Off-Topic, USA and Israel attack Iran!

Israel has carried out a so-called “preventive” attack against Iran, among other things by sending several drones into the country. The USA has confirmed that they are also involved. Reports from Tehran indicate more explosions. So far, there are not many more confirmed details than that.

Speculations have already begun regarding oil prices, which are expected to rise sharply, or maybe not after all.

The situation is probably not as serious if you believe the Swedish media, where dumped apples at GW’s home are still one of the biggest news stories.

Russian losses in Ukraine

What stands out in the report is once again a large number of UAVs.

  • 770 KWIA
  • 1 Tank
  • 5 AFVs
  • 32 Artillery systems
  • 2 MLRS
  • 1616 UAVs
  • 149 Vehicles & fuel tanks

Russian activities

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports:

  • 148 Strikers
  • 103 Airstrikes
  • 328 KAB/CAB
  • 8,681 Suicide drones
  • 3,483 Artillery shells (74 from MLRS)

  1. 💥🔥✊👍

“🔥 Novominskaya, objective monitoring of the attack on the Albashneft oil refinery. A small mini-refinery for petroleum products, which produces mainly diesel fuel, fuel oil, and low-quality gasoline (capacity of approximately 100,000–150,000 tons per year).”

  2. Iran has fired missiles at Israel, according to the Israeli military.

“Air raid sirens sounded in several locations around the country after missiles fired from Iran towards Israel were identified,” writes IDF on X.

Earlier in the morning, an Iranian official told Reuters that Iran’s counterattack will be “crushing.”

“Iran may not be a military superpower like the USA, but if there’s one thing they have a lot of, it’s ballistic missiles,” military analyst Sean Bell told Sky News.

“The USA is participating in the Israeli attack on Iran, sources tell New York Times, AP, and several Israeli media outlets. Shortly after, the USA confirms the matter.

The attacks are said to have taken place both at sea and on land, according to the Americans.

The exact extent of the USA’s involvement is still unclear. Some sources suggest that the USA has assisted in the planning, while a US defense official told NYT that “American military attacks on Iran are ongoing.”

The attack has been planned for months, according to Israeli officials.

    1. If we don’t hear from Joan No.1, we know he is there trying to report!

Otherwise, we have set up a system to send smoke signals, so I will return with live reports as soon as I have heard (or rather seen) something from him.

“Netblocks reports Iran is under a total Internet blackout. It is unclear if this is due to the attacks, cyber warfare, or action by Iranian security to suppress information.”

  3. “Observers disagree on what impact a war between Israel, the USA, and Iran could have on oil prices, writes Amy Myers Jaffe in an analysis in the Houston Chronicle.

According to RBC Capital Markets, the situation in global oil reserves currently resembles that of 2008 when the price of crude oil rose to $148 per barrel.

Energy consultant Rystad Energy, on the other hand, believes that the price might only increase by around $10 from today’s level, before coming back down.

Overall, there is expected to be a surplus of around 3.8 million barrels of oil per day in 2026, according to a forecast from the International Energy Agency (IEA). This means that the global oil market seems to be fairly well prepared to handle a loss of Iranian oil.

However, Myers Jaffe notes that when the rockets start flying in the Middle East, all sorts of risks can emerge.

The exact reaction of the oil market will only be known on Sunday evening when trading resumes. Earlier this week, concerns about an invasion pushed the price to its highest level in seven months.

Brent crude oil closed the week at just over $73 per barrel, while WTI ended at just over $67.”

      1. If I understand it correctly, the oil price has been low because if OPEC reduces its production, the USA will increase. Fracking provides relatively small sources that, if the oil price becomes too low, will not be replaced. But they can also scale up production relatively quickly if the oil price rises, which OPEC does not want as they want to keep their market shares. Of course, it should also be the right type of oil for the right refinery.

  4. “USA backs Pakistan and says the country has the right to defend itself against the Taliban in Afghanistan. This is stated by a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State in an email thread, as reported by Reuters.

In the email, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Allison Hooker writes that she has spoken with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Amna Baloch.

