And a beautiful film of russian cavalry – if someone still thought this was mechanized warfare.

https://twitter.com/PStyle0ne1/status/1894381508334407830

But it gets better, here is a group from the crutch-platoon storming over the snow-covered fields with fire support from a “crawler”- shooter or similar. Has this combination ever been seen before in any conflict, ever 😲

(yes, the misery is not lost on me at all here, probably forced mobilization, raped and abused, managed to survive an assault against all odds and now in bad shape sent across the fields again – worst ticket of all in this war).

https://twitter.com/banderafella/status/1894029073673806253

I have due to the occasion watched numerous clips posted from the early days of the war and the impact of all of this on the civilian population – it took me down a fair bit. It is unbelievable what the Ukrainian people have endured during three years and we have not yet reached the end. It is after the end of the beginning – we have entered the last phase of this war (Churchills great words didn’t fit in 🤬).

Anyway, sometime 2025 this is over for Putin.

Why and have you not told us this before since 2022 you say.

Well, everytime it started to go well for Ukraine, Biden pulled away the rug and torpedoed them but that is not there anymore.

From what we have seen red cards and geographical limits are gone.

The war-winning support package just arrived from EU.

And Ukraine have defeated the last indirect fire support RU had left – the dangerous FAB bombs, the russian equivalence of JDAMS.

Ukraina also have the advantage in their digital battlefield, target identification to kill chain, drone warfare, trained units, quality of APC, IFV and MBTs.

They now got the fighters they needed.

And have just commenced offensive operations again on the 6th February.

A bit in silence they are recovering Toretsk.

And have trapped a group of north Koreans that are looking hungrily at each other now.

Ukraina will win on the battlefield this year if west keep the material deliveries up and do not prevent Ukraina from fighting this as they see fit.

And done leak the battle plans to Russia of course and stop ammunition deliveries as punishment.

But it looks like we are past all those actions primarily USA but also Germany thought rightful and honourable and the rest of west did not protest much.

It is my view that future school children will read about this week in the history books, not only about Johan No.1, but also Ukraine and Trumps train-crash of a peace negotiation.

On the 24th the leaders of the west rallied in Kiev and it was a pre-meeting fight in the corridor over who should give Ukraine the biggest explosives package and then get to stand closest to Zelensky on the group picture.

What a difference to Zelenskys humiliating begging trip to USA this September to convince Biden, and the meeting with Mango Mussolini.

Or the NATO meeting 2023 where Ben Wallace learned the consequences of calling Zelensky “ungrateful”.

They have bled for us for three long years and the least we can do is to treat them with respect and give them what they need.

In fact, they keep us safe – imagine the horror if Ukraine accepts Trumps trap, hold elections, becomes pro-russian, a million old soldiers flod Europe as our new unstoppable mafia and Russia puts their million man army on the border of the Baltic states.

Each country needs to vote to get our own sons killed and Putins parties will run interference.

Churchill of our time and a few hundred thousand infantry in eastern Ukraina stand between us and that scenario.

Europes safety is now at stake – nobody elses, and at last the leaders of EU have realized this. For long they thought the worst that could happen was that Ukraina also would accept peace just like Russia wanted instead of running their own offensives refusing to meet at the negotiating table.

During the weekend and early week Zelensky started to address Trumps “peace negotiation” that was more extortion.

He then confirmed that his relation with Trump is at an all time low in some interview.

And Macron very frenchy slapped Trump lightly but very quick in his meeting with him – glorious from King Macron that played his role well. If you have read med you know I have defended Macron for a fair while against the worst attacks – this is why.

https://embed.bsky.app/embed/did:plc:oyzatboanf3omf2eievuwzwd/app.bsky.feed.post/3liwowwveg22r?id=9915961223374214

Towards mid-week it was clear that Ukraina would sign the “mineral-deal” that had the word “binding” in it when the wording leaked.

But it was a letter of intent tops and Ukraine signature on that meaningless other than a symbolical victory for Trump.

But…

He made promises on video that will be hard to break without exposing him and said “Ukraine will have the right to fight on as they want” – which means firstly it is what Ukraine wants and the USA will not stop them like before.

