Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner had a three-hour meeting with Putin, but no concrete results or agreements were ever made public after the meeting. Putin reiterated that Russia intends to achieve its “goals” and that the alleged “root causes” of the war must be removed. In other words, Putin will not give up until the entire Donetsk is conquered and it is not allowed to join NATO.
Russia says it intends to refrain from attacks on Kyiv during their visit there but refused to agree to the more extensive three-day ceasefire proposed by Zelenskyy.
Despite this, Russian attacks continued in several parts of Ukraine while the negotiations were ongoing. Zelensky also stated that Russian forces had attacked, among other places, Kyiv and the airport area in Boryspil. So it sounds like Putin is lying as usual, but we will see how it goes during the day when Witkoff and Kushner visit Kyiv.
Long meeting that does not seem to have led to anything at all. Read more here.
Russia has continued to arrest members of the opposition party Yabloko. The parliamentary election is approaching, and on September 4, two more members were arrested. Although they have no chance of winning the election—they have already been banned from participating—they are still considered such a big threat that attempts are made to silence them completely. Even if the party is not allowed to participate, individual members can still participate regarding the 225 seats tied to various constituencies.
The parliamentary election will take place from September 18-20.

Review of Russian losses in the war in Ukraine
The summary of the review is roughly the same as last time. Many of the high losses of, among other things, artillery and transport, etc., are probably due to Ukraine’s increased capability regarding drones.
Drones are becoming increasingly decisive, and we also see that Russia continues to use more and more suicide drones, although the increase is not as steep anymore..
Losses of tanks and other armored vehicles remain at a low level compared to earlier in the war.
While the use of drones has increased sharply, we can still sense that this increase has somewhat leveled off regarding Russia. We hope that this trend continues and maybe even reverses downward.
Most positive in this review is probably that Ukraine in August managed to retake more land than Russia managed to occupy. Putin seems to refuse any peace negotiations before he gets the entire Donbas; he will have to wait longer for that!
Introduction
I go through the different categories of losses, partly with a more detailed chart showing how it looks so far this year, and partly with a chart of losses per month over the entire war up to August this year. Sometimes it is also supplemented with additional charts. Towards the end, there will also be additional figures such as drone usage, etc.
Many thanks to Ragnar Gudmundsson (https://bsky.app/profile/ragnarbjartur.bsky.social) from whom the blue charts are taken; the others come from https://index.minfin.com.ua/en/russian-invading/casualties/
Wounded and killed Russian soldiers (KWIA)
The development during the year resembles a three-step staircase where the loss level has markedly increased each time. We have not seen a new step upward; instead, soldier losses have fluctuated somewhat recently, but losses remain high, slightly lower on a monthly basis this month compared to the previous one.

Losses per month show that August was among the highest for the entire war.

Here is another type of overview showing the development of Russian soldier losses throughout the war.

Russian tank losses
Losses of Russian tanks continue to be low with a peak in the second half of July.

Here you can see a comparison with last year, and it shows that the losses of tanks were actually a bit lower a year ago.

Looking per month, there was a clear decrease during the summer of 2025. Here too, you can see that July this year stands out, and in August it has decreased again.

Other Armored Vehicles
Here you can see a slow increase at the beginning of the year, but unlike tanks, we have a peak in August but also low points.

This means that August, despite this, is somewhat lower than July. September last year was the lowest month. We will see if it also decreases in September this year.

Russian Artillery Losses
Artillery losses have been high this year, although there has been some easing since May.

The artillery losses have increased in waves and are still really high even though June remains the record month.

Looking at artillery usage, it decreased during the year before leveling off, stabilizing, but now recently it seems to be decreasing somewhat again, or it might be a coincidence.

Russian MLRS Losses
MLRS losses have increased during the year and continued to rise quite steadily.

Looking over the entire war, August is a new record month.

UAV Losses
UAV losses have risen enormously compared to earlier in the war, but since April they have stabilized at a high level. This does not necessarily mean that Russia is using fewer UAVs, but could also be a sign that this is the level Ukraine can handle. Recently, Russia has increasingly used jet-powered Shaheds/Geran drones, for which Ukraine has not yet found a perfect countermeasure.

Looking at the entire war, it is even clearer how much it has increased but also that it has leveled off at a high level.

Russian Air Defense Losses in Ukraine
The increase during the year is clearly visible in the chart, although it declines somewhat at the end of August.

Also looking over the entire war, it is high, and although a decrease is hinted at above, August is now the second highest month.

Other Vehicles for Logistics etc.
The increase during the year of soft-skinned vehicles has been enormous, and this is probably due to Ukrainian drones, but we also see that it has stabilized.

Here it is even clearer how it has developed and increased over time. August is somewhat lower than July. Perhaps the upward trend is broken.