“We will continue to closely monitor the situation and have expressed our support for Pakistan’s right to defend itself against the Taliban’s attacks,” she writes.”

  5. Moving on to the more important news: [* irony *]

“It was SVT’s satirical program “Svenska nyheter” that dumped apples at the home of criminologist Leif GW Persson. That’s what the host Messiah Hallberg says in the program.

He goes through the verdict against the activist who was convicted of harassment and unlawful threats against Johan Forssell (M) and Benjamin Dousa (M). Persson has taken the activist’s side, believes that the apple action against Forssell was not a threat, and promises to pay fines and legal costs.

    – It’s a tricky case. The only thing I am certain of is that GW loves to receive unwanted apple deliveries, says Hallberg, rolling a clip where the satirical program dumps 500 kilos of apples at Persson’s farm in Sörmland.

Persson has stated that he perceived the act as a threat to his family. He has promised to “sue the hell out of them” and report it to the police.

    – You certainly have the right to report this to the police. But then I trust that you – with your decent economy – will cover all legal costs, says Hallberg.”

    1. Swedish news is still a satire program. Quite good actually. Sometimes I wonder how he dares.

By the way, I think Persson has lost it. He defended the Rojava initiative by saying that the ministers deserved it because of their politics. An absurd defense. Where would we end up if such a principle were valid.

In this case, I assumed that the recording of the tipped apples shown in the program was made somewhere other than at Persson’s farm. It is still a satire program, that is to say humor. If this was aimed directly at Persson, they have crossed a line. I doubt it. Whatever, when Persson himself is affected, different rules apply than when someone else is the target.

  7. Israel announces on Saturday that they have carried out attacks against Iran, and reports from Tehran mention several explosions. The USA is also participating with their own strikes against Iran, who has responded with a series of rockets towards Israel.

    – Bombs will fall everywhere, says Donald Trump about the coordinated attack.

  8. “Young Sevastopol residents will be taught at the “Zarnitsa” game to become Russian “cannon fodder” The Russian authorities have announced the holding of “Zarnitsa 2.0” in the city – a modern version of the Soviet military-sports game. The project was relaunched in Russia in 2024.

To see what qualities the Russian authorities are striving to develop in children, look at the screenshot. Among them are Russian patriotism, UAV management, as well as combat tactics, assault actions, and mine clearance.

In short, a direct path to the front line. Try, under any pretext, not to let your children into this propaganda cesspool of Putin’s bloody meat grinder.”

  9. Another one about the refinery – “Ukraine has hit an oil refinery in the Krasnodar region tonight. I suspect this is an illustrative photo, but this Russian site does not say so. Only one tank is said to be alight in Novominskaya, a village 150km north of Krasnodar city, near the regional border with Rostov.”

The image looks suspiciously AI-generated, but was quite nice regardless, nothing brightens up as much as Russian refineries and depots on fire!

  10. Now it’s been over a week since Johan No.1 posted anything.
I think I should rename the website to the humble name “MXT rules the world” 😂

Just kidding, but waiting for a loooong yellow wall with accumulated deep insights about the situation in Ukraine and the world!

  11. 🇮🇷 offtopic

Carl Bildt: ”The regime in Tehran 🇮🇷 is abhorrent. The attack is still a clear violation of international law. You don’t become a saint because of the sin of others.”

As someone wrote in the thread:

Let me translate: “Churchill did not become a saint through the sin of Hitler”.

  12. Rolling average 28 days localized Russian attacks (red), non-localized Ukrainian attacks (blue), and ratio (green)  🇺🇦non-localized/🇷🇺localized attacks.

A  decreasing Russian pressure simultaneously with an increasing Ukrainian pressure, resulting in an increasing ratio (%) of Ukrainian/Russian attacks.

    1. Interesting. Looks positive. But isn’t 28 days too long? Of course, I don’t have insight into how the underlying data looks. Just a spontaneous reflection.

