Exactly, that’s what I think it was.
Then Hungary and Serbia had directly allied with Russia and a couple of other countries had fallen politically down there and Russia had redirected towards Poland and the Baltics.
NATO is only effective if they CAN defend themselves and if the US had been fully occupied in Asia and Russia hadn’t run an Afghan-style wandering camp to the army, maybe there wouldn’t have been much help for the Baltics and Poland.
Now it ended already in the potato fields in Ukraine but the plan was quite ambitious, there were also other countries sitting on the fence waiting for a new world order.
I have come to accept that the free West compromises for too long and can appear weak but when it rises, it’s over, many dictators throughout history have experienced that.

I think it’s really cheating (hard to find a better word) that the Russians can just retreat a few meters north of their border to be almost untouchable. Yes, Ukraine has taken out some targets around Belgorod and the border guards ran for their lives, but the feeling the Russian has is that his well-known supply and military bases around Belgorod, for example, are completely off-limits.
Now everything can change very quickly and it’s not a bad idea if the Russians believe this and build the next little pile of ammunition while Ukraine follows in real time how it grows before striking.
I understand that this type of fire missions might not be politically/diplomatically acceptable, but I would have liked to see these bases and depots go up in smoke as well, since Ukraine can reach them.
