Ukraine daily update November 24, 2025

We have had a small emergency trip but are back home in Sweden and trying to scratch back the travel cost – hence the pause and appreciate the patience.

There was a note in the mailbox where the new neighbor humbly asked if we had seen her missing cat – I remember from last time we were home that all the neighbors complained about the cat’s constant visits to everyone’s flower beds, so maybe some resourceful pensioner has made a tough decision, and that is what Europe’s leaders also need to do now.

Hard not to comment on Trump’s absolute treason together with the USA even though some in Congress have now started calling a spade a spade. Anonymous has also promised to out someone, let’s hope it’s Trump 😀

So the peace plan with its 28 points is actually a ruse and not a peace plan, I will come back to this below but you can already stop using the word peace plan.

Then we can ignore the media’s “USA has misunderstood, Trump has been misled by Putin” – this is a ruse that Trump and the USA are part of and have acted very consciously around even though they misunderstood the first battery with instructions from the GRU.

This summer, the USA and Trump made a U-turn and Ukraine began full asymmetric warfare – Johan No.1 did cartwheels in the garden and we discussed that Ukraine probably felt free with the asymmetric warfare but that no one tried to stop them and that it was the first time in the whole war.

Ukraine also seemed positive and excited for a while, which then fit into the bigger picture, we reasoned that they were planning to bring down Russia with asymmetric warfare and then that the FSB recently revealed a plot against Putin so UA became less excited.

With the bad news coming from the USA’s attempts to deal with China, we guessed that the USA realized their fatal mistake and that Russia would never become their “your enemy’s enemy is your friend” against China but instead decided to do the only right thing.

USA “did what was right after trying everything else” as Churchill wisely said after reading the blog.

Because we are heading towards a global conflict and the Ukraine war is an urgent security issue for Europe, which is the USA’s most important ally.

Finally, Trump and the USA did as they always have done – waited too long but then sided with the right side and helped us help ourselves.

But that’s not the case at all – now we are back to the baseline of favoring and helping Russia at all costs to the detriment of Europe’s security, a low blow if I ever saw one.

McFaul also seemed to be influenced.

Before the joyful development this summer when Trump was at his worst, we discussed whether his task might be to lock the USA domestically – he seems to be well on his way to doing that anyway, whether it is planned or a consequence of all his more or less insane decisions.

It is also undeniable that the USA is now pandering to Russia and Putin as we now have Venezuela or Israel running simultaneously – clear double standards without the slightest shame.

We have also discussed the idea that the USA is trying to start a recession in Europe and then get us back under the Russian boot in a new cold war so we stay down and are forced to buy security at five times the price of the USA – their best years were during the Cold War.

I am quite disappointed in this but it is not the only thing that has happened if you have read the posts – this whole violent “coalition of the willing” and all the harsh words from our leaders with staring eyes died out completely even before Trump/USA made a U-turn (again) and that has worried me quite a bit for those of you who have read the posts.

In my latest post days before Trump (again) betrayed the free world, we discussed what the goal was and whether we in Europe were waiting for Ukraine to throw in the towel and accept a ceasefire. Stubb, who is a staunch UA supporter, said all the wrong things possible, but it echoes how the discussions go among us in Europe.

Unfortunately, the statements from Europe are not strong enough right now even though they can be interpreted in different ways – but that, if anything, is a politician’s specialty, to say things that can be interpreted differently.

https://kyivindependent.com/european-leaders-push-back-on-surprise-ukraine-peace-deal-affirm-support-for-kyiv

Zelensky has given a long speech where he does not engage in that, and the important thing is that he says that either Ukraine meets the USA halfway or they lose the USA as an ally, and further that he clearly and explicitly informs Europe that if we in Europe are not careful now, there is a high risk that we will end up in a mess.

When Zelensky speaks, the jungle is said to fall silent.

Ukraine has of course already stated that Russia intends to continue with us and we should also listen to that – not just Johan No.1 who says it.

Even our Chief of Defense says it, I think he has read johanno1.se, MXT said something about receiving dozens of emails about login not working from “Chief of Defense”.

But there is more, and this time Trump has really messed up.

Parts of the peace plan are evidently directly translated from the Russian language and therefore the English is a bit off.