That is a positive in all this and not sure in this absolut ant-hill of stuff that happened over the last two week was determining.

Zelensky is also today Friday in US and the rumour is that Trump tried to cancel the meeting but Zelensky didn’t get the memo 🤣

We also know Putins plan as Zapad 25 is on – for Europe this means that in September Russia would attempt their landgrab of some hectares in the eastern part of the Baltic states just to test NATO.

Putin has laid the groundwork with Belarus whose defence forces been trained by Wagner since summer 2023. At the start of the war they were 100k on paper but the tip of the spear 15k or similar – probably better today. Wagner is between 3000 – 13000, I am not sure how many are left.

Russia has prepared to army corps and total 150 000 according to Ukraine. We know they channel better equipment and units are built up around veterans with work experience of war 2025 style.

Baltic states started their defensive structures along the border in February this year, got tiny armies and EU have negligible forces there.

This is the reality for EU come September provided Ukraine has not managed something decisive in their country before then.

Forget a cease fire and peace keeping troops – when have peace keeping troops ever defended something?

They just say war was not part of the mandate and that it is no peace to protect anymore and leave.

The clauses in the treaties are always vague enough for the parties signing them to not have to join when the worst happens.

Nobody even talks of the Budapest memorandum today and read it – the text is a mater piece in playing with words so nobody broke it by not joining the war 2022.

I think EU has understood this now at last and will allow Ukraine to fight this war the way they intended to since 2022.

A lot more to come and the pieces are in play.

  1. And late last evening, after meeting with Starmer, Trump said “Dictator? Really, did I call him that?”. Per OSINT Trump also issued a instruction to continue with the sanctions against mockba for one more year.

If this is true and Ukraine continue to receive military aid as proposed, this could be the leverage that Ukraine needs to push mockba away from its territory.

  2. Operational information as of 08.00 on 28.02.2025 on the Russian invasion

In total, 128 combat engagements were registered over the past day.

“In total, 128 clashes were recorded during the past day.
According to the information, yesterday the enemy launched one missile and 91 air strikes, used one missile and dropped 128 CAB. In addition, the enemy carried out more than five thousand shells, including 162 – from jet systems of salvage fire, and also deployed 2,865 kamikaze drones for impact.”

    2. Over the past day, the missile troops and artillery of the Defense Forces hit one area of personnel concentration, two air defense systems, and three artillery systems of the AFRF🇷🇺.

  3. Johan, a very well written post today. Appreciated the analysis.

    One thought…..

With regards to the Swedish troops in the Baltics we all know that without drone protection measures you might as well drop your gun, take of your helmet and go home. Do we know if the Tridon Mk2 anti drone guns that Sweden will send to Ukraine will also protect the Swedish (and allied) troops in the Baltics? EW measures will not work since the drones in a fight with the Baltics will use fiber optics.

  4. If the trumpet does not remember what he said about Zelensky a week ago, how can we trust that he will remember a “deal”???? How convenient for a leader to “forget” things… maybe something we in Europe should consider? “…. oooh, have we given Ukraine Swedish jetfighters? Can’t possibly remember if we have done that, not something we can recall…”

      1. I’m not sure it would help to sit at the same table as Trump… 😉

But I do hope it will end well and that I’m wrong about Trump!

  5. Let it burn!

“On the night of February 28, the 🇺🇦Ukrainian Defense Forces destroyed a warehouse storing thermobaric ammunition of the 🇷🇺Russian military in the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region, in the Selidove district. – General Staff of Ukraine”

  6. “This is what the Kakhovka HPP and the occupied Nova Kakhovka on the left bank of the Kherson region look like now. Compared to the coastal towns on the right bank, these areas look mostly intact.”

  7. “Fighting alcoholism in the Russian army: a commander locked his drunk soldiers in a basement for two days without food or water, forcing them to relieve themselves on the spot. Discipline, Russian style.”

  8. “The Finnish Ministry of Defence will deliver €660 million worth of weapons to Ukraine, including heavy Finnish-made armored vehicles, as part of the upcoming defense aid packages.”

A few thoughts on what is happening in Turkey and how it may affect Ukraine.

