The Russian oil refinery in Kstovo is burning after a Ukrainian drone attack – Russian losses etc.

The Russian NORSI (or Lukoil-Nizhegorodorgsintez refinery) in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod oblast caught fire overnight according to reports from several media channels. The NORSI refinery is Russia’s fourth largest oil refinery and second largest gasoline producer, processing about 15–17 million tons of crude oil annually. It also produces bitumen, as well as diesel and aviation fuel used to support Russian forces. The refinery is located about 800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. Read more at Kyiv Independent.

Ukraine has attacked the facility several times, including a confirmed attack on August 26 that triggered a large fire. NORSI suspended operations due to damage sustained in that attack.

A Russian airstrike destroyed the Kramatorsk city council building. The building, located at Peace Square in central Kramatorsk, survived the city’s occupation by Russian-backed militants in 2014 and its subsequent liberation by Ukrainian forces.

“An hour ago Russia destroyed the central building of the Ukrainian state formation in Kramatorsk with an airstrike,” wrote Oleksandr Honcharenko, head of the city’s military administration. Honcharenko described the building as a symbol of the city’s history and identity.
“They can destroy a building, burn our land, and steal our memories. But they cannot destroy our right to a future,” he wrote.

The building had previously been damaged during a Russian airstrike on the city center in March 2026.

Glory to Ukraine!
The 1712th day of the Russian Federation’s full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine has begun.

The Ukrainian defenders continue the systematic combat against the enemy, effectively resisting on all front sections and inflicting significant losses on the occupiers.

In the Sumy region, the communities of Mala Korchakivka, Zapsillia, Yunakivka, Pysarivka, Korchakivka, Mala Sich, Katerynivka, Pavlivka, Khotin, and Vodolahy were subjected to artillery shelling. Additionally, the areas around Kyianytsia, Ivolzhanske, and Pysarivka in the Sumy region were targeted by airstrikes.

In the northern Slobozhansky section, the attackers launched seven assaults in the areas around Bachivsk, Tovstodubove, Korenok, Ulanove, and Korchakivka.

In the southern Slobozhansky section, Ukrainian units repelled 13 enemy attacks. The occupiers attempted to advance in the areas around Ternova, Starytsia, and Radkivka as well as towards Zakharivka and Volokhivske.

In the Kupyansk section, the enemy conducted no storming operations during the past day.

In the Lyman section, ten enemy attempts to advance were stopped in the areas around Kopanky, Chervonyi Stav, Shyikivka, Lyman, Zarichne, and Donetske.

In the Sloviansk section, the attackers carried out four attacks in the areas around Ozerne, Yampil, and Pyskunivka.

In the Orikhiv section, our defenders repelled two enemy attacks in the area around Pavlivka.

In the Prydniprovsk section, no active enemy operations were recorded.

In the Volyn and Polissya sections, the situation remains largely unchanged. No signs have been detected that the enemy is forming offensive force groupings.

Every day we hold our positions and drive the occupiers from our land, while defending our homes, our families, and Ukraine’s future.

Join the defense forces! Together we will win! Glory to Ukraine!

Comment:
120 localized attacks out of a total of 264 leaves 144 unlocalized, giving a ratio of 144 / 120 ≈ 1.20.

Note by the way the low number of drones. The second lowest in our data if we exclude the day when none were reported at all. It has been quite windy the past few days, which may have made drone use difficult, possibly affecting both Russian losses and Russian usage.

    1. Yes, and so obviously fake. Haven’t heard anything about anyone actually making it to Järva. There can’t have been any large-scale demonstration anyway. 😂

  1. Reply to Johan in yesterday’s thread.
“MXT, didn’t you say the protests would die down?”

What I wrote earlier this week concerned the school protests in France, and I said that I believed they would be over within a few weeks. I also wrote that this weekend would probably be chaotic as well.

It has actually already decreased significantly.
The first weekend there were about 550,000 demonstrators and over 2,600 arrests.
Yesterday it is estimated to be about 320,000 and there were preliminarily between 500-600 arrests.

Then I wrote that it is not entirely impossible that other groups might appear in France to start demonstrating, including a trade union that plans to go on strike this week.

