Ukraine and world daily update 7th May 2025

Ukraine drones all of Russia again – given that it is the 6th May and nightly drone swarms all over the place, how sure is Putin of his precious parade right now 😀

Russia is the instigator behind a fair bit of the unrest in the world and those of us who lived through the Cold war recognizes that they have merely dusted off that old playbook and reinvented themselves just a little to fit.

For example, 7th October 2023 that ignited middle east (again) has Russia’s fingerprints all over it, and Chinas too as they helped to build Hamas tunnels.

The Palestine-Israel conflict was pretty much invented by Soviet – or they seized an opportunity rather and then never allowed it die out.

Syria started the Yom Kippur war that ended in their defeat after Soviet lied through their teeth to Syria that Israel was about to attack – they simply felt they had no other option than to rush a pre-emptive strike to save themselves.

Our round of “1968 protests” are the anti-Israel demonstrations over the past couple of years with university occupations and the lot – exactly how Soviet did during the Vietnam war and these protests are at least guided by Russia.

Vietnam war

US was mildly speaking not performing at its best but history as it has been presented to at least us in Sweden has been a bit misleading –

Vietnam ended up divided with two governments when the French eventually left. North Vietnam did not settle for this and started a war against the ethnic vietnamese government of South Vietnam – they were the defenders. US got roped in and escalated their presence but largely did not cross the 17th parallel into North Vietnam with land forces.

Atrocities carried out by US was exceeded by the north Vietnamese side. The US left and lost and too was the north Vietnamese that broke the truce and continued as soon as US left.

Or South Africa that absolutely deserved an end to their Apartheid-regime but it was Soviet drumming up the support for ending this among university students in the west and the subsequent boycotts absolutely crippled the south African regime.

Russia did not do this out of compassion for the majority population of South Africa but for dominance in Africa – Soviet had other motives.

Today Wagner are in over half of the countries in Africa killing, raping and instigating civil wars – Russia is not your friend and among the worst of the predators.

And they did it again a few years back – the anti-colonial movement have completely pacified the leaders in the west so nobody will interfere as Russia is now spreading out over the African continent in a cloud of murder and plunder.

What stood out to me when I watched something about the Vietnam war was that when US decided to go after the Viet Cong bases in Cambodja then all-out anti-war protests erupted in most US universities – when it hurt Viet Cong then the peace protests kicked in overdrive – a reasonably strong link to suspect Russian involvement.

And as soon as US left and North Vietnam steamrolled the south, nobody cared anymore 🧐

I remember the “Vietnamese boat refugees” from when I was a kid but in Sweden that was presented as US being responsible for those, not North Vietnam.

The other bit was Kissingers catastrophic negotiations in 1972 – pretty similar to Trumps peace negotiations in the Ukraine war, until he gave up 😀

Russia identifies division and internal conflicts in countries and ignites and amplifies it as much as they can. During the cold war +80% of KGB budget went to this as it was low cost and yielded amazing results – they could win wars and take over countries without firing a single bullet.

In Sweden they have armed the gangs and supplied them with drugs to sell and the know-how.

An added benefit of their activities are of course making a sh1t-tonne of money on the side.

The Ukraine-Russia war is a clear-cut war for independence from a vial oppressor, that is also one of the worlds last colonial powers – worthy cause for the world to rally against but the grass root movement is not there.

In this war it has been governments doing the right thing and citizens-movements been largely absent – have you seen anti-israel or pro-ukraine protests in your city over the last couple of years?

Russia is incredibly good at what they are doing, they even managed to instigate a difficult discussion on the colonial past in the west to pacify us so they could re-colonize Africa again in recent years đŸ˜¶

Wagner proudly released a movie a while ago where they chopped up live prisoners with axe on the tarmac in a country in Africa – do not recommend anyone to watch that

Russia are now trying to topple Israel the same way as they toppled South Africa through sanctions, and they are trying to get us in west to abandon Ukraine as they got US out of Vietnam.

Same playbook different year.

Merz in Germany had a splash of potential russian intervention when he did not get elected as chancellor – Russia thrives in narrow-majority situations as they always have someone anonymous they can bribe but a vote is a vote. It eventually got sorted out.

In Romania they played safe and pocketed both the extreme left and extreme right – much as they have done in most of Europe.

Brexit was a Russian operation and in hindsight – 2015 came as a god-send for the brexiteers, and that also had Russian finger prints all over it.

Russia is in a war with West and they are actively destabilizing Europe as we speak.

The murder candidates, they bribe politicians, they threaten others into submission – this is a priority for the Russian state and they got plenty of budget for it.

In Sweden it has been revealed that they have links to organized crime so they got both the money and the means to threaten without having to send anyone in from Russia – domestic work force already in place.

Their sabotage is now covering most of Europe and it is increasing.

When is it enough?

If Trump now has pivoted on Ukraine this is important for Europe – we MUST sort out our eastern border before the global conflict takes off.

If we do not do that, we risk a new cold war which was an absolute pain to live in btw.

Grab that half dry leave with holes in it hanging from the burnt olive branch – be the grown up in the room and focus on making sure that Ukraine have the support to win this.

If we finally after three years manages to do this right the global conflict will largely be fought in the pacific and not in our (European) backyard.
