Kobane besieged January 22, 2026

Some disaster warning here –

The Kurds are now fighting for Kobane, google it – Rojava is about to fall.

There are plenty of videos showing joyous ISIS terrorists who have captured female peshmergas that they will defile, torture, and kill.

Just like with Iran, there is a lack of demonstrations on our streets and the Palestine gang is quite silent – I know what I think about this and time and time again we have been shown that they are not entirely honest. Not because peace in Gaza is not an honorable thing because it is, but for the simple reason that they have sympathies for Hamas, Hezbollah, and ISIS in their ranks. When Kurds or Iranian opposition want to overthrow the mullahs, they become completely silent.

In fact, in Stockholm, two demonstrations clashed – pro-Palestine and pro-Kurds – what more do you need to see to understand who is hiding behind the good cause for Palestine?

Our youngest environmental activist and she who rhymes with Gadd are completely silent, and they are our biggest Middle Eastern megaphones standing at the forefront.

Turkey reached Trump and of all the crap he has done, this is the worst for me because he has given the green light to a massacre without hesitation, which was also completely unnecessary.

The Kurds are the most stable and rule-abiding group in the MENA region who have been absolutely loyal to the West – even God would see throwing them under the bus.

This mass murder is not yet on anyone’s radar for the simple reason that the opposition-building machinery has not started yet – and above you know why.

But it is also an excellent example that Europe cannot protect its friends when needed – because if the US withdraws, couldn’t we in Europe assist with airstrikes?

We have the satellites, we have the aircraft that can operate from bases in southern Europe, we have the air tankers, and it would not take more than 2-3 days of carpet bombing for the desire for mass murder to leave the ISIS terrorists.

It is Turkey that is leading this – believe nothing else.

Europe needs to start acquiring the ability to assist countries under attack in clear violation of international law and the legal order we claim to support – of course, we should have prepared to help the Kurds, but considering that it took us four years to get organized with Ukraine, the likelihood is low.

Turkey will pay for this, I’m quitting kebab 😡

I have a post in progress about Davos, but Macron wanted China to come to us instead, the solution to a bad USA is NOT China, I don’t know if Macron maybe just provoked because he is a bit of a troublemaker that drives you crazy, but in any case, bad.

Rojava is ¼ of the Kurdish territories – they are in SE Turkey, northern Iraq, and NW Iran, but since Turkey went after them in Syria, the Turkish territory is guaranteed to be planned for mass extermination.

And then maybe Iraq will get the urge again and move north?

In the MENA region, the Kurds are a reliable ally who absolutely stands on the right side of history.

Just the fact that most people reading my posts about the Kurds have not yet noticed it is so damn telling of who we have with us in the MENA region – when Hamas is beaten, the streets are filled with demonstrators, and on October 7, 2023, it was a public celebration and jubilation on the same day.

When the Kurds are wiped out or 300,000 Iranians are injured, silence echoes. Our media probably has “Middle East experts” who bring in what they think the media should report on, and they obviously do not feel for the Kurds and Iranians.

I come across anti-Kurdish posts on X and the videos and images are horrifying.

Now, I don’t think it will happen, but IF the US decides not to assist Iran with an air operation, then I almost give up hope.

I think it depends on Israel being genuinely afraid of Iranian retaliation, their Iron Dome wavered considerably last time.

But I guess that if the regime slowly falls, the last thing they will do is rain rockets over Israel anyway – a quick intervention would be better for everyone.

Anyway, we are back to ISIS and genocide in Syria, as soon as the regime takes over prisons from the Kurds, tens of thousands of ISIS terrorists and their families are released – this is one of the most illogical things I have seen in the last four years – they have gladly given everything back to ISIS that the West took from them with tremendous effort.

I don’t actually know where Russia stands in all of this, they liked Assad and the US helped to bring him down.

The worst part is that it is happening in silence, the West has turned over and fallen back asleep.

But hope is not entirely lost – the Kurds are also among the world’s best soldiers, and now they apparently already have a decent drone weapon, I saw – reinforcements are pouring into Syria right now, and the final word has not been said in this epic betrayal 😡

    1. It’s not as quiet as Johan No.1 wants to make it, but I agree that it’s a bit strange that there isn’t more interest.

The Kurdish diaspora in Sweden is quite large, estimates point to between 100-150,000. That’s more than when it comes to the Palestinians. This should mean that many Swedes have also had contact with Kurds and should be aware of and interested in their situation.

However, the fact that there is still a lukewarm interest probably has its explanations.

To some extent, it may be because they don’t have their own state or country and are scattered in several countries, as well as being in conflict with several parties and also internally divided.

So, it’s quite complex. Not as easy for the media to write about in a simple and easily packaged way.

