Kyiv Independent reports that several regions in Russia have been attacked by Ukrainian drones. Among other things, a fire is said to have broken out at the Primorsk port where a fuel tank has been damaged. The attacks are also reported to have disrupted Russian air traffic, including the closure of the Russian international airport Pulkovo in Saint Petersburg. Russian authorities have announced that a total of 249 Ukrainian drones have been shot down over Russia during the night. No information has been confirmed yet, but hopefully, we will receive more information during the day, preferably about additional targets hit. Read more here.
Ukrainian commander Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, who leads Ukraine’s drone forces, reports that they have taken out over 8,776 Russian soldiers since the start of winter, and that Russian losses now exceed what Russia can replace. He believes this marks a turning point in the war, with the focus now on eliminating soldiers primarily rather than equipment. He also explains that a fully functioning “ecosystem” is required for drone operations to succeed. It’s not enough to have a skilled drone pilot; it requires a comprehensive system and resources that combine surveillance, electronic warfare, and attack capabilities. All missions are recorded and analyzed to quickly adapt tactics. Read more here.
Russian Losses in Ukraine
Once again, a day with more normal losses for KWIA. Were those three days of high losses possibly a one-time occurrence? Perhaps a sign of a Russian offensive attempt that quickly faltered? There is still talk of a larger Russian spring offensive on the way; we will see how that turns out. Right now, it feels equally likely that Ukraine will go on the offensive this time.
- 970 KWIA
- 1 Tank
- 5 AFVs
- 24 Artillery systems
- 1 MLRS
- 1999 UAVs
- 136 Vehicles and Fuel tanks

For those interested, there is a post with total Russian losses since the start of the war.
Russian Activities in Ukraine
A slightly lower number of combat encounters, which may explain the lower KWIA above, even though drones now seem to be the primary weapon. Unfortunately, many KABs and also many Russian suicide drones.
- 134 battles
- 67 air strikes
- 285 KABs
- 9,266 suicide drones
- 3,811 artillery attacks, including 57 from MLRS

