More combined heat and power has been procured, and Oskarshamn and something else would probably increase capacity.
It’s a bit boring though that the Vietnamese are sitting in heated houses from our combined heat and power plant…
Then the French nuclear power has probably ramped up again, the Germans haven’t shut down the last one, and the Finnish reactor is on its way.

There’s not much that can be done in the existing house; the walls are about half a meter thick concrete and insulation is in the attic as it should be. Double glazing in the windows will have to wait until next summer (thanks to the thread), and on some windows I’ll probably put a fixed third pane – but… houses like this must not become too airtight, the windows serve a ventilating function. I know that when we lived in Scotland in old stone houses, when the wave of new insulated windows came, it instead caused a wave of mold.
Had to go with district heating but there’s a lead time on that, so winter will be what it will be 🙂
Sure, you get a bit tempted when you read about smart homes on the electricity company’s website, but I’m not so naive that I don’t understand that the geothermal heat pump in the basement is too old and that the house’s by far largest cost is heating, so that’s what needs to be made more efficient; making the other 5000 kWh or so more efficient doesn’t do much overall.
However, something that has emerged as highly interesting is solar panels now that you can sell back during the sun season?
The other thing could be batteries/storage so you can manage overnight, and that will probably come as well.
But with district heating, you probably don’t get the same bang for the buck.

If the electricity price can just stay around one krona, it’s probably okay for most people; so far it looks promising with filled gas storage, filled reservoirs, and falling futures. If you can have an okay temperature and a bill that is “a little higher,” that’s probably fine. It’s 17 degrees indoors and a bill of 15,000 SEK that would feel sad every morning when you have to get up.
If there is a January spike in electricity prices, some cable to the continent will probably go down when a desperate homeowner and father of small children drives an anchor across the cable ditches with a rented sailboat.
