Russian losses in Ukraine
Unfortunately, Russia’s terrorist attacks continue to increase in scale, once again we see record numbers of destroyed UAVs. How many actually reached their targets, we do not know of course and strangely enough, Ukraine tends to have a slightly better ratio of destroyed ones the larger the attack. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that it holds true. The previous record was at 1355, which is an increase of almost 200 units.
For Ukraine to survive the winter, additional support is needed in terms of energy supply. If you have the means, please consider donating to Power Up Ukraine. Besides energy supply, Europe needs to assist Ukraine with more air defense, and preferably with countermeasures and intel to help them disrupt production. By the way, when will Germany finally send the Taurus to Ukraine as they practically promised ages ago?

Off-Topic
Strange, as soon as I’m away from the office on long-distance errands when it’s a workday, something goes wrong. You may remember the standstill in May that lasted for several hours. Now when I came back late afternoon, there were problems again. Luckily, the blog was not affected this time.
After several hours of troubleshooting, it turned out to be a hard drive that was starting to fail, yet it didn’t alert about any errors. Those sneaky strange errors are the worst because you always think it’s something else causing the problems and look in the wrong place.
Instead of watching the exciting final match in Curling yesterday, one had to stay here at work to install new hardware and perform a reset. One thinks it’s boring at first before realizing that if one doesn’t have worse worries than that, one shouldn’t complain.
One is infinitely better off than those struggling in Ukraine.
Even better than some competing in the Olympics:

Yes, it could have been worse. The Olympics should not be overestimated:

Oooohhh.. It hurt just to look at!
Oh my God 😳
Russia must be terribly pleased with their attacks… Damn.
“💔 Russians killed three children under 2 years old in Kharkiv region overnight. There was a UAV (drone) attack on a private residential sector in Bohodukhiv. As a result of a direct hit, a house was completely destroyed.” https://bsky.app/profile/militarynewsua.bsky.social/post/3mekw7iolpk2h
Unfortunately, it seems that Ukraine may face a long economic uphill battle once the war is over. At the same time, I believe, and hope, that we in Europe will continue to support them in every possible way long after the fighting has ceased.
“Ukraine’s debt is ballooning. By the end of last year, the country owed over $213 billion to creditors — a hair’s breadth away from the size of the country’s entire economy.”
https://kyivindependent.com/ukraines-ballooning-debt-explained/
Yes, war is expensive, and in an ideal world, Russia would receive a hefty war indemnity to pay to Ukraine.
However, Russia is unlikely to pay anything, that’s not how Russia operates, so Europe simply has to seize the frozen Russian assets and send them to Ukraine.
There is also a risk that a Trumpian USA, if Ukraine has loans from there, will use Ukraine as a colony until the loans are repaid, and then Europe will have to step in and rescue Ukraine from poverty once Trump’s bankers have taken their share.
“Russian authorities report an immediate shortage of at least 2.3 million workers. Due to the war, Moscow is now turning to India to get migrant workers to the country, Reuters reports.
In 2021, Russia approved work permits for 5,000 Indian citizens – last year, 72,000 permits were approved for Indians.
In December, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi signed an agreement making it easier for Indians to work in Russia, and the Russian government has announced that they can accept an ”unlimited number” of Indian workers.”

“More Indians are moving to Russia to work, especially in factories and on farms to help the country with the labor shortage, Reuters reports.
Often, Indian workers take jobs with wages that the local population is not willing to work for. The average wage for packing vegetables on a farm is about 50,000 rubles, equivalent to about 5,700 Swedish kronor.
– In India, there is little money but here there is a lot of money. The work is here, says 23-year-old Sahil, who works on a farm that relies on Indian workers.
There is currently an immediate shortage of at least 2.3 million workers in Russia, a shortage exacerbated by the war.” https://omni.se/indiska-arbetare-flyttar-till-ryssland-finns-pengar/a/xr8lbB
Wondering how long they are allowed to work on the farms before being sent to the front. For the imported “workers” from Africa and Afghanistan, it could be just days or weeks before they had to run across no man’s land.

