I guess Turkey can make a nice profit here, partly getting rid of worthless air defense systems and partly being able to charge more than they paid for them since Russia seems to be getting desperate. It’s probably Putin who needs more close defense for his palaces.

Russian propaganda at work again: in Filiia, Dnipropetrovsk region, Russians shelled with MLRS and FPVs, then sent a swimmer to plant a flag on one house. Minutes later, Ukrainian troops cleared the area, tore it down and raised the Ukrainian flag. To our knowledge, Filiia remains AFU controlled.
And the swimmer?
He unfortunately survived.
Putin will personally award him the medal Baddaren of the blue degree for his efforts for Mother Russia.

Denmark has chosen the Franco-Italian SAMP/T long-range air defense system over the US Patriot, signing a $9.1B deal for 8 units – the country’s largest single defense investment, FT reports. The first system is expected to be operational already in 2025.
Eight units! Best we check that the Dane doesn’t have invasion plans, because with that number they cover both Denmark and Scania.
Is everything calm? Air defense systems can’t be used as ground-to-ground attack missiles, right? 🙄
They have probably planned to take down the Gripen when we discover that the Scanians have started eating open sandwiches and drinking strong beer for lunch. Plus, they probably have a Ukrainian weapon factory in Denmark soon, they have probably managed to make some clever modifications to SAM systems?

Would like to highlight a post by N Eklund in yesterday’s thread:
The question is whether Europe can achieve the same air superiority over Iran as Israel did? Or at least that we have the capability to do what Ukraine should have done a long time ago, bomb RU’s economy to pieces.
I think this is a part that hasn’t been talked about much when discussing what the war in 2025 looks like.
Regarding the drones in Poland, I believe as usual that it’s wrong to think that there is ONE reason, usually in analyses people want to find “the reason”. In reality, you weigh pros and cons on two different scales and see which way it tips and by how much.
One major reason (that I haven’t seen anyone mention, but haven’t read everything) I believe is that RU wants to make Europe hesitate when it comes to sending weapons to Ukraine. Who can blame Poland in this situation if they want to strengthen their air defense and not send to Ukraine? Didn’t a boat with weapons promised to Ukraine arrive in Israel as a result of October 7th? This is something that could indicate that RU only wants to make Europe nervous, not angry.
Speaking of reasons (in plural), I saw a teaser yesterday that Snapsavora threatened retaliation against Denmark for supplying fuel/fuel systems(?) to Ukraine for missiles.

“Kremlin:
“If Ukraine produces cruise missile propellant on Danish soil, it will be increasingly difficult not to see Denmark as a country directly involved in the Ukrainian conflict”

Also provides some perspective on Denmark’s announcement of the procurement of air defense systems just a few days after the drone attack on Poland.

I previously wrote exactly that, that it may have been what they intended. It was in connection with news that LV would be sent to Poland.
Make sure that as many countries as possible start worrying about their own defense so they send less. Ideally, the population should also become scared so they not only demand that, but also want to see reduced support to avoid provoking Russia and thereby avoid being attacked.
Just saw Jay in Kyiv’s latest.
Among other things about the drones in Poland and he mentions the same thing, that it’s to get Europe to send air defense and weapons to other countries instead of to Ukraine.

This started a long time ago and I remember that in 2023 we warned that all countries’ EODs are looking at their own terms of reference first?
That all weapon producers have a long queue.
Hungary and Slovakia were early with large weapon purchases, where did they get the money from.
Off-Topic, Israel – Palestine
“Israel’s former army chief Herzi Halevi says that over 200,000 Palestinians have been injured or killed in the war in Gaza, reports The Guardian. – This is not a mild war. We took off the gloves from the first minute. Unfortunately not earlier, said Halevi during the meeting first highlighted by Ynet. During a meeting with an agricultural cooperative in southern Israel, Halevi said that 10 percent of the 2.2 million people living in Gaza have been killed. The figure corresponds well with statistics from Gaza’s health department – something that Israel has dismissed as Hamas propaganda. According to the department, 64,718 have been killed and 163,859 injured, many of whom are believed to have died.”

