Russia attacked several Ukrainian cities during the night
During the night, at least six explosions were heard in Kyiv, but there are also reports of explosions from Odesa and Zaporizhzhia. In Odesa, infrastructure, an educational institution, and a high-rise building were damaged, among other things. At least three people were injured in the attack on Zaporizhzhia, according to the governor. Read more here.

The world’s largest container shipping company suspends shipments to Novorossiysk
The world’s largest container shipping company, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co, has now stopped shipments to and from Russia’s Black Sea port Novorossiysk after one of its ships was hit by a drone, according to reports from Bloomberg. The suspension came immediately after an attack on one of their ships that was heading to Novorossiysk. Read more here.

Ratcliffe warns Moscow against escalation
As already reported, Ratcliffe is said to have visited Moscow to warn Russia against escalating tensions with NATO members, especially Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. If true, we hope he has more success than his predecessor Bill Burns had when he visited Moscow in 2021 to warn Russia against attacking Ukraine. Kyiv Independent writes about it here.

Lukoil has now stopped production at all of their largest refineries
Russia’s fourth-largest oil refinery and second-largest gasoline producer has once again stopped processing crude oil after Ukraine’s latest drone attacks. Ukrainian forces attacked the Lukoil-Nizhegorodorgsintez refinery, also known as NORSI, on August 26. After this latest shutdown, Lukoil has now ceased production at all its major facilities. Ukraine continues to grind down the Russian army. As usual lately, there are high losses of soldiers, artillery, and soft vehicles, but today’s report stands out with special equipment; it’s rare to see double digits! Hopefully, all ten were radar systems!

    Interesting about this spin visit to Moscow by CIA chief Radcliffe. He came on an American military plane via Riga. It landed at Vnukovo Airport in Moscow. The purpose of the visit was surrounded by secrecy but now it seems that it was about warning Putin not to do anything adventurous in the Baltics. This according to Politico. Someone with insight into the negotiations had apparently stated this. The US seems to have grown tired of Putin’s unwillingness to end the war.

    Macron is coming to Stockholm on Monday to sign a contract together with Kristersson regarding four French frigates.
    To be honest, I am not particularly enthusiastic about that purchase. Some larger Visby corvettes would have been more to my taste. And more submarines.

      43 men crew on Visby. 125 on a frigate. At least double the crew is required. That will be about 1000 officers and sailors for 4 frigates. Where will you find them?
      The navy has problems staffing the ships it has today.

        Yes, I understand that large buy-sell deals were attractive for our established defense manufacturers, but now we need the drone weapon first, then the frigates.

        This is how all of Europe is acting now, the arms manufacturers sniff business and the politicians need to show decisiveness – it’s sooooo tiring 😐

    The attacks on the Russian petroleum industry are a key to bringing down the dirty bear. The question is how long it will take to get operations up and running again and for Ukraine to make a return visit.

      It probably varies greatly from a few weeks to half a year depending on what has been damaged and how much. If a main column is completely destroyed, they won’t fix a new one in a jiffy. Then maybe they have managed to expand production since the first refinery was hit a couple of years ago. They are partly dependent on foreign parts, but the sanctions don’t really work, so they will probably get hold of what they need.

Patriot is the only air defense missile that can shoot down Russian ballistic missiles. The US military “definitely” has no chance to protect Europe against sustained Russian attacks, and “very limited” ability to shoot down even a single missile off course, according to the sources. If Russia were to attack, for example, a military base or a power plant in Europe, NATO would face the same situation as Ukraine and be forced to “take blow after blow,” says the source. At the same time, a senior EU source tells AFP that European intelligence services see no signs that Russia is planning any military attacks against the rest of Europe.

      It’s a bit worrying about things like this, not that Russia has the capability and we have dismantled our defenses, but that there is a “high-ranking source” who believes that we are still living in a period of eternal peace.

    It’s probably quite simple – we need to correctly anticipate what kind of crap Putin intends to do in the next six months and be prepared to deliver our hardest slap.

    If we don’t, the world order as it has been accepted until today will collapse.

    Europe will not be overrun but Estonia, half of Latvia, Armenia, Georgia, Taiwan, countries in Africa, countries in South America and so on – all those who chose Europe when we asked them to choose.

    Armenia will probably get its application to the EU approved under Russian occupation, for example.

    Iceland doesn’t even have a defense force.

    It is important that we interpret Putin correctly from now on and not see him through ourselves – he is approaching the point where he can no longer handle what Ukraine throws at him and the Russian DNA then dictates increasing the level of violence a couple of notches, that is what has always been done and will always be done until it breaks.

    Streamlined decision chains, correct decision basis and increased readiness in our capabilities we intend to slap – all very difficult for the generation of eternal peace but absolutely necessary.

      Look historically, what has Putin said and what has he done, when has he told the truth?, when has he shown remorse?. When has he kept agreements? He has marinated himself in his own lies for so long that for him it is reality, everyone is against him and he has never done wrong.

      When the rat is cornered, he will strike at everything and everyone. I believe that Putin sees an expanded suicide as the last resort. To take as many with him as possible in death.

      Scale up the production of defense materiel according to the latest standards. That is, place orders for the materiel so the production will probably scale up automatically, order from Ukraine, and locate manufacturing around Europe.

    Kellogg is too generous – Kushner/Witkoff know exactly what they want and blatantly disregard the consequences, then they get spun around a few more times than they expected.

    But the own group’s gratification hits harder than doing their jobs.

    The government is assigning the Coast Guard to provide Ukraine with ten boats, writes the Ministry of Defence in a press release. “These are ten work and high-speed boats that will be donated to Ukraine. The boats will be handed over in their current condition after being de-identified and after agency-specific equipment has been removed.” The boats will be used for rescue services, including mine clearance.

    I like to lighten the mood a bit, as a counterbalance to Maggan’s and MXT’s constant attacks, but it can’t be fun to be the Danes or the Canada-led brigade in that area of eastern Baltics which the Balts themselves will not defend significantly.

    Especially when you know how prisoners of war come back and how little training there has been against the drone weapon.

    Everything is built around holding out and getting help, but the Danes or Canadians will not receive that within a reasonable time, and a reinforced brigade will not hold out very long against some army corps with attached drone capability and artillery.

    They will not be able to retreat undisturbed either, because RU usually infiltrates deeply.
