An excellent summary of Zelensky’s great speech by Free Ukraine – I think he has really annoyed Trump with this, what do you think?
And here is Zelensky’s speech at the start of the war
Did you survive Friday’s drinking, here it was drunk-posting and rum – if you missed the event, I recommend that you don’t miss next Friday because life will simply be more fun if you are there.
Last Saturday we were supposed to see “the most beautiful island in the Caribbean”, haggled with the boat but we ended up with a Peruvian family so we only needed to “just” pay 2000 SEK per family for a small boat that “you can have all day”.
30 minutes to the island – a restaurant that the boat driver probably had an agreement with because it was probably the worst and cost us another thousand for almost dog food. A bit odd with only male staff and very small cabins to sleep in, and the guests were only German women populating the sun loungers if you went by the language. The serving staff were friendly to the other side of the table and I could hardly order a beer π
On the way back we were supposed to “swim in the natural pool”, the photos on the website showed clear water with lots of fish. The boat stopped in waist-deep water that was completely murky due to the waves stirring up the sand – you could barely see your hand in front of you and there were no fish.
After 20 minutes, the captain said “vamonos, e tarde” and when we tried to argue that we should be able to stay out as long as we wanted since the guide had told us so, he just started the engine.
Back at the dock, he shamelessly asked for a tip which he did not receive.
I will post the analysis of Trump tomorrow morning because too much has happened, but Trump burned all his bridges last week and since it’s the anniversary, all of Europe’s leaders have of course (a bit late but Trump gave them a much-needed push…) accepted the invitations to come to Kiev so it’s a huge display of unity and resilience here. The Nordic countries actually stand out quite a bit.

Notably, Canada has done a lot lately, really a lot, and Trudeau seems to be able to make an okay choice on UA support.

Seems like everyone is there except Trump and at least I feel that he is completely cornered now, any leverage he might have had is gone after a round of worthless negotiations. Zelensky has continued all weekend to expose Trump’s dirty tricks.

And Putin knows this very well.
Germany now seems to have finally sorted out its domestic politics and Metz emerges as the winner, if Putin is not completely devoid of historical memory, there are small reasons for him to worry now. First the Soviet Union and then Russia have had a continuous influence operation to pacify Germany but with the Ukraine war, it simply went too far and they have now woken up, “Deutschland Erwache” sounds familiar in some way π²
Merz is a strong UA supporter who wants to send weapons and Taurus to Ukraine.
It looks to me like he can join forces with the SPD and die Grune and at least their Green party are staunch UA supporters, a bit unexpectedly.
Since the USA is leaving a vacuum, naturally the German industry sees the opportunity for major contracts in UA, so expect an industrial giant that is now breaking free and becoming Ukraine’s best friend.
The question is whether Trump hasn’t been the best German campaigner this past week π€£
Just over three years ago, this was posted by a Ukrainian soldier π₯
If you remember last fall when Zelensky was trying to sell his victory plan to Biden and the humiliation was total, I started pushing hard that the UA war was a winner and that Zelensky was a winner.
Biden dared not fully support Ukraine in the run-up to the election and Trump lied like a horse.
It came a little later than I predicted, but Trudeu has discovered that he gets much better numbers by supporting Ukraine and Germany’s Merz has almost gone to the election by fully supporting Ukraine and made a brilliant choice.
For Trump, it’s the opposite – his dirty play with Putin will be his downfall.
For me, it’s comforting that we’ve come to this point, Zelensky’s journey of humiliation in September was hard to watch.
It’s as if everything has been released and it’s of course because Trump wants to do everything in front of the cameras and show US treachery in all its glory – the enchantment has lifted.
Expect an even worse week from Trump because Zelensky has probably really annoyed him over the weekend π
By the way, Merz is VERY CLEAR that Ukraine should be supported in retaking ALL of its land. The right words have been said and now we will see it in action, which should have a high probability.
His entire political platform seems to almost be that and EU security.
Hegseth’s “it’s simply not realistic for UA to regain its land” and Trump’s “well, Putin has fought hard for it so it’s fair that he gets to keep it” will haunt Trump to the grave – a betrayal that will be recorded in the history books.

