They probably pulled out the VDV beforehand as we speculated, and then it was LPR/DPR/newly mobilized troops handling the defense/rearguard.
In the city of Kherson it was chaos and there are/were probably significant pockets of defense left throughout that front area.
So sure, there will be a substantial number of prisoners from this but nowhere near the 20,000 hoped for right at the start.
I thought Erik14’s video where they ran across the pontoon bridge clearly showed that there wouldn’t be huge numbers of prisoners.

I’m probably the highest counter on the number of prisoners and quite surprised I haven’t declared 20,000 prisoners yet.
The truth is that defending troops do everything to avoid being encircled and it is in their nature to try to escape before the encirclement is complete – that’s a fact.
But don’t despair because the ferry camps and bridges were HIMARSed and cluster-rocket bombed continuously during the last day of the retreat and there are many Russians bobbing around in the river delta. There are also a few thousand prisoners in total but far from the 20,000 everyone hoped for in the middle of the chaos.
This was a solid win, Russians were forced to leave the safety of their holes and run a gauntlet across the Dnieper despite Hypnopaddan proclaiming Kherson as Russian forever and that they had pushed the entire VDV into the area – humiliation of the highest order.

It’s not the first time those who don’t show up go wild but here he does it in front of a formation of some company with senior officers around.

I’m quite convinced that (all of the West’s) Ukrainian SOF are infinitely stronger than we think and that they make a big difference.
The Russians are now in holes in groups and generally have poor combat value and can be picked off group by group at night with reconnaissance/capable infantry/SOF or partisans.

I think MRF sobered up the constant discussion about Putin on video with today’s newspaper but if I had to guess, things are boiling fiercely in the Russian leadership right now.
The sluggishness is enormous, we know that, but now we’re talking about a very big loss here. The oligarchs and the rest of the pack are waiting for a bright spot but it just got much darker.
Are they ready to take it for the good of the team and do they have the strength not to accept it?
Who knows but surely plans are being made in dark rooms right now.

Those pushing the negotiation solution now are (once again) doing Russia’s bidding.
It is Russia that has started probing and Ukraine that has given clear answers.
Anything involving Ukraine giving up land, frozen front or ceasefire now tries to benefit Russia.
The Bazaar Sultan and Goulash Baron have been out recently on that matter.
By the way, I think Hungary will be harmed as a country by this and probably Turkey as well.
Once an opinion is formed it’s hard to reverse it.