I also did not say anything about other countries (such as Germany, where things got out of hand yesterday).

So you’ll have to wait a few weeks before you can determine whether I was right or wrong. 😉

    1. “At least five police officers were injured during last night’s demonstrations in France, according to Le Monde. Three of them were reportedly attacked with improvised incendiary bombs.

One of the police officers, who was slightly injured, told BFMTV that he “escaped the disaster by a narrow margin”.

Video footage from last night’s protests in Paris shows an incendiary bomb hitting the ground near the police, whose clothes caught fire.

      – I did not see it coming, which makes it even harder to handle and protect myself against. You can’t keep track of everything and the rain of projectiles is constant, says the police officer.”

“Hundreds of thousands of people have protested against the high cost of living and the unequal education system in France during the night, according to French media.

According to Le Monde, the protests were mostly peaceful, although smaller groups during the evening and night got into violent confrontations with the police.

Several police officers and demonstrators were reportedly injured.

      – It is no longer about managing authorized demonstrations, but about managing small groups that constantly try to break through police barricades in order to loot and commit acts of violence, says the French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez.”

    2. “The so-called ”Gen Z protests” that were organized across Germany on Saturday escalated in several places during the night, German media report.

In Frankfurt, the protests remained calm for a long time, but in the evening there were reports of smashed shop windows, looting, and firecrackers thrown at police officers. The police state on X that Molotov cocktails were thrown at the emergency services. Reports of violent incidents during the protests also come from Berlin, Cologne, and Hamburg.

The protests coincided with Halloween, and an image of a person dressed as Batman posing in front of burning trash bins in central Frankfurt has gained wide circulation this morning.

The organizers have called for peaceful protests and on Saturday condemned ”all forms of violence”, writes Süddeutsche Zeitung. The demonstrators are demanding, among other things, more resources for schools and addiction care.”

      1. “molotov cocktails thrown at the emergency services” – there the line has been crossed where I consider the use of force by the police to be completely justified.

        1. Partly agree but the problem is that it can be very difficult to be sure that you are hitting exactly those who have crossed the line and not other ordinary demonstrators who are in the same crowd.

But tear gas, rubber bullets, and water cannons feel justified, and aimed fire at the legs in cases where it can be done safely against the right perpetrators.

Molotov cocktails are probably considered murder weapons, so it would be classified as self-defense.

      2. “That demonstrators threw improvised incendiary bombs at police officers during the demonstrations in Paris was an attempted murder. This is stated by the prosecutor’s office and Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez in a statement about the night’s violence, French media report.

The images and videos showing how one of the bombs explodes right next to several police officers have been widely circulated in the country. One of the police officers’ legs caught fire. He tells Franceinfo that the demonstrators wanted to “cause serious injuries” to the patrols.

        – I have burns on my leg, it caught fire completely.”

  2. ** More photos from Kstovo, Russia, showing the scale of last night’s massive Ukrainian drone attack on the Lukoil oil refinery. Usually, footage from refinery strikes shows one or two fires. This time, we can see what appear to be at least 7–8 separate points of fire, possibly even more. **

      1. Nice to see, but hadn’t Ukraine promised to keep this up until after the midterm elections in the USA?

The Russian diesel that is being shipped over doesn’t seem to be wanted/dared to be bought by anyone since it is illegal regardless of what the president says. So from a PR perspective, it is incredibly easy to debunk the connection between Ukraine and high diesel prices.

  3. ** Ukraine never agreed to pause strikes on Russian refineries, sources confirm

Ukraine’s campaign targeting Russian oil refineries is ongoing, Ukrainian officials told the Kyiv Independent, rejecting reports that Kyiv had agreed to suspend the strikes.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Oct. 29, citing people familiar with the operations, that Ukraine had agreed to a “pause” in attacks on Russian oil refineries.

According to the report, the pause was expected to remain in place until after the U.S. midterm elections, potentially extending into November. The WSJ also claimed the decision followed intense political pressure from the Trump administration. … **

  4. Off-Topic, the war in Iran

“Donald Trump is once again opening up for new attacks against Iran, reports AFP.

    – We still need to take out, I would say one or two facilities, but we can do that in ten minutes, says the president.