First! Nice, and I didn’t even have to make an effort…? Hey, has everyone gotten stuck in the thread of losses or at Cornu?? Monday and I’m already looking forward to Friday Fylla (TM) a la No.1!! That excursion, sounds like it was organized by a relative of the grumpy one??!! (“to trump” = to do a bad business deal and demand outrageously high prices from customers). Slava Ukraini!
haha, yes, it’s important to build up the expectations for the Friday party, which was really successful last Friday, simply a great event π

I believe Germany has better conditions now in any case. Unfortunately, Merz is known for “talk the walk” rather than “walk the talk.” But if Pistorius replaces our old steel heel, maybe things can get moving too, even though the parties are far apart on many issues.
So we probably need to be patient with Germany, a new government will need time before it is in place and the journey may be bumpy.
So true Lynx, is there perhaps a chance that the stop blocks that Scholz has installed, especially in the sale of violent weapons to Ukraine, will be lifted immediately?
After all, Germany also wants to make money on this war.
Want to make money?
The stoplights have driven Germany’s economy into the basement so they are probably FORCED to bring in some money.
Want to earn money?

I believe that SPD and the Union can find common ground there, when the rust starts to disappear. And above all, it’s high time to start placing new orders!

The eel hell must go now, his UA policy has crashed the party, and if they still stand behind him, they barely have any flour in the bag, do they?

Asking the tour guide for tips on a good restaurant is like asking Putin for a cup of tea.
More seriously, someone (I’ve forgotten who) mentioned something about receiving notifications for new posts in this morning’s thread. How do you set that up?
The new post notification is either on Bluesky where I circulate an email and talk it up to the skies
https://bsky.app/profile/johanno1.bsky.social
Or Substack, if you click subscribe you’ll get an email every time a new post is published and then you just have to come running here.
substack.com/@johanno1
We were thinking of having a notification here on the website but apparently there were no free applications available and after all, it is non-profit activities so we have to be cautious with costs. It apparently was possible to get a notification on your phone when someone replied to your post which I found attractive π
We didn’t even get to choose – the boat sailed in one direction, stopped somewhere with the words “go and eat now.”

Germany: My view on AfD is very negative. I’m not well informed, how bad are their connections to Russia? Is there a possibility that they could support CDU, like SD does in Sweden? How extreme are they?
AfD started as a eurosceptic party, founded by economists. It has since been taken over by a truly reactionary far-right fringe where some representatives openly flirt with Germany’s Nazi past. The German domestic intelligence service has classified AfD as a security risk partly for this reason.
So no German party will cooperate with them. An additional dimension is that about 60% of their voters openly say they would never vote for them if the traditional parties pursued a stricter migration policy. So if the new government manages to tighten up, I guess AfD will shrink back to a minor party.
Ok, thank you for the great answer! And interesting that they will probably lose votes later on, I didn’t know that either.
It’s my guess, it’s the migration policy that has given AfD the boost.
I am personally very focused on Ukraine, and AfD has clearly stated in several statements that they intend to betray Ukraine more than Trump has done now.
Then I believe that they will be a unifying factor that will make the others cooperate better, so even AfD will be a positive outcome for UA in the end.
It’s good to have an ace in the room sometimes, to create a harmonious collaboration with the others π
A bit stressful right now so I’ll settle for πππ!
Good thanks, that’s the minimum requirement to avoid scrutiny, to drive three upturns π
Same here I would say but I’m still trying to shake off the weekend and the trauma π

Off Topic
How is the Swedish sports federation acting foolishly?
I think/remember it’s not the first time a sports federation has overridden super talents who are not given the best opportunities to perform. Perhaps thinking of Zlatan, cross-country skiers, Pernilla Wahlgren and other alpine stars, and why not BjΓΆrn Borg in the Davis Cup.
What kind of popes does Swedish sports have in leadership positions in their federations? Hardly ever heard of athletes in these positions.
“After the summer Olympics success, that opportunity disappeared when the contracts were renegotiated. MΓΆregΓ₯rdh did not want to sign the contract and then the federation allegedly threatened to drop the star from the European Championship in Austria in October 2024.
– Three days before the European Championship last fall, the federation set a deadline and told Truls that “if you don’t sign, you can’t participate,” said Carl MΓΆregΓ₯rdh, father of the table tennis star, to SkΓ₯nska Dagbladet this weekend.”

