I read about an enterprising greenhouse farmer in Finland who used to have a 50,000 EUR electricity bill per month but got a 300,000 EUR electricity bill and was forced to shut down the entire operation.
The Enforcement Authority announced a few weeks ago that cases of unpaid electricity bills from private individuals and companies are skyrocketing.
After all, it’s been over two years since the price went from 20-30 öre/kWh to 2.69 SEK/kWh at worst. One such month is probably enough for some small electricity-intensive industry to wipe out the year’s profit, and the month after it’s game over. Hedging prices has probably also been unreasonably expensive with soaring long-term contracts?
