Found this on A Sweden and up until the last two paragraphs it’s okay but they still don’t understand that they have blamed the victim and that they have drifted far from what is reasonable.
Then there is an attempt to disclaim that it was not interpreted as intended but it IS Amnesty’s responsibility, no one else’s, since they wrote the report, or the press release…

This became a really serious clash with reality and realpolitik for Amnesty and unfortunately the longer they take to apologize the greater the damage for them, there is no middle ground.
The researcher in Finland should either fully distance herself from Russia or resign.
The Director General should resign.
Apologize and send a huge donation to Ukraine and unreservedly praise Amnesty’s Ukraine office.

They better be quick because the death torture in the prisons has been topped by burning dozens of them in groups, how many are actually left to prosecute here?
It’s not easy for an Azovstal defender who has been both castrated and had his knees crushed to enter the trial in a dignified way so it would look good on camera.

I have never understood the magnitude of what it was like to live in the Soviet Union but now I do. There can’t be a normally functioning person in the West who would think Russian peace is an option. If they do, they can take the same trip as the Northern Sweden communists did in the 1930s and experience the dream society in person.
What I took from that book we were supposed to read was the lice room, a small cube specially prepared with lice where you had to sit for a few days and get bitten to pieces. Our time’s Russian Nazis have topped that several times here.

It’s like a death cult spiraling out of control faster and faster with the worst abuses. There were probably a couple of hundred women among the Azovstal prisoners and when the men come back dead or at best castrated and with crushed knees, you hardly dare guess their condition. Months have passed now without the UN and Red Cross caring to guarantee their safety as they signed up for. The pregnant woman who was in the filtration camp, for example, what is the limit for when the UN and Red Cross actually start doing their job here?

There was a lot about civilians feeling “concern” over this attack and that Crimea might not be so Russian anymore, I had a bit of trouble putting that together. Then the question is asked if this is the start of an attack and the answer from the presumably expert is that Russia claims it was an accident so it’s hard to say. You get the feeling that the whole discussion, both over the phone and in the studio, rather sympathizes with Russia and sees Ukraine as some kind of, if not aggressor, then the party that makes people worried and disturbed.
You can really only view the situation like this if you sympathize with Russia and not with Ukraine.
We in the thread have somersaulted and run to buy fancy chips and really wooooooow;ed over the mushroom cloud and all the grounded planes. How can any normally functioning person not stuff their mouth with chips and try to smile at such a brilliant piece of news as this?

Can it really go on like this after five months of ethnic cleansing of a country, it’s not just pure factual errors but the moral compass has completely stopped working. One can only hope that enough people read LW’s blog and get calibrated.

Can’t find it now but you remember that the Russians left Tokmachka and a hole more because Ukraine put too much artillery on them?
Now Tokmachka is on the daily artillery list.
If I remember correctly it was southeast of Tokmak or directly east and was a substantial indentation.
That means Ukraine has taken that community now, very exciting.

Yes, I think that even the slightest inclination that Russia is not the worst criminal state is wrong, there is no middle ground here, Russia is wrong and Ukraine is right. But yes, the shift can be due to something other than wanting the Russian empire to stretch from Vladivostok to Lisbon, you are right about that.

GOERAN63 – I think we interpreted it a bit differently, I got the impression that she had talked to Russians in Crimea who were worried that Ukraine would escalate, so not that it was pro-Ukrainians who were worried. I may have misinterpreted and you are completely right.

What AI must understand is that it is how the damn report is interpreted and exploited for PR purposes that is critical, not what the purpose of it was. Usually, you might get away with it, but not when you blame a victim in this way and under the current circumstances.
