  1. Off-Topic, Hungary

Today we are crossing our fingers that the majority chooses to vote out Orbán and the other finger that he will not engage in election fraud.

“The polling stations have opened in Hungary in Sunday’s election that could determine Viktor Orbán’s future in power. The Prime Minister is challenged by Péter Magyar, whose party Tisza is leading according to polls. Orbán and his party Fidesz have made support for Ukraine a central issue in their campaign, AFP reports. This means that all of Europe is closely following the election.

    – This is a crucial election. If Fidesz wins now, it means a clear shift towards authoritarian rule, says political scientist Andrea Szabo to AFP.

Orbán, who has ruled the country for 16 consecutive years, is seeking a new mandate. Magyar has promised a “system change” and a fight against corruption. Voter turnout is expected to be high and results may be delayed until next Saturday if it is close, according to the country’s election authority.”

    1. It will be interesting to see how the European Commission and other EU countries will react to the outcome of the election regardless of the result. I have a feeling that if it turns out that the Trojan horse clings to power, the last illusions of being able to negotiate with Hungary will vanish and that they will resort to using hard measures, such as loss of voting rights, further freezing of funds, and coordination among other EU countries (perhaps excluding Fidesz and Babiš in Slovakia and the Czech Republic) to isolate Hungary completely from collaborations, meetings, etc.

      1. The right to vote is not lost because it requires all other countries to vote for it. The EU must be reformed to a qualified majority in key issues, otherwise it will die of the same soot death as the UN is on its way to do.

        1. Let us sincerely hope that the stage is already set for this and that the responsible politicians have the long-term vision and courage to implement what is needed.

      1. True… As I have hinted before, maybe it’s time to acknowledge that if one team is not playing by the rulebook, perhaps the other team should also retaliate according to the same principle so that Orban and co understand that it can be dangerous for their health too.

  2. Off-Topic USA-Iran

“The talks between the USA and Iran have collapsed after more than 20 hours of negotiations in Pakistan, according to Vice President JD Vance at a press conference.

    – The bad news is that we have not reached any agreement. We are returning to the USA without a deal, says Vance, as reported by American media.

Iran is said to have not agreed to the American demands to not develop nuclear weapons.

    – That is the US president’s core goal, and that is what we have been trying to achieve through these negotiations, Vance continues.

Iranian state media reports that there was no agreement on nuclear weapons or the Strait of Hormuz, and that the USA was looking for “reasons to leave the negotiating table,” according to Sky News.

It is unclear if and when the negotiations will resume. The American delegation left Islamabad early in the morning.”

“Talks between the USA and Iran in Pakistan are said to have collapsed after not agreeing to several of the American demands. This is reported by the conservative Iranian analyst Ali Gholhaki, who has close ties to the Iranian regime, as reported by the New York Times.

He claims that the USA demanded that Iran completely refrain from uranium enrichment, export nearly 400 kilos of enriched uranium out of the country, and agree to let the USA control security in the Strait of Hormuz.

At the same time, according to Gholhaki, there were no promises to get Israel to stop attacks in Lebanon. He argues that the demands were so one-sided that they were not perceived as serious negotiations.”

      1. The markets are likely to open with great uncertainty and pure roller coaster ride.
But honestly, few would have imagined that the USA and Iran would resolve all or even any issues after the first round of negotiations………..

      2. The marketers will probably react with pure roller coaster in the week. But in all honesty, few probably imagined that a solution would be found for even one of all the knots in the conflict, let alone solve them all….. well, maybe one person,,,, who is busy building triumphal arches and ballrooms etc…..

        1. Yes, it sounded a bit too easy that a meeting would be enough.

You are not alone in believing in a volatile market:

“Oil and gas markets are expected to shake after the USA and Iran failed to reach an agreement during the marathon negotiations in Pakistan, writes Bloomberg.

The talks stalled around the USA’s demand for Iran to refrain from nuclear weapons and issues concerning the Strait of Hormuz, which increases concerns about global energy supply.