      1. Some things that may be interesting to compare, Ukrainian target of 30K KWiA in a month, what does Russian recruitment look like – also a longer time frame, as well as the war economy to mention a few other things that are being looked at with a slightly longer perspective. In my report earlier today, there are otherwise 7 days rolling in the top chart.

        1. There is of course interest in different time perspectives. I had not noticed that there were seven days in those figures. They look so “spiky” and I can’t read the accompanying text.

Clearly interesting with 28 days as a complement to the faster processes. I apologize for the silly comment.

  13. ZELENSKYY ON IRAN:

“Although Ukrainians never threatened Iran, the Iranian regime chose to become Putin’s accomplice and supplied him with “shahed” drones, and not only the drones themselves, but also the technologies. Iran also provided other weapons to Russia.

Over the course of this full-scale war, the Russians have used more than 57,000 shahed-type attack drones against Ukraine – against our people, against our cities, and against our energy infrastructure.

Other nations have also suffered from this terror. Therefore, it is fair to give the Iranian people a chance to rid themselves of a terrorist regime – to rid themselves of it and to guarantee security for all nations that have suffered from terror originating in Iran.”

  14. Former Chief of Ukrainian military intelligence Budanov:

“Ukraine would have retaken all occupied territories if it were not for Moscow’s support from its allies, primarily Iran.”

Iran is a sworn enemy of Ukraine.

    🇮🇷⚔️🇺🇦

  15. The support for Ukraine probably hadn’t surpassed Biden’s: Ukraine’s archenemy Iran🇮🇷, according to Ukraine itself. How can one be in favor of a regime change in Iran and against the Iranian people?

The former Vice President of the USA, Democrat Kamala Harris, directs in a post on X criticism towards Donald Trump’s decision to carry out Saturday’s military attacks on Iran.

“Donald Trump is dragging the USA into a war that the American people do not want. Let me be clear: I am against a regime change war in Iran, and our troops are put in danger by Trump’s chosen wars.”

Furthermore, she describes today’s actions as a “dangerous game” with American lives that “endanger the stability in the region and the rest of the world.”

  16. There is probably a lot happening now, waiting for a long yellow wall of Johan 1, when he finally gets a grip on the events.

It was probably expected that Israel and the USA would strike. One does not gather such a large force just to intimidate.

First question… Why at all? After the last bombing, the USA assured that Iran’s nuclear program had been bombed back to the Stone Age. Now they suddenly have only days until they have an A-bomb, oh they were quick. Or could it be that Trump has suddenly been struck by empathy, and nobly wants to free the Iranian people from their chains?… No, I wouldn’t think so… Is it then the Christian right, who paid Trump to sow the seeds of Armageddon to lure the savior down from his cloud once again?… Or… is it as simple as Trump wanting to take control of Iran’s oil to stop China’s progress? Or is it because he is good friends with Netanyahu?

Second question… Why now? Trump had indicated 10 days, was it last Sunday? Besides, negotiations were ongoing… Was it Israel that rushed things? Was it for domestic reasons, Epstein documents, did new information emerge during the Clinton interrogations…??

And what has happened so far?

Israel and Isa have bombed several cities. It is said that the USA bombed a girls’ school with 85 dead, which is terrible, if true. A representative from the US army promised to find out the truth. Luckily they didn’t ask Trump or Vance, they would probably just blame the victims.

Now it is also said that the Ayatollah would have passed away, if true, then congratulations are in order.

Iran has fired missiles and martyrs everywhere, even to Dubai, and it seems that there are some issues with the air defense both in Iran and in Iran’s targets.

How will it continue? If Khameini is dead now, someone else will surely take over, is he as fanatical as Kahmeini? Probably he is, and even if he were more moderate, and wanted to reach an agreement with the USA/Israel, I don’t think the USA/Israel will give up until they have a regime they can control.

We know that Trump is for sale, but I don’t think it will work this time, I don’t think Netanyahu would approve.

What about the Chinese weapons that are said to have been flown in, will they be used or not? And do they work?

The Hormuz strait is closed, how will the world react, the oil price?

