At least two dead in Russian terror attacks on Kyiv – Russian losses

Putin celebrates his 74th birthday with massive attacks on Kyiv where at least two have been reported killed.
Several explosions were heard in Kyiv around 03:15 and Ukraine’s air force had earlier warned that several Russian Tu-95 bombers were approaching the border.
“The missiles fall one after another. At least 10-12 explosions from what I can count. It’s quite loud in the city center,” described Tim Zadorozhnyy from Kyiv Independent. Other journalists from Kyiv Independent described attacks around Kyiv’s Podil district with flames and smoke visible in the capital.
Explosions were heard again two hours later at 05:15 in the middle of a second wave of missile attacks.

Other parts of the country were also affected, a cruise missile hit a residential building in Kremenchuk in the Poltava region. In Zaporizhzhia, it is reported that transport infrastructure has been damaged.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier in the day urged everyone to take air raid alarms seriously as he warned that Russia was preparing a large-scale attack on Ukraine. “Please, please, take care of yourselves. Please respond to missile danger signals,” he said.

Ukrainian General Staff morning report

Operational information as of 08:00 on October 7, 2026, regarding the Russian invasion

The 1687th day of the Russian Federation’s full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine has begun.

During the last day, a total of 202 combat contacts were registered.
Yesterday, the enemy conducted 85 airstrikes, including with 278 guided aerial bombs. Additionally, the attackers used 9,728 kamikaze drones and carried out 2,521 shellings against communities and our troops’ positions.

In the Sumy region, the communities of Ulanove, Pysarivka, Khrapivshchyna, Seredyna-Buda, Korchakivka, Hirky, and Volfyne were subjected to hostile artillery fire. The area around Khrapivshchyna was also targeted by airstrikes.

During the last day, the defense forces’ air units, missile units, and artillery struck an area with a concentration of enemy personnel and a command post for unmanned aerial vehicles.

In the northern Slobozhanskyi sector, the attackers launched three assaults in the areas around Bachivsk, Rivne, and Volfyne.

In the southern Slobozhanskyi sector, Ukrainian units repelled 11 enemy attacks. The occupiers attempted to advance in the areas around Volokhivka, Starytsia, Izbytske, Zakharivka, Mala Vovcha, and Varvarivka.

In the Kupiansk sector, the enemy attacked once in the area around Kivsharivka.

Attempts to advance were stopped in the Lyman sector, where our defenders repelled eight attacks in the areas around Novomykhailivka, Nadiia, Stavky, Novoselivka, and Lyman.

In the Kramatorsk sector, Ukrainian soldiers repelled two enemy attacks in the area around Minkivka.

In the Kostyantynivka sector, 14 attacks were registered. The occupiers conducted storming operations in the areas around Kostyantynivka, Novoselivka, Mykolaipillia, and Osykove.

In the Pokrovsk sector, our defenders stopped 27 attacks. The enemy concentrated their main efforts in the areas around Serhiivka and Molodetske and also conducted assaults towards Kucheriv Yar, Vilne, Bilytske, Vodianske, Dobropillia, and Novohrishyne.

In the Huljajpole sector, 13 enemy attacks were repelled in the areas around Hirke, Rybne, Vozdvyzhivka, Dolynka, Rivne, Kopani, Yehorivka, Novoselivka, and Charivne.

In the Orikhiv sector, our defenders repelled two enemy attacks in the areas around Stepnohirsk and Plavni.

In the Sloviansk, Oleksandrivka, and Prydniprovsk sectors, the enemy conducted no active operations during the last day.

In the Volyn and Polissya sectors, the situation remains largely unchanged. No signs have been detected that the enemy is forming offensive force groupings.

The Ukrainian defenders continue the systematic fight against the enemy, effectively resisting on all front sectors and inflicting significant losses on the occupiers.

In total, the Russian attackers’ losses during the last day amounted to 1,690 personnel. Additionally, four armored combat vehicles, 51 artillery systems, eight rocket artillery systems, two air defense systems, 12 ground-based missile systems, 1,890 unmanned aerial vehicles, two heavy flamethrower systems, 577 vehicles, and five units of special equipment were neutralized.