Another problem may be that Turkey is a member of NATO, they are supposed to belong to the good side, and even the EU tries to be diplomatically cautious towards Turkey.

The Palestine/Israel conflict has been internationally relevant for many years, and the conflict is geographically clearly limited, as are the two main parties involved.

I do not agree that it is “revealing” that it is quiet (implying that pro-Palestinians and Swedish media are ISIS supporters).

  3. Johan No.1, good that you bring up the Kurds (again). 👍
Something needs to be done, once again the EU is passive (we really seem to be afraid of conflict).

However, I can’t help but offer some criticism.

If someone is Pro-Palestinian but doesn’t protest on behalf of the Kurds, does that automatically make them a supporter of ISIS, a lover of HAMAS, and just generally rotten? I don’t see any Pro-Israelis, or anyone from the right (or for that matter any climate activists) demonstrating either. By your logic, everyone who doesn’t demonstrate must be a supporter of HAMAS and ISIS.

Having opinions and taking a stand in a conflict doesn’t mean that one automatically has to get involved in everything that happens in the world. Not getting involved doesn’t automatically make someone a bad person. Personally, I have only contributed to Ukraine in recent years, but that doesn’t mean that I think the war in Sudan is okay and that we shouldn’t care about people starving to death there.

Your rhetoric, where you try to demonize those you don’t like, is full of logical fallacies. I think it would be better if you stayed away from that kind of poor argumentation. It makes otherwise well-written texts lose credibility. Although I guess it might resonate with a large part of your audience.

I don’t deny that there are HAMAS and ISIS supporters among the pro-Palestinians, it would be strange otherwise since they partly have the same goals. Just as there are actually a few Nazis in Ukraine fighting against the Russians. However, that doesn’t mean that all pro-Palestinians are ISIS lovers and it doesn’t mean that all pro-Ukrainians are Nazis. You are using the same kind of rhetoric that the Russians use when they try to undermine support for Ukraine.

I agree that the media is not really keeping up, even though there is actually some coverage. Here is what I found quickly from the past few days:

    1. Anti-Israel/pro-Hamas sentiment has a clear connection to the regime in Iran, which finances Hezbollah, a sister organization to Hamas. The Iranian regime finances both.

“The spider in the web is Iran, which provides these groups with money, training, and weapons.”

      https://www.svt.se/nyheter/utrikes/hamas-hizbollah-och-huthirebellerna-sa-hanger-grupperna-ihop

Iran, which finances the terrorist-classified Hamas, also clearly takes a stand against Israel.

The protests, led among others by the representatives Johan mentions, do not distance themselves from Hamas. Therefore, wouldn’t it also be strange to distance oneself from the regime in Iran that finances the group Hamas?

Instead, those behind and participating in the protests, where there has been no distancing from Hamas at all, but rather legitimization of the group, are likely concerned that the financier Iran might somehow lose influence, regardless of the civilian cost this may require?

    2. “At a climate demonstration in Amsterdam in November, Greta Thunberg handed over the microphone to a person, Sara Rachdan, who on stage chanted slogans questioning Israel’s right to exist and who praised and defended Hamas’ massacre of Israeli civilians. The slaughter of children, youth, women, and the elderly was called “resistance” and Israel’s warfare was equated with Nazi Germany’s genocide of Europe’s Jews.”

Anna-Lena Lodenius has been investigating these issues since the late 80s. She is primarily known for her studies of autonomous and extreme nationalist movements, but in recent years has also started writing about Islamist extremists. She is the author of a long list of books.

    3. Now you’re both exaggerating, surely to make a rhetorical point.

It’s better that we agree that there are MANY hidden agendas here. Above all, it’s concerning that the EU population accepts (= doesn’t care about) Russia’s, Iran’s, and the USA’s influence operations and propaganda wars (listed in order of importance).
I believe that we should use all the tools we have to bring the hidden to light and fight back, including shaming. However, the most important thing is to bring hidden things to light, just as Johan usually does. Keep it up! Nevertheless, it may be important to keep it clean and not get stuck in the militant quagmire, you’re absolutely right MXT.

    4. You took the words right out of my mouth MXT 👍

What I think is missing in the interpretation of who takes a stand against what is the class perspective. The left is against capital and thus against the stronghold of capital, the USA. The USA has clearly taken a stand in Israel/Palestine and the enemies of my enemies are my friends –> the left supports Palestine. Add to that the clear distinction between a strong/rich and a weak/poor party in the conflict (without taking a stand on who is right or wrong) and the left will take a stand for the weak/poor party. Parts of the left will also in an unhealthy way connect Israel and Judaism to capital.

In other MENA conflicts, this dynamic is not as pronounced –> hence, activists for Palestine and the rest of the left do not take a stand as clearly.

