The Russian independent media company Mediazona, in collaboration with the BBC’s Russian service, has confirmed the identities of 258,989 Russian military personnel killed in Ukraine. They track, among other things, obituaries and social media posts, but this time they have also obtained a leaked list of bodies exchanged between Russia and Ukraine, where names were added only after their identities could be confirmed. Mediazona itself has admitted in connection with previous reports that their figures are underestimated and that the actual number of killed is likely much higher and may even be twice as high.

I honestly did not think we would reach this level of killed and wounded Russian soldiers for a long time. I thought it would probably come only when Ukraine finally gained such a large advantage that they could launch a powerful counteroffensive and completely overrun the Russian lines. But maybe that is what is happening now?
2,090 KIA is the third highest for the entire war, and we have not seen this level since the end of 2024. The current record of 2,200 is from December 20, 2024, and third place 2,030 is from November 29, 2024.

The 1,678th day of the Russian Federation’s full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine has begun.
In the past 24 hours, a total of 229 combat engagements were recorded.
Yesterday, the enemy conducted 90 airstrikes, during which 277 guided aerial bombs were dropped. Additionally, the attackers used 8,845 kamikaze drones and carried out 2,918 shellings against communities and our troops’ positions.
In the Sumy region, the communities of Havrylivska Sloboda, Korchakivka, Pysarivka, Yastrubshchyna, Korenok, Mohrytsia, Tovstodubove, Sadky, Marine, and Pustohorod were subjected to hostile artillery fire. Additionally, the areas around Sumy, Khotin, and Vilna Sloboda were targeted by airstrikes.
In the past 24 hours, the defense forces’ aviation, missile units, and artillery struck two areas with concentrations of enemy personnel as well as four command posts for unmanned aerial vehicles.
In the northern Slobozhanskyi sector, the attackers launched six assaults in the areas around Bachivsk, Hirky, and Volfyne.
In the southern Slobozhanskyi sector, Ukrainian units repelled seven enemy attacks. The attackers attempted to advance in the areas around Starytsia, Kozacha Lopan, Volokhivske, and Prykolotne.
In the Kupiansk sector, the enemy attacked twice in the areas around Kivsharivka and Kolisnykivka.
Attempts to break through our defenses were repelled in the Lyman sector, where the occupiers carried out seven attacks in the areas around Kolodiazi, Novoselivka, Zarichne, Lyman, and Dibrova.
In the Sloviansk sector, the enemy conducted three assault attempts in the area around Mykolaivka.
In the Kramatorsk sector, the occupiers attacked once in the direction of the community of Fedorivka Druha.
In the Kostiantynivka sector, 25 attacks were recorded. The attackers conducted assault operations in the areas around Mykolaipillia, Kostiantynivka, Novoselivka, Illinivka, Dovha Balka, and Rusyn Yar.
In the Pokrovsk sector, our defenders stopped 20 attacks. The enemy was active in the areas around Serhiivka and Molodetske and also conducted assaults in the direction of Dobropillia, Vilne, Bilytske, Chernihivka, and Myrne.
In the Oleksandrivka sector, the attackers carried out five attacks in the direction of the communities of Sichneve and Verbove.
In the Huljajpole sector, the occupiers attacked 12 times. The enemy tried to advance in the areas around Rizdvianka, Kopani, Yehorivka, and Myrne.
In the Orikhiv and Prydniprovsk sectors, the enemy did not conduct any assault operations in the past 24 hours.
In the Volyn and Polissia sectors, no signs have been detected that the enemy is forming offensive force groupings.
The Ukrainian defenders continue the systematic fight against the enemy and effectively resist on all front sectors.
Total Russian attacker losses in the past 24 hours amounted to 2,090 personnel. Additionally, one tank, eight armored fighting vehicles, 49 artillery systems, two rocket artillery systems, two air defense systems, 12 ground-based missile systems, 1,382 unmanned aerial vehicles, 490 vehicles, and seven units of special equipment were neutralized.