          – We have been clear about our red lines and what we can accept, but they have chosen not to accept our conditions, said US Vice President JD Vance to reporters in Islamabad on Sunday morning.”

  3. ⚡️Russian drone strikes ambulance in northeastern Ukraine, injuring 3 paramedics despite Easter ceasefire. A Russian drone struck an ambulance in Sumy Oblast, injuring three paramedics overnight on April 12 despite an Easter ceasefire being in place, local authorities reported.

  4. The Ukrainian military command states that Russia has violated the promised Easter ceasefire 469 times since it came into effect, reports AFP.

The ceasefire began at 16:00 local time. Four people were killed in Russian attacks on Ukraine overnight into Saturday.

Putin declared a unilateral ceasefire in Ukraine during the Orthodox Easter weekend, on April 11 and 12. The same thing happened during Easter 2025, but the fighting continued despite that.

  5. Ukraine and Russia have carried out a prisoner exchange involving 175 prisoners of war and seven detained civilians each, Reuters reports.

Both sides confirm that the exchange took place ahead of a brief ceasefire over the Orthodox Easter holiday.

“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announces that in addition to the 175 soldiers, seven civilians who have been imprisoned in Russia have also been brought home. Russia also brought back seven civilians, according to the Russian military.

Most of the soldiers are said to have been imprisoned since 2022, according to the Ukrainian defense.

    – It is very difficult to imagine what these people have gone through during this time, and you can see that they are returning in different conditions, says Andrij Jusov from Ukraine’s military intelligence service.”

      1. General Staff writes, among other things (with Facebook’s lousy translation):

The 1509th era of large-scale armed aggression by Russia against Ukraine has begun.
In total, 120 combat clashes took place during the past day.

After 16:00 as of the end of the day, 1723 cases of ceasefire violations were recorded. Namely: 25 enemy assault actions, 365 enemy shelling, 566 kamikaze strikes (“Lancet”, “Lightning”) drones, and 767 fpv strikes. At the same time, rockets, controlled air bombs, and bpla type “shahed” were not used.

As of 7:00 on 12.04.2026, 2299 cases of ceasefire violations were registered. Namely: 28 enemy assault actions, 479 enemy shelling, 747 kamikaze drone strikes (“Lancet”, “Lightning”), and 1045 fpv drone strikes. No rockets, controlled air bombs, or bpla type “shahed” were used.

According to the information, yesterday the opponent carried out 58 aviation strikes, dropping 184 controlled aviation bombs. Additionally, they deployed 8458 kamikaze drones and carried out 2947 shelling on settlements and positions of our troops, including 123 from reactive salvage fire systems.

    1. Domestic foreign policy?

It sounds and looks good for the Russian people, that nothing is happening on the front, the people don’t need to know…

  7. One can perhaps guess that Orban has a few tricks left?

Very worrying to just give up.

I think the Hungarians will have to take back their country by force.

    then Orban flees to Russia

    1. Probably a mix of everything possible where one ingredient is security and that Orban must protect the country from (his own) terrorists?

but if the pressure becomes too great, that rope trick won’t work either – this will be exciting

        1. In the waters around Crimea, there are quite a few natural resources, so if the USA protects Crimea, it is against Ukraine, and because Trump has been promised a good deal by Putin.

          1. Well, that was just as I suspected. However, Kaiser Trump the simple and greedy will probably get a taste of it, as Ukraine will drive out the Russian scum regardless.

      1. Laughed at MTX’s comment that was so stupid, implying that YOU are not competent. It’s like saying that Trump is a narcissist. 😳

        1. You are a kind and generous person Dengamle I have always thought so.

Hope your Sunday is as sunny as always and the wind like a beautiful spring breeze.

Great that you came back, MXT was starting to worry

    1. Well, their Australian office found me and then a meeting with only Indians where they grilled me for three hours.

I answered everything and have also worked on the same project before.