Witkoff and Kushner misunderstood the instructions from GRU and what was supposed to be Putin’s initial negotiating position was perceived by them as the cunning agreement to force Ukraine to sign.

Marco Rubio was completely kept out along with Congress, and he has had a tough couple of days where he first denied all knowledge.

And then he asserted that everything was according to plan, still funny though 😀

And Driscoll came out hard against Ukraine and promised them catastrophic consequences if they did not “sign by Thursday” – my question is who gave Driscoll these instructions 🧐

Everything else can be denied but not what Driscoll

After that, Ukraine must have a new election where the GRU will fuel the conflict in the country, especially the betrayal debate, and the cohesive element is now gone because there is a ceasefire.

High risk of total chaos – I think everyone can see what the result of this will be.

And that corruption scandal that recently emerged came a bit too conveniently 🧐

As soon as Ukraine is chaotic enough, Russia will attack again, or try to politically destabilize the country.

A strategic deception that Ukraine is trying to handle as best they can right now.

So now we are at our “defining moment,” will we repeat 1939 – 1940 or will we do what is right.

The statements made are too weak, but Zelensky has met with our leaders, and we sincerely hope that we have been more explicit behind closed doors.

All comments on my proposals for a European war plan instead of a peace plan are that “Europe is doing everything right,” and they have been saying that for almost four years – that Europe has a brilliant plan and is doing everything right.

Ask them – how do you think the chaos and panic in Europe would have looked if Ukraine had given up in the midst of it all?

Would our plan then have been brilliant?

Because there will always be a risk, and the longer we in Europe do nothing, the greater that risk becomes, I guess not too many countries have survived this war.

The USA threatens our security – everyone understands it now, everyone.

First of all, Europe can be a bit tougher in words and simply go back to the last time we said that Ukraine should be helped to regain control of its entire country and confirm that we still stand behind that.

Then in action – send EVERYTHING now, Germany can start with Taurus and Sweden can transfer Gripen immediately.

Those of you who have read Johan No.1 know that Europe still has emergency stockpiles of everything, so send the latest combat vehicles, the latest Leopard, artillery, and start addressing the drone weapon issue.

There is an absolutely enormous arsenal in Europe, and Portugal, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, UK, or France do not need anything for national defense – send everything.

The cycles in drone weapon technology are six months, and Europe is already about 30% there, so put a lot of effort into that together with Ukraine.

Show in action that we stand with Ukraine.

Then we should somehow use the French Foreign Legion, which seems to be the only unit in Europe, apart from SOF, that our leaders dare to risk.

A clear indication would be, for example, to deploy it in the Baltics, specifically in the southeastern forests of Estonia now in December.

Germany should expedite the movement of its brigade to Lithuania and send it there now before Christmas.

Of course, immediately move more aircraft to Poland as a statement.

Europe must show the Ukrainian people that we unequivocally stand with them now, and we no longer have time for political maneuvering or our winning strategy of wait and see.

Doing absolutely nothing and calling it balanced, mature, and winning has simply reached its end – the politicians who now take their inflated salaries and have managed to do nothing until today will be remembered in history either as Chamberlain or Churchill, depending on the path they take.

The downside is enormous – as soon as the war is over and the debate of betrayal begins, 1 million unemployed soldiers with GRU assistance will turn against the EU and take what they believe is rightfully theirs. GRU will assist with drugs and weapons if needed.

So, a part of the plan is to get the EU to allow Ukraine to move freely among us.

My suggestion – loosen the grip on the USA and focus on Europe rising now and finding its inner Viking. The sword-wielding and mushroom-eating very large Viking.

First of all, we are major buyers of American debt now when everyone else is reducing purchases – why not reduce it to zero as a clear statement.

If RU attacks the Baltics, it will be Europe’s black swan, and we will be plunged into a financial crash, it is already circulating on #fintwitter – and we have written about it earlier here on johanno1.se.

So, we have nothing to lose – that blow will come sooner or later, and if we hold the reins ourselves, maybe the consequences will be less severe than if it comes from elsewhere, who knows.

Trade agreements and tariffs – now Canada has come to us, and we are f@king EU – we are a major player, so why should we follow the USA here when they CLEARLY want us to be subdued.

China, the USA, and Russia are not our friends.

We start now with Russia and solve that problem, and as a thank you, we get Ukraine’s unconditional loyalty, which we need.

