Ukraine has once again attacked an oil depot in Luhansk

Ukraine attacked an oil depot in Luhansk which started burning violently and is still burning this morning. Read more at Kyiv Independent

Possibly they also hit the refinery in Saratov, but so far I have only seen one post about it. We’ll see if there will be more information about it or not.

  1. “❗️A terrorist attack took place in the center of 🇺🇦Lviv: one police officer was killed, 24 law enforcement officers were injured The perpetrators fabricated a report of a store robbery and called the 102 police emergency line.”

“One police officer has been killed and 15 people have been injured in several explosions in Lviv in western Ukraine during the night, according to AFP.

The explosions occurred shortly after midnight, local time, and are being investigated as a terrorist attack, according to the city’s prosecutor’s office.

Police were called to the scene after a suspected break-in. Shortly after the first patrol arrived, the first explosion occurred. When a second patrol arrived, another explosion occurred.

“This is definitely a terrorist attack. We have 15 people injured, some of them seriously,” Mayor Andrij Sadovyji wrote in a statement.

    No suspects have been arrested.”

  2. ⚡️Update: Explosions rock Ukraine’s capital as Russia launches ballistic missiles, injuring 2 in Kyiv Oblast. Several rounds of explosions were reported in Kyiv overnight on Feb. 22, leaving one person and a child injured in nearby suburbs as Russia launched ballistic missiles at Ukraine.

  3. “❗️Ryssland träffade en amerikansk verksamhet i Ukraina – en missil träffade en Mondelez-fabrik. Detta är en av de första stora amerikanska investerarna i den ukrainska ekonomin. Detta rapporterades av utrikesministern, Andriy Sybiha.”

  4. Johan No.1 had a comment on this yesterday, I think it deserves to be repeated.
Such poor security simply cannot be allowed. Now he shut down the facility, but he could just as easily have contaminated the drinking water and infected 140,000 residents.

If it looks the same in more places (and it probably does), it is far too easy to paralyze large parts of society. Among the residents, you can also find employees in the police, healthcare, emergency services, and the military, so while you can easily overwhelm the healthcare system, you can also disable the parts of society needed in a crisis.

“On January 30, a man entered the Hässlö water treatment plant in Västerås and shut down the entire facility. The 30-year-old man, who is charged with sabotage, has gang connections, according to DN. He has been convicted, among other things, of handling drugs for the criminal network Death Squad in 2019.

The man entered the area through an unlocked gate and then through a door, which was also unlocked. Once inside, he managed to cut off the power to the water treatment plant – which supplies water to 140,000 residents.

The sabotage has raised questions about security, as water supply is a critical part of Swedish national defense.

    – Functional water supply is absolutely crucial. Without water, we cannot defend our country, says Pär Dalhielm, CEO of the industry organization Swedish Water to DN.”

I have an idea about nocturnal missions.

What would it mean to deploy a lot of decoys with the same heat signature as a Special Operations Forces (SOF) over large areas? Preferably ones that move.
Simple small ones that deceive thermal cameras at night.

At the same time, advance with a lot of soldiers behind enemy lines.

  6. 205 had an interesting post yesterday at 20.25 about the Finnish/Ugric ethnic group Udmurts. While the Ugric part relatively quickly found their way to present-day Hungary, several Finnish ethnic groups settled in present-day Russia. From the Kola Peninsula down to Belarus. I won’t bore you with this, but if you’re interested, check out “The foundation of the Russian Empire by the Scandinavians.”
Today’s “Russians” are a mix of Finns/Scandinavians and some Slavic groups. The genetic mix may not have turned out so well. Another genetic mix that wasn’t so peaceful is Celts/Scandinavians. The Hebrides, Orkney, and Shetland, plus large parts of Scotland/England come to mind first. General Custer descended from Orkney. Even though he reluctantly admired the Plains Indians (the world’s best cavalry), he was one of history’s worst Indian killers. “Custer’s Last Stand” by Tommy Eriksson/Bonniers.
As you can see, Scandinavians are everywhere when there’s war. The world should be grateful that Scandinavians are few and divided into 5 kingdoms. If Sweden had been a great power, we would have been worse than Russia is today. Just think about how the Swedishization of the Scanian provinces took place. Hitler studied this carefully.

    1. The question is whether we have calmed down over time or if we have actually become like Russia.

But you are right that we were not any nice guys in the past.

      1. It can probably not be considered as a mitigating circumstance. Although the slavery of the Viking Age was probably not racist. Any group, tribe, and so on that could not defend themselves could be enslaved.

Peter Englund writes in DN (for subscribers): https://www.dn.se/kultur/peter-englund-det-ryska-hamrandet-fortsatter-men-tiden-och-siffrorna-star-inte-pa-deras-sida/

A lot of space is devoted to explaining how the war is economically unsustainable for Russia, but I believe one quote will be especially appreciated here:

“So Putin continues. Like all tyrants, terrified of anything resembling a military defeat, to end his days hanging upside down with a lover at a gas station in the suburbs.”

