Russian losses

Chaos today with this and that. The worst was almost the coffee maker that had a malfunction and caused a minor flood. It seems like it’s not satisfied and keeps pumping as long as possible, and with a brewer connected to the water supply, it was lucky that I discovered it in decent time.
Fortunately, it’s still possible to brew coffee if you make sure to monitor it as closely as if it were the border to Russia.

Haven’t had time to go through any news, but I briefly saw that Trump received his Nobel Prize as a bribe from the real recipient and that France has now replaced the USA as the largest provider of intelligence services to Ukraine. Then there’s not much left that the USA contributes, maybe Zelenskyy no longer needs to butter up Trump so much.

Russian losses in Ukraine

Once again, high losses, one wonders, just as one has done for a few years now, when will they have had enough?

  • 1370 KWIA
  • 6 Tanks
  • 4 AFVs
  • 48 Artillery systems
  • 3 MLRS
  • 527 UAVs
  • 180 Vehicles and Fuel tanks
  • 2 Special equipment

Russian activities

Still a large number of drones, but unfortunately also many KAB today.

  • 180 Strikers
  • 97 Airstrikes (3 drones)
  • 234 KAB
  • 3,338 Artillery strikes (57 from MLRS)
  • 6,968 Suicide drones (FPV etc.)

  1. 🔥 In the South, the aerial reconnaissance of the State Border Service of Ukraine first discovered and destroyed an enemy firing point, followed by aerial reconnaissance, which disabled antenna equipment, and finally dismantled a mortar position.”

  2. “⚡️ Frankrike ersätter USA som huvudleverantör av underrättelser till Kyiv, säger Macron. Förändringen syftar till att lösa Kyivs beroende av USA för militär underrättelse, vilket har använts som påtryckning mot Ukraina av Trump-administrationen vid flera tillfällen.”

  3. Finally, Trump received the Nobel Prize!

Now the hunt for a second, and … even the eighth one begins, which he deserves as he (according to his own statement) has stopped 8 wars so far.

Unfortunately, I don’t think this will reduce the irritation that Zelensky is not doing as Trump says, but maybe marginally positive for Ukraine.

  4. Off-Topic, Hungary

WTF!? Does the world really need fewer people like Viktor Orbán! That Netanyahu and Milei are fond of him is one thing, but for Meloni to join forces with them despite Italy being part of the EU is reprehensible!

“The world needs Viktor Orbán. This is confirmed by a dozen right-wing leaders who have joined forces in a new campaign to support the Hungarian prime minister.

The video features, among others, Israel’s leader Benjamin Netanyahu, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Argentina’s President Javier Milei.

“You can’t take security for granted. It must be earned. And I believe that Viktor Orbán possesses those qualities,” says Netanyahu.

“We stand together,” says Giorgia Meloni, emphasizing that she and Orbán share the same values.

Even far-right politicians Marine Le Pen and AFD leader Alice Weidel appear in the video.

The video is part of the Hungarian leader’s campaign ahead of the upcoming political election in April. In the latest opinion polls, Orbán, who has been prime minister for 16 years, has received less support than before.” https://omni.se/hogerledare-ger-sitt-stod-till-viktor-orban-i-ny-kampanj/a/2pdKra

    1. Hopefully edited together and AI…… But Orban is in a bad position ahead of the election in April, so he will probably do what is necessary?
That thing with the coffee maker didn’t sound fun, surprisingly how much water can spread when something ends up outside the intended container ….

      1. Crossing my fingers that it’s AI.

Yes, it doesn’t take much for it to become a lot.

A few years ago, we had another coffee maker that brewed directly into a large thermos. It held two full pots. I think we experienced just about every stupid mistake possible with that one.

It happened on several occasions that people didn’t bother to check how much coffee was actually left in the thermos (or missed pouring out what was left from the day before when they arrived in the morning), so they started a new brew which of course overflowed.

Not everyone was completely stupid. The outlet the coffee maker was connected to had a 2-hour timer. If you forgot to turn it off and on to reset it before starting a new brew, it could accidentally turn off before it was done. The person starting the brew then thought they had forgotten to start it, so when they turned on the timer, they started a new brew. Meanwhile, the coffee maker remembered that it was already in the middle of a brew, resulting in running through two cycles, which of course didn’t fit in the thermos.

Normally, the thermos stayed in the coffee maker, but you could also put on a lid if you wanted to take the thermos to the conference room and serve guests. This, of course, was also associated with high risk. If you then just put the coffee maker back with the lid on, someone would inevitably discover that the coffee in the thermos was finished and start a new brew, resulting in coffee spilling everywhere except in the thermos.

It ended up overflowing so much that coffee came through the ceiling to those who had the office on the floor below us several times.