Then we set some boundaries against China and the USA.

Except that Trump/USA’s turnaround was part of their evil plan, and I spun with joy that the USA realized its mistake, we have been right in the overall analysis.

That RU intends to test Article 5, that Ukraine is against the ropes, and that Europe must find its inner Viking, which they hopefully are now starting to do.

The fact that RU has held back reserves not intended for Ukraine is now being discussed more and more, and we brought this up already in January this year, I think many heads of state in Europe have now read Johan No.1.

The situation at the fronts is such that Ukraine is using its offensive strategic reserve to plug the gaps in critical areas, and it has been going okay so far.

According to the previous post, they might be able to keep going like this over time, but this is UA’s last reserve they are using now, and if it wears down, there is nothing behind it.

If we in Europe make the right decision now, this will end up as a good story, but if we continue to do nothing and call it superior and higher-standing strategy, it could end in disaster.

Europe has disappointed us for almost 4 years, but since it is our own security at stake, there is a chance that we will finally do the right thing.

For exactly four years now, the USA has shown that, just like the bank, they are not our friend, and now they have done the forbidden – they deceived us into thinking they would pull a Churchill as a strategic deception – in world history, you only do that once, no one fools Johan No.1 unpunished 😡

What no one is yet discussing is that Europe can oust Trump in the midterm elections quite easily with Ukraine’s help – the only reason Trump is allowed to continue is because we let him.

Perhaps it is necessary for the USA to be burned to understand who their friends are and then make a Churchill move and do the right thing after Trump has become a lame duck?

But Europe does not need the USA to solve the problem with the barbarian hordes from the east – we are more than strong enough to solve this together with Ukraine, but it requires some uncomfortable and tough decisions.

If anyone thinks Europe is safe, Israel has helped stop the great Christmas massacre in churches, probably to seriously ignite ethnic tensions in Europe – GRU behind it of course because no one believes that Hamas, which has been busy in Gaza, would have prepared a major operation in Europe completely on its own when it is the USA supporting Israel and Europe remaining passive.

The bombings of the Polish railway are also directly war-preparing because that is how heavy equipment is moved eastward in case of escalation.

Now is Europe’s “defining moment” and we hope that the right decisions are starting to be made so that Ukraine can become a part of us and Russia eats itself up behind deep minefields that will be our eastern border for the next 100 years.

There are some indications that Ukraine is probably planning offensive operations at a suitable front with some degree of panic – easy to see why and very sad that they need to sacrifice lives because our leaders have acute decision-making anxiety.

A major tactical victory at a suitable front could have a cooling effect on Trump and motivate Europe to find its inner Nordic Viking and devour the entire fly agaric.

Donald Tusk 🤣🤣🤣

    1. That the USA received the peace plan in Russian, translated it in Google, and then told Ukraine that it is Trump’s peace plan they must follow is not completely unimportant, right?

      Shows where the loyalties lie.

      1. I agree with the point, but the fundamental problem is that two bullies are negotiating over the head of the bullied.

Completely unreasonable, and it should just be laughed off and thrown into the nearest trash can. Why do the rest of us care about what these two negotiate?

Unfortunately, intel from the US is the most reasonable answer, it’s hard to run a sensible defense without keeping an eye on the opponent.

  1. Russian losses in the war in Ukraine 2025-11-24:
    • 1190 KIA
    • 3 Tanks
    • 5 AFVs
    • 41 Artillery systems
    • 431 UAVs
    • 84 Vehicles & Fuel tanks
  2. Seems to be a lot of deals that govern the whole shebang. Just sad that it’s personal deals that seem to be the number one priority, and not even the interests of the country. Sadness number two is that the one in charge of it all is not very successful in deals but mainly in acting as a front for money laundering and influence.

  3. A Johan No.1 classic was confirmed.

Ukraine and Europe are now called warmongers and Russia and Trump just want to save the children.

    1. Will be later than usual today. Have come to eat a lot of fly agaric with the great Viking.

Some thoughts so far. Thinking about Venezuela, Israel, and the Epstein files. But the first two do not contradict you. The peace agreement regarding the approval of Gaza in the Security Council required that both Russia and China did not veto. At the same time, Russia was clear in its support for Venezuela. One can see that there were interests that Trump was ready to negotiate and that may have set the tone for how they chose to pressure Ukraine.