President Erdogan always wants to be relevant in everything that happens and has no problem making the rest of the world irritated by his behavior. Erdogan always wants what is best for himself, at least for the Turks. His problem right now is that his international influence is decreasing and he risks ending up at the children’s table.

The PKK has been Erdogan’s external enemy for many years and we should not ignore the fact that Erdogan has been able to keep this low-intensity campaign going so that the country has an external threat that the people can rally around. He could have easily ended it several years ago but is doing so right now. Turkey will have a large, idle defense force that can now be used elsewhere.

Turkey has long been negotiating with the EU about membership but has met with some resistance from, among others, Greece and France.

Erdogan, who has tried to take a neutral role since the war began, came out a week ago saying that he thought the EU should be involved in the peace negotiations and that Ukraine should be allowed to join NATO and the EU. Note the EU, the same EU that Turkey wants to become a member of.

I can imagine a future scenario where Turkey announces that they can send peacekeeping troops into Ukraine.

That would give Erdogan a seat at the big boys’ table and the EU would be morally indebted to Turkey because it is their boys who are risking their lives in Ukraine. This “debt” can of course be exchanged for resumed negotiations on EU membership.

  10. With regard to the EU membership, the problem lies with Turkey. After the first round of negotiations, Turkey and the EU recognized, I believe, 35 issues (each having a chapter in the formal document) that Turkey needed to work out before the process could start. When Erdogan became president, Turkey had resolved one of the chapters in eleven years.

Then, of course, Erdogan has interfered with the legal system of Turkey in such a way that there would have to be a new round of negotiations and new issues (chapters) to resolve if Turkey wants to apply for membership.

The bottom line is that Turkey shows no real interest in becoming a member state; I believe it is mostly internal politics aimed at Turkish middle-class urban voters.

That’s not to say that Erdogan would not like to strike a deal regarding visa-free travel to Europe or something similar.

  11. If I am going to get dead drunk at the Friday binge-drinking party, I need to start right now. So if you hear pschhhh, it is me, opening the first Cruzcampo at Costa del Sol. Not so much “Sol” today however, mostly grey skies.
    Cheers! 🍺

      1. The Fredagsfylla master himself is unfortunately absent, pretending to have more important things to do.🤷🏻‍♂️
        We are on our own!

    1. Zelensky is delaying. Trump has to wait for Zelensky who has probably spoken to the Senate. Should the US president have to sit and wait for a TV show artist from Ukraine?

  12. Welcome to the legendary Friday binge-drinking, this mythical event where barely a direct invitation is enough to get through the door. A more exclusive circle is hard to find, and presidents try to bribe MXT to be able to join.

  13. It went as bad as it can go, unfortunately! Ukraine needs the USA and their ammunition! Hopefully, things will calm down for the press conference!

    1. The issue is that Zelensky does not want a direct ceasefire.

Didn’t Trump say he would be able to continue?

      The train crash is DEVASTATING.

UA must step away from this now and let the EU take over – there is no other option.

    2. I don’t think Trump wants to sit with Putin in his lap. Trump likes strength. If there’s something missing in Putin and his donkey army, that’s exactly it. The right time to take on Putin. Trump can’t do anything. And if he doesn’t want to support Ukraine, he will soon end up outside the spotlight he loves so much. While Ukraine and Europe continue to fight…

      1. Westley Richard

Even though Putin is weak, he is one leg in a love triangle between the USA, Russia, and China. There is no chance that the three will agree, there will always be intrigue.

      2. Yes, Trump has gone astray in his analysis of the world. It’s good that Zelensky was clear in his stance and had the guts to confront a conflict. He doesn’t need the USA right now.

  14. Here you all saw for once what Trump really thought.

He also thought he came out on top here.

Now we need to hear from those who want to nuance Trump how good/bad this was?

You already know my analysis, it’s clear 😀

    1. There will be damage control but this was the truth.

Note that they brought up Pennsylvania.

Do you think those two don’t know that a lot of Swedish politicians were in the US campaigning for Kamala Harris?

      1. Westley Richard

Trump is extremely vindictive, he has not forgotten that Zelensky visited Pennsylvania and that he did not want to investigate Hunter Biden.
The question is whether he wants to set an example of what happens to those who do not obey him.