Donald Trump has previously said that he will not attack Iran before the midterm elections on Tuesday.

Yesterday, Iran warned that new attacks against the country will be responded to.”

  5. Off-Topic, the attack on Binance

Time to shut North Korea off from the Internet…?

“North Korea was behind this week’s historic cyberattack on the cryptocurrency exchange Binance, where assets worth the equivalent of 62 billion SEK were stolen. This is reported by the FBI, according to Reuters.

Hackers from the country have been seen laundering the stolen assets by converting them into the cryptocurrency ethereum, according to the FBI.

Earlier on Saturday, Binance stated that 90 percent of the losses have been covered through repurchasing equivalent assets. The cyber heist is the largest in the history of cryptocurrencies, Bloomberg writes.”

  8. ** Rubio Doubts Ukraine Peace Deal Before Spring 2027
In brief: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio does not believe Russian President Vladimir Putin will agree to any peace settlement regarding Ukraine before spring 2027. Speaking at the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in Atlanta, Rubio rejected claims that a deal is imminent and characterized near-term NATO membership for Ukraine as unrealistic. Rubio has also cast doubt on whether Putin will attend the G20 leaders’ summit in Miami on Dec. 14-15 despite receiving a White House invitation. **

    – Of course he would.

He also falsely claims that Russia has never said no to peace talks with Ukraine.

Negotiations between the US, Russia, and Ukraine are progressing slowly. The American Secretary of State Marco Rubio says that this weekend’s G20 meeting in Atlanta did not lead to any progress related to the war.

    – I don’t think anyone here claims that we are approaching a negotiated agreement.

The Ukrainian government also does not see that Russia would want to agree to a deal.

  14. Off-Topic, midterm election:

Can one guess that if the Democrats win, we will see endless legal processes that will continue until the next election..? 😄

“Donald Trump appears to have entered a new phase in the election campaign, with only a couple of days left before the polls open, reports the Washington Post.

The newspaper writes that the president and the Department of Justice have now increased the number of complaints and investigations, which provides opportunities to question the election results.

Recently, the Department of Justice has, among other things, tried to get the state of California to set aside about 20,000 votes that the administration claims come from non-American citizens.

In addition, the department wants Alaska to wait to certify the results if the Democratic candidate wins. In Washington, a legal attempt is underway to invalidate votes from hundreds of voters.

    – Much of what we see is really just outbursts of anger, says Sam Oliker-Friedland, who previously worked on voting rights issues at the department.”

    1. Endless investigations into impeaching Trump?

Pretty unproductive if you ask me. Regardless of the winner, there will be lots of legal wrangling, which is unfortunate when there are real problems to address.

      1. No, not like that.

I mean that Trump and the Republicans will start an endless number of investigations into alleged election fraud to delay the election results if things don’t go their way.

      2. Now, it is probably the Krasnov administration that will not accept a defeat and will do everything to question the result, etc., as intended. But in any case, the Democrats will probably try not only to impeach him but actually also to get him convicted.

  15. Under the month of October, 54,400 Russian soldiers were killed or injured in the war against Ukraine. The figures come from the Ukrainian General Staff, which states that October 2026 is the bloodiest for the Russian army since the invasion in February 2022. Over 54,000 killed or injured is about 8,000 more than was reported last month. “Every month the war becomes more costly for Russia,” writes the General Staff. Neither Ukraine nor Russia publish statistics on losses on their own side.

  22. It can calm down MXT if governments crack down hard on this, have integrity, and are politically strong.

Unfortunately, all trade unions are involved in this together, along with various grassroots movements, and the media has a penchant for condemning police violence.

So part of Russia’s plan is to provoke violent police and then get going with a “fascist police” narrative. That has already started, but right now the focus is on scaring people with mob violence so that citizens become terrified, then the far right will come out, and finally the damn religious.

The line is extremely thin to try to balance here, and we will probably fail for the simple reason that the entire Russian state-supported subversive operations apparatus is working towards this now.

Then, for example, Mélenchon’s left party with 15% of the votes in France will come out like a fury against fascist police violence and create even more chaos and deadlocks.