And then we have the Epstein case that has ended up in the shadows of the media.

Another thing to consider that may have laid the groundwork for a new American negotiating offensive, but does not explain the draft’s anti-Ukraine design:

      • Pending sanctions that would soon/now/yesterday be voted on in Congress. Pressure in the form of secondary sanctions against buyers of oil like India.

      • That Ukraine put pressure on Russia by combating its war-making infrastructure, including with American ATACMs.

  4. Significant to strong pressure around Pokrovsk.

  5. Here is how the text looks after translation to English:

This is where Russia’s decisions are being shaped:

If Ukraine relies on itself and support from Europe, that proposal should be something to start from.

At the same time, I hope for a Ukrainian offensive straight into the occupied area with rapid advancement. And flamingos in a flock. That, together with Europe escalating with a no-fly zone and troops in the Baltics, would be a good backdrop for the negotiations.

Joint Statement. Meeting between the USA and Ukraine
    November 24, 2025 – 01:00

On November 23, 2025, representatives of the United States and Ukraine met in Geneva to discuss the American peace proposal. The negotiations were constructive, focused, and characterized by mutual respect, underscoring the common commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace.

Both sides considered the consultations to be very productive. The discussions showed significant progress in coordinating positions and establishing clear next steps. The parties confirmed that any future agreement must fully respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and ensure a sustainable and just peace. As a result of the negotiations, the parties drafted an updated and revised framework document for peace.

The Ukrainian delegation once again expressed its gratitude to the United States and especially to President Donald J. Trump personally for his unwavering commitment and tireless efforts to end the war and save lives.

  6. OFF-topic
Europe has at least listened to the blog regarding Africa:

When we launched Global Gateway for Africa, we aimed to invest €150 billion in the continent.

4 years on, we’re well on track to exceed that goal.

With 120 billion of investments for Africa. And more coming.

    For good, local jobs ↓

SPEECH November 24, 2025 Luanda 4 minutes read
Speech by President von der Leyen at the EU-AU Business Forum
    “Check against delivery”

    President Lourenço,

    Chair Youssouf,

    Ladies and gentlemen,

It is a pleasure to open this summit between Africa and Europe with our business forum, as companies are the lifeblood of our partnership. Your work is not just about business, trade, and investment flows between our continents. You provide people with livelihoods. You share expertise and technology across borders. You create the jobs of the future. And that is what today’s forum is about. Building stronger ties between our industries, our businesses, and our citizens.

Since our last summit in 2022, the global environment has become tougher, but the relationship between Africa and Europe has only grown closer. Europe is Africa’s largest trading partner. One-third of Africa’s total trade is with Europe. And we are Africa’s largest investor, with €240 billion in 2023 alone. But we want to achieve much more together. Because now is the time to invest in Africa – and to collaborate with Africa. This continent has everything it takes to create prosperity at home and shape the global economy of tomorrow. It has 60% of the world’s best solar resources – at a time when global demand for clean energy is increasing significantly. It has 30% of the world’s mineral reserves – resources that will drive the industries of the future. The opportunities are clear. But realizing them requires the right kind of investments. Investments that create value locally, rather than extract it. That strengthen industrial capacity, rather than create a dependence on imports. That promote local jobs, rather than outsource them. This is the partnership that Europe is proposing. A strong and mutually beneficial partnership. A partnership that helps communities and industries on both continents thrive.

At the heart of this investment agenda is the Global Gateway. When we launched it, we committed to investing €150 billion in Africa by 2027. Since then, we have mobilized investments of over €120 billion. So, we are well on our way to reaching our goal. Global Gateway is not just about large-scale public investments. Its strength lies in governments, banks, and companies from both continents pulling in the same direction. That is why we are doubling our efforts to collaborate with the private sector. I see several of our European companies here today that are already engaged in this work. We have listened to your ideas, and now we are taking action to strengthen your engagement.

For example, in October this year, we announced a new Global Gateway Investment Hub. This platform allows companies to present their own project ideas, mobilize support, and engage in implementation. This is a significant step forward and responds to a request that many of you have made. You have said: “Involve us from the beginning.” We have listened.