        1. It is also said to exist a debate article by the Ukrainian ambassador in the USA (2020?) that was pro Democrats, heard about it but haven’t found it…

    2. Ok, let me attempt to provide some nuance.

First of all, I don’t see it as a conclusion. They were on their way into discussions. Zelenskyy was not heading to the airport. I’ve just listened to a lot of video clips from the Oval Office, but that’s how I perceive it.

Secondly, this was a way to clear the air. The MAGA voters hate Zelenskyy, who is seen as the cause of high taxes, inflation, etc. It’s partly Trump who is hammering this home, and there may also be elements of influence from a foreign power, read Kremlin.

It also aligns with Trump’s tendency to appease Russia in public settings (e.g., the Security Council). Therefore, it’s logical for Trump to publicly scold Zelenskyy in the Oval Office.

The clearing of the air was probably also linked to Trump’s personal grievances – injustices that Trump felt he had to endure.

Trump believes he can get Russia on board with a deal by appeasing them while also scolding Zelenskyy.

Clearing the air with the voter base provides an opportunity to reach an agreement with Zelenskyy for continued support in exchange for a deal on rare earth metals, an agreement that is also needed to motivate the voters (MAGA) for continued support.

Continued military support is therefore not ruled out as a result of Zelenskyy’s visit. And I believe, as I said, that they would discuss more and that Zelenskyy is still at the WH(?).

Such military support, in turn, is not conditional on a ceasefire. As Trump said yesterday, “Zelenskyy ‘gets’ to keep fighting.”

    1. Clicked on a link above, Just one was enough. Want to avoid seeing more. What the h-ll kind of people. But the question is whether it wouldn’t have been wiser for Zelensky to keep a good face in a bad game.

    2. Was the situation deliberately provoked? So that Trump could say that he tried and show the Americans that it’s Zelensky’s fault? Now he can stay on his side of the Atlantic. The spectacle was about the same level as when Robinson-Robban took off his shirt and crashed Treutiger’s TV show like the Ipren man. No one touched him with a ten-foot pole after that.

  15. Westley Richard

Two North Korean soldiers captured by Ukraine knew nothing about the war they were sent to fight. They were told they would be facing off against South Koreans. “I didn’t know I was going to Russia, I realized it only when I arrived.” One arrived near Russia’s border with Ukraine and was posted not far from the front line. It was at this point that it dawned on him that he was at war. “I had only heard of war before; To actually be in one felt surreal.” They were instructed to evade capture at all costs, blowing themselves up if they had to. His unit came under heavy artillery and drone fire. He lost consciousness before he had a chance to take his own life. Then he lay in the frigid forest for five days.

      1. Yes, Trump’s position regarding Russia seems contrived and counterintuitive. What is he up to? If we in the Western world want to get rid of woke and cultural Marxism, we can do it without Putin’s help.

        1. Westley Richard

Better that some cultural Marxist gets to spew out their idiocy on Aftonbladet’s culture page than us becoming a country like Russia.

  16. Who needs a ceasefire now?
    -Putin!

    What was the fuss about?
At some point, Trump reveals it when he says that Zelensky does not want an immediate ceasefire and that it is not his place to decide.

Everything else was smoke about Zelensky being allowed to continue fighting or what – here you clearly heard what Trump said.
And you ALL know what a ceasefire means, right, no one who has read the texts can be unaware of this.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have seen exactly what Trump wants – there is really nothing more to say about this other than that my analysis holds true that he and Putin are a party to the negotiations. The gamble paid off.

Now Kier Starmer will have a summit very soon and Zelensky will go there. UA is advancing on the fronts and has neutralized FAB.

There is zero reason to worry – it is Putin who needs a ceasefire, no one else.

Yes, today one is boiling with anger and would strangle Vance and Trump if given the chance.

I wanted one of two reactions if you remember –
-Trump is delighted that Europe is now increasing its commitment with weapons and in words.
-Trump gets angry and calls the EU (and UA) warmongers.

We actually got number two here and then it is indisputable to me and I will not change my mind 😀
It is impossible to nuance this no matter how much one wants to.