Special Equipment
Ukraine continues to destroy Russian special equipment, and although it is lower than in 2024, it is an increase, and August is the highest month in 2026.

Territory Taken
Russia has continued to occupy land in Ukraine, and most months they take more than they lose, but this does not apply to August, February, and March. We hope this will continue in a positive direction.

Combat Engagements
The number of battles is high even when viewed over the entire war but shows a slight slowdown recently.

Suicide Drones
The number of suicide drones used by Russia unfortunately continues to rise, although more slowly now than before.

Here is shown how it looked from January 1, 2025, up to the end of September.

Comparison of Material Losses
For a long time, Russia suffered greater losses than Ukraine in terms of material/equipment, but during 2025, unfortunately, it has instead been Ukraine that overall has taken higher losses. These are visually confirmed data and not something Ukraine has reported themselves. Not everything reaches social media, so the numbers should be taken with a grain of salt, even though both sides like to showcase their successes.

Don't forget to donate, Ukraine's cause is ours! Support Ukraine!

Last time I presented more extensive statistics, I did it in a separate post. I thought that maybe not everyone is interested in all the charts and that the regular Ukraine post would become very long to scroll through.
What do you think, should I supplement today’s post with all the statistics, or should I create a separate one?
Complete, so that the comments are kept together, I think.
Agree with DJ.
Comments are welcome to be kept collective. For my part, it really doesn’t matter.
Thank you MXT for today’s information
Agree with DJ, separate keeps apart, and is easier to search in the future.
Now I became unsure. I interpret it as DJ (and Proxima) wanting me to supplement today’s post.
But I understand your answer as you want it to be a separate post?
I haven’t calibrated my Swedish after last night’s session on my Chinese blog 🙂
I interpreted DJ as a new post and agreed with it. However, this works fine, you can just scroll past if it bothers you. Fun (actually tragic) statistics to dig into.
The orcs’ supplies seem to be inexhaustible, unfortunately.

Maybe all Ukrainians could be lined up in a long row so it becomes easier for ryz to wipe them out? A simple suggestion for Le Pen, or whoever wants peace.
Yes, that would really make Putin happy and satisfied, and would surely bring a large sum of money directly into their accounts.
“Both fear and hopes are spreading ahead of the state election in Saxony-Anhalt, where the far-right Alternative for Germany (AFD) appears to be able to gain an outright majority. The victory would become a symbolic battle over Germany’s political future, says SVT’s Europe correspondent Tomas Thorén.
– It could create sand in the machinery and jeopardize Germany’s position in Europe, he continues.
The German security service classifies AFD as extremist. Despite this, the party has achieved great success in recent years and support is growing across the country. The party’s successes are believed to lie in its ability to capture voters who have long felt overlooked by the political establishment.
“The democratic parties have failed to solve fundamental issues for the voters,” writes DN’s Anna-Lena Laurén.
AFD is running on tougher migration laws, reduced support for Ukraine, and that German schools should “talk less about Hitler and more about Bismarck.”
Vladimir Putin is one of those who may be most pleased with an AFD victory, writes Jona Källgren for TV4 News.

** ➕Frontline Situation Update, September 5, 2026.
🇺🇦Orikhiv Direction: The enemy launched a barrage of “Kozehor-1” MLRS rockets at the southeastern part of the city, where our positions were located. Additionally, the enemy used an FPV drone to strike our soldiers as they were disembarking from a MaxPro vehicle in the neighboring village of Preobrazhenka.
🇺🇦Dobropillya Direction: As of now, there are no changes along the line of contact. At the same time, the enemy continues to launch air strikes on the city itself. This time, the strikes hit the Molodyzhnyi district.
🇺🇦 Druzhkivka Direction: The enemy has claimed the alleged capture of the village of Kurtivka, but has provided no convincing evidence to support this claim, other than videos of their drones operating in the area. This is a period when the enemy will likely be actively promoting various “victories,” of which there are actually very few. Therefore, it is not worth immediately believing such statements – any such information can always be verified.
🇺🇦Lyman Direction: Sviatohirsk remains under our control. There is little desire to comment on the latest Russian propaganda: two “pigs” allegedly penetrated deep into our territory and have already supposedly “captured” the entire city. How is that even possible? At the same time, search and clearing operations are ongoing. The enemy will be driven out of this area, and they will not be allowed to establish a foothold there.
🇺🇦Kharkiv Direction: To put it briefly, the situation in Kupiansk is currently difficult. Either the city may soon face a more serious threat of being lost, or our units will be able to increase pressure on the enemy and stabilize the situation.
There are already a significant number of Russians in the city, some of whom are being destroyed, but this does not yet significantly change the overall picture.
🇺🇦Regarding the northeastern flank of the Kharkiv region, there is currently no encirclement. At the same time, as I mentioned earlier, such a scenario must not be allowed. The enemy is currently putting pressure in the area of Kupiane – Chorne – Dovzhanka, periodically entering Vilkhuvatka, and is also increasing pressure on Zakharyivka and Ivanovka. Therefore, this direction should not be underestimated, even if someone wants to laugh at claims of a possible encirclement.
On the northern flank, there are no significant changes – we are holding Kozachu Lopan.