So the suspicion is that they wanted to bring in one of their own so I have kept the Australians updated.

  8. Ahhh… An appeal had been submitted to the Land and Environment Court in Kuwait City. Alternatively, it was missing the correct cover sheet and 2 commas had been misplaced in the reference list in the extended nature inventory, which the local nature conservation association found unacceptable, combined with a neighbor thinking that there was an incorrect and outdated color shade on one of the buildings, etc., etc., endlessly…. What? Oops.. It wasn’t in Sweden that the project was supposed to be carried out… But I still suspect that it has something to do with neighborly relations…

      1. M/S Hui Yuan. Unloaded coal in a Russian port from India. Now on its way to Palmköping. Probably Chinese owners. Cargo hold cleaning underway. Prohibited. It should be fixed in port. But time and money are saved. Serious shipowners have no chance against these semi-pirates. The coast guard is going from strength to strength.

        1. I fully agree with your clear-sighted observation Proxima. I hope they keep up the pressure and that the other Baltic states join in and do the same.

      2. I fully agree with that statement Johan!!
A good decision by the Coast Guard as it may also inspire other countries to follow the example and start taking action themselves.

      1. Yes, but above all that current authorities choose to make this interpretation of the legislation…. Now both the prosecution authority and the court administration also need to start thinking a bit “outside the box” and show some goodwill and a great deal of insight into what is required in order not to automatically and comfortably say that it probably won’t work…. Although I suspect that this is already ingrained at several levels.

  9. 😄

Complaining about bureaucracy and overly detailed and incomprehensible rules and long processing times is a beloved national sport in most countries.

As private individuals, we have it pretty good in Sweden anyway, here we are not expected to have to bribe officials just for them to even care about your case.

That being said, of course, we would benefit greatly from simplifying in many cases, but perhaps most from achieving much faster processes. Here, we may eventually benefit from AI that can gather necessary relevant information and make preliminary assessments that only need to be checked.

    1. In addition to new simplified rules, a new official culture must emerge where one dares to be flexible and make decisions based on self-confidence, experience, and common sense. Bureaucratization and legalism must be reversed, and Swedish authorities must also stop interpreting EU laws and regulations more strictly than all other member states. All of this also requires politicians who are competent, have long-term vision, and enough backbone to want to engage in the struggle against resistance from authorities, courts, and various obscure and dubious special interests.
They can start by limiting the possibility of frivolous appeals by tripling the fee for this, as it would truly weed out routine appeals and dampen envy and frivolous litigation, and ensure that the processing time in the courts decreases drastically.
This would save enormous sums for society and clearly boost the Swedish GDP.

    1. Nethanyahu may have taken on “one bridge too many” when it comes to the patience and sympathy of the international community, especially the United States. Netanyahu’s actions and desperation to avoid being convicted of corruption may essentially cause a global economic crash, which will not go unpunished, and Israel also faces internal tensions to put it mildly. It is not unlikely that Israel will become even more isolated, and that future American administrations will gradually withdraw their support from the country.

    2. If there is no change of regime in Iran, Israel will probably have problems.

Europe will not sacrifice itself for Israel, and the USA may back down.

The country can be darkened and dried up in a few months and is surrounded by enemies and has a large diaspora in the country.

Other MENA countries see today’s situation as created by Israel with the help of the USA.

      Our time’s Rhodesia?

      1. It was like this before the latest Israeli, now including US, war against Iran, that the Gulf states had realpolitik approached Israel and that a recognition of the state from several of the Arab countries could be discerned on the horizon, the sympathies for Iran’s proxies were practically zero. I find it hard to imagine that the Gulf states view the approach and normalization of relations with Israel in the same positive light now.
Israel’s democracy has started to deteriorate at a faster pace under Netanyahu, and corruption is increasing. Many secular Jews with roots in the West are beginning to consider emigrating from the country, and under current circumstances, not as many Jews abroad see Israel as the promised land anymore.