Off-Topic, US Economy
If this spreads, the US will be forced to raise interest rates to attract other investors, which will also cause regular interest rates to rise (regardless of what Trump wants) and ultimately the costs of the national debt will increase (and thus also the national debt).
So, this is mainly due to dissatisfaction with the US, as the US economy is not doing poorly (although there are signs of weakening), but it can still lead to higher interest rates, less consumption, fewer investments, fewer jobs in a vicious cycle.
Trump is truly doing what is best for the US!
“American government bonds continue to fall as Chinese authorities urge the country’s banks to reduce their holdings due to concerns about increasing volatility. This is reported by Bloomberg, citing sources with insight.
Authorities have both sent instructions to banks to limit their purchases and urged institutions with large exposures to reduce them. The measure is justified as risk diversification, but it can strengthen an ongoing trend where countries like India and Brazil have already reduced their holdings of American government securities.
– It is the latest evidence that a pattern is beginning to emerge and a sign that long-term structural outflows from the dollar are not a mirage, says Macquarie Group’s Gareth Berry to the news agency.”

Then we also have this, and if it’s not just us in Sweden who have started to avoid US funds, it can also have an effect in the long run. Perhaps not so much that the funds themselves crash (unless there are huge outflows), but rather that the companies owned by the funds may have a harder time raising money for investments, etc.
But for something noticeable to happen, it of course requires not only individuals to stop buying US funds, but also for large funds and institutions to choose to opt out of the US.
“Swedes’ new savings in funds increased by 4.5 billion SEK in January. This is stated in a report from the Swedish Investment Fund Association.
Global funds and US funds saw the biggest declines, while Sweden funds went against the trend with a net inflow of just over 8 billion SEK. European funds also had continued net deposits in January.
– Active fund savers continued to withdraw from US funds, and now in January we also saw net outflows from global funds. Instead, attention turned to our domestic markets, says Fredrik Hård, economist at the Swedish Investment Fund Association.”

“🔝🔥 Sumy region. Ukrainian attack drone “Vampire” single-handedly destroys a Russian assault group of five occupiers.”
“More details emerged of the terrible Russian strike on Bohodukhiv, Kharkiv region. A whole family gone, pregnant mom in hospital with multiple injuries. The family was trapped under the rubble after the Russian strike. Dad, two toddler boys and a little girl killed by Russian terrorism.”

Now apparently South Korea is selling everything and buying its own national debt.
China some kind of new guidelines.
and El Paso?
All buttons at once
The dollar strengthened around half past one, we’ll see if it holds.
El-Paso is probably quite strange, are they planning an air attack on Mexico?
What about El Paso?
Airport in the USA closes suddenly – no one is allowed to land
massi and epstein – have checked him out and he seems sensible.
That’s where we’re starting to get somewhere
Did you see the connection starlink off and then the Russians started leaving Iran?
China has put forward more fleet but RU is backing off.
USA has risen as one hoped Europe would do 😭
The US military is respected, and they are used to projecting power and waging a little war here and there around the world, so it feels strange that Europe would do the same.
The world situation is such now that even we must be able to take strong measures when needed, otherwise we will be overrun by our former allies.
Ajfan I say. Great if Iran is pressured but that probably also means that Starlink may be activated again.
OT, Trump Approval Ratings
The Economist’s surveys most closely resemble a rollercoaster. Right now -18% weighted, while the latest survey seems to be around -19.
According to the New York Times, which weights several surveys, it’s not quite as erratic, but Trump currently has the lowest values so far. The approval rate has dropped to 40% for the first time, while disapproval stands at 56%, which it did for a brief period earlier. Adding them up, it becomes -16%.
Looking at the curves since around May 20, one can sense two clear diverging lines. Sooner or later, it will probably level out. We thought we were there around the turn of the year, but it was apparently a bit too early.
🔥 The hunt for the enemy “Molniya” continues in the Kupyansk area. The Sapsan unmanned systems battalion of the 14th OMBR alone shot down 50 drones in two weeks. In addition, they shot down: Prince Oleg UAV – 1 unit; ZALA UAV – 2 units; Skat UAV – 2 units;”

Russia is starting to be on the ropes.
They are leaving all their “allies” in the lurch, Syria, Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, etc. Trump only needs to tweet a harsh word about a country and the Russians lose it.
Russians evacuated | Ekonomibladet
And then they bring out Lavrov to cry about how stupid the rest of us are, interspersed with threats that they will indeed take military action if the West reinforces its military presence in Greenland. And the USA is so dumb for not following the agreement that Putin thought they had reached in Alaska.
Lavrov also cries that Russia should also get security guarantees because Ukraine’s Nazis are so terrible and only want to fight with the kind Russians who have never meant anyone any harm.
And then they lure poor people from poor countries to work in the factories since their own workers are too busy dying in Ukraine, and the completely non-racist Russians let the newly arrived “factory workers” from Africa go straight to the gas… no, to the military office to then act as drone bait in no man’s land in Ukraine.
Doesn’t sound like a country with a bright future to me.
They are digging their own grave.
Good morning!