The landlord eventually got tired and forbade us from continuing to use that coffee maker.. 😂

    2. One can probably hope it’s AI, and it probably is. What would Hungary and Italy be without the EU? Hungary would be like Belarus, and Italy would have severe economic problems. However, I think Meloni has done well, and Orban did well at first too, but as usual, when someone has been in a position of power for a long time, they become power-hungry, unfortunately, it’s inevitable.

  5. Off-Topic, Iran – USA

Deterrent purpose or is something going on?

“The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln with its accompanying strike group is heading towards Iran from the South China Sea, several media outlets report.

The strike group includes fighter jets, missile destroyers, and at least one submarine, according to The Hill. It is said to take about a week before it reaches the area.

The movement is happening at the same time as US President Donald Trump has threatened to respond to the Iranian regime’s handling of the nationwide protests in the country.

According to reports to NBC, Trump has been held back by several countries in the Middle East from carrying out an attack, as it would risk regional stability and might not be enough to overthrow the regime.”

  6. “The cold is paralyzing Ukraine, which has been severely affected by the Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure, reports Sky News.

In the city of Boryspil in the Kyiv region, workers have braved snow and 15 degrees below zero from early morning until midnight to repair the damage to the burnt-out power systems. There is electricity for about four hours a day. When many people start washing, cooking, and charging their mobile phones, the system crashes again.

Earlier this week, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Russia of deliberately attacking energy infrastructure on “the coldest days, when electricity and heat mean survival”.”

  7. Off-Topic, Sweden and immigration

He has a point. Considering the declining birth rates, we will either need labor immigration or be forced to adapt to a decreasing population.

“The Liberals want to see a changed tone towards immigrants and take away the responsibility for labor immigration from the Swedish Migration Agency. This is written in Svenska Dagbladet.

This will be done by establishing a new authority that instead will facilitate people coming to Sweden. Minister for Employment Johan Britz (L) argues that the current tone scares away well-educated immigrants and criticizes the Sweden Democrats, Moderates, and Social Democrats.

    – The problem is that now it is perceived that Sweden is negative towards immigration altogether. And that is life-threatening for a small, internationally dependent country that has some of the world’s leading companies and organizations within our borders, he tells the newspaper.”

    1. SD= Preferably no immigrants at all
S= Preferably only immigrants who do not take our jobs
M= Preferably immigrants who take our jobs and can thus push down wages.
      L=?

Roughly generalized. The interesting thing is that I do not know where the 2% party L stands. They once again show their irrelevance.

      1. That’s about it, and yes, L is completely on the verge of losing it.

Could be a sensible centrist party, a golden mean that picks the best from both the left and the right. Instead, they completely fail to find a line and be clear in their politics, and when they have no more support than a few percent, not many care either.

I also suspect that centrist parties simply do not fit into the current spirit of the times. Everything is so polarized that either you are on the right or on the left, and people refuse to even try to meet, because those on the wrong side are idiots regardless of whether they come up with sensible proposals or not.
Of course, your own side does everything right even when they are way off base.

In addition, for many years it has become more popular to complain about others than to try to develop well-thought-out and good proposals and pursue one’s own politics.

        1. “We in the Liberal Party have always wanted and will always want”…. Bertil Ohlin, Liberal Party leader in the 1950s and 1960s.
“Vela” = Skåne dialect for “vilja” (want). GO was originally from Åstorp in Skåne. His daughter later became the Minister of Finance, Anne Wibble.

      2. Difficult not to like Simona. Despite all odds against her, she took the job while many others in the party were hiding. Considering the circumstances, I think she is fighting well against the headwind.

    2. Haven’t we heard for at least 25 years that immigration would solve the demographic problems?

I get the impression that it wasn’t solved, but according to the above, increased immigration should then solve it?

Why hasn’t it been solved in 25 years?

      1. The immigration from the Balkans went well, especially for the children. Many have obtained good positions in Sweden. Despite everything, that immigration must be seen as successful.
With Muslims, it is more complicated due to an undemocratic religion.

          1. They are often a couple of hundred years behind in certain developments, stuck in a religion that becomes easy to exploit and abuse.

Tunisia looked good for a while but seems to be heading in the wrong direction now.

Indonesia is perhaps otherwise the best example and is, I believe, the world’s largest Muslim country. But they are secular and do not let religion rule.

There are a few more, such as Senegal and Gambia, which are considered democratic.

            1. Imams base their power on keeping the population ignorant, and that is unsustainable in the long run, especially in today’s world where the world’s collective knowledge, and ignorance, is available on the internet.

          2. Then one can take an example in the opposite direction. The Vatican is not exactly an example of a flourishing democracy.

The Pope is indeed elected, but by a narrow elite belonging to the inner circle already. Once elected, he has virtually unlimited power.