          1. Large parts of the population in the Arab states hate Israel, which they inherit from birth. Among the leadership in these countries, the view is more nuanced, as they have other priorities and have long realized that Israel will not disappear, but that trade and other arrangements can be profitable and rewarding.
The Palestinians are more or less written off in these circles, especially in the Gulf states. They want to move forward and the Israel-Palestine issue has lost much of its relevance, as it has long been known that Israel cannot be militarily shaken.
The so-called “Abraham Accords” thawed the economic ties between mainly Saudi Arabia and Israel, and several Gulf countries were on board. Morocco has established diplomatic relations with Israel.

Iran and the Gulf states, led by Saudi Arabia, are old archenemies, and the Arab states looked on with barely concealed delight as Israel beat up Iran’s proxy allies in the region.
Now the question is how the Gulf states view Israel when they have indirectly dragged them into a conflict that they have long tried to avoid and that threatens the foundation of their economic development for the foreseeable future, and which will also accelerate the transition to fossil-free solutions globally.
I suspect that Netanyahu’s government is no longer held in high regard by the Gulf states and that it will take time, if ever, to even begin to repair the relations between them.

            1. Yes, that appears to be a correct analysis. Hard to believe that this issue will increase Israel’s security. They should have realized that it would be extremely risky to enter into any kind of alliance with Trump. That man doesn’t know what loyalty is.

  11. “❗️“Easter and its profound meaning show us where to find light, so that we do not get lost. These answers are right beside us — in our loved ones, our families, and our people.” — President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska greeted Ukrainians on Easter.”

Anarcho-primitivism is a form of anarchism that is critical of the progress of human civilization. It is considered a form of post-left anarchism.

    2. So, you looked so proud with that crooked home crocheted tie, so I wanted to celebrate the creation in the thread and also make sure it wasn’t mistaken for a squeezed kitchen towel tied in two rounds around the neck.

    1. “Early figures from Hungary indicate a high voter turnout, which is interpreted as a ominous sign for Viktor Orbán’s rule, several media outlets report.

When the clock struck 11:00, 37.98 percent of the voters had cast their vote. This is a significantly higher figure than the record from 2002, which was the last time Orbán lost an election.

Deutsche Welle writes that the high voter turnout likely reflects the desire for change that many Hungarians have expressed during the election campaign.

      – I will cry regardless. Tears of joy if things change, or of sorrow if this system remains, says software developer David to the German channel.

Another person who has commented on the voter turnout is Viktor Orbán himself.

“A lot of people are voting. It means one thing: if we want to defend Hungary’s security, no patriot should stay at home!”, he writes on Facebook.”

  16. Energy, Hormuz, Iran

🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia fully restores East-West oil pipeline, bypassing the Strait of Hormuz and pumping 7,000,000 barrels per day.

Saudi Arabia says it needs no more strait of Hormuz.

    Possibly also United Arab Emirates:

    1. Interesting.

According to the latest OMR from the IEA, Saudi Arabia produces just over 9 million barrels per day, so these 7 million would be the majority of their production. On the other hand, the same report states that a total of normally 20 million barrels pass through the strait daily.

The UAE produces about 3.5 million. Possibly around 10 million could pass alongside the strait. On the other hand, the question arises whether these are included in the 20 million that the IEA mentions. Probably not if these over 10 million normally do not go through the strait.

So the loss of 20 million may/probably still applies.

        1. A bit difficult to put the numbers together if you only count crude oil. Presumably, Natural Gas Liquids are also included in the 20.

IEA also writes this: “Global oil supply is projected to plunge by 8 mb/d in March, with curtailments in the Middle East partly offset by higher output from non-OPEC+ producers, Kazakhstan and Russia following disruptions at the start of the year.”

Figures like these are somewhat perishable today. It should be added that the figure 8 mb/d was published on March 12.

(The standard is probably to write the prefix million with a capital M! Not according to IEA apparently.)