We have some different rules here and as long as off-topic is something we like, it’s fine, like alcohol or ping pong.
Absolutely tone-deaf from the association π²
You are the KING of this! We like that. Brains are swirling around and if we allow diversity, it clicks and we come up with something revolutionary! Only authoritarian states (kings) stifle innovation and lose wars because of it!
Exactly πππ
It is not the first battle between a sports star and an association. Both are dependent on each other. Truls’ advertising value probably exceeds that of the association, yet he would never have become a star without the association. Both Truls and the association want to share the advertising revenue, and it’s like between an employee and an employer, you can’t run a competing business just because you’ve come up with a brilliant idea that you want to launch privately while still working there.
Now I might be going a bit off topic in your off-topic post.
There was some artist who performed during the Super Bowl halftime show, don’t know who he was but looked like one of those gangster rappers. He almost didn’t get paid at all when he performed, the advertising value was considered so high that almost no payment was needed. Almost next year, Village People will probably have to pay to have Trump’s wish to hear YMCA during halftime, maybe it will be some other American Sven-Ingvar copy, Trump likes that kind of thing.
That was interesting, I didn’t know about the advertising value.
Donald Trump has “changed the global dialogue” about Ukraine in recent weeks. That’s according to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the summit in Ukraine on the third anniversary of the Russian invasion. He believes that the American president has now “created an opportunity.” – Now we must ensure that the foundations are right.
There is probably a lot going on under the surface right now that we do not see.
It’s so incredibly funny that Trump, in his attempts to help Putin, instead ends up hindering him π
Hello,
There seems to be some sensible people on the forum here.
There are two things that bother me where I would like to hear your opinions.
The first is if Ukraine now has such enormous amounts of rare earth metals.
How come then that no oligarch, whether Ukrainian or Russian, has already seized them?
It can hardly be that the findings were only known a year ago?
Or that extensive prospecting has been carried out along the front line in the midst of a raging war?
The second is that Budanov says he has full insight into the Russian security service.
If so, he should know if the Russians have any leverage on Trump?
It doesn’t have to be specifically the type of leverage, just that they have leverage.
It would have been a dereliction of duty if no one from the Ukrainian security service had tried to find out what kind of relationship Putin has with Trump, right?
Of course, it may be that Trump has completely lost his composure and judgment, that is of course an option.
Well, these are two things that really bother me.
Maybe the chafing is less irritating now? Krasnov is certainly ready to wash down the rare earth metals with bleach π
https://www.svt.se/nyheter/utrikes/experter-ukraina-har-inte-de-sallsynta-jordartsmetaller-som-namns
Buda probably knows (senses?) but he is probably looking for evidence and saving what he has? Such news needs to be delivered with timing in today’s noise, and Buda is a world champion at that (King?)
Then the question is, what is Trump up to?
Investing so much in chasing fool’s gold?
Wasn’t he a savvy real estate developer from New York?
He’s probably not that sharp, managed to bankrupt a casino after all, not to mention the poor financial situation his real estate company is said to have had at various times. Hence why he had to turn to Russia to get loans when banks in the USA refused to lend to him. No links, just things I’ve read in various places.
On the first one, my suspicion is that more people realize what will be needed in the future, and when the USA’s top priority is to counter the threat from China, rare earth metals are important, also important that China does not seize them.
On the second one, I can only say that I don’t know what Ukraine knows, and I’m not so sure that Russia has leverage over Trump. Ukraine chooses for themselves what they want to reveal and when. But we should also note that during Trump’s previous term, he did the following:
β’ Warned Germany about becoming dependent on Russian gas
β’ Killed around 300 Wagner soldiers in Syria
β’ Increased oil production to lower prices
β’ Imposed sanctions on Russia
β’ Increased American military presence in Europe
β’ Broke a nuclear disarmament agreement that he considered asymmetrical to the disadvantage of the USA
Agree with N Eklund. We don’t know much about Trump, but still know some things.
It’s probably important to see that there are other, entirely plausible, explanations for Trump’s behavior in the Ukraine issue, something we have discussed in the comments section on this page. (Even though most manage well with a fraction of the amount of words that have slipped out of the Analyst.)
New readers are recommended to read the comments from previous days. This comments section is really good.
Mining is a complicated story, and there are many resources that are not being mined today, for various reasons. This is also the case in Sweden, where it is mostly due to political reasons and complex permitting processes. From permit to active mine, it is often 10-15 years. Therefore, one wants to operate in regions with low political risk so that your entire investment doesn’t disappear overnight. Mining is expensive, and almost all mining projects end in an economic disaster. One must have a sufficient quantity and a high enough concentration of valuable metals for it to be profitable. This, of course, depends on market prices, and few things are as volatile as metal market prices. For example, the price of lithium is down 85% since 2022. To give an example, the world’s largest gold mining company, Newmont Mining, is not profitable, and the stock has declined despite the gold price rising from $1600 to $2900 per ounce. There are probably more than one reason why it is often said that one “mines” cryptocurrencies – both industries are full of scammers, high expectations, and big disappointments.
Welcome Anders, or today we say Willkommen to honor the Germans who can do more than have the whole family in the same pastel-colored tracksuits at the campsites in the summer π
No, there is already a discussion going on below about the fact that it is costly to break.
That is an interesting idea about UA and that they know what Trump is/has. They will probably drop the bomb, whatever it is, at the right time π
Was it only rare earth metals included in the proposal?
Wasn’t there also gas and oil?
Yes, that’s right when proposal version 2 came, it was about ports, oil infrastructure, and what else.
They doubled it well and threatened to triple it if Zelensky didn’t sign immediately – lovely methods.
Contemplating a possible Russian kompromat on Trump. What on earth could it be that is worse than
– poor economy, businesses that haven’t survived
– notorious infidelity
– hush money to a prostitute
– classified papers in the bathroom
– groping underage girls
– convicted of sexual assault which in any other state would have been rape
– incited the events of January 6th
– lied over 30 times a day during his first term as president
– encouraged bravery in his vice president
– daily racist and fascist elements
– connections with Musk
– refusal to accept election results and attempts at election fraud
– received Russian money
All of this and more is already on the table, so how would a kompromat that he wants to keep under wraps look like?
Welcome, well that’s why my guess is that it’s not compromising material that Putin has to control him.
A solid list the US president has, hard to keep up with everything but he has been working hard π
But isn’t it just as simple that they (of course) have all possible evidence that he is and has been a Russian asset/agent or equivalent since the 80s or whenever it started? Then one must surely say that he should be completely smoked out for everyone who is not owned by the Russians themselves?
I think that the USA, after all, could be quite tough on a long-time traitor to the country?