To criticize someone for taking a stand on one issue but not another will only backfire on oneself as long as one does not have an opinion on absolutely everything.

Personally, I reserve the right not to take a stand on the Israel/Palestine issue (which may upset some people). It is far too complex while being filled with individuals who have an extremely black-and-white interpretation, regardless of which side they support.

  4. “😔 About 7,000 Ukrainian civilians left Donetsk region in a month As of today, 190,000 people remain in the territory of Donetsk region under Ukrainian control, 12,000 of whom are children.”

  5. Several board members of the Civic Assembly are leaving their positions in protest. This is reported by Dagens ETC.

The resignations come after party leader Daniel Sonesson tried to finance the operations through contacts with controversial politicians in Brussels. In internal emails that the newspaper has had access to, he claimed to have contact with the Italian government party Brothers of Italy and the Polish Law and Justice party. However, instead, he met with Fernand Kartheiser from Luxembourg.

Kartheiser has a background as a double agent for the Soviet Union and the CIA. He has made several pro-Putin statements and also said that Europe should approach Russia. Last spring, he was expelled from the European Parliament’s conservative ECR group.

In an internal email, one of the resigned Civic Assembly politicians writes that the contacts with Kartheiser “should actually be reported to the Security Service”.

“It was a thoughtless, careless, and power-hungry behavior,” the person writes.

Sonesson confirms to Dagens ETC that the meeting took place but also states that the party “fully and clearly stands behind Ukraine.”

  6. “Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky are set to meet in Davos, as reported by Politico.

At 09:30, Zelensky’s staff could confirm that he has landed in Switzerland, and that the meeting is scheduled for 13:00 local time.

The meeting is to take place after the signing ceremony for Trump’s so-called peace council, writes Politico. Trump is also scheduled to have bilateral meetings with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, and leaders from Poland, Belgium, and Egypt.

At the same time, Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff is planning to travel to Moscow tonight to meet with Vladimir Putin. Witkoff stated that discussions on peace boil down to ‘one question’.”

  7. Greenland

“Donald Trump says he agrees with NATO on a framework for a new agreement regarding Greenland. According to sources in several media outlets, it includes, among other things, the US having priority access to all extraction of rare earth minerals on the island.

It’s “absolutely crazy,” says Malte Humpert of the American think tank The Arctic Institute to CNN.

    – The idea that you could turn Greenland into the US’s factory for rare earth minerals is science fiction. You might as well extract them on the moon. In some ways, it’s actually harder than on the moon.

According to CNN, Greenland has been trying for decades to attract foreign investors to their mineral resources. However, there are plenty of issues. Thick ice, lack of workforce, and nonexistent infrastructure in large parts of the territory would require massive investments for companies wanting to start mineral extraction.

    – It’s simply an incredibly challenging environment to conduct mining in, says Ian Lange, former Trump advisor and professor at the Colorado School of Mines.” https://omni.se/trump-vill-utvinna-gronlands-mineraler-experter-kallar-det-helknappt/a/k0R759

    1. “Many of the USA’s European allies breathed a sigh of relief after Donald Trump on Wednesday evening said that he does not plan to take over Greenland by force and that he has started working on a draft agreement together with NATO.

The Greenlanders are not necessarily as happy. On Facebook, the Greenlandic parliament member Aaja Chemnitz raged against the negotiations.

‘NATO has no mandate to negotiate anything at all without us from Greenland. The idea that NATO would have anything to say about our country and our minerals is completely absurd,’ she writes.

The Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen also seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, pointing out that Trump’s ambition to take control of Greenland still seems to stand.

‘Of course, it is positive in itself what the president said about using the military, but it doesn’t make the problem disappear,’ Rasmussen said according to Deutsche Welle.”

    2. “With the help of sources in American media, a picture is beginning to emerge of the contents of the new framework agreement on Greenland between Donald Trump and NATO.

The Wall Street Journal writes that the exact outlines are unclear, but European sources say that the ongoing discussions will revolve around several themes. More American soldiers in Greenland and increased European efforts in the Arctic are on the table. In addition, the US should be given veto power in matters concerning Greenland’s minerals, as a way to prevent Russia and China from investing, according to the sources.

The framework agreement also includes the principle of respecting Denmark’s sovereignty over the island, according to two sources for Axios. At the same time, the “Greenland Defense Agreement” between the US and Denmark from 1951 is set to be refreshed. According to the sources, the agreement also includes provisions for the US to build “the golden dome,” the complex missile defense system that Trump dreams of, in Greenland.

Sources from Deutsche Welle describe the agreement as consisting of four parts: abolished tariffs, updated Greenland agreement, American influence on investments, and increased European presence. But several key details are still to be discussed, according to correspondent Misha Komadovsky.

According to sources from The New York Times, the possibility of Denmark handing over control of smaller Greenlandic land areas to the US was also discussed.”

