-storming. There are also drones here but not even close to the masses in Pokrovsk. In Zaporizhzhia, supplies can be brought in by car very close to the positions. Fixed kill zones have not yet been established.
Dobropillia and Pokrovsk: air superiority, kill zones, and foot marches
In Pokrovsk, we have a completely different situation. Let me start with Dobropillia and explain the tactical situation there. We simply have air superiority here, we have about 5 times more drones than the ryzzen because we took out their heavy drone positions. Then we cut off their supply line and we created a 15 km kill zone. We wore down the ryzzen until he could no longer endure and gave up. Then we moved in our own soldiers and took possession of the area. With air superiority, we could drive in with vehicles and quickly take control of the small communities. In this way, we have cleared the enemy from the Dobropilla area and are now advancing towards Rodynske. The ryzzen attempted a mechanized major counterattack that turned into a disaster long before they reached our positions. Currently, the enemy is trying to establish a new drone unit for the area. Our supplies come in with robots and drones here as well. This allows us to detect every move the enemy makes and react immediately.
Humanitarian collapse — Geneva Conventions don’t matter
Pokrovsk is absolutely the most peculiar front area we have had during this war. Neither of us currently has air superiority over Pokrovsk, we have both established a 17 km kill zone each. This makes it impossible for either side to bring in supplies. The ryzzen who have entered the city hide and ambush and reconnoiter. When you have to walk 17 km to get into the city, a very difficult problem arises for the civilians. In a situation like this, all Geneva Conventions fall flat. Civilians cannot be evacuated, there is no food for them, if they come out the likelihood of being shot is very high, and among the soldiers, no prisoners are taken. Prisoners cannot be taken for practical reasons; it is not possible to transport them behind the lines and there is not enough food to share with them. Many of you have probably seen the video where a Ukrainian soldier jumps out of a bush and basically executes a ryzzen. It is simply a matter of liquidate or be liquidated. This applies both ways. The ryzzen shoot our civilians because they do not know if they are friendly or hostile.
The civilians bury their relatives outside the house entrance, it is not safe to go too far out. Their emergency food is dogs and cats, water is taken from puddles, but just going out is associated with mortal danger. It is a very raw situation where the law of the jungle applies 100%, besides, there are children in the city (to top it all off). Our soldiers have no opportunity to help them.
I recommend you to watch the videos I will publish after some editing, they show the real situation. One day in with those who are to rotate and the next day out with those who are to rest. This whole operation takes days to prepare.
Combat methods: drone- and target-oriented operations instead of house-to-house
There are battles but only after our drone operators have located in which house the ryzzen is. The attacks occur as storming, with FPV, HIMARS, glide bombs, or artillery depending on the building’s structure. The traditional house-to-house battles are NOT taking place and will not happen until either side has air superiority over the city. To attack Pokrovsk in a traditional way, the ryzzen needs several hundred tanks and armored vehicles in a massive attack. This is not possible for two reasons; the ryzzen does not have so many vehicles and the area they need for this is so large that it becomes practically impossible.
Endurance and physicality — crucial factors
So what is decisive about the battle of Pokrovsk; The keywords are endurance and physicality. If we look at the ryzzen who have been eliminated, they are quite old, malnourished, and resigned. Our soldiers are in physical shape and in their 30s. Captain Tabak enters the city regularly, fully equipped with combat gear plus 25 kg of supplies. He walks 18 km in and the following day out.
Drones and robots — capacity increase and funding needs
The other factor is drones and robots. We have now delivered 4 robots to Tabak, they have a success rate of 96 and can carry up to 250-300 kg payload per trip and robot. The Vampire that was delivered when journalist Mikael Storsjö was present is still alive, which in itself is a miracle. Kara Dag has on its wish list a Vampire and another robot. Then they would be fully equipped. Financially, it means 1,150,000 UAH, or 287,500 SEK (28,750 USD). A Vampire costs 850,000 UAH, 212,500 SEK (21,250 USD) and a robot 350,000 UAH, 87,500 SEK (8,750 USD). We do not have the resources to arrange a Vampire, a robot is more realistic for our operations.