    Ladies and gentlemen,

Today, I want to highlight three more ways in which we are making it easier for companies to invest and grow in Africa. First, financing. Africa has all the resources needed for growth. Abundant natural resources and a young, dynamic, and talented population. What is needed now is capital for infrastructure, jobs, and innovation. Through Global Gateway, we are working to reduce risks, make financing affordable, and offer guarantees. In this way, we help investors finance projects in more challenging markets. Take digital connectivity, for example. High-speed internet reaches only 10% of Africans, and it is often too expensive. But increased digital access sets off a chain reaction. Companies grow faster. New and better jobs are created. Governments collect more in taxes. And investors get better returns. That is why Global Gateway focuses on mobilizing private investments in digital infrastructure. For example, we are now expanding our data cables to East and West Africa and installing the MEDUSA cable connecting Europe and North Africa. With investments like these, the impact of every euro is multiplied – and everyone benefits.

My second point is about entrepreneurs. Africa is a young, dynamic continent – with talent, creativity, and drive. The continent has some of the highest levels of entrepreneurship in the world. But most of these businesses fail within the first few years. As a female entrepreneur in South Africa put it: “It’s the lack of access. Access to infrastructure. Access to global markets. And of course, the lack of financing.” Through Global Gateway, we help fill these gaps. Our support includes seed capital. Training and mentorship. We connect young businesses with local value chains and regional markets. Because when entrepreneurs are equipped to scale up, they create better jobs, more significant investments, and more innovation.

    Ladies and gentlemen,

My third point concerns regional integration. When a startup grows, it needs room to expand. It needs supplies, investors, and talent. And it needs customers – new markets for expansion. When companies cannot sell or expand into neighboring countries, growth stops at the border. Costs rise, and innovation stalls. But when companies can expand in the region, integration becomes a growth engine. Local businesses grow larger. Value chains create new jobs. And ultimately, industries become strong enough to compete on the global stage. Europe knows this from experience. We see this with our internal market. That is why our union has supported the African Continental Free Trade Area from the start. And at this summit, we are increasing our support. The African Development Bank says that a real internal market could increase the continent’s income by $450 billion. This represents enormous opportunities for Africa and the world.

    Honored guests,

These are some of the actions we are taking together. But it is time to take our partnership even further and expand our business cooperation. We want to hear from you. Which sectors you want to focus on, what obstacles you face, and what opportunities you see ahead. Let us turn ambitions into action.

Thank you, and I wish you a successful forum.

  7. The US is no longer forcing Zelensky to sign the plan by Thursday, November 27: The States have abandoned strict deadlines, now they will be more flexible, and has offered Ukraine another document with security guarantees – three key points

    ▪️If Russia launches an offensive again, the US president will have the right to use American troops and intelligence;
    ▪️NATO, together with France, Britain, Germany, Poland and Finland, undertake to act synchronously with the US;
▪️The term of the guarantees is 10 years.

    (heroim_slava@x.com)

      1. Yes. Just recently, the USA wanted to hand over the leadership of NATO to Germany. Now they want NATO members to fall in line with the USA (act synchronously).

      2. Hmm, that’s one way to interpret it, but good that the deadline was extended after all. Apparently, not only Putin has that advantage, unless he was the one who requested the deadline extension first, of course.

This security guarantee could of course just be a bait, like when Russia continues the discussion and haggles away during the first session.

  8. Children killed by Russians in Ternopil.

On November 19, Russian terrorists attacked residential buildings in Ternopil, killing 34 people. Six more people are considered missing, including one child.

The six kids who will never become adults because Russia killed them:

    ◾️ 1.5-year-old Nazar and 6-year-old Kamila El Akhdar, killed along with their mother;
    ◾️ 4-year-old Davyd Dolyniak, killed along with his father;
    ◾️ 8-year-old Amelia Grześko, killed along with her mother, a Polish citizen;
    ◾️ 17-year-old Ruslan Bobyk, a college student;
    ◾️ 17-year-old Artem Maliuta, a college student;

Condolences to their families and loved ones.
Murderers and terrorists must be punished.

  9. Zelensky:

The crux of the entire diplomatic situation is that it was Russia, and only Russia, that started this war, and it is Russia, and only Russia, that has been refusing to end it throughout the full-scale invasion. From the very first minutes of February 24, Putin has been waging this war with complete disregard for how many of his own people he loses and how many of ours he kills.