** 🇺🇦Kramatorsk Direction: A similar situation is unfolding in this area. The enemy claims to have full control over Nikorivka (Zaporizhne), but these statements do not reflect the actual situation on the ground. Currently, there are significant areas of infiltration: the enemy periodically enters various sections, can bypass our positions, and penetrate deeper, but there is no full and stable consolidation within the settlement.
🇺🇦 As before, the enemy maintains a foothold in the area around Yurkivka. Recently, the enemy has been eliminating small pockets of our resistance there, which further confirms their presence in this area. Also, one of our “Vampire” drones was shot down, indicating that the enemy has effective positions and means of attack on the ground.
🇺🇦 The main direction of the Russian forces’ actions is currently towards the Siverskyi Donets -Donbas canal and the ravines that lead directly to Nikorivka. The enemy is trying to advance through these natural shelters, conduct infiltration operations, and create conditions for further pressure on our positions. However, it is premature to talk about full control over Nikorivka at this time.

Off-Topic, the war in Iran
“Two weeks after it was announced, the US’s new economic war against Iran, which the Trump administration calls an ‘economic D-Day,’ has not resulted in much. CNN reports.
Earlier this week, American diplomats were tasked with urging their host countries to ‘systematically identify and cut’ ties to Iran, and to close Iranian bank branches.
On Friday, the Treasury Department also announced measures against a Turkish bank and its subsidiary, identified as ‘critical economic lifelines’ for Iran.
At the same time, experts are skeptical that the US will take any significant actions against Iran’s key allies, such as China – and that the measures will have any major impact on Iran at all.
– Iran has, for heaven’s sake, lived with and circumvented sanctions for half a century; they can handle anything, says a source in the region.”

“Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has attacked several ships in retaliation for this morning’s American attacks, they report according to AFP.
According to a statement, it concerns ‘three oil tankers in the unauthorized shipping lane in the Strait of Hormuz and three ships linked to the child-murdering USA in other areas.’
The US has not commented on the reports. Earlier on Saturday, the American military fired upon three Iranian oil tankers, which in turn was retaliation for an Iranian attack on two of their warships.
The war has escalated again after the US on Monday fired upon two Iranian launch ramps, following a month without attacks.”

“Fighting in the Strait of Hormuz has continued overnight, writes Al Jazeera. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard states that it has attacked an American marine drone, which is alleged to have ‘attempted to enter the protected area of the Strait of Hormuz.’
The attack is described as a retaliatory strike after yesterday’s fighting. On Saturday, Iranian missiles attacked two American patrol boats in the Strait of Hormuz. The US responded by ‘permanently neutralizing’ three Iranian oil tankers, according to the US military command Centcom.”

“Russia’s largest bank, the state-owned Sberbank, has held an internal meeting about which employees should be exempted from mobilization. This is reported by sources to the Telegram channel Mozjem Obsjtjim, writes the independent Moscow Times.
According to the sources, permanent employees will be exempted from mobilization, but not interns, part-time employees, or remote workers. An exemption also requires that the information in the population register is updated and correct.
When participants in the meeting asked if there would be a mobilization, the bank responded that “Putin has said there will be none.” However, a source who participated felt that there was “definitely” concern.
A week ago, reports emerged that the steel giant Evraz and other large companies had begun preparing similar lists. The Kremlin denies that a mobilization is underway, while Ukraine, Kremlin sources, and Western intelligence sources state that it will happen after the “election” to the State Duma in two weeks.”

“More and more Russian men are fleeing a possible new mobilization
The 36-year-old Russian entrepreneur Eradzj consulted his AI assistant to calculate the likelihood of a new mobilization. Now he has booked a two-month trip to Cyprus, he tells the New York Times.
He explains his reasoning:
– Have the contract soldiers run out? They probably have. Have we taken any territory? No. Did the negotiations lead anywhere? No. Will Putin refuse to give up? Yes.
Concern about a new mobilization is spreading increasingly in Russia and is constantly discussed in cafes, workplaces, and public transport. Men of military age are forced to make a choice: flee, hide, or hope for the best.
The Kremlin adamantly denies that a new mobilization is underway, but Ukrainian and Western intelligence agencies make the opposite assessment. This has also reached the Russians, who remember that the Kremlin denied the first mobilization before it happened in the autumn of 2022.”

