What we see now has very little to do with Ukraine and very much to do with controlling Russia.
By now going out on all channels saying “we are at war with NATO,” they have established their external permanent threat.
The mobilization has brought about coercive measures that the population accepts.
When they eventually leave Ukraine, the threat remains in the form of NATO, an army on a war footing, permanent wartime laws, etc.
Kind of like North Korea and the rocket man or the Soviet Union. We in the West see the absurdity, but they know exactly what steps they are taking to keep the country in an iron grip.
If there is no real revolution, we are heading towards Soviet 2.0, but where the country is not a threat outwardly; everything is to control the population.
