There is preliminary information that Ukraine has hit both the oil refinery and a transformer station during the night’s attacks on the city. Article at Kyiv Independent can be found here and here is a video.
Russians deploy cavalry
The war in Ukraine has taken a toll on the Russians’ supply of tanks and other armor, but lately we have seen increased losses again. Whether they have been saving them for a long time and now feel they have enough again, or if they simply feel desperate to achieve greater successes before the peace talks is difficult to know. Regardless, it seems that more and more images and videos are emerging showing that the Russians are increasingly deploying cavalry, as we see more and more videos of them using horses in the war in Ukraine. We have seen it before, as well as donkeys, but previously it mostly seemed to be about a way to transport equipment, etc., to the front with the soldiers now riding on them.
Here is one of many videos. Poor innocent horses.
Russian losses in Ukraine
- 1200 KWIA
- 5 Tanks
- 8 AFVs
- 15 Artillery systems
- 2 MLRS
- 688 UAVs
- 29 Cruise missiles
- 166 Vehicles & fuel tanks

Russian activities
Nothing particularly stands out except for the suicide drones, which are now at a high level, the third highest in the war so far.
- 160 battles
- 39 airstrikes (involving 41 robots)
- 101 KAB
- 3,540 grenades (including 66 from MLRS)
- 6,824 suicide drones

Speaking of horses. The normal thing is that a horse pulls a carriage. But not always. There was a war in a Central American country. It was my birthday and I wasn’t expecting any gifts, so I was surprised when my colleagues showed up with a living horse. Not a fiery Arabian steed, but still a horse. It was skinny, one-eyed, deaf, and terrified by the horrors of war. No one slaughters a horse just for its skeleton. Otherwise, he would have been eaten. Since we had a specific port as our base port at that time, he was placed in a coal yard at the port when we made our trips. When we were in our “home port,” he was moored at the gangway. He was fed with both bread and vegetables by the sailors, so he lived considerably better than people on land.
Due to his one-eyed condition, he had a somewhat peculiar way of walking. He walked diagonally. One had to expect a certain deviation when riding out, but he always found his way home.
One day, I tied him to the buffer of a freight car that had been standing there for weeks. I didn’t expect that a switch engine would come and pick it up that very night. The horse, with its single horsepower, of course couldn’t resist the locomotive’s much greater strength. So he had to go along. This was the first time in the horse’s life that he was pulled by a carriage, and he faced a mystery. He was used to pulling carriages – not the other way around.
Before he had finished contemplating, he was rudely interrupted in his thoughts as the locomotive abruptly braked just as he had reached a gallop. In doing so, he hit his head on the buffer and collapsed to the ground, seemingly lifeless. A sad fate for a horse that had become quite fat over time. But it contributed to feeding many railway workers’ families.
A beautiful fur coat was sewn from his skin. 🤔😉

Poor thing!
The only horse I can think of that I would wish such a terrible fate upon is probably Lavrov.
Sounds good, if it’s true and the damages are extensive, the refinery is unlikely to produce anything for several months.
“Sizran, locals write that at the Sizran Oil Refinery, the impact hit the ELOU-AVT-5 installation, which is where the firefighters in the video above were heading. ELOU-AVT-5 is a comprehensive oil refining unit at an oil refinery (NPP), which includes an ELOU block (electrodessalination and dewatering) and AVT sections (atmospheric and vacuum distillation), designed for the preparation of crude oil, its desalination, and separation into various fractions (gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, oil fractions, and pitch) before further deep processing.”