Russian commanders are not merely inclined to act brutally – they receive explicit orders allowing them to kill however they please. That is why Russia’s war is so bloody, taking lives both on the front lines and in peaceful Ukrainian cities. That is why Russia not only kills adults but also abducts children and tries to re-educate them so that they will take part in the war once they grow up.

Russian commanders are now sending into assaults against Ukrainian positions those who were still in elementary school in 2014, when Crimea was occupied and Russia’s hybrid aggression against Ukraine began. This is a long war, and the main thing Russia is trying to do is to preserve its ability to wage it even longer, and not only against Ukraine. That is why we appreciate so deeply that so many forces and leaders are working for peace right now.

Ukraine is grateful to the United States, to every American heart, and personally to President Trump for the assistance that – starting with the Javelins – has been saving Ukrainian lives. We thank everyone in Europe, in the G7, and in the G20 who is helping us defend life. It is important to preserve the support.

It is important not to forget the main goal – to stop Russia’s war and prevent it from ever igniting again. And to achieve that, peace must be dignified. In just this one year alone, Putin has already sent hundreds of thousands of his own people to their deaths in order to occupy one percent or several percent of Ukrainian territory. And this is what Russia is doing – a country that already has more internationally recognized territory than any other state in the world. This nature of the war, and Russia’s attempts to prolong it, show that for them this is not about territory or about how one neighbor or another behaves toward Russia, but about Russia’s “right to wage war,” its “right to subjugate” others, and a fundamental absence of security.

That is why we work so carefully on every point, on every step toward peace. Everything must work out the right way – so that this war is truly ended and so that it does not happen again. Thank you to everyone who is helping! Thank you, America! Thank you, Europe! I am proud of our people. Glory to Ukraine!

      1. But he at least repeats the truth about Russia’s war, and aligns himself with Trump. The question is whether it outweighs the lies and flattery from the Russian side. Unfortunately, I don’t think so.

  10. 🚨 BREAKING: Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) says it’s time for the United States to LEAVE NATO.

“The EU [Russia peace plan] plan is crazy, suicidal, escalatory—in a way that could trigger WWIII.”

“It’s time to get out of this mess. It’s time to leave NATO.”

Lee made the comments in response the EU’s counter peace plan for the US, Russia and Ukraine.

It holds that the US MUST basically give NATO-style protections for Ukraine from invasion – basically meaning we could be instantly dragging into WW3 very easily.

    https://x.com/ericldaugh/status/1992720413152219141?s=46

    1. If a third world war occurs, it will be because the USA retreats and leaves a power vacuum, and then the USA is unlikely to escape either. The USA’s role as a global policeman will decrease as its economic power diminishes, but if they retreat uncontrollably as it seems Trump wants to do, it could escalate quickly.

  11. A note was lying in the mailbox where the new neighbor humbly asked if we had seen her missing cat – I remember from the last time we were home that all the neighbors complained about the cat’s constant visits to everyone’s flowerbeds, so maybe some resourceful pensioner has made a tough decision

  12. In our counterproposal.

why do we say what the USA should do?

why not what we ourselves should do and leave the USA out of it?

Europe can TOGETHER with Ukraine (to some extent) easily win this war.

    1. Good point, As the USA has behaved recently, they have probably disqualified themselves from being allowed to participate in concluding it.

      1. Hm, more than 600k from the US/Russia at least, but just setting a limit is to follow Russia’s path. Just limiting Ukraine’s army is the last thing they should agree to..

  13. How often do security guarantees actually mean something? Let’s start with the Budapest Memorandum. From Wikipedia:
“Originally, the agreement was signed by three nuclear powers: Russia, the United Kingdom, and the USA.

The countries that signed the agreement pledged security assurances when Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine joined the Non-Proliferation Treaty. The assurances included, among other things, that the nuclear powers would not use force against or threaten the territorial integrity or political independence of Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Belarus.”

    Then we have Srebrenica,
and the refugee camps in Beirut. From Wikipedia regarding the latter:
“By 1 September, the PLO fighters had been evacuated from Beirut under the supervision of the Multinational Force. The evacuation was conditional on the continued presence of the Multinational Force in Lebanon (MNF) to provide security for the Palestinian refugee community in Lebanon.” Everyone probably knows how it ended.

    Others can surely add more.