  17. Is it cold outside on the ice?

    @schizointel:

”Ukraine literally wouldn’t have an electrical grid right now if it wasn’t for the Gulf countries and literally thousands of Ukrainians would have froze to death if it wasn’t for the Saudi Arabia sending the warming tents. Saudi Arabia who also likely contributor for hawk air defense systems to Ukraine. Jordan and Qatar who gave all of their Gepards.

UAE has given Ukraine – 4,520 electric generators to 10 regions of Ukraine – 50 fully-equipped ambulances, and medical equipment – 7,500 laptops for students and 10,000 school bags, plus the construction of 10 houses for foster families. -UAE has facilitated 11 exchanges of over 4,757 kidnapped Ukrainian civilians and Prisoners Of War between Russia and Ukraine. -14 planes carrying relief supplies to Ukraine, as well as two ships delivering humanitarian aid to Romania. In total, the UAE has provided 1,015 tons of food and other relief supplies to Ukraine. -UAE has also extended its humanitarian assistance beyond Ukraine, providing aid to Ukrainian refugees in Moldova, Poland, and Bulgaria -UAE signed a Free Trade Agreement with Ukraine.

Also, they bulk purchase Ukrainian Grain.

The Gulf Nations have signed decade-long defense contracts with Ukraine on drone interceptors professional training and electronic warfare and in exchange they will give Ukraine air defense interceptors for Patriot.

Israel has given Ukraine 1-2 Patriot Batteries thru the United states. A specialized missile and drone warning system which is used daily to warn people of incoming Russian missiles and drones. Delivery of 100,000 units of winter gear, including coats, blankets, and sleeping bags. 6 “mega-generators” were sent to maintain critical hospital functions, alongside dozens of medium-sized units. 17 tons of medicine, 6 Armoured ambulances 250,000 pre-packed meals distributed. 1.8 million reusable water containers provided. Multiple water purification systems recently approved for eastern Ukraine, each capable of serving tens of thousands of people. Professional training for 3,000 Ukrainian specialists in trauma care. $200 million in loan guarantees for medical and civilian infrastructure.

    1. I looked a bit at what the UAE has donated, and it is totally exaggerated that Ukraine would have no electricity without them. It is true that they have sent power plants, and it seems to be even more than what is stated in schizointel’s text.

The information I found is about three deliveries. The first one is mobile power plants with a power output ranging from 3.5 to 8 kW.

I also found information about two other shipments of 2,500 units and 360 units, respectively. But no power output is specified, although they are described as “household generators.” So, they should also fall within the range of 3.5 to 8 kW.
(Although 2 kW is quite common for backup generators as well.)

      So, they have delivered a total of: 2,520 + 2,500 + 360 = 5,380 units.
If we calculate a bit high and assume they are all 8 kW, then it would be 5,380 x 8 = 43,040 kW.

Power Up Ukraine states that they have delivered the equivalent of a total power output of 34,094 kW.

The cost of an 8 kW unit is approximately: 15,000-20,000 SEK, so the value is therefore 94 million SEK.

The UAE has a slightly lower GDP than Sweden, I can’t be bothered to look up exactly how much we have given, but we are probably over 200 billion SEK now if we also count what we have promised and the share we give as part of the EU.

The UAE has probably given less in total than what Swedish individuals have voluntarily donated.
      Not particularly impressed.

Trying to add to the UAE’s credit by buying grain from Ukraine is just ridiculous.
It would mean that one could classify oneself as a savior of Ukraine for drinking Obolon! 😄

There is no concrete information that Israel has actually provided Patriots to Ukraine. The only thing known is that they themselves stated that they returned a system to the USA, which is then believed to have been sent to Ukraine by the USA. It’s not quite the same as Israel donating it to Ukraine.

Neither of the countries (Israel + “Gulf nations”) is even included in the Ukraine Support Tracker, so their contributions are probably negligible.

I think it seems more like schizointel is on thin ice, not Kajsa Kallas!