        1. Until the 1970s, we had a great need for people, and that’s when many came from, among others, Finland, Italy, Greece, and others, and a little later also from the Balkans.

It was probably around 2008-2015 that it got a little out of hand, when it wasn’t directly about labor immigration.

But that’s how it is with everything, difficult to find a good balance so it swings back and forth while it’s also difficult to predict the economy and needs.

Schools have the same problem. When companies are most in need of a certain expertise and schools try to meet that demand, it’s too late. When students graduate, different skills are needed.

          1. Here in Finland, the demographic development doesn’t look very bright, so a little labor immigration wouldn’t be a bad idea, but then we should also have jobs for them.

There are also some people in the population who immediately start complaining that immigrants are taking their jobs, even though they prefer to sit and complain on some online forum rather than seek the jobs that immigrants are taking, because their ego thinks they are overqualified.

  8. Off-Topic, Sweden and the Economy

“The economic situation in Sweden continues to improve and ten out of thirteen indicators in the business cycle clock are on the rise, according to new statistics from SCB.

    – In recent months, the positive trend has become clearer. Several indicators have moved from the recovery to the expansion phase in the business cycle clock, says Johannes Holmberg, an economist at SCB in a comment.

In November, it was industrial orders and household consumption that were highest above their long-term trends. The employment indicator has moved from recession to recovery, although worked hours and employment continue to be below their long-term trends, according to SCB.”

  9. Off-Topic, Greenland

“France’s Minister of Finance Roland Lescure has warned his American counterpart Scott Bessent that any step towards annexing Greenland will mean that “a line has been crossed.” It would also jeopardize the EU’s economic relationship with the USA.

Lescure conveyed this message to Bessent at a meeting on Monday, as reported to the Financial Times.

“Greenland is a sovereign part of a sovereign country that is part of the EU. That’s not something to meddle with,” he told the newspaper.

At the same time, he emphasized that the EU and the USA still need to collaborate on, among other things, rare earth metals to reduce dependence on China.”

    1. “The United States’ special envoy to Greenland, Jeff Landry, plans to visit the island in March. In an interview with Fox News, Landry says that President Donald Trump is serious about his intentions to take over Greenland.

      – The President is serious. I think he has put his foot down. He has made clear to Denmark what he wants, and now it’s up to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance to reach an agreement, says Landry.

After the meeting between the USA, Greenland, and Denmark at the White House, there have been different interpretations of what the working group, which has been decided upon, should focus on. According to the White House, the work will revolve around how the USA should take control of Greenland.

Denmark, on the other hand, has emphasized that the group should find a way to meet the security desires of the Americans “with respect for red lines”.

      1. “The President is serious”

They have completely forgotten that there is a Congress and a Senate in the USA, Trump is acting as if he were an autocrat, maybe he is?

  10. Off-Topic, China + Canada = true!

“Canada will allow 49,000 Chinese electric cars to be imported under new, favorable tariff rates. Prime Minister Mark Carney announced this on Friday, after reaching a trade agreement with China’s leader Xi Jinping in Beijing, as reported by several international media outlets.

    – Canada has agreed to allow up to 49,000 Chinese electric cars into the Canadian market, with the most favorable national tariff rate of 6.1 percent, he said.

In return, China will reduce tariffs on Canadian canola oil.”
    https://omni.se/kanada-importerar-kinesiska-elbilar-enligt-nytt-tullavtal/a/wre55G

  11. “Ukraine’s DBR arrested a platoon commander in Donetsk for illegal arms sales. He tried to trade a MANPADS for a drone and sell two machine guns. At his home, agents found 549 drones. He faces prosecution for weapons trafficking.”

    1. Agree, it’s a shame that Ukraine’s response doesn’t result in 20-30 hours of blackouts mainly in Moscow.

I don’t know if Trump and co see Ukraine’s retaliations as proof that they don’t want an end to the war? After all, they refrained from bombing infrastructure in the first years.

  12. Regarding the Nobel Prize that Trump received.

“Do you know who also gave away his Nobel Peace Prize?
Knut Hamsen. Not familiar with the name? Perhaps you’ll recognise better who he gave it to. Dr Joseph Goebbels, in 1934.
    That ended well.”

    1. A Nobel Prize from the Nobel Prize Committee is an honor, a medal handed down second-hand is hardly something to boast about, you can find that at any flea market, right? OK, maybe not one with Nobel on it, but the principle…

      1. No, it’s absolutely nothing to brag about of course.

(Then it would surely be interesting for many to acquire as a collectible item but that’s a whole different story.)

