Two dead and ten injured in Kyiv after Russian attacks during the night – Ukrainian drones have attacked the Saratov oil refinery – Russian losses

Russia carried out a massive attack on Kyiv during the night. Both regular drones and the jet-powered variant as well as missiles were used in the attack. At least two people were killed and ten injured. The attack also caused damage to residential buildings, a school, warehouses, and vehicles as well as civilian infrastructure. The ceasefire, in which both sides were to refrain from attacking each other’s capitals, is thus over. Read more here.

Saratov’s oil refinery in Russia was attacked during the night by Ukrainian drones. Residents who shared pictures and videos on social media reported explosions and a fire at the refinery, and geolocation also points to the refinery being hit. Saratov is located about 460 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The refinery is one of the smaller ones in Russia with a capacity of about 4.8 MT/year.

Residents of the city of Engels also reported that the Russian air defense was active near the military airfield “Engels-2”. The airport is used, among other things, by Russia’s strategic bombers. There are no confirmations yet on whether the airport was actually attacked and if any damage occurred.

Zelensky believes that Putin will try to give Trump a diplomatic victory to help him in the US midterm elections.
“My feeling is that Putin needs Trump,” Zelensky said in an interview regarding the new peace talks.
I myself think it does not sound completely illogical, Putin and Trump really seem to appreciate each other and in that case it may have been the whole purpose of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner’s visit to Moscow, to persuade Putin to be cooperative in the negotiations until after the election. Operational information as of 08:00 on September 8, 2026, regarding the Russian invasion

Glory to Ukraine!
The 1658th day of the Russian Federation’s full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine has begun.

During the last 24 hours, a total of 244 combat contacts were recorded.
Yesterday the enemy conducted 99 airstrikes, during which 285 guided aerial bombs were dropped. Additionally, the attackers used 8,495 kamikaze drones and carried out 2,508 shellings against communities and our troops’ positions, of which 26 were with rocket artillery.

Hostile shelling affected, among others, the communities of Bachivsk, Bezsalivka, Korenok, Lomlenka, Hirky, Rivne, Neskuchne, Rohizne, Pysarivka, Sadky, Nova Sich, Myropillia, and Mala Slobidka in the Sumy region, as well as Khrinivka and Krasnyi Khutir in the Chernihiv region. Tovstodubove, Luzhky, and Ulanove were subjected to airstrikes.

During the last 24 hours, the defense forces’ aviation, missile units, and artillery struck five areas with concentrations of enemy personnel, four command posts for unmanned aerial vehicles, and two enemy artillery positions.

In the northern Slobozhansky and Kursk sectors, seven enemy assault attempts were recorded during the last 24 hours. The attacker conducted 107 shellings against our troops’ positions and communities, including one with rocket artillery. The enemy also carried out four airstrikes with a total of 12 guided aerial bombs.

In the southern Slobozhansky sector, Ukrainian units repelled 13 enemy attacks. The attackers tried to advance near Starytsia, Lyman, Volokhivka, Chaikivka, and Khatnie, as well as in the direction of Petro-Ivanivka and Radkivka.

In the Kupyansk sector, the enemy attempted to improve their positions on four occasions through assault operations in the area around Kurylivka as well as towards Kupyansk and Hlushkivka.

Attempts to break into our defense were repelled in the Lyman sector, where the occupiers conducted nine attacks in the areas around Novoiehorivka, Novoselivka, Stavky, Torske, Zarichne, and Lyman.

In the Sloviansk sector, the enemy carried out two offensive operations in the area around Kryva Luka.

In the Kramatorsk sector, the Russian attackers conducted an attack towards Yurkivka.

In the Kostyantynivka sector, 12 attacks were recorded. The attackers carried out assault operations near Kostyantynivka, Novoselivka, and Illinivka, as well as towards Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka and Rusyn Yar.

In the Pokrovsk sector, the enemy conducted 39 attacks. The occupiers tried to advance in the areas around Vodianske, Novyi Donbas, Bilytske, Shevchenko, Novohrishyne, Dobropillia, Matiashéve, Myrne, Kotlyne, Novomykolaivka, Biliakivka, Serhiivka, Udachne, Molodetske, and Novopidhorodnie.

In the Oleksandrivka sector, the enemy did not conduct any offensive operations.

In the Huljajpole sector, the occupiers attacked our defenders’ positions nine times. The enemy tried to advance towards the communities of Rizdvianka and Kopani.

In the Orikhiv sector, our defenders stopped an enemy attempt to advance towards the community of Pavlivka.