    1. Have they not already done it?
I imagine that Trump knows that he currently has a weaker hand than Iran and that he is partly trying to inflate himself and appear threatening in the belief that he will gain some form of leverage against Iran, but also to try to push other countries to his side in the conflict. It is doubtful if anyone will bite other than with a basically symbolic participation. The crux of the matter is how long China considers it affordable to amusedly watch as the USA engages in qualified self-harm behavior before they seriously take steps to try to help unravel the mess, as they cannot afford to lose trade and customers due to an increasingly failing trade and crisis-ridden global economy.

It will be interesting to see which countries these are and how much patience Trump has, if any, and if he will grab whatever is put on the table, big or small, only to then rush towards the exit.

      1. Unfortunately, it is well so that Trump’s cognitive performance leaves something to be desired. During this period, he has also ensured to surround himself with people who, in most cases, are at the same level. His analysis was probably something like this: It went well in Venezuela so it will probably do so again.

      2. Trump sees well what effect the blocking of the Hormuz strait has had, and plans to take control of the strait himself, so that he is the one in control and can make a profit from it.

  18. Iran 🇮🇷

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump So, there you have it, the meeting went well, most points were agreed to, but the only point that really mattered, NUCLEAR, was not. Effective immediately, the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz. At some point, we will reach an “ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO IN, ALL BEING ALLOWED TO GO OUT” basis, but Iran has not allowed that to happen by merely saying, “There may be a mine out there somewhere,” that nobody knows about but them. THIS IS WORLD EXTORTION, and Leaders of Countries, especially the United States of America, will never be extorted. I have also instructed our Navy to seek and interdict every vessel in International Waters that has paid a toll to Iran. No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas. We will also begin destroying the mines the Iranians laid in the Straits. Any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be BLOWN TO HELL! Iran knows, better than anyone, how to END this situation which has already devastated their Country. Their Navy is gone, their Air Force is gone, their Anti Aircraft and Radar are useless, Khomeini, and most of their “Leaders,” are dead, all because of their Nuclear ambition. The Blockade will begin shortly. Other Countries will be involved with this Blockade. Iran will not be allowed to profit off this Illegal Act of EXTORTION. They want money and, more importantly, they want Nuclear. Additionally and, at an appropriate moment, we are fully “LOCKED AND LOADED,”and our Military will finish up the little that is left of Iran! They want money and, more importantly, they want Nuclear. Additionally and, at an appropriate moment, we are fully ”LOCKED AND LOADED,”and our Military will finish up the little that is left of Iran! President DONALD J. TRUMP

    1. See article about Pakistani troop to Saudi Arabia in the comment below. India and China are major importers of Iranian oil and among those most affected.

      1. Completely correct Mr. 205.
However, China has substantial oil reserves and can therefore afford to drag its feet for a while longer before it starts to feel the real impact.
I sense that they would like to see fuel prices in the stomach-land continue to soar towards the midterm election in the USA.
What China must consider is that global trade does not suffer too much for too long, as they want to continue exporting and keep the wheels turning relatively smoothly for the stability of their own economy.

          1. Yes, they themselves of course do not want to rely on oil, but since they have invested heavily in wind power, solar panels, batteries, and electric cars, they probably prefer that others also invest in it.

Admittedly, they have a huge domestic market so exports may not be entirely necessary, but they have probably sized their industries based on that. If it fails, they may have problems, or they may take the opportunity to accelerate their transition even further so they can phase out oil and maybe even coal for electricity production. They aim to become self-sufficient.

They have large amounts of coal themselves so they are not in a hurry to get rid of it, but they probably only want to use oil where there are no other alternatives (various petrochemical products such as plastics, etc.).

      1. He believes he sees an opportunity to make a buck.

The Iranian oil is mainly delivered to China, so Trump has an opportunity to put pressure on China there as well.