Of course, it would be good, but I don’t understand why Trump himself can’t start with the USA.
Could it be that he feels confident that not all NATO countries will agree to it, so he can blame that?
He did not demand that everyone must buy oil from the USA, which one could almost have thought.
OPEC is set to increase its production in October, I guess they (and also the USA) will have to increase more than they had planned if this goes through.
On the other hand, there are probably not many importers left. I guess Turkey is the largest importer and they probably won’t want to stop if it means significantly higher prices for them.
“❗️I am ready to impose serious sanctions against the Russian Federation when all NATO countries do the same and stop buying Russian oil, – Trump.”
https://bsky.app/profile/militarynewsua.bsky.social/post/3lypocviioc27
Is Hungary a part of NATO?
Yes, and of course they will also want to avoid, but without the pipeline maybe they are not as dependent.
Trump and Orbán are BFFs, so Trump has once again managed to maneuver away from sanctions against Moscow.
“If all NATO countries comply with Donald Trump’s demands for a stop in the purchase of Russian oil, it will lead to higher oil prices. This is stated by experts that TT has spoken to, after the president presented conditions for new American sanctions against Russia. Handelsbanken’s raw material analyst Christian Kopfer says that low oil prices are an important issue for Trump, but he outlines a scenario where prices first rise and then fall. This could happen after countries within the so-called OPEC cooperation release their reserves, and the US speeds up drilling. – So, if you think a bit conspiratorially, one could imagine that Trump wants such a situation because it benefits American oil producers and thus the USA in the long run. Trump also wants NATO countries to impose tariffs on Chinese goods ranging from 50 to 100 percent.”
https://omni.se/a/kwlGwQ
He says that because he knows he doesn’t have to sanction Russia then. He probably has a deal with Knorrban and Erdoodågan.
If they happen to “accidentally” shoot an Iskander into Poland, maybe we will see a stronger reaction?

NO one wants to invoke Article 5 here, not Europe, not the USA, and certainly not Russia.
That is my interpretation of the situation.
which gives Russia a lot of room to wreak havoc but they cannot start invading territory so maybe we have a balance there?
Europe cannot have its fellow brigades slaughtered in an FPV rain either so it is some kind of terror balance
“New details of the SBU drone attack on the port of Primorsk: two tankers of the Russian Federation’s “shadow fleet” were hit
According to Reuters, two Russian tankers, Kusto and Cai Yun, were damaged. The ships belong to the Russia’s “shadow fleet” and sail under the flag of the Seychelles.
After the SBU drone strike, Russia’s largest oil export port in the Baltic Sea suspended operations. Experts note that Primorsk’s turnover reaches $100 million per day. Therefore, even a short-term shutdown of the port causes enormous economic damage to Russia.”
Russian losses are decreasing, but the intensity in both the indirect package with FPV and FAB is increasing, as well as RU attacks – is that correct from the numbers above?
Yes, it’s heading that way, even though I think it looks like it has stabilized recently. The sharp increase in FPV has leveled off and even had a slight dip. KWIA has not continued to decline and artillery has remained fairly stable for a while.
North Luhansk, UA brigades have been updated and they seem to be conducting a lower-priority delaying action in the area?
It’s a bit overshadowed since everyone is focusing on the Donetsk area, but it doesn’t look good at all up there.
In the Kreminna forests, they are now releasing them bit by bit.
Can’t the EU take the frozen Russian assets and offer some to, for example, Hungary? Preferably publicly so that the Hungarian population (and RU) can hear Orban’s wavering on whether he will accept it or not.
Whichever way he chooses, he will be in a dilemma.
Excellent idea 👍
Can’t we use the funds to buy Hungarian and Slovakian, and Serbian weapons for Ukraine?
😄👍 Good idea!
Ships in the shadow fleet have thus been bombed in the Gulf of Finland. Shouldn’t the ship owners take notice if it continues? Doubtful that they have insurance coverage. Questionable if it’s even possible for them to insure the ships.
Or do the ships have no value at all other than as missions in the shadow fleet. They must have scrap value at least. If the ship goes down in the Gulf of Finland, it will probably be difficult to get the scrap value out.
At best, one can stop the exports because no one wants to rent out ships anymore. Alternatively, demand extremely high rent.
Keep bombing the fleet when it’s in a Russian port!
It’s a lovely escalation from Ukraine that evidently has Europe’s blessing now 😀
Don’t know what the triggering factor was, could it have been Trump?
Or that they got wind of RU’s further sabotage plans?
Here is what MS Copilot says about the matter: “It is entirely possible that more shipowners will decline freight from Russian ports….”
Let’s hope so. It would be a real blow to Russia.
Attacks will also complicate crew recruitment.