Either you support Ukraine or Trump, a choice to make and MXT has been a bit too friendly to Trump here 🧐

Forced the wife to put on headphones and when Vance had been going on for a while, she said (without knowing anything) “he is against the other, he is hiding something and defending something”.

    1. Well caught Johanno1! And since I have a little 8 left in the glass, cheers!!

Now let’s move on and leave those craneflies to their unfortunate fate.

    1. Westley Richard

Rubio is afraid of having two nuclear-armed nations as enemies, so the USA will try to cozy up to Russia. Has he forgotten that the UK and France are two nuclear-armed nations?

      1. Nuclear weapons exercise a kind of magic on people. It’s like a binary code between nuclear-weapon states and non-nuclear-weapon states. In reality, it is more of a sliding scale and a type of weapon among others.

  17. Now I am a bit “red” in my mind. But it was incredibly refreshing to see Zelensky stand up to Mango/Vakanso. Like seeing someone stand up to the bullies in the schoolyard.

    1. The time is probably around 8 in Sweden 😀
I downed all the weekend beers already on Wednesday, and apparently I had finished the rum from the weekend before, and we don’t have a driver so it’s very sober here.

Thursday was a public holiday here.

      1. The fire started and the wine uncorked in Svedala. I will put headphones on my wife when the news starts so she doesn’t have to hear me snore. I want her to fall asleep with a positive image of her husband.

  18. Now EVERY leader in the EU has supported Zelensky in words.

King-Macron even calls Trump a coward.

If the EU now just picks up this ball, Trump and the USA can die a slow death as they wish.

  19. 205 brings up something important above – that Trump’s peace plan has now completely crashed.
It was supposed to give Putin the ceasefire he now needs to avoid losing the war.
How do you think Putin is feeling right now 🤣🤣

    1. They can always hope. Believing that the visitor list at the White House will be quite empty for a while. But who knows, Vance might get a fresh start in BRICS together with Medvetjev 🤡.

  20. Do you think Putin physically can cry?
If so, he’s probably doing that right now 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

It’s Putin and no one else who needs a ceasefire, and that’s what Trump has been trying to achieve with a lot of talk.
When the ceasefire didn’t work, everything else was uninteresting – that’s the crux of the matter, isn’t it.

    1. I do think that he has the kind of disposition that fits fairly well in the manual under the keyword psychopath. So he probably knows that he should cry a little to appear human.

  21. I thought for a while, with all the statements from Trump, that he saw where this was heading and would calm down, but apparently Zelensky not wanting an immediate ceasefire is his red line – then he gets upset.

It also seems like earlier in the meeting he asked Zelensky to give up Kherson and Zaporizia as well (which Putin has not yet captured) and Zelensky refused, so a little more maybe?

  22. It was a good Friday night out after all, Putin’s peace mediation is stone dead and he will now accuse UA and EU of being warmongers and that Putin only wants peace 😁

    1. Done deal! As in a dead peace deal.

      https://x.com/realdonaldtrump/status/1895566669281636846?s=46

Trump seems to be saying above no peace deal – no am. involvement. So Trump now gets the opportunity to focus on Panama (Operation Just Cause II) and Greenland (China of course). Europe and Ukraine take on Russia.

Operation Just Cause: the Invasion of Panama, December 1989
      https://www.army.mil/article/14302/operation_just_cause_the_invasion_of_panama_december_1989

  23. Seeing Trump and Vance behave like schoolyard bullies is more than a little sick. The USA is on the decline and seems to be going after everything and everyone, the desperation to be big and strong doesn’t work so well when neither the president nor the vice can behave like adults. All credit to Zelensky for acting like a leader should.

I noticed in passing that the USA wants to stop the deal between Sweden and Chile regarding the Gripen, the USA wants to push their old F16s at inflated prices as usual, but I don’t think they will succeed in selling their “security guarantees” anymore…

  24. A serious consideration, what if Zelensky didn’t agree to go to the WH and “discuss a deal” because he and the Ukrainian staff guessed it would backfire… to let the USA embarrass itself on live TV… One can’t exactly claim that Trump and company won any statesmanlike points there.
    Just a thought.