Konstantynovka, Kramatorsk, and echoes of the Myrnohrad pattern
The Konstantynovka front is now in the status that the Myrnohrad front was in July 2025, i.e., the sawing contact line is 5-7 km from the city. Again, there are no long trenches but a system of digouts. The trench lines start at Druzhkivka.
Just as it was in Myrnohrad, it is impossible to reach the positions by car, but we can still drive into the city. Supplies from the city to the positions are made through Vampire drops.
Kramatorsk is subjected to glide bomb attacks, Shaheds, and Lancet drones. There have been a couple of fiber optic drone attacks in Kramatorsk but so far no regular FPV drones. Slovjansk, which is further away, has only been bombed with glide bombs and attacked with Iskander and Lancet drones. Kramatorsk is still out of reach of the ryzka artillery.
The content is that we are seeing a replay of the Myrnohrad/Pokrovsk development. Hopefully, the military leadership has learned from the mistakes made and will not be repeated at Konstantynivka.
The new warfare, with only small groups that must march into the larger communities and an FPV blockade of supplies with cars, makes it impossible to capture a city the size of Pokrovsk. Only with a mass attack of armored vehicles can the ryzzen bring in enough firepower to engage in street battles. Right now, it is a drone inferno and Dante’s inferno for the civilians who chose to stay.
Implications for map updates and analysts
How does this situation affect war map updates? How should one consider that there are ryzzen scattered in different areas and we have positions among them and behind their backs? A traditional map update is practically impossible, moreover, our and their drones operate up to 50 km behind the lines. The gray zone should extend 50 km in both directions from Pokrovsk.
Right now, the map images give a skewed view of how the real front is. This leaves too much room for media expert analysis, because they start from a traditional understanding of how the front works and do not understand the new.
Furthermore, we have changed doctrine, which I devoted a whole update to some time ago. This has also led ISW to misjudge the situation. In layman’s terms, this means that Pokrovsk is far from being surrounded or that the ryzzen are rampaging in the city center.
Journalistic risk and field insight
To even understand all the new things, journalists should visit the units on the front lines, however, the risk is high for these journalists to enter these front zones, just yesterday a press car was attacked by a Lancet drone just outside Kramatorsk at a service station. These journalists died immediately, and their car was clearly marked with PRESS. The attack was intentional.
Crimea a gray zone
Since Crimea is constantly under attack from us and the resistance movement, Crimea should actually be designated as a gray zone. The resistance movement consists of Ukrainians, so if we use the analysts’ logic, we have several hundred Ukrainians there, this in itself should be sufficient justification for marking it as a gray zone. Additionally, the ryzzen does not have full control over the peninsula. As you can see, the map update policy is not simple and leaves a lot of room for drawing incorrect conclusions.
Conclusion
Modern warfare around Pokrovsk, Dobropillia, Konstantynovka, and adjacent sectors is characterized by drones, robots, long kill zones, and demands for physical endurance. The tactics have shifted from classic trenches and mass vehicle attacks to small, mobile groups and a logistics where supplies must be made without vehicles that can be stopped by FPV drones. It requires new cartographic principles, different analytical models, and an understanding that traditional concepts of frontlines are no longer sufficient.
SLAVA UKRAINI
It was interesting.
However, he did not say how things are in Myrnohrad?
I think I read that in another post! I’ll get back to you!
This is what I found! Clear OK in Myrnohrad as well!
“The Western media is talking about Pokrovsk being surrounded and 5000 Ukrainian soldiers being trapped. This is NOT true, just look at the map of Pokrovsk/Myrnohrad and you will see that it is a newspaper hoax.”
Does anyone believe that Europe’s defense forces master this warfare?
If they are trained by Ukraine as you say! But it requires practice!
The only reasonable conclusion is that Europe is very poorly equipped for the type of warfare described.
Now, my military knowledge is completely rudimentary, so the following should be seen as a pondering.
Assume that Europe can establish total air superiority, meaning that fighter aircraft can operate fairly freely. Isn’t it some sort of NATO doctrine that this is how the war should be fought? Wouldn’t Europe then be able to avoid being ground down in the type of battles described above, which they are surely not prepared for!?
Good morning!