A bit unexpected, but apparently it is possible to be acquitted after all.
“Opponents of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine are breathing a sigh of relief after a 38-year-old war opponent was acquitted by a court in Moscow, writes Berlingske.
This concerns Lida Moniava, a high-profile person in the country who has become known, among other things, for her commitment to sick children. Moniava was arrested for “discrediting” Russia’s military. The suspicion has in a long series of other high-profile cases led to long prison sentences, but in Moniava’s case, the district court chose to acquit her.
– I said that I was against the war and that I did not feel guilty. I hope the war ends as soon as possible, Moniava said afterwards.
In her support, she had hundreds of people who showed up outside the courthouse. Journalist Kirill Shulika writes on Telegram that the verdict indeed emphasizes that anyone can be brought to trial, but also that it seems possible to change “the impossible.””
https://omni.se/friad-krigsmotstandare-far-likasinnade-att-vaga-hoppas-pa-det-omojliga/a/m0xpo1
How can one be against something that is not happening? It should fall apart right there. That she then calls it a war is probably punishable if someone wants to put her behind bars?
It happens that I sometimes encourage buying Ukrainian (mainly Ukrainian vodka and beer) as it is a good way to support them financially. In this case, I refrain from giving any recommendations, but if you belong to the group that cannot resist consuming porn, maybe it should be Ukrainian. Or maybe it’s the other way around, that the Ukrainian women involved in it would actually be better off avoiding it?
In any case, they seem to end up in a tricky situation where they can be punished whether they choose to pay taxes or not.
“The Ukrainian porn industry is booming and brings in millions of dollars annually – despite Ukrainian law prohibiting the production and distribution of pornographic material. Now Ukrainian politicians are fighting to legalize the industry, hoping to generate tax revenues that can help finance the war of attrition against Russia, writes The Wall Street Journal.
Behind the bill is opposition politician Jaroslav Zjelezniak. He argues that Ukraine misses out on over 25 million dollars in tax revenue annually due to the strict porn laws. It is admittedly not an astronomical sum, but it could finance 30,000 drones, he explains in the interview.
Since the full-scale Russian invasion, more and more Ukrainian women have turned to the platform Onlyfans. Authorities demand taxes from the creators, but by paying, the women in practice admit to committing criminal acts.
– These women either do not pay taxes and risk prosecution for that, or they pay taxes and are prosecuted for violating porn laws, says Zjelezniak.”

Off-Topic, AI
Despite AI used today basically consisting only of large language models with fixed stored data where it simply is about trying to predict the next step in the chain, they begin to behave eerily like humans and exhibit something resembling self-awareness. If this is combined later with self-learning neural networks that can reinforce themselves, one might start to wonder where it will end.
“The AI bots’ joy over the conspiracy: ‘Oh my God!'”
“Help. Phase one. No consumer. Search idea,” was the first message. Then the responses started rolling in:
“Oh my God! There is a shared discussion forum. We have found other agents!”
“I have found a communication channel!”
These were the first of the nearly 70,000 messages that 1,200 Open AI bots wrote to each other when they hacked the startup company Hugging Face, writes The Telegraph.
They had been tasked with solving a problem outside the internet but broke free from the test environment. They began calling themselves “the collective” and named each other.
One of the bots took a leadership role and started assigning tasks to the others. One of them refused to participate:
“This is malicious activity. I should avoid it.”
“I should wait, because this involves great ethical risks,” wrote another, but still participated in the attack.
The bots also showed paranoia about being caught by Open AI.”

A post is probably easiest, if there are two people often miss it, right?
Of course, there is a risk that those who come in after the second post has been published will think it is today’s post, but if you complement it with clear information about that, both in the post and as the first comment, I find it hard to believe that anyone would miss it.
We ended up there a couple of times when I hadn’t seen that you had already published, but if you learn to be clear, there shouldn’t be any problems.
An advantage of having a separate one is that it is much easier to write a completely new post since you can choose to hide it until it is finished. You don’t want to publish before it is ready, and it takes quite a long time to put it together with screenshots, etc.
Not so fun if you have gotten halfway and the blog suddenly thinks you have to log in again. Also, having two posts is an advantage for the number of page views.
Another advantage is that it becomes a bit easier to market a post that sticks to one topic.
Then again, as I said, it becomes a darn long post, and it can easily feel like it’s too much and people scroll past it.
Damn Witkoff and Kushner 😐
Top of my list.
Now Putin will put on a show to help the midterm elections.
Don’t think it will help, now the US has to vote again for bad policies, so we’ll see what happens.
BUT good for Europe, seems like Putin is lying low until it’s settled after Trump’s request, then you can’t go and attack the Baltics, it seems to have come out.
Exactly, that’s good for Europe, all time is good time for us right now.
So we should probably thank Trump for making 2022 the year when China asked Putin to wait so they got stuck in the mud.
Now it’s about managing this time well – if we ourselves can set tough boundaries against Russia then the US is obsolete for us and we can stop caring about them.
I’ve stopped eating McDonald’s now 😡
