SLAVA UKRAINI

Ukraine has intensified its drone attacks into Russia and is now targeting multiple objectives.
Yesterday, there were reports of two attacks on Russian refineries, a fuel depot, and a factory.

Today, it is reported that they have also taken out a natural gas pipeline from Central Asia and a drone storage facility:

As you have probably noticed, we now have ads on the site. The ads and their placement are managed by Google, which also tries to optimize it automatically. We will let it run for a few weeks to see where it ends up. Some placements feel quite large, but it might get better.
We will then post a survey to hear what you think, if there are too many ads, if there are certain placements that are particularly annoying, etc. so we can make any adjustments after that.

  1. AFU: “In total, 138 fighting were recorded during the past day.
Yesterday, the enemy launched three missiles and 67 air strikes, fired seven missiles and dropped 140 controlled air bombs. In addition, carried out 5642 shells, in particular 96 from jet fire systems, and deployed 4482 kamikaze drones to impress.”
  2. I have no idea how quickly a gas pipeline can be expected to be repaired, let’s hope it takes a long time as it supplied both this and that:

“💥 Russia: Ukrainian drones struck Gazprom’s Central Asia-Center pipeline in Volgograd region yesterday. It’s offline and emergency repairs being made. Pipeline supplied gas to:
    – Demikhovsky Machine-Building Plant
    – MiG aircraft production complex #1
    – Magnum-K munitions plant”

  3. “Ryssarna har avancerat betydligt mot Siversk, rensat ukrainska skyttegravar i skogsbruksområdena norr om dammen/reservoaren… saker.

Ryssarna avancerade längs järnvägslinjen, hoppade längs med rännstensrören och rörde sig sedan upp längs trädraden. Fälten är en dödsfälla, varje ryss som försöker korsa fälten slutar död.”

  4. The morning front report from the past 24 hours shows increased activity in the short term while it is decreasing on a broad front in Donetsk.

In the North Slobozhansky and Kursk directions, 🇺🇦AFU repelled 20 Russian attacks. Over the past day, 🇷🇺AFRF carried out 15 air strikes, dropped a total of 24 guided aerial bombs and carried out 279 artillery strikes, including six from MLRSs.

  7. USA – Customs – Africa

The USA is losing its grip on Africa, as Johan often advocates, Europe should increase its efforts to become a fair partner. Unfortunately, history is still working against us.

“Countries in Africa turn to China after Trump’s customs duties

Several African countries, including Libya, South Africa, Algeria, and Tunisia, have been hit with some of Donald Trump’s highest tariffs.

China, which has long been strengthening its influence on the continent and is now its largest trading partner, sees a golden opportunity.

“We are heading straight into China’s hands,” says Nigerian economist Bismarck Rewane to CNN.

China has offered African countries to mitigate the impact of US tariffs. In June, they announced that they would remove import duties for almost all their trading partners on the continent.

According to South African researcher Neo Letswalo, the USA is gradually relinquishing its global leadership. The fact that Trump has not made agreements with African countries makes it a “sitting duck” for China, he says.”

    1. “Donald Trump imposes 30 percent trade tariffs on South Africa from and including August 7. It is the highest tariff rate in sub-Saharan Africa – in the north, Algeria and Libya have received equally high tariffs.

It is a major blow for South Africa – the USA is the country’s largest trading partner, writes the BBC. The tariffs are expected to result in many job losses in the automotive and agricultural industries.

The government has announced measures to support export-dependent companies, including opening a support line, Reuters reports. They still hope to reach a new agreement.”

        1. Ukraine wanted to decide for themselves and their partners when they were invaded by Russia.

Personally, I don’t think one should use their power to force their will on other countries.

It’s unlikely to make them more favorably disposed towards the USA.

          1. Westley Richard

But what if the countries do not have the same perception of democracy, freedom of speech, and human rights?

Should one then remain silent and not influence them?

            1. There’s no need to be silent. But introducing a bunch of tariffs and crap just because Trump doesn’t think Bolsonaro should be convicted is just pathetic. Should Sweden start meddling in everyone else’s business? No, we should mind our own business, but we can have an opinion.

              1. Westley Richard

Several parties believe that we should stop trading with Israel.

In my opinion, it is going further than imposing a customs duty.

Brazil has taken on freedom of speech and not just a political legal case where Lula will retaliate for being imprisoned for corruption.

It’s a bit strange if we always turn a blind eye to the left’s democratic abuses and cry as soon as Trump doesn’t praise the left.

You can’t turn a blind eye with the left eye and be credible.

  8. Just two days after the Ukrainian anti-corruption authorities Nabu and Sapo regained their independence, they announce that they have uncovered a major corruption scandal, reports Reuters.

“The core of the scheme was state contracts with suppliers at intentional overpricing,” they write on social media.