Had a discussion chat GPT a few months ago.
Where we concluded that Sweden (and we can probably assume the same applies to both Finland and the Baltics) would not be able to handle swarms of drones.
The risk we discussed was also whether swarms could be fired from parts of the so-called “shadow fleet” in the Baltic Sea and yes, it was a real scenario.
The big question still remains about China. What are they planning to do? How do they plan to do anything??
China has invested and continues to invest heavily in AI-driven military concepts and also has a major focus on various types of more or less autonomous units (aka robots) – both wheeled and variants on legs.
We also do not know WHERE these units are located and even less about their extent. It is (at least theoretically) possible that a number of units may have been moved both into the Zapad 25 exercise area, as well as in surrounding countries – including through diplomatic channels.
Yes, I could be wrong.
And, “unlikely” scenarios have been succeeding each other in recent years so… “unlikely” may no longer be so unlikely…
What we know:
China’s AI units have been showcased several years ago.
How they have since evolved is a question.
We also know that China supplies Russia to a large extent with weapons and technology, partly through proxies (North Korea) or through other means. We know that Chinese SF (special forces) have been present in Belarus before, but we do NOT know where they are NOW.
We know that China and Russia are (at least officially) on good terms with each other.
We know that China has an explicit goal of “world domination” – Made In China 2030/2050.
We know that Russia has imperial ambitions.
We know that a divided Europe benefits both of these ambitions.
We also know that Russian and Chinese logic and doctrine differ greatly from Western logic and doctrine.
This is what we know
Now comes a tough question.
Everyone believes that an attack on NATO/NATO country would be military suicide for an attacker.
But… is it really???
If 400-600 drones per day + other types of robots/missiles crash into various cities and especially military NATO installations… will NATO even be ABLE to handle a response???
Shouldn’t it be France or the UK with nuclear weapons then… but… do they have the “balls enough” for it???
If drones fall on different air bases… can NATO get aircraft up fast enough to even do anything???
I haven’t seen anyone pose this question… and Western doctrines so far seem a bit… rigid…
and… I could be wrong.
Ukraine, and perhaps Israel, are the only countries in the world that can currently successfully defend themselves against drone attacks, like Shahed. This is because they are either at war, or in Israel’s case, surrounded by hostile states or terrorist organizations.
The advantage for those defending themselves against drones like Shahed is that Shahed is slow, so if they are somewhat alert, bases further inside the countries are relatively safe, and after the first attack, the defense is naturally more prepared.
Here, the best defense is also the offense. One should strike at the places where they are launched from, but since they are small, unfortunately, that is almost impossible, so autonomous defense drones, and/or electronic defense, must be in place.
My nightmare scenario is still civilian cargo ships loaded with small autonomous drones released in swarms of thousands over our cities around the Baltic Sea, no one can protect themselves against that.
I believe NATO can defend itself, the bases are spread over such a large area, so the only way they could take out all the bases is if they are already deployed throughout the countries in advance, like trucks with double roofs that release a couple of hundred drones near a base at a given signal.
NATO will not be able to directly eliminate drone warfare, but what they can do is hit hard against their conventional military power. We know that Russia’s air defense is quite weak, and it has been shown that Russia is not as strong as it appears, so we should be able to take the war to their territory fairly quickly, and hitting the top of the pyramid may be the most effective.
Nuclear weapons may unfortunately have to be used, we can only hope that Russia is not so inclined to commit suicide, but the war cannot end until Russia is defeated, so we must be prepared to do what is necessary.
Drones are a scourge. If Russia gets hold of drone manufacturing materials, they can continue to terrorize Ukraine and the world almost indefinitely, so effective and mass-produced countermeasures must be developed, probably anti-drone drones.
One must become good at knocking out drones as much upstream as possible. Train bridges near China so that parts cannot be delivered. Substations near industries. Perhaps even all airplanes, including civilian ones? And all control towers. So workers from Africa cannot be flown in. Etc. Find ways to kill drone pilots as well.