    3. NYT

“What we know about a potential deal is very limited. An official who spoke to my colleagues on condition of anonymity likened the idea of giving the United States sovereignty over small parts of Greenland to Britain’s military bases in Cyprus, considered British territory. (The officials said they did not know if that idea had inspired the framework announced by Trump.)”

      — Katrin Bennhold, NYT

    4. “A couple of European correspondents are harshly criticizing Donald Trump after the Greenland issue and subsequent U-turn. The President will now pretend that he has accomplished something, which is completely nonsensical, writes Sky News correspondent Mark Stone.

Trump backed out as soon as he had the chance, and the only thing he has managed to do is cause permanent damage to NATO cooperation, Stone continues.

BBC’s Europe correspondent Nick Beake describes Trump’s actions as the “mother of all retreats.” In his text, he highlights the efforts of NATO chief Mark Rutte. Previously, Rutte has been mocked for praising Trump and calling him “Daddy,” but this time he actually seems to have made Trump back down.

“The tensions have eased now, but this is far from resolved.”

Even German and French media are filled with analyses of Trump’s U-turn. The German TV channel ZDF’s political commentator Diana Zimmermann and Die Tageszeitung’s writer Leon Holly agree that the threat to Greenland remains, despite Trump’s explicit promise not to use military force.

“As is well known, one cannot take Trump at his word. Furthermore, the bully confirmed his imperialist ambitions in the next breath,” writes Holly.”

  8. Kuba

“Sources tell the Wall Street Journal that the USA is actively working to overthrow Cuba’s communist regime before the end of the year.

There is still no concrete plan on how to end Cuba’s seven-decade-long communist rule, but Americans believe the time is right. They see Cuba as significantly weakened since their ally Nicolás Maduro was ousted in Venezuela.

Trump officials have met with Cuban exiles and civil groups in both Miami and Washington. The goal is to identify someone within Cuba’s government willing to turn their back on colleagues, similar to Venezuela, where an insider was helpful when the USA overthrew the government.

However, identifying a clear plan for Cuba’s future is more difficult, say the sources, as it is a one-party state that essentially lacks civil society and opposition.

“This is a much tougher nut to crack. There is no one enticed to work on the side of the USA,” says Ricardo Zúñiga, who worked on the Cuba issue during the Obama administration.”

  9. Trump’s Peace Council

“Vladimir Putin is open to transferring one billion dollars from the Russian assets frozen by the international community to Donald Trump’s new so-called peace council, writes Moscow Times.

One billion dollars is also the price that Donald Trump has mentioned for countries wishing to buy a permanent seat on the council. It is unclear if Putin means that the money should be used in that way.

The rest of the frozen Russian assets could be used to rebuild Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement, according to a statement from Putin on Wednesday.

The proposal to establish Trump’s peace council is expected to be formally signed on Thursday. The vast majority of the around fifty countries invited have not yet indicated their intention to join.

On Thursday, Russia and the US envoys are also expected to meet for a meeting.

Russia cannot access the frozen assets without the consent of the countries that froze them.”

USA starts moving IS prisoners out of Syria

USA announced yesterday that they had moved 150 IS fighters from a detention facility in northeastern Syria to Iraq and that they may eventually move up to 7,000 more.

The transfer came amid concerns that thousands of former IS fighters and their family members could escape detention as the Syrian government and Kurdish-led forces vie for control of the area. The 150 fighters were taken to an unspecified “safe location in Iraq,” the US Central Command said.

    1. More about IS

“Swedish IS members may have been released when Kurdish forces were pushed back in northern Syria, reports Aftonbladet.

The Kurdish self-government has for years held IS members and their relatives in several different detention camps, but during the escalating clashes with Syrian government forces, the Kurds have abandoned several of the camps.

Malena Rembe, an independent analyst in terrorism and security policy issues and former chief analyst at the Swedish Security Service, says that there is also a risk that the investigations against the European IS travelers who have been detained in the camps will be destroyed when the Kurds are forced to retreat.

      – If they have to prioritize protecting their population or protecting the archives – how do you think they will prioritize? If the evidence ends up in the hands of the Damascus regime, it is not likely that they will secure them, she says.”

  13. I don’t understand how the world in any way exhaled yesterday around Greenland. Since when can Rutte negotiate about Greenland? Frederiksen wasn’t even present in Davos. I think this smells like the Ukraine war from a mile away, where the USA and RU are making deals over the heads of other states, but this time it’s the USA and NATO.

Sure, Rutte can talk about military reinforcement, but parts were also about mineral extraction, etc. It’s completely crazy how NATO can come up with such proposals without consulting with DK/Greenland (just like in the negotiations between USA/RU).

The world is still heading straight to hell.