The contracts concerned the delivery of drones and signal jamming equipment, and several involved parties are said to have received up to 30 percent of the contracts’ value in bribes.

A sitting member of parliament, two local government representatives, and an unspecified number of national guardsmen are suspected. Four individuals have been arrested.”

If a politician is prosecuted for a crime, it should be considered a political activity, which is therefore illegal, and one risks being prosecuted oneself.

Trump has already arranged a law that makes a president immune.

If Smith is convicted for this, the implication will be that no politicians will be able to be prosecuted because it would mean election interference.

Trump is going after Smith even though he dropped the charges and resigned. There is talk that Trump may hold grudges, and it seems to be true.

“Jack Smith, the special prosecutor who led two federal investigations against Donald Trump, is being investigated for violating a law that prohibits federal employees from engaging in political activity. This is reported by the New York Post.

The investigation is being led by the U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC). It was initiated after Republican Senator Tom Cotton on Wednesday asked the OSC to investigate Smith for “unprecedented election interference in the 2024 presidential election,” claiming that Smith tried to politically harm Trump.

Jack Smith led the investigations into the storming of the Capitol and Trump’s handling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago. This made him a frequent target of Trump’s attacks.

Smith dropped the charges against Trump and resigned in January after Trump’s victory in the presidential election.”

    1. Westley Richard

The entire American judicial system is politicized, from the local sheriff, prosecutors, and judges being largely politically appointed.

The difference is the polarization that has occurred, where they are eager to prosecute and imprison opponents. In Sweden, there is still some form of cross-party agreement that former politicians get some cushy job.

Kamala Harris has taken a break from politics. It is welcomed by several strategists and party activists in the Democrats, reports Politico. The site has spoken to over twenty officials who believe that the party needs a new candidate for the 2028 presidential election. Several are also skeptical about letting her have a prominent position in next year’s midterm elections. They point out that many Democrats at the congressional and local levels performed better than Harris in the last election. A party strategist in California says that Harris is so associated with Joe Biden that she is not a draw for Democratic voters. – I wouldn’t want her in my district, says the source.

    https://omni.se/a/LMVK1P

    Is she now permanently sidelined?

    1. Maybe and that would probably be best, but on the other hand:

“Opinion polls show, however, that Harris is the most popular candidate when people are asked which Democrat should run in the next presidential election.”

Which may not really say much considering how few people actually trust the Democrats right now.. 😄

      1. Westley Richard

KH was not brilliant in the primary elections and had to become VP to attract some of the voters who were not attracted to Biden. The lack of proper primary elections last year meant that no other Democrat got any time in the spotlight. There is no alternative to KH until someone starts their presidential candidacy.

        1. Yes, it’s starting to be time for the Democrats to put forward some suitable candidates but so far it doesn’t seem like anything is happening.

          1. Flurrevuppen

In addition to candidates, they also need a policy.

And probably a policy that does not focus on open borders and rights within women’s sports and the same locker rooms and toilets.

            Seems distant at the moment…

Sweden tries to preserve the geese – Norway shoots them dead

An infected conflict has been going on between Norway and Sweden for several decades – about the barnacle goose. Sweden has invested millions in saving the bird species, which is one of the country’s most threatened.

But when the geese fly over the Norwegian border, they risk being shot.

In the Swedish conservation project, coordinated by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, birds have been imported from Russia, breeding facilities have been opened, and birds have been released into nature.

The problem is that when Swedish geese fly into Norway, they risk being shot by Norwegian authorities.

The bird has been described as a potential threat to the Norwegian barnacle goose by the Norwegian Environment Agency and the bird organization Birdlife Norway.

    https://www.svt.se/nyheter/inrikes/sverige-forsoker-bevara-gassen-norge-skjuter-ihjal-dem

So we have invested enormous resources in the barnacle goose without agreeing with Norway on which birds to focus on. Projects like these should be cross-border.

    1. Imagine how much easier it would have been if we had kept Norway Swedish, then we would have avoided such infected border conflicts where the Norwegians shoot our feathered inhabitants! 😄

Agree that it would have been worth talking to them beforehand.

Although who knows if anyone could even have thought in advance that Norway would have an almost racist attitude towards our mountain geese and start shooting them as soon as they cross the border while they themselves are also trying to preserve the species.

On the other hand, maybe one can understand that, we apparently have brought Russian mountain geese here!
Hope we have done security checks and deep interviews with them beforehand, so we know they are not on Putin’s side.

      1. Westley Richard

In Sweden, it is almost mandatory to shoot and eradicate invasive species, unless it’s a bird that has flown astray, then the birdwatchers pilgrimage to be able to check it off.

  14. Trump, approval ratings Fox News should be one of the more pro-Trump sources and they have updated their survey. Now they seem to only conduct surveys about once a month and only report a few months. Additionally, there is no history, so it’s difficult to see where it has been before and correlate it with other surveys to see if they follow the same patterns. The curves become quite flat.