It may happen that those who are currently the opposition in Sweden behave properly when our police are seen assaulting Palestinian demonstrators and the youths participating in the riots because they understand that this is a serious situation – we simply have to wait and see.

    —

Now it seems that the Social Democrats have lost their chance here in the government formation because the Moderates with Ulf at the head will get a third vote, and then the Centre Party with ETR will join a new Tidö agreement as long as the Sweden Democrats stay outside, which SD have now hinted at because they understand that train has left.

S’s strategy seems to be to wait until the fourth vote has completely failed.

I went through this with myself and came to the conclusion that if the Speaker maneuvered so that the Moderates got the last vote, it would not have been entirely fair and that it would have become Magdalena. Then whether the Moderates got 2 or 3 votes I didn’t think much about, but I think the Centre Party can well have a vote because they have been central in this.

That means that the Left Party, the Green Party, and the Social Democrats have laid their cards on the table and must accept their fate; they simply failed to form a government, which no living person outside these parties can be held responsible for.

Since they have already been shouting about the “Nazi government” for almost four years, will they then calm down when the police very soon need to become tough?

Because on the day when Tidö agreement 2.0 is voted in, Russia will activate student protests under another country’s flag also in Sweden, you can be 100% certain of that. The chaos is only weeks away.

    1. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone scream Nazi government..?

Personally, I don’t think we will see the same type of demonstrations here as down in Europe, but we’ll see how it goes.

      1. Well 😀

“Threat to democracy” you have heard a couple of times, which means that they are undemocratic.

Then the word fascist has been flying around quite a bit, and before the election campaign, weren’t 12 ministers from SD a threat?

Brown-right you have also heard quite a bit, and that does not refer to the Tidö Agreement having a large number of non-white elected officials as far as I know?

“This is how it started in the 30s” has also been flying around.

This one also has strong words about another Tidö Agreement.

      1. Was it really a victory for the Social Democrats? Four parties agree on the Sweden Democrats, immigration, and the environment. Is that really enough? Obviously not.

      2. Yes, it seems so but of course anything can happen.

You probably hit the nail on the head, Maggan too, because IF they manage to unite to vote for Magdalena, how good a government will we then have for four years?

    2. “Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) receives higher trust than the Social Democrats’ party leader Magdalena Andersson in a new survey from Indikator Opinion/SR.

Over half, 55 percent, state that they have great trust in Kristersson. In the previous survey, the same figure was 45.

Opinion chief Per Oleskog Tryggvason says that the shift is dramatic.

      – During the term, Magdalena Andersson has consistently been at the top when it comes to the trust league.”

    3. I passed Tirana on October 22 (in the morning, in the afternoon-evening the center was closed around Skanderbeg Square). Riot police eating lunch by burned-down kiosks and bus stops. That protest started when Jared Kushner and his wife Ivanka Trump were allowed to buy a protected island, but has since turned to resemble the protests in other countries. As a curiosity, Håkan Juholt was there…

      1. I am deliberately not including Albania in this, nor Serbia because those are protests against Russia or the USA 😀

I am also keeping quiet about Poland until they have gotten their act together.

    4. “Convicted Nazi part of Swedish guard – on site in Paris

To suppress protests • “We are tired of what is happening in Europe” • Contact with French hooligans

Two men with criminal backgrounds have created an action group to travel to France.

The purpose is to violently suppress the ongoing protests.
Among the group is a leading NMR activist who has previously been convicted of weapons offenses, according to TV4 News’ investigation.
“Hell victory!” shouts a member of the Swedish group in a video from Paris.”

      1. Yep, they are also included in the package.

Now the far right will be set against the far left all over Europe.

After that, the damn religious ones will come when some mosques have burned and some caricatures of Mohammed have been pasted on the mosque doors.

  23. ** 🇨🇳🇺🇦🤔 Xi Jinping does not plan to discuss Ukraine with Trump and Putin This was stated by German President, who recently met with the head of China in Beijing. “In his opinion, there are currently no signs of preparations for a summit on Ukraine with the participation of the US, Russia and China… He clearly emphasized that this is a European conflict, and Europeans should also be present at the negotiating table.”**

    1. Xi is probably quite smart in his actions and does not want to upset the EU more than necessary for anything in the world. China is dependent on the European export market.