In the Prydniprovsk sector, the enemy made no attempts to attack.

In the Volyn and Polissya sectors, no signs have been detected that the enemy is forming offensive force groupings.

In total, the Russian attackers’ losses during the last 24 hours amounted to 1,410 personnel. Additionally, one armored fighting vehicle, 30 artillery systems, one rocket artillery system, three air defense systems, five ground-based missile systems, 1,592 unmanned aerial vehicles, and 452 vehicles were neutralized.

    It might be that Trump doesn’t care, but then it’s two years until the next election and the damage is done.

    I can guarantee that Putin has been asked to fiddle with the optics so that Trump can proclaim a huge peace victory before the midterm elections.

    Very good for Europe, we desperately need these months.

    When it comes to UA, you can vote for any party.

    Now the entire media and many Riksdag parties are playing the Russia card before the election – are we then more intellectually honest than all the media and all politicians 🧐

      AfS are basically open Russia-lovers.
      KP and SKP are almost as bad. Those two (at least outwardly) distance themselves from the Russian invasion, but at the same time oppose all military support for Ukraine. 

      Don’t vote for any of those three if you want what’s best for Ukraine!

      Then again, I actually don’t trust either V or SD, but there they probably won’t cause any trouble as long as the people’s support for Ukraine remains strong.

      (Though now you’ll probably label me intellectually dishonest! 😂)

        There have obviously been some within the Sweden Democrats who have been fond of Putin. But I doubt that there are particularly many today. Of course, this is just a guess.

          Swedes are very rarely friends of Russians. That is my experience. I don’t know if I have come across any in all my years. Friends of Russians are probably often from the Russian Orthodox cultural circle or married into such. They can, in relation to their number, be very active on social media so one might think they are more than they actually are.

    The blogger on the other blog writes that Trump is not healthy. One could probably agree with that. Although I might write that he is not within the normal range for an adult human being.

    How should one then relate to Trump’s personality? There is also a connection here with the recently timed election in Germany or the SD’s accession close to power in Sweden.

    Some time ago (before the latest election in the USA) I wrote a post on the neighboring blog about how it might be a good idea to try to understand what makes about half of the voters vote for this person (Trump). (The same question can be asked about what makes nearly half of the voters choose AfD.)

    My post led to me being kickbanned. Apparently, it can feel good to despise and hate Donald Trump. As well as to despise everyone who is attracted to SD.

    However, it has turned out that it is not particularly constructive to despise and scorn if one wants to try to prevent the one or the other or the third from gaining access to power. But apparently, it is more satisfying for many to despise and hate and thereby also feel very good than to be constructive.

      It is difficult to get people to change their opinion; once it has settled, people mostly listen to what reinforces their attitude, but having said that, I completely agree with you.

      If you do not understand the underlying causes, there will likely be no change. Sometimes the dissatisfaction may only be perceived, and sometimes there are real reasons behind it, but it does not help to just ignore it, and you hardly get anyone to change sides by calling them idiots.

      Then again, you may not have the time and energy to try to change something from the ground up and take all discussions as far as necessary. Sometimes you have to pick your battles, and often it can feel like a waste of time. For example, I have stopped trying to debate with Russian trolls because it achieves nothing at all, and I therefore settle for stating that they are exactly idiots.. 🙂

      BUT to kickban someone because they want to go in-depth and be constructive, or at least explain that there are always some underlying causes that one should understand, I find strange. You don’t have to participate in those discussions yourself if you don’t have the time and energy, or believe that it won’t lead anywhere.

    I would probably say that it is a gross oversimplification to say that regarding Ukraine, you can vote for any party.
    It requires a deeper analysis. How have they acted overall, in the short term, medium term, and historically?
    Are there individual people who do not agree with the party line? Is there a group in the party that is indecisive and basically just follows the party line (and potentially could “blossom” when the party whip quiets down)?

    I would say that most Swedish parties raise one or more warning flags somewhere in the above analysis. Maybe only 2-3 are largely without remark.

    The “problem,” as I see it, is perhaps that not everyone, despite 98-something percent supporting Ukraine, puts Ukraine/Russia highest on the priority list in the parliamentary election.
    I mean, if you don’t share the analysis that this is the absolutely most important issue for us and our children in all political matters and don’t realize that the Russians’ influence actively sabotages our welfare, then it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking – well, the party I’m going to vote for probably isn’t so bad, it’s just a minority of party members who waver in their conviction about the party line…