In their survey, 46% are positive, 54% are negative, and 0% don’t know (sounds strange with 0% who don’t know), which results in -8% if we compare it with the other survey from The Economist where it stands at -15%.

A clear dip can be seen in the middle of April with a later recovery and then another downward trend, which also matches The Economist. The differences are that according to The Economist, the dip at the end is now larger than it was in April, while in the Fox survey, the decline is only hinted at.

      1. Yes, they have chosen a silly relationship on the chart with a long X-axis and short Y-axis, which makes it very difficult to see the changes.

    1. Westley Richard

I interpret it as unchanged confidence among Republicans, increasing among Independents, and decreasing among Democrats.

For Trump, it’s probably not particularly important what the Democrats think of him, he probably doesn’t care much about their confidence, they won’t vote for him or the Republicans anyway.

  15. I hope UA will have the capacity to continue with the rear combat of fuel and logistics. High pressure so that it becomes noticeable for Moscow.

    1. They have OVERCAPACITY

If they get it is what is important and Europe and the USA have stopped Ukraine so far 2025 – Sirsky has told us.

      1. If we are to pay full price to Trump for American weapons, they should not be able to condition their use for these, or even less for UA’s own weapons. The fact that Europe imposes limitations is beyond my understanding, and the recent month’s Russian terror attacks should, if anything, show that it doesn’t help to be restrained. Where is even Merz and the willing coalition? Eating Schweinhaxe with knödel and krautz? Germans generally take vacations in August-September, right?

  16. I don’t understand the reasoning. Traffic flows regardless of the roads you have, and it is much more environmentally friendly to have better and more efficient roads than for vehicles to get stuck in traffic jams and have to spend significantly longer times in traffic.

In addition, lower costs (and happier commuters).

Of course, there are pitfalls where it has been shown that new nice road sections lead to worse overall flow if connecting roads are not optimal, but I assume that has been taken into account in the planning.

“The planned motorway Cross-connection Södertörn has been appealed to the Supreme Administrative Court by the Society for Nature Conservation, reports SVT News. The reason is that the road is planned to cross six nature reserves, which are partially to be abolished. – The car traffic that is to be directed into previously unaffected areas is an incredible intrusion. This means both noise and increased emissions,” says Marica Lindblad of the Society for Nature Conservation, who is also active in the Green Party.”

    https://omni.se/a/rPqQlR

    1. Is it about the bypass Stockholm? I don’t understand why anyone passing through Stockholm without visiting must go into the mess. It is possible to turn off around Uppsala towards Strängnäs and vice versa, but not suitable for heavier traffic.

  17. The pendulum has swung in the drone weapon but what we see now is politics.

Ukraine could have blown up several refineries a week, they could have liberated Putin on May 9th and so on – indisputable.

I now put my reputation on the line that this retreat is politically motivated and that the line is where it is because of it.

No matter how I calculate, UA has a formidable offensive capacity.

The offensive of 2022 was in September so it has happened before.

Those submarines are in response to the Russian nuclear threat against UA.

The same with the nuclear weapons in the UK and the threat to storm Kaliningrad.

Politically this, Europe seems to have given up completely so the hope lies with Trump.

Alternative two – Ukraine awaits an attack on the Baltics.

It is indisputable that they have a great offensive capacity and we also know who wants to use it so they are held back as usual.

  18. “Analysis: Trump’s rule increasingly resembles something from Orwell

There have been similar signs before, but this was the week when Donald Trump’s rule took on authoritarian traits, writes CNN’s Aaron Blake. First came the news that the White House pressured the Smithsonian’s historical museum to remove an information sign about Trump’s two impeachments. A few days later, Trump announced that he is firing a statistics chief at the labor authority due to poor job numbers. Blake calls the development “Orwellian” and potentially very damaging. It is a sure recipe to come up with fabricated figures. Figures that investors, business leaders, and political decision-makers will then have to deal with.”

    1. Westley Richard

The Smithsonian will include Donald Trump’s two impeachments in an updated presentation “in the coming weeks” after references to them were removed, the museum said in a statement Saturday.

That statement from the Washington DC museum also denied that the Trump administration pressured the Smithsonian to remove the references to his impeachments during his first presidency.

The revelation that Trump was no longer listed among impeached presidents sparked concern that history was being whitewashed to appease the president.

We were not asked by any administration or other government official to remove content from the exhibit” about presidential power limits, the Smithsonian statement said.

A museum spokesperson, Phillip Zimmerman, had previously pledged that “a future and updated exhibit will include all impeachments,” but it was not clear when the new exhibit would be installed. The museum on Saturday did not say when in the coming weeks the new exhibit will be ready.

One should probably take some news about Trump with a grain of salt.