Ivashov has dared to criticize Putin for a long time, but his criticism is not about him thinking that Putin, for example, is evil for attacking Ukraine, but rather that he is a weak leader who should be replaced by someone better and more competent.
Ivashov is a patriot and strongly nationalist and has himself tried to be elected as president.
That he dares to express such harsh criticism as he does is good, others may perhaps open their eyes to how bad things really are in Russia and may dare to turn against Putin in turn.
It’s a bit strange that he hasn’t fallen out of a window. I guess he may have strong contacts with active military leaders that Putin doesn’t dare to upset. Otherwise, he has no other real power.
“GENERAL LEONID IVASHOV STRONGLY CRITICIZES THE RUSSIAN LEADERSHIP The well-known Russian general, General Leonid Ivashov, has sharply criticized the Russian leadership and assessed the 1,400 days of the “special military operation” as follows:
– “Before the start of the ‘special military operation,’ I issued a warning. And the past four years have proven the correctness and seriousness of those assessments.”
– “We have achieved no success at the tactical-operational level, and at the strategic level we have failed on ALL fronts.”
– “All industrial sectors have been destroyed.”
– “Science is in critical condition, and education has completely collapsed.”
– “The judicial system is deeply corrupt. All judges are appointed by the president… I repeat, 98% of major corruption crimes are linked to members of the United Russia party.”
– “Rising prices are an alarming sign; the Russian people are becoming poorer and poorer.”
– “Healthcare is in ruins. All regions are cutting healthcare spending.”
– “Food quality is getting worse; palm oil is everywhere; food in Russia is becoming toxic.”
– “The only area in which Russia ‘leads’ the world is population trends. We are the leading nation in DISAPPEARANCE. Even without war—the war only accelerates the rapid decline in the number of men.”
“Our leaders boast that no one has weapons like ours.” It would be more accurate to say that nowhere in the military sphere is there as much corruption as in our country.
– “The very fact that we are diplomatically isolated, while permanent members of the UN Security Council issue statements supporting Ukraine, is a huge failure We are left only with allies like North Korea and Belarus, but they cannot help us—they can only drain our finances, and our finances are running out…”
– “I have worked with the Chinese for many years, but China is not our ally; that is a fabrication and Kremlin propaganda.”
– “Putin’s statements on the program ‘Direct Line’ are complete nonsense. Everything looks good on the screen, but wherever you look, you see failure. Putin is responsible for everything. He lives in his own world, surrounded by an imposed cult of personality.” But due to his own limitations, he failed to cope with the situation. Therefore, all areas—from the economy to the ‘special military operation’—have failed.
– “The strategic failure (in the war with Ukraine) could very well lead to the disintegration of Russia”
In 2022, General Leonid Ivashov publicly opposed military action in Ukraine and urged Putin not to take this catastrophic step. “This war will threaten the very existence of Russia,” Leonid Ivashov wrote at the time.
Leonid Grigoryevich Ivashov (Russian: Леонид Григорьевич Ивашов; born 31 August 1943) is a Russian military and public official. He is a former President of the Academy for Geopolitical Problems and a retired colonel general.”

Holy shit!
Has a Russian said this and still alive!?
Really interesting.
I have read a bit more about him, apparently he has no direct followers or any organization behind him, he is also quite old. Probably they don’t see him as a threat (like Navalny, who managed to gather several million followers).
They probably choose to ignore him and at the same time make him appear irrelevant.
Too much risk of upsetting old veterans, perhaps even active military leaders and other arch-nationalists by removing him.
Yet it is still surprising that he dares to express such harsh criticism. Maybe this is actually what will eventually lead to him falling out of a window.
Interesting indeed, he must have a certain respect within the military to be able to speak the truth in that way. The same goes for the war criminal Girkin, who even though he is in prison can criticize Putin and survive for as long as he has.
It’s probably positive that people in high positions can come forward and speak the truth, it may encourage others who know the truth to speak out against the lies coming from Putin’s camp.

Zelensky has arrived in the US. “Good evening, Florida,” Ukraine’s deputy FM Serhiy Kyslytsya posted as the delegation landed. The Zelensky-Trump meeting has been moved up and will now take place at 20:00 Kyiv time.
Hmm, we’ll see what Trump comes up with – don’t like it.
The best way it ends with nothing, the worst Trump sours and humiliates Zelenskyy and worsens the situation for Ukraine in various ways. Withdrawing support in the form of money is unlikely to have any significance because it is already so minimal, but he can certainly throw other spanners in the works.
Instead, if he were to turn to Putin and try to pressure him, I no longer have even in the margin on the back of the map.
Yes, it’s a bit nerve-wracking.
The sickest thing of all is that the USA could possibly have ended the war if they had instead doubled their support to Ukraine, imposed tough sanctions on Russia and those who choose to do business with them, and otherwise done everything to help Ukraine kick out the Russians.
Of course, this also applies to Biden’s time, but now under Trump, the situation for Ukraine has been greatly improved for almost a year.
The only thing that has happened is that they have reached a meaningless agreement with Ukraine regarding natural resources, which Trump portrayed as leading to peace because Russia would not dare to bomb American interests. It was shortly after that when Russia bombed an American company in Ukraine.
Russia also humiliates the USA, yet Trump does everything he can for Putin.
I fear the worst. Trump’s motivation is probably to get his hands on as many of Ukraine’s natural resources as possible. There, I think Putin promises better, because he doesn’t need to stick to the truth at this stage but can bribe Trump with both the Ukrainian natural resources Putin plans to take, as well as Russian natural resources, etc. For Zelensky, it’s different.
What could save Zelensky is that even Trump has started to realize that Putin is just lying and misleading. Witkoff doesn’t know it yet, but Rubio does, and I think he has probably had some influence on Trump regarding Russia, otherwise, I don’t think he would have stayed.