In short: You cannot rely on someone else to protect you. Your only guarantee lies in whether you can protect yourself. How can Ukrainians trust that someone else will protect them the next time Russia violates an agreement? If not now, then why next time?

    1. It is up to Europe to resist and see what the end result will be.

Ukraine cannot stand alone any longer.

besides, the words are tricky – Trump can support IF HE WANTS and Europe must not do more than the USA.

So it seems to be the writing

    1. Ivar Vidfamne is said to have come from my home region. Well, he was a Scanian, I am almost a Scanian. Mentioned in several Icelandic sagas but above all in “The Long Ships” by Frans G. Bengtsson. However, it was not Ivar who claimed that “where the municipality of Hässleholm ends, Asia begins.” It was a modern Scanian Viking named Hans Ostelius.

  14. All in all – not sent money, corruption scandal, this agreement and general Russian influence + its offensive aims to stir up unrest internally in Ukraine

so far Europe has not impressed, but it is not over until the week is over it seems.

  15. Regarding European import of Russian oil. The vast majority of such imports are accounted for by Hungary and Slovakia. A not insignificant amount is also imported by the Netherlands. They should stop doing that. A smaller amount comes from Croatia.

But this is not the whole truth, some oil products come in via India. Mainly, it is Italy, France, and Spain that import from there. But actually, it’s not that much. For example, Italy imported barely 200,000 tons in July from India. Assuming that this originates from Russia and multiplying by 6 (barrels per ton) and dividing by 31, it averages out to 38,000 barrels per day. Not that much considering that Russia exports about 7.5 million barrels (oil + prod) per day. This then corresponds to 0.5 percent of Russia’s exports.

If we add up the entire EU’s (excluding Hungary and Slovakia) import (oil plus prod) from India and Russia, I estimate it to be around 860,000 tons in July. Almost exactly the same amount imported to Hungary and Slovakia.

Using the same calculation as before, with 860k per month, it corresponds to 166k per day or 2 percent of Russia’s exports. I hope I haven’t made a mistake (I should have downloaded it to Excel and calculated there, but my computer is slow so it would have taken some time. If someone thinks it’s important, I will do it).

Of course, it’s not good to import Russian oil via India. But it’s also difficult to know exactly where imported products originate from. The EU should demand origin labeling, aren’t there such requirements for food? Or should they be introduced?

    Origin data comes from Eurostat.

It would be interesting if Trump could force all buyers of Russian oil to abstain. But that won’t happen. Just a lot of talk.

    1. So it’s probably China and so far (?) India that account for the majority of the import of Russian oil/hydrocarbons. 98%? If India stops, China will be left with the next 100%.

    2. I hope I haven’t created any misunderstanding here. So for clarity. Data from Eurostat indicates what Europe imports from India. It doesn’t say anything about where India sources this oil from or anything about India’s imports.

    1. Not Mertz who has been for this.

🇩🇪 German Chancellor rejects the idea of bringing Russia back into the G7 — even if it’s written into Trump’s “peace plan”

Friedrich Merz has poured cold water on one of the most controversial points of Donald Trump’s proposed “peace plan.” Commenting on the idea of readmitting Russia to the G7, the Chancellor was blunt: Europe is not on board.

“Right now, I don’t see any willingness among the six other G7 members — apart from the United States — to bring Russia back into the group,” Merz said.

Now it begins, completely according to the plan that Johan I has already highlighted. Ukraine is to be portrayed as a warmonger from Washington.

Russian President Putin is reported to have, in a conversation with Turkish President Erdogan, essentially approved “Trump’s peace plan” as a “basis for a final peaceful solution” to the war. Putin argues that it is in line with the outcome of the meeting with Trump in Alaska earlier this year.

    1. Mm, it was important to be the first with a proposal that Ukraine or Europe cannot approve, then they can blame them for the war not ending.

  18. A note was left in the mailbox where the new neighbor humbly asked if we had seen her missing cat – I remember from last time we were home that all the neighbors complained about the cat’s constant visits to everyone’s flower beds, so some resourceful pensioner must have made a tough decision perhaps.

A coincidence that Den Gamle showed up on a certain forum, at the same time Johan came home? And the cat disappeared? “Pensioner”?

When Johan let the cat in, Den Gamle took the opportunity to sneak in and immediately found Johan’s computer 🤔🧐 The cat started wreaking havoc and the rest is history.