    1. Westley Richard

The following text translated from Swedish to English:

Zelensky’s team should have known so that they could have played that card, if it had seemed to work, Trump doesn’t seem to have a problem with throwing dirt at Bush.

Of course, if Trump had been president instead of John Adams, they would have solved the problem themselves.

    1. Incomprehensible consequences. Europe is forced to turn to Turkey and China. Fortunately, this happens when Russia is at its weakest with donkeys and hobbyhorses.

  25. I was born in 1962. I have felt the wings of history a few times.
The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
The implosion of the Soviet Union in 1991.
    9/11 2001.
Russia’s attack on Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
    Candidate: NATO’s collapse on February 28, 2025.

    1. Westley Richard

Vance laughs when Zelensky is asked about the suit, a normal person would have found the question embarrassing.
It’s Vance who triggers and escalates everything, Rubio sits scared in a corner.
      Trump joins in.

  26. Westley Richard

With hundreds of thousands of deaths, the people of Ukraine have earned their immunity, their right to survive amid the horrific attack they were subjected to by Russia. For neither men live nor die in vain.

Interview on Fox News with Zelensky after the meeting at the White House.

I think Zelensky makes a good impression and it’s good that it’s being broadcast on Trump-friendly Fox News.

  28. Personally, I am not the least bit upset or surprised after the meeting at the White House. We have been condemning UZA for quite some time now. A 10-year-old as president, surrounded by fascists and Nazis. Did anyone really think there was any potential in the meeting? Zelensky went there with an offer from Europe in his back pocket that is significantly better than what UZA offers. Our hero spat on UZA and the clowns couldn’t handle it. It would have been a huge shock if anything positive had come out of the meeting. No, this was expected and foreseen. Nothing new under the sun. This only makes Europe even more determined and united, so we should look positively at the meeting. The mists have cleared. Go Europe! The Moscow state is hanging by a thread.

  29. “I respect the president, I respect the American people, and I think we have to be very open and very honest, and I’m not sure we did anything wrong.”

    Zelensky answered regarding an apology.

Zelensky did suggest that certain things should be discussed without the presence of media.

    1. “Yes. Of course it is. Because this is a relationship not only between two presidents, it is a historic and powerful relationship between our nations.”

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy convinced relations with U.S. President Donald Trump can be saved:

      Voice of America

      1. Volodomyr Zelensky is a diplomatic genius. Offers the US administration an escape from an untenable position. Why should the US have Russia as an ally? It does not make sense.

        1. Z🇺🇦 said no to peace w/o U.S. security guarantees.

Is what happened in line with US foreign policy as of the last decade?

The trend has been the US working towards Europe taking a greater responsibility for the security in its own region. It started even before Trump’s first term. At the same time, the US sees China as its main threat.

At a recent conference at the WH the following was communicated:

“Trump also said that “peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait” are important and Article 5 of the Japan-U.S. security treaty applies to the Tokyo-controlled, Beijing-claimed Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea.

At a joint press conference at the White House after the meeting, Trump and Ishiba affirmed that the bilateral alliance is the “cornerstone” of peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.

“Trump vowed to use ‘full strength of American deterrence’ to maintain security in the Indo-Pacific. He and Ishiba, Trump said, ‘agreed to cooperate even more closely to combat the Chinese economic aggression, which is quite aggressive.'”

Trump accelerated the US separation from responsibility for European security during the first term, with implicit threats leaving NATO if Europe did not pay up. He also criticized Europe for dependence on Russian energy.

Biden during his term did not really reverse that hardened stance, and he was focused on not escalating the war, giving Ukraine barely what they needed to survive. During Biden’s term, Europe stepped up and became a major supporter of Ukraine. Some say bigger than the US.

So during Trump’s present term, the US policy of separation from responsibility for European security has further sharpened. The US secretary of defense highlighted this during his speech to European leaders a few weeks ago.

The debacle in the WH can be seen as the final nail in the box of this development. It is now completely clear that the US has left its commitment to withholding/improving European security and the responsibility solely now lies with the leaders of Europe, including Ukraine.

  30. Now it’s damn time to put down the umbrella drink with dark rum and start writing something! 😀 It’s not exactly quiet on the news front…