Things are probably going downhill for Russia as they have to rely on asylum-seeking foreigners as cannon fodder. I don’t understand why anyone would want to move to that country at all, they must have really lived through hell before, or be a bit crazy.
Putin probably does everything to avoid mobilizing in Moscow and St. Petersburg, if he starts picking up the youth from there, there will be protests he can’t handle.

🚂 Freight train derails near Kiziterinka station in Rostov region A total of 25 trains are delayed for up to 4 hours on the Bataysk-Rostov railway section.
On the 15th of December, it was decided in the USA on the 900 billion USD NDAA defense policy bill! They went against #fcktrmp!
Made me Google about it and think!
The EU needs a similar “NDAA logic” for defense, otherwise it will be defense theater. (Although we should do it better)
In the USA, there is this annual ritual that practically keeps the entire Western security order functioning: NDAA is a framework law that sets funding, priorities, and mandates for defense. It’s not perfect. But it’s stable, recurring, and delivery-driven.
In the EU, we often have the opposite:
many initiatives, many conferences, many strategic documents, but too little order.
And without order, three things happen:
1) Speed is lost
2) When decision-making paths become too long and responsibilities blurred, threats get ahead.
3) Standardization is lacking
We have too many variations of the same thing: systems, spare parts, training, agreements. It creates expensive maintenance and low endurance if we are going to war!
Operational capability becomes uneven
Some countries are strong, others have gaps, but the system that should bind everything together becomes too weak.
What the EU can actually excel in the world at is not “becoming NATO,” right?
The EU can be the backbone of endurance, behind the front line in Ukraine with
common minimum requirements per country (air defense, ammunition, cyber, logistics, mobilization) standardization that can actually be screwed and used for
multi-year industrial orders that then create volume and delivery security, protection of supply chains against infiltration and sabotage, civil preparedness integrated with military capability
This is not glamorous. It’s old proven knowledge:
Stable governance + follow-up + learning = freedom of action.
Control does not create quality, however, quality creates control, I usually say! And in security policy, it means that endurance creates deterrence.
Therefore, the EU needs a simple similar principle: a recurring, binding control flow that secures and links funds to delivery, every year.
A European “NDAA logic.”
Otherwise, we risk standing there with beautiful facades and discovering too late that the foundation is not holding.
Those were my thoughts!!
And how has the EU been created from the remnants of the Second World War and recent war experiences without this principle in place? Has one completely relied on NATO?
It sure does! Everyone except Finland and now Poland?
Well, it was somewhat so that the USA took over the defense of Europe during the Cold War to avoid the European countries from jumping at each other again. The USA wanted a strong and democratic Europe that they could control. Sweden had not been destroyed, and stood strong after WW2, Finland, due to its situation with the war against the USSR, which was then allied with the USA, did not have the opportunity to receive either Marshall aid or military aid, so we had to take care of ourselves during the Cold War and build up a strong army, and we knew that even after the fall of the Soviet Union, there is no such thing as eternal peace with Russia as a neighbor.
Something like that 👍👍
The Russian influence is, of course, working tirelessly, and in the end, even I caught sight of it. I followed two nice young people on YouTube who travel around the world and tell about their experiences. She is Russian, he is British – who also speaks Russian. (!) After many well-produced episodes, they now have a large number of followers, and now the noose is tightening. According to their information, most countries are crap, not least his England. But Russia, in particular, occupies a positive position, with high-gloss images of business districts and glass facades but none of muddy roads, toothlessness, and outhouses. And now, after visiting the whole world, they have decided to move to – Russia. Some countries they are still eager to visit are Cuba and Venezuela. How do you stop the misery?
Travel with the Trans-Siberian Railway and ask these people to see how the Russians live outside the big cities. No glossy glass facades there. The homes are dilapidated shacks. This is mixed with abandoned industrial properties that have become ruins. There they can go and enjoy life.
Putin called Trump just before his meeting with Zelensky again and probably Witkoff has coached him, again, so Zelensky gets the cold shoulder in everything.
Let’s hope that Europe has learned the lesson and that we now stand behind Zelensky as he leaves – we must.
Putin is also blatantly lying about RU’s successes.
Well, okay, he has probably raised the stakes (the ante).
Ukraine seems to have good control at the borders now, I think it looks good.
No one met Zelensky when he landed in Florida, no one.
His own ambassador got to meet him.
Thank you, dear God, for a wet, warm, and windy Christmas – the electricity price is manageable.
Snow is for capitalists and shareholders.