  13. It was a bit unexpected if it is true, maybe as simple as having just one reason to seize his assets.

“👀❗️A high-ranking official from the Rosatom system is suspected of financing the Ukrainian army, – Russian media The state corporation Rosatom stated that it is assisting in the investigation into the case of an employee of Atomstroyexport, who was detained for financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Until 2007, Shcherbak was deputy head of the Sarov city administration for architecture and urban development, and later moved to Nizhny Novgorod’s Atomenergoproekt, where his responsibilities included organizing the construction of nuclear power plants.”

  14. Denmark’s foreign minister was apparently a chain-smoking legend.

He has made several statements and that country does not tiptoe around the USA at all.

    Hats off to them.

    1. Lex Postnord and SAS are probably Europe’s top negotiators, so the USA will probably leave those negotiations having given them Alaska.

      1. Danish are tough negotiators, we learned that already in school.

The problem is that Trump’s gang only listens to Trump, and Trump only listens to himself and those who agree with him, and possibly Putin.

I wonder how this will end, can Trump back down, as he usually does with tariffs, sanctions, etc.?, hence the name TACO, or has he taken this Greenland thing too far, put too much prestige in it?

There is a risk that he has become more careless now also when the Venezuela raids went so well.

        1. Unfortunately, I believe he will escalate. He receives pushback, but nothing serious, and he takes it as a sign to continue. In that way, he is quite similar to Putin.

    2. Island will probably send home the new ambassador of the USA. Referred to Iceland as the 52nd state of the USA.
      One-way ticket home probably.
But actually, it’s the 53rd state, right? Canada is probably the 52nd.

      1. It’s strange that Trump hasn’t been interested in the Azores? You’d be hard-pressed to find a more strategic island. Probably no oil there. 🤔

        1. Really, but as you write, they have no direct natural resources except for the pineapples (which had to replace the lemons after some severe frosts). Then they have free-range cows that produce excellent meat, one of the best filet mignons I’ve had was in the Azores.

They also have pleasant weather, although it’s mostly a comfortable temperature throughout the year.

          But nothing that Trump craves.

  15. Customs duties, customs duties, and more customs duties…

Meanwhile, Putin has recognized Greenland as Danish…

    An upside-down world.

“Donald Trump threatens to impose tariffs on countries that oppose the US plans to take over Greenland, international news agencies report. The US president also reiterates previous statements that the US “needs” Greenland for security reasons. Trump’s comments on Greenland have sparked strong reactions from both European leaders and American politicians. Several European countries have also begun sending military personnel to the island.”

    https://omni.se/a/XM830n

  16. Half-speed down here I see when world history has started to run.

Trump tried for what, the fifth time, to drum up a “Putin wants peace, Zelensky doesn’t” – NO one cared, no one.

He threatened with tariffs and the market didn’t move.

Has Trump’s ammunition been used up?

Now they’re trying with Greenland instead, everyone just fell asleep.

    1. “I’m sleeping in the fire” Obscure pop culture reference that the other blogger usually writes about.

Is the world starting to get tired of Trump?

      1. Honestly, I believe it. No normal person can handle his talk and threats right and left endlessly. He stirs in every pot he can reach, and he turns that mess into his politics. His own politics. Let’s see if I will receive my pension payment from the Kremlin or Washington in the future. According to MXT, Sweden would become the 67th state. It’s happening fast. Trump is leading us there. In the end, no one will have the energy to care.

        1. Same tactic as Russia uses but on turbo level. Throw out as much information as possible (preferably contradictory), in the end no one has the strength to resist.

    2. There is so much spinning around everywhere now so one becomes saturated. Trump has surpassed Putin by far in terms of craziness. Medvedev almost seems normal in comparison, and that is very bad.

Since the incident in Venezuela, Trump has gone completely bananas with his self-glorification and threats left and right, he seems more and more detached from reality and now believes he has the US war machine under his control.

ICE functions as Trump’s Gestapo, and the states do not want them there, I am afraid it is only a matter of time before there are shootouts between ICE and regular police.

His appointed ministers and officials almost compete to repeat Trump’s delusions because they know that their power comes from Trump, and they stand and fall with him. They talk about what the president wants, the president has decided, etc. etc.

What has happened to Congress and the Senate, is Trump now an autocrat? We see more and more Republican senators distancing themselves from Trump’s crazy statements, but what can they do?

What do you think will happen if Trump orders the army to go after Greenland, how likely is it that they will refuse to carry out the order?

Can Trump also make a U-turn on the Greenland issue, or has he already made up his mind? How will his supporters react if he backs down? I think he’s done for either way, somewhere deep down he knows it, and he plans to take as much of the world with him in the fall.

Even if the invasion of Greenland does not happen, trust in the USA, and especially the presidency, is depleted for a long time to come. As long as the US president has so much power, we cannot trust the USA, it has now been shown what happens when they vote in a madman.