They spent years under Russian occupation, months without access to basic necessities. Today, they can once again feel what it means to be free. It is vital that humanitarian access to Oleshky remains open so that more civilians can receive the help they need. **

The shipping company has previously been suspected of involvement in Russian intelligence/hybrid operations, maintains a representation in Kaliningrad, and the crew consists of Russian citizens according to the channel’s sources (police declined to comment on nationality). Spokesperson Carina Skagerlind confirmed that officers boarded the vessel and checked the crew’s documents as part of routine border police checks, stating that everything was in order. **

  26. More and more GPS disruptions at sea – navigating with radar and lighthouses

Increased significantly • “You think you are a hundred meters away, but you are on a collision course”

Disruptions in satellite navigation are a growing problem in the Baltic Sea and along Sweden’s coasts.

When GPS signals are knocked out, traditional aids at sea become more important.
    – Yes, since lighthouses are a visual and physical tool that is not affected by GPS disruptions, they still have an important function, says Jill Wake, property manager at the Swedish Maritime Administration.

  27.  Sweden’s reserve of soldiers is shrinking – jeopardizing defense capability

Sweden urgently needs more reserve soldiers. But the trend is moving in the opposite direction. For several years, the Armed Forces’ personnel reserve has decreased – because soldiers have not received their refresher training.
To be able to handle war and losses, the Armed Forces have a personnel reserve of trained conscripts. Soldiers from this reserve should be able to reinforce the defense where needed.

According to a government inquiry, the reserve is already too small today and needs to grow quickly.

How many are in the reserve is secret. But a government bill shows that it is steadily decreasing. So much so that it jeopardizes defense capability.

  28. ** For years, the Kremlin has portrayed Russia’s actions in Donbas as an effort to “liberate” the region and “protect” its residents. However, in a recent broadcast, prominent pro-Kremlin blogger Maksim Shevchenko challenged this narrative. ” – The Donbas did rise up. I was there. I saw it with my own eyes. The thing is, this uprising was crushed. – By whom? – By Moscow.” ** Video:

  29. Off-Topic, the formation of government

If Uffe fails and Magdalena were to get the last chance, it probably won’t be possible to form any government basis. The Left Party would rather see a Tidö Agreement 2.0 than give in.

“The Left Party’s demand to be part of the government remains, writes vice chairman Ida Gabrielsson on X. She states that it is “completely wasted” to try to get the party to back down and that “the door is completely closed”.

“We vote red in all votes where we are not part of the government. The question is whether C will do that, since they would then have to go to a snap election without being able to make a deal with either of the two existing majorities?”, she writes in response to a question from a follower.

Gabrielsson has been active on both social media and in traditional media after the election. But recently, it has been quiet from the party leadership.”

    1. By the way, I checked what legal powers the Speaker actually has considering that he forced the vote on Elisabeth.

He is only obliged to consult but decides entirely on his own. Theoretically, he could propose a vote on a candidate he knows no one wants, then propose the same candidate four times in a row and thereby force a new election.

So, the fact that he assigns someone to probe opinions does not count, and he does not have to propose a vote on that particular person either.

Just as he could easily ensure that a re-election (or snap election, as it is actually called) takes place, he could instead delay the process all the way until the next election if he wanted to. If he does not propose anyone to vote on, nothing happens either.

There is not even any time pressure, so if he wants a caretaker government for four years, he can make sure that happens.

Regarding the laws, we have assumed that the Speaker really does what is best and fairest based on the election results, but there are not actually many rules governing his work.

      1. Pretty cool that we basically have an autocrat now then. Admittedly without legislative power, but still.

The choice of speaker now seems significantly more important after you clarified this. Today’s lesson, thanks MXT.

  30. Off-Topic, the election in Israel

“Israel’s opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot is exploring the possibilities of forming a minority government, sources tell Ynet. The plan is to gain indirect support from both the Arab party Ra’am and the ultra-Orthodox Jewish party UTJ. If the two parties, along with the Joint List, abstain from voting, Eisenkot’s government would receive more yes votes than no votes.