  19. Iran 🇮🇷
Pakistan 🇵🇰 deploys 13,000 troops and fighter jets to Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦

The deployment aimed to enhance joint military coordination, improve operational readiness between the armed forces of the two countries, and support security and stability at regional and international levels.

“At least 13,000 Pakistani soldiers and 10 to 18 fighter jets landed in Saudi Arabia. As many as 10,000 soldiers are already present in Saudi Arabia. And this arrangement has been made under the defence pact between the countries,” Mr. Mehdi said.

    1. I wonder if it might have provided even more leverage against Iran if Pakistan had gathered larger troop concentrations at its border with Iran, for example down in Baluchistan. Then they might also have been able to fuel the separatist aspirations that exist in this Iranian region, which indeed also exist in Pakistani Baluchistan. However, I believe that the general situation for the separatist movements is currently better on the Iranian side of the border.

  20. USA has limited resources to hunt mines. They have never prioritized that capability. A country that excels in this is Sweden. I wonder when the request from the USA will come. I don’t think there is any country that beats Sweden in this area.

      1. The deminers would probably have been better off without their presence, but they could have gone there to witness the mess their president had caused.

        1. I had rather imagined that they would take on more hands-on roles. They are like human versions of a Swiss army knife according to Trump. They could well swim with a wire between their teeth in the strait and sweep the mines.

    Regarding USA-Iran this morning:

Iran is said to have not agreed to the American demands to not develop nuclear weapons.

“That is the core goal of the US president, and that is what we have tried to achieve through these negotiations,” Vance continues.

It’s as if a country can become more eager for nuclear weapons when it is attacked.

    1. Exactly, if they fail to achieve a regime change, they will of course invest even harder (and make even more effort to keep it secret). Possibly they have realized that maybe it’s enough with the strait to at least resist the USA, maybe they are content with mining it properly.

  22. The election in Hungary

“At 7 p.m., the polling stations closed in Hungary. At 6:30 p.m., voter turnout was at 77.8 percent, according to the electoral authority’s figures – the highest ever in the country.

In comparison, voter turnout in the previous election in 2022 was around 63 percent. The previous record figure was 73.51 percent in the 2002 election.

At the same time, representatives of Viktor Orbán’s camp and the opposition have started accusing each other of electoral fraud. Both parties have set up special phone lines and email addresses where voters are encouraged to report fraud.

No exit polls will be conducted – the vote count will be updated gradually by the electoral authority. Early results are expected later in the evening.”

Here is the link to the electoral authority (you can switch to English), but so far they have not started reporting any votes:

    1. A bit alarming that he claims it was a democratic election, while at the same time being confident in a victory for Fidesz and Orbán.

“Sunday’s election was democratic. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s chief of staff Gergely Gulyás stated this shortly after the polling stations closed,” writes Reuters.

At the same time, he expresses confidence that the ruling party Fidesz will secure a majority. However, polls indicate that challenger Péter Magyar and his Tisza party are likely to become the largest party by a significant margin.

The record-high voter turnout – 77.8 percent – is credited to Fidesz according to Gulyás.”

    2. Exciting. Orban will hardly accept the election result if he doesn’t win. And then he will receive support from the USA and Russia.

If, against all odds, it is Orban who manages to win the game by a small margin, he will, together with Russia, try to dismantle democracy and turn Hungary into a Belarus in the EU.

  23. Iran – USA

“The US fleet will block all ships trying to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz, writes Donald Trump on Truth Social.

“Every Iranian who shoots at us, or at peaceful ships, will be blown to hell,” Trump continues.

Trump also says that he has instructed the US Navy to locate and stop all ships in international waters that have paid Iran’s customs.

“No one who pays an illegal fee will have free passage on the open sea.”

He also claims that the blockade will start soon, and that other countries will be involved.

“Iran will not profit from this illegal extortion.””

“The Iranian Revolutionary Guard writes in a post on X that Iranian security forces have “full control” over the Strait of Hormuz. AFP reports.