Thank you MXT for your diligent work in reporting from Ukraine/Iran.
Primorsk was interesting. Fewer “shadow ships” in the Baltic Sea could be the result.
Strait of Hormuz: Here Iran really has a Trump card up its sleeve. I would guess that the “intelligence phenomenon” Trump declares victory before Easter and leaves the rest of the conflict in Europe’s lap.
Thank you for your contributions and for being a loyal visitor and commentator!!!
Yes, it is noticeable that Trump is trying to evade. The USA has the world’s largest military power and the fact that they are asking for help is hardly because they wouldn’t be able to handle it themselves if they really wanted to.
They want to avoid responsibility, losses, and skyrocketing costs.
It doesn’t look good for Trump when American soldiers are killed and what if Iran were to sink an American ship in the strait???
Then the debate in the USA has started to focus to some extent on the costs of the war, so he probably wants to get away with it as cheaply as possible.
He keeps talking about how the USA has supported NATO but it is rather predominantly other countries that have supported the USA.
Of course, it is in our own interest to open the strait, at the same time I can’t help but think that the USA and Israel should sort out this mess that they have put themselves in, and actually the whole world.
Extremely clumsy to start a war without coordinating at all with Europe or NATO countries and then come and ask for help… Sure, they wanted to keep it secret to gain an advantage, but then it doesn’t rhyme well with the fact that they started the war because the negotiations on nuclear weapons were not leading anywhere. If that had been the case, they would of course have first threatened with war and issued ultimatums, now they just attacked.
Ironically, Trump also tries to blame the war between Ukraine and Russia on Ukraine and argues that they should not have started a war when they have no cards. Ukraine was attacked by Russia. Here it is the USA that has attacked Iran. Since they are calling for help, how are the USA’s cards looking?
👍
Yes, the fact that they have attacked Primorsk is significant, and if they continue to do so, it will be a huge setback for Russia’s exports.
(Got caught up in thoughts about Trump so I forgot the most important part 😄).
Oil prices are rising slightly after Trump’s threat to attack Iran’s power plants.
Crude ~101
Brent ~113
Ural ~104.8 (Has dropped, but these numbers are from the 20th)
Oil prices have temporarily been higher than this before, but only temporarily. Considering the closing prices for the day, it is the highest so far.
Brent is the most important global price, and it is the price most of the seaborne oil is sold after, which is essentially the price Europe pays. Even though not all oil we buy is “Brent,” it is still the Brent price that governs.
In this case, Crude refers to WTI Crude, i.e., American oil, and Ural is, of course, Russia.
Do you mean temporarily higher in the near future during the current conflict?
When they were $150 per barrel in 2008, there was a short spike followed by $120 for about three years around 2010-2015. So we have endured $120 for a longer period.
Yes, I meant now during the Iran war. It was up to around 115-120 some days, but before closing, it had dropped back so it doesn’t show when looking at the charts afterwards. So even though it looks like it’s at its highest right now, it has actually been higher.
Yes, it’s true that we have had higher prices before and of course we will survive it, we will also survive at 200 USD/barrel if we end up there. It was rather mostly a high demand after the financial crisis that drove up prices. It was more of a natural development even though it also partly depended on capacity reductions in Libya and sanctions against Iran.
It’s just a shame that money that could go to more sensible things disappears in unnecessary costs. Especially if a certain part will now depend on real costs due to destroyed equipment, etc., which will delay the recovery.
An attack primarily by the Russians, not the opposite drone warfare, against advancing Russians.
The war against Iran is Europe’s. If Russia had not had support from partners like Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Syria, Venezuela, but perhaps most importantly from the former, Europe would not have had a war on its eastern flank. Ukraine would have already won in 2023. This according to Yuri Budanov, former head of the security apparatus that had the best insight into Russia throughout the war, including planning, preparations, and successful execution of the suppression of the Russian airborne forces at Hostomel Airport on the first day of the war (source: your own blog). Zelensky has also been clear that they consider the war against Iran necessary. All of this I have posted about here but like water 💦 off a duck’s 🪿 back, you continue to blindly criticize the US effort. Wouldn’t it have been better for Europe to be on alert from the beginning with the knowledge of the outcome of negotiations with the USA and Venezuela, and be ready with efforts? And the awareness of the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open. Then maybe there wouldn’t have been discussions for weeks before Europe finally steps up (according to last week’s announcement), and maybe the oil price would have already been at low levels, perhaps lower even before the war as Iran has also faced oil export sanctions.

“Hitler defeated Zielinski in French local election
The mayoral election in the northeastern French city of Arcis-sur-Aube has become a world sensation – because of the candidates’ names. Charles Hittler and Antoine Renault-Zielinski competed for power in the city with just over 2,800 inhabitants.
When the votes were counted on Sunday evening, it became clear that the independent incumbent mayor Charles Hittler is re-elected, writes Le Figaro.
Charles Hittler receives 40 percent of the votes and Zielinski ends up in third place.”

Unfortunately, it’s about the same with Coca Cola.
They say they have reduced their own brands, but at the same time they continue to sell, mainly the essences for production, both through the main brand and subsidiaries.
It’s been a while since I saw films from stores in Russia, but a year ago there also seemed to be no shortage of Coca Cola (or Pepsi, although Coca Cola seemed more common) in the stores (of course, it could have been faked too, but I don’t think so).
https://leave-russia.org/
Looks like a Swiss licensee, where Coca-Cola owns about 1/4. Swiss companies and sanctions against Russia and support for Ukraine are not always compatible. What about the American-based company and Russia?
Then there’s Pepsi on a completely different level when it comes to involvement in Russia, this has been the case for a long time.