In the USA, Congress is raging because Trump has once again gone to war without asking them… What can they do? I don’t think they will do more than complain now, but then it’s probably time for charges of abuse of power.

And how long will this go on? I think it depends a lot on the Revolutionary Guard. Some may be willing to switch sides, while most are probably quite fanatical.

If the current regime does not fall and the war does not end in an agreement/bribe with Trump, there will continue to be a massacre of civilians until all resistance is gone. Probably the regime will become even more Islamist.

If the regime falls, there will probably be a civil war until the last Revolutionary Guard and old mullah are imprisoned or dead.

Last time they bombed, it took 12 days. Now I think it will take longer. The mullah regime knows that their future is at stake.

I believe we can expect more refugees towards Europe no matter what happens.

    1. So everything is about Trump making a buck, CB500four? Everything can be reduced and boiled down to a coquettish Trump, and Europe has thus, in its eagerness to flirt with Trump, provided bases for weeks to the USA ahead of this attack? Your worldview, which based on the Iranian propaganda you convey, seems to be taken from SVT.

      1. Well, I might be a bit too cynical at times, and I believe that Trump puts himself first, and the USA second. Fortunately, his actions sometimes also lead to positive effects for others. Venezuela, for example, seems to have had a positive effect on the people, but it might be a bit too early to say.

I can’t agree that it has anything to do with Iranian propaganda, I despise the Iranian regime, and I wish nothing but for the Iranian people to regain the freedom they deserve.

I think it’s only positive that the USA and Israel are now bombing away the mullah regime. However, that doesn’t mean I have a positive view of either Trump and his regime, or Netanyahu for that matter, but I can still see positive effects of their actions, such as crushing Hamas, reducing Iranian influence, and above all, reducing Russian influence.

What happens in Iran now after the Ayatollah is gone will be crucial in how the world views the USA and Trump.

        1.  No, you don’t have to be positive about Trump. But a president is still just a president, not like in Russia a autocrat. However, let us hope that Ayatollah was an autocrat squared, it would facilitate the collapse of his regime. Regarding the girls’ school, it was a news that was reported by SvT but geolocated turned out to originate from an Iranian military facility. Something that was pointed out:

“Hello @svtnyheter, unsurprisingly you circulated Iranian state media without an ounce of confirmation. The so-called school is geolocated. It is located right in the middle of an IRGC base.”

          https://x.com/stakmaskin/status/2027862008926728542?s=46

      2. I saw another post about the current events in Iran from a well-known account on the other site that also focused on Trump and his need to make money. Yes, it feels petty and sour. It seems like it’s always supposed to be about Trump. He is an old businessman who has dealt with real estate in New York his whole life. He has personality flaws but good domestic political instincts. That’s what I think.

    2. Many good questions, we’ll see if we ever get any answers and maybe we can guess the answer depending on how it ends. Here, Israel is of course also involved, they are unlikely to end before they believe they have achieved their goals, regardless of why Trump chose to attack.

Regardless, let’s keep our fingers crossed that the Iranian people will eventually get democracy.

  17. Over 40 years of death to America. I can understand that they have had enough. I hope the people rise in Iran and that this is over ASAP. Overall, it should be good that ryz loses an ally.

    1. Exactly 🎯 One step closer to Putin dangling on a rope from an entrance sign to a gas station ⛽️. Another layer on the Kremlin onion dome, another babushka has fallen.

  18. Israel’s attack on Iran is said to have been carried out with 200 planes in the air. And this after a thorough mapping of military targets in the country. The entire leading military and civilian leadership seems to have been killed in the attacks.

Now Iranians can go out on the streets and celebrate without snipers from the Revolutionary Guard sitting on the rooftops shooting at people as what happened during the demonstrations in the days between Christmas and New Year’s. Hundreds, if not thousands, of protesting students were shot in the neck by the guard.

Today the air feels easier to breathe. Let the Iranians create a new Iran that is not a military dictatorship with religious overtones. The old Shah’s son Pahlevi has expressed his desire to govern the country during a transitional period. What will crystallize in the future, no one knows.