“The enemy will be caught in a deadly whirlpool in the strait if it makes a misstep,” writes the Revolutionary Guard.

The comment comes after Donald Trump claimed that the US Navy has initiated a blockade where they stop all maritime traffic in or out of the Strait of Hormuz.”

Donald Trump threatens once again to attack Iran’s energy infrastructure if no agreement is reached, reports AFP. He also takes the opportunity to threaten China with 50% tariffs if Beijing sends weapons to Iran.

In an interview with Fox News, the president says, among other things, that oil and gasoline prices will drop when the war is over. But he adds:

“The price of oil and gasoline may be lower before the midterm election, or maybe a little higher.”

Furthermore, Trump says that he expects Iran to come back to the negotiating table and “give us everything we want.”

He also claims that NATO now wants to help with the Strait of Hormuz, and he learns that several countries, including the UK, will send minesweepers.

The US Navy’s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which he wrote about in a post on Truth Social earlier in the afternoon, will “take a little while,” he says.

    1. “Military vessels approaching the Strait of Hormuz will be seen as a violation of the ceasefire, according to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, as reported by Reuters.

Such vessels will be treated “harshly and decisively,” according to a statement on Iranian state TV.

According to the Revolutionary Guard, Iran’s navy has full control over the strait, but it adds that it is open to non-military vessels “according to specific rules”.”

    2. ‘Furthermore, Trump says that he expects Iran to return to the negotiating table and “give us everything we want.”‘

Of course, one doesn’t know how literal this is, but as it is written, it is certainly an interesting view on “negotiation”.

  24. Off-Topic, Stegra now seems to be saved

“The Wallenberg family is entering as the new largest owner of the crisis-stricken steel company Stegra, sources tell DI. Only formalities are said to remain before the financing is complete.

The bill for the rescue operation is said to amount to 15 billion SEK. But the lenders do not need to contribute new money, instead releasing nearly 10 billion in already agreed loans that have been frozen, the newspaper writes.

The Wallenberg consortium will take around half of the 15 billion and is also said to take over the chairman position.”
    https://omni.se/kallor-wallenberg-blir-storsta-agare-i-krisande-stegra/a/2pVPMa

“The fact that the Wallenberg family is taking the lead in saving the crisis-stricken steel company Stegra is described as a collective relief among the parties that DI has spoken to.

    – The fact that the Wallenbergs are coming in means that Stegra will become part of the elite of Swedish industry and will never be allowed to go bankrupt, says a source.

Among the lenders, there are now more positive tones. One source says that there has always been a belief in Stegra’s business model and product – unlike the situation with Northvolt towards the end.”

    1. Good for the future of Swedish steel! Otherwise, compare with GB which hasn’t kept up. Soon no steel producer left thanks to old-fashioned thinking. Today’s nicest news.

      1. Yes, very positive!

Although I would prefer it to be only the second nicest news of the day.
I hope to see an early election result where it’s obvious that Orbán is out.. 😄

  25. The election in Hungary, looks good so far after almost 15% of the votes have been counted.

Then I guess it’s in the countryside where the counting goes fastest, and from what I’ve read, that’s where Orbán has the most supporters.

    1. The following text has been translated from Swedish to English:

There is no talk about what it would take for Orban to lose. Namely, that the Social Democrats, for example, stopped their attempts to get elected. The opposition joined forces with Péter Magya to form a strong opposition in order to win. Exciting to see what will come of this.

  26. If Orban is ousted from power tonight, I will forget Johan’s attacks on my sense of style. It has been top-notch throughout the centuries and still is now.

  27. MilitaryNewUA at X:

French companies Turgis & Gaillard and Renault are developing a cruise missile called Chorus — a direct analogue of the Ukrainian “Flamingo”. According to Zone Militare, the missile will have a 500 kg warhead, a range of up to 3,000 km, and will cost around €100,000 per unit. The French defence ministry has officially stated that Chorus is an analogue of the Ukrainian missile.