  8. Peter Englund’s “Poltava” is a must-read in these times. But there is another book that may have been overlooked, namely “Tyrannens tid. Om Sverige under Karl XII” (The Tyrant’s Time: About Sweden under Charles XII). Written by Magnus Västerbro/Bonniers.
Here you can read about how the people in Sweden/Finland were impoverished due to the king’s many wars. How the farms were destroyed when all the men were sent off to war. How close Sweden was to being completely wiped out as a nation in 1718. A book worth reading.

    1. Well, it was probably close with Sweden/Finland back then. I am surprised that Russia did not occupy the Finnish half of the realm. The Emperor had given orders for an area 100km east of Finland’s west coast to be cleared of people, to protect against the Swedes.

The Russians, with their Cossacks, proceeded thoroughly, and many householders were hanged in the rafters and many peasant women were dragged through the bake oven to make them reveal where they had hidden any valuables.

My hometown on the west coast was completely emptied during the great unrest, the inhabitants fled to the Swedish side. Churches and rectories were burned, so those who do genealogical research cannot trace back further than around 1715-20.

When they returned from their exile in the 1720s, many villages were burned, or others had moved in.

Russia now does not differ significantly from Russia back then, but Sweden learned the hard way that War does not pay off. Apparently, Russia has not lost enough yet for them to learn.

  9. Iran signed a weapon agreement with Russia worth over five billion Swedish kronor in December. This is shown by leaked Russian documents and sources that Financial Times has access to. According to the agreement, Russia is to deliver 500 portable, shoulder-fired Verba air defense systems and 2,500 9M336 missiles to Iran over the next three years. Verba is one of Russia’s most modern air defense weapons. Its infrared-guided missiles can shoot down cruise missiles, low-flying planes, and drones.

  10. 🇭🇺‼️🇺🇦 Orbán said there are no threats to his country’s energy security due to the suspension of oil supplies through the Druzhba pipeline, but announced 3 “countermeasures” against Ukraine.

▪️Hungary will not resume diesel exports to Ukraine until oil transit through Ukrainian territory is restored.

▪️Budapest will also refuse to approve the allocation of a military loan to Ukraine that was previously agreed in Brussels.
▪️In addition, Hungary will block the 20th package of EU sanctions against Russia.

  11. 🥔 The Belarusian company “Gomeltransneft “Druzhba”” lost 82% of its pumping volumes due to the Russian attack on “Druzhba” pipeline In February, the company lost more than 4/5 of its profit due to the actions of its swamp brothers.

At the beginning of 2022, the company was already forced to reduce pumping volumes, which led to the conservation of part of the equipment and a reduction in personnel salaries.

  12. 🇺🇦Ukrainian border guards, using strike drones, successfully engaged the 🇷🇺enemy in the Kursk direction and northern Slobozhanshchyna: 4 vehicles destroyed, 9 personnel shelters, 2 communication antennas, one field ammunition depot, a Murom-M observation station, as well as several Russian UAVs hidden in the trees.

  13. “Ukraine war latest: Ukraine hits Russian planes, ships in Crimea, artillery in major strikes on occupied territories

    • Ukraine hits Russian planes, ships in Crimea, artillery in major strikes on occupied territories
    • Ukraine confirms Flamingo strike on key Russian ballistic missile factory
    • Russia hits American sweets factory with missile in northeastern Ukraine
    • Explosions rock Ukraine’s capital and outskirts as Russia launches mass missile attack, killing 1, injuring 17

  14. “Russian companies are massively reducing investments, freezing projects, and preparing to lay off employees.

Last year, only 19% of companies continued to invest as usual. Every third (33%) significantly reduced their investments, the same number reduced them slightly, and 15% completely froze all projects, according to the results of a survey by the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

Many city-forming factories, as well as enterprises in monotowns, have already switched employees to part-time work, and in the second half of 2026, they will be forced to start layoffs, noted RSPP Vice President Alexander Murichev. “The only visible prospect for many enterprises today is reducing production, employees, and in the most critical situations, unfortunately, bankruptcy,” he said.”

“The number of Swedes living in poverty has skyrocketed from 150,000 to 408,000 since 2021, according to the way Statistics Sweden measures it. When it comes to the explanation, opinions differ.

Tapio Salonen, professor of social work at Malmö University, argues that it is due to, for example, housing benefits and unemployment benefits not being raised in line with the general increase in prices.

On the other hand, Timbro’s chief economist Fredrik Kopsch argues that inflation in itself is the whole explanation.

According to the survey, poverty is defined as not being able to afford a certain standard of living, which is defined based on a list of specific cost items.”