Could it be that Trump has been tricked into believing that Ukraine has all this in such large quantities that it’s worth mining? It could be false information from anyone who wants Trump to appear foolish and ignorant. But then the question is whether UA is playing along or simply not telling the whole truth: Yes, we have what you want, but not in the quantity you claim, you’re the one who made it up.
It would have been an epic trolling, but also very dangerous!
I believe UA has more insight than they are letting on, of course. They keep their cards close to their chest unlike Trump, which could also be a reason why they can stand up to Trump.
I have thought a lot and come to a conclusion about Putin’s leverage on Trump.
Sex and infidelity don’t affect the old man, so that’s probably not a valid point.
However, I believe that over time the Russians have covered up Trump’s bad deals, and/or secretly bought up Trump’s companies’ debts/loans.
If Trump doesn’t jump high enough, the trap will snap shut with double force.
His shortcomings as The Great Businessman will come to light,
besides
Trump will lose his properties and companies and become as poor as a church mouse.
And there the people stand, saying that the Emperor is naked! he has no clothes on at all.
That scares Trump more than anything else. I believe. He fights for his image…
That is probably close to the truth.
Exactly this, I believe, is the main track, possibly together with the theory I wrote about above (that evidence of him being and having been a Russian asset/agent for many years is a hook worth considering in itself).
Merz doesn’t need the Greens. One party dropped out so two is enough! It will be stable and Merz decides better than Γ len, I guess π
I think Zelenskyy’s message was clear!! Ukraine will not give up or make deals without clear conditions, rejecting extortion from the Trump administration, and it needs stronger Western military and economic support. Russia’s war machine is heavily dependent on North Korea, and Ukraine is accelerating domestic defense production to secure its future.
I appoint Zelenskyy as a Sensemaking “King” (Sensemaking is a good way to get a grip on reality in today’s constant noise)! Krasnov does not have that ability!
Yes, right now it looks like Unionen and SPD can form a government. If Pistorius enters instead of the rusty former steelworker, he and Merz at least agree on Ukraine ππ».
Alrajt, I guessed wildly as usual π²
Yes – he has clearly stated “we did not receive 500 billion USD, a total of 100 billion but only 30 billion in direct support. Biden was clear about the conditions and we will not give the USA 500 billion USD as Trump wants”.
Zelensky has now risen together with the EU, of course he has guarantees from us.
Finally, I have found the party!
Welcome!
Welcome to the party, it’s never boring here, I can promise you that, and Fridays are wild πβ

