Right now, all calculations are out the window for most families, I think. This income – expense balance that is always discussed – it seems no longer to apply.
I know people in the area who emptied their savings accounts to afford the electricity bills this past winter.
The debt level is probably not high here but the margins have been low and now inflation, soaring electricity prices, and weaker demand – layoffs – are rolling in like a wet blanket over everything.
If you have a fun job and an apartment in Södermalm with district heating, maybe you haven’t felt it yet, and that utterly disgusting – “maybe a crisis is good because then the middle class stops overconsuming” – I’ve heard more than once in the past year…
I think many are on the edge and it will probably get worse throughout 2023 and maybe 2024 as well?
It’s sad when a family with two working parents who just wanted to live and were within all calculations for low risk crash lands completely. A bad grade for several governments who, instead of governing the country, have played government, all of them.