📈📉”Ukraine’s defense forces thwart the Russian attacker’s plans
For four days this week, from March 17 to March 20, 2026, the intensity of the enemy’s offensive actions increased. The enemy attempted to break through our troops’ defense lines on several strategic directions simultaneously. Fierce battles took place along the entire front line. In total, the enemy carried out 619 storm attacks during these four days.
The occupiers concentrated their main attack on the directions of Pokrovsk and Oleksandrivsk, where the number of enemy attacks was highest. In particular, the enemy attacked our troops’ positions 163 times on the Pokrovsk direction and 96 times on the Oleksandrivsk direction.
The situation remained tense towards Kostiantynivka, where Russian troops carried out 84 storm attacks, as well as towards Ocheretyn, Lyman, and Kupiansk, where over 150 combat clashes occurred in total.
Despite immense pressure and the deployment of significant reserves, the Russian command failed to accomplish the set tasks.
Thanks to the professional and coordinated efforts of the Ukrainian soldiers, the enemy’s offensive was stopped on several fronts. Intense fighting is still ongoing in some parts of the front, but the enemy is forced to regroup its forces.
The occupiers are trying to reinforce with new units and prepare for further attacks, focusing on deteriorating weather conditions that, according to their perception, should reduce the effectiveness of the Ukrainian aerial reconnaissance service and hinder the operation of our drone systems and artillery.
The Russian military leadership has thrown tens of thousands of soldiers into “meat grinder” assaults, but the price for this offensive attempt has proven to be catastrophic for the attacker. During four days of intense assaults, the enemy has lost over 6,090 soldiers, dead and wounded. The enemy’s total losses for the week amounted to approximately 8,710 dead and severely injured.
The defense forces also destroyed a significant amount of the enemy’s military equipment and weapons.
We were prepared for the escalation of the Russian horde’s attacks, so we made necessary command decisions. The troops were reinforced and supplied with military equipment, weapons, and ammunition.
At the same time, I want to emphasize that the successful resistance to the enemy’s massive attacks was made possible above all thanks to the courage and endurance of every soldier who carries out their combat missions and holds their positions under these extremely difficult conditions.
Just like four years ago, at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian defenders have demonstrated their superiority on the battlefield. In some fronts, our soldiers have taken the initiative and carried out their own active efforts using a tactic of active defense.
I thank the soldiers who have resisted the enemy’s pressures, held the established lines, and continue to liberate Ukrainian territory from the invaders.
Among others, I extend my sincere thanks to the 82nd and 95th separate airborne and assault brigades, the 3rd, 5th, and 92nd separate assault brigades, the 1st, 33rd, 225th, 425th, and 475th separate assault regiments in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the 4th and 14th separate brigades for operational tasks in the Ukrainian National Guard, and other combat units defending and fighting the enemy.
Honor to Ukraine!”

Many films are being shot in Iran so progress is being made there.
Has Trump grown tired of the Iran war?
The stomach has, in which Trump has voter base.
”The former vice president, who has long been an advocate for a strong American deterrent weapon worldwide, emphasized that ”around this administration, and to some extent within it, there have been increasingly strong voices demanding that the USA should withdraw from its role as leader of the free world. Isolationist voices have gained ground in certain parts of the Republican Party.”
”But fortunately, President Trump turned a deaf ear to these voices last year when he struck against Iran, and this year, when he initiated Operation Epic Fury”, Pence emphasized. ”I think it is very honorable of him.”
Pence argued that it ”reflects where the overwhelming majority of Republicans stand. Republicans understand that America is the arsenal of democracy, that we are leaders of the free world, that we have a duty to lead.”
And referring to his former boss during Trump’s first administration, Pence said: ”I have told people many times that I am proud of President Trump for making the decision to initiate Operation Epic Fury. But I am not surprised, because the president I serve is not an isolationist.”
Mike Pence in an interview with Fox News
Trump is now backing off on the attacks against Iran for five days, as they seem to be engaging in talks with Iran. Time will tell if there is any substance in this or if it’s just the usual Taco regarding deadlines. But it’s good for the stock markets, and just the same handling as usual…..
Similar to Venezuela, it is preferable to opt for a voluntary retreat that still achieves the same as a military solution. In Venezuela, political prisoners have been released without a single shot being fired since Maduro was removed.
And what can the release of political prisoners lead to (besides them likely becoming low-wage slaves for Trump at his Maga di Lago)?
It became a TACO as an unusually wise dinosaur predicted while being carried by a walker. 😎