Yes, exactly, I immediately thought it was real. AI is just Trump’s attempt to dismiss it.

SvD: UN adopts resolution demanding Russian retreat
“The UN General Assembly has adopted a Ukrainian resolution demanding an immediate withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine.
Out of the General Assembly’s 193 member states, 93 voted in favor of the Ukrainian proposal, 18 against, and 65 abstained.”
Now things are happening – having full support from the UN obviously makes Trump’s and Putin’s scheming a bit more difficult.

Herregud, Zelensky basically says that his relationship with Trump is terrible π²
https://x.com/PolymarketIntel/status/1894078108375961629
Zelensky has strong internal support, recently manifested, which is the most important, and stands and has stood on his own in this war and has stood strong and fought hard against Putin’s bologna army. Then Zelensky has full and unanimous support, strong, from Europe, manifested by several of its leaders in Kyiv today. Trump was not there. No, the relationship is not at its best.
Copying in a response to MacMelmac that I made in the post about the loss.
I think Kvartal has had several interesting articles about the war in Ukraine.
In the article “How Europe can save Ukraine,” they link to https://www.ifw-kiel.de/topics/war-against-ukraine/ukraine-support-tracker/, which is interesting if you want to delve deeper into the support for Ukraine.
A reading tip is an article written by Stefan Hedlund, “The Guilt of American Political Scientists.” I believe the text can be listened to as an audio recording, free but with ads, if you don’t want to subscribe, look for Kvartal in your podcast player.
A quote from the article about Jake Sullivan:
“The most prominent is the veteran Jake Sullivan, whose career began under Barack Obama. He was involved in the appeasement policy towards Iran and the ‘reset’ of relations with Russia after its invasion of Georgia. As national security adviser under Joe Biden, he participated in the chaotic retreat of U.S. forces from Afghanistan and was instrumental in the American policy of escalation management, meaning Ukraine could not be allowed to defeat Russia.”
So now we know what tactic Biden used, “Escalation management.” How can Ukraine win the war without escalating first? I think it was Victor D. Hanson who described Biden’s tactic as bleeding Putin until he turns completely white (Putin, not Biden).
Furthermore, Hedlund writes that on the fifth of October 2023, Sullivan published an article in Foreign Affairs. He claims that the Middle East was calmer than it had been in a long time, thanks to Biden’s policy.
https://www.foreignaffairs.com/system/files/pdf/2023/FA_102_6_ND2023_Sullivan_print_edition_version.pdf
Two days later, it was the 7th of October…
hahaha, yeah, I remember that article by Sullivan and oh my god, he really had to eat his words there…
(maybe a lot of laughter was inappropriate in that context)
Thank you very much no1! Very promising if the German takes the lead!
