Oh, all of Kherson in one go… have they already sneaked out the VDV or is it all about the ferry camps now and HIMARS?
There has been a lot going on here and the guess has been that they tried to sneak out the VDV.
But to give up the city of Kherson, it had defensive potential… could it have been the VDV who refused or did they need troops for other fronts?
Historically, the Russians give up a front section when it becomes untenable along the entire line and here it was the best troops of the war sitting and hanging out in a muddy hole.
There are many Ukrainian brigades that can now be freed up but the density of Russian defense also increases the smaller the area becomes, if they manage to retreat, operation swim ring is what we’ve been waiting for so long that they almost owe us that spectacle.

I have to admit that the Russians are quite good at retreating… we have long considered Kherson lost and operation swim ring but one thought it would come in two steps and under high pressure.
Now they are almost running ahead of the optimists. I don’t think this offensive was 10 Ukrainian brigades forward. They had some mechanized companies against Beryslav and threw themselves over Snihurivka so this was definitely a preemptive retreat with very long foresight and that is very un-Russian.
Does Hypnopad have less to say?
Did the VDV choose themselves?
Has the VDV already been smuggled out?
Now this is probably not the last word here because the units still on the wrong side should try to get to relative freedom with the Russian team and Ukraine should reasonably not slow down now unless the Russians used Khakovka and Enerhodar for safe passage which would have been very Russian, and then try to blow up anyway and fail 🙂

If I may join in, I have imagined the retreat from Kherson as the day Ukraine goes all in with exactly everything, every plane, army aviation, HIMARS and tank to cut the columns of swim-hungry Russians.
If that happens, the density will definitely not be higher but we have also suspected that they have tried to sneak out the VDV for some time now.
On topic, the Russians have no defense against HIMARS, 777, drones etc. so yes, there will just be more targets to take out 🙂

It just struck me that we no longer talk about Russian offensives – it is Russian defense and retreat now and their attacks are part of defense.
For the blue team, we have gone from defense and “pinpricks where they can” to talking about offensives and when they will retake their country.
It has crept up a bit but very encouraging that Ukraine is beating the paddling backs red wherever they spot them in the muddy holes.
What is the Russian team going to do now?
Now they can only move all weapons to the next front section and clear around and in the near future NS supply route outside Ukraine’s border will probably be cut when the Russians abandon northern Luhansk.
Is it time for the chess move?
It’s not fun being a freezing Russian in a mud-filled hole, you have to stand there knee-deep in mud, cut slowly with your eyes and follow incoming with your gaze and really save the last sip of cheap vodka you have in your water bottle.

Now I’m starting to catch up in the Twitter feed, IF this is a war trick it is the worst in history because every muddy Russian in a hole is sitting watching Shoigu’s speech and looking desperately around for a swim ring right now.
If it is communication to get ahead of a front collapse and the muddy Russian in a hole is in bad shape so they try to dress up the Russian bear, then that retreat will provide material for Russian-fail videos on YouTube for years to come and Tannenberg will be a great victory in comparison. You can hardly give Ukraine better communication to go all in?
If the decision was made earlier but communicated only now, they have probably been sneaking out the VDV for a while and are ready to sacrifice LPR/DPR and newly mobilized just to be able to say they are retreating before it becomes breaking news.
Don’t know what’s worse and of course hope for a flailing Russian on a punctured swim ring over the Dnieper.

Snihurivka is definitely due, earlier reports said the Russians had retreated but that was not true.
the main road straight into Kherson is tricky, the fields of fire are a bit too good but you can probably sneak into Chornobovaika which was abandoned earlier as Gregg writes (due to too accurate shelling?) and take over the fortifications with infantry?
From there you should then enter the city of Kherson itself (if you want to…) which won’t be the easiest.
If the Russian team doesn’t put on their swim rings and jump into the Dnieper, the most reasonable thing would be to encircle the city and then have SOF assassination patrols work at night and lob guided munitions onto every target they find?
-this keeps losses down compared to a full-scale storming of the city.