The idea after that is that Ra’am and UTJ will support Eisenkot’s government in the long term, while the Joint List will not be part of such a cooperation. The party is only expected to allow the government to pass, not support it once it is in place.

But there are several obstacles to overcome if such a government is to become a reality. The biggest concerns Avigdor Liberman, who leads Eisenkot’s most important coalition partner, has promised not to join a government backed by ultra-Orthodox or Arab parties.”

  31. ** In October, our Defense Forces of Ukraine inflicted record losses on the enemy and recaptured more territory than the Russian occupiers managed to seize. In just one month, Russia lost 54,400 troops killed or badly wounded. This is a record for any month of the full-scale war. There was also a record for daily losses – the Russian army lost 2,250 troops on October 21. Importantly, we continue to reclaim what is ours. In October, the Defense Forces liberated 96.2 square kilometers of Ukrainian land, which is 10.4 square kilometers more than the occupiers managed to capture during that time. We thank all our defenders, all our warriors, every brigade, and every unit for this important result for our country. Russia is suffering losses. We are holding our positions, liberating territory, and making every day of the war as costly as possible for the aggressor. To stop these insane losses, all Russia needs to do is choose a ceasefire and diplomacy. **

“Andreas Almgren won the New York Marathon – he beat the Italian Yemaneberhan Crippa – who was one of those who tried to keep up with his pace the longest. However, Crippa was forced to give up in the end. The time became the fourth fastest time in the race’s history. 2:06:01 was the winning time – four seconds from the Swedish record.

16 runners were for a long time gathered in a pack but the lead crystallized with a few kilometers left and then Almgren proved unbeatable.

According to Ukrainian battlefield reports, Ukrainian units successfully pushed Russian forces back from positions in the area. The extent of the advance and the current frontline remain unverified. 🔥 The railway station area is an important part of Kostiantynivka’s urban landscape, where control of buildings and surrounding positions can influence local defensive operations. In Oleschky, people had a free choice for the first time. For years, the Kremlin has hammered in the lie about the supposedly liberated population longing to return to the Russian fatherland. But when the bus doors opened, people grabbed their children, wrapped themselves in blankets, hugged frightened pets close, and chose the way back to Ukrainian soil. Those who have experienced the horrors of occupation firsthand do not flee to the regime that destroyed their lives. 40. WARNING!!!

** 🇺🇦🇷🇺 TWO CIVILIANS FLEEING UNDER A WHITE FLAG KILLED BY A RUSSIAN SOLDIER Two Ukrainian civilians attempting to escape under a white flag were killed by a Russian soldier. Their dog was also killed. A white flag is a visible signal of peaceful intent. Civilians fleeing danger are protected under international humanitarian law, regardless of which side controls the territory.

The incident raises serious questions about accountability for Russian forces and the protection of civilians. Meanwhile, Trump, Witkoff and Musk have faced criticism over their public positions concerning Russia and the war.

Whatever diplomatic approach Washington chooses, the killing of fleeing civilians cannot be treated as a secondary concern. Any serious effort to end this war must confront the violence being inflicted on the people trying to survive it. **

  50. Off-Topic, the war in Iran

“Last night, US President Donald Trump threatened new acts of war against Iran. But the reaction from Iranians is lukewarm, writes AFP. The news agency has spoken with two ordinary citizens in Tehran who just shrug at the statement.– There is nothing I can do about it, says a 27-year-old healthcare worker.– We are not afraid of war. We have been at war for 48 years. We are always at war, said a 48-year-old salesman. On Sunday, the Iranian regime also commented on the threat. Mohammad Akraminia, spokesperson for the military, said that the war against the US could be prolonged.– The American president is not in a position to dictate the course of events or the conditions, he said, according to Iranian state television.”

    1. As someone commented on the Internetz, it is enough for Iran to shoot down more drones than the US produces air defenses to slowly turn the war in Iran’s favor, and both China and Russia think it’s hilarious to see the US stockpile decrease.

    2. Quantity probably wins over quality in that war, if the USA uses air defense missiles against Shahed and similar, it will probably quickly become both expensive and a shortage of missiles.

So it has been difficult to take out armor and artillery, but it has worked well with lighter drones against troops?
