-not very fun with the flight approach when the airport was busiest, I then lived in my first rental apartment and it was loud.
-electric flight is probably on its way and an urban airport with electric flights feels positive.
-SWEDAVIA has probably invested heavily, 200 million SEK or something, in the airport?
-Arlanda is a long journey no matter how you look at it.
-if KLM/AF (who bought SAS) could start operating Bromma it would be quite competitive.
-Yes, always nice with housing and 22,500 units is probably almost too few, can’t more be built?
-the traffic situation in Västerort is already catastrophic today – add that and it will be a gridlock.
-you might as well shut down the Ulvsunda industrial area too and build there.
My thoughts on flying as a resident outside Stockholm –
I suspect that with electric flights and an urban airport, flying would probably increase and the train commuting today is moderately overloaded. When we go to Stockholm, the regional trains have always been reliable but other trains are regularly cancelled. Last time we were going up with the last train for a flight the next day, that train was cancelled and it caused some panic.
The problem is that when a train is cancelled there are no other tickets to buy, we always buy our tickets for the week before the weekend or early weekend, then it’s fully booked at the times you want to travel.
So when we fly, we book double tickets and hope that not both are cancelled, and with some luck we get a refund for one if it is cancelled.
Most cities have urban airports and if it turns out that electric flights become a cheap alternative as a “city hopper” you could introduce “air commuting” with hand luggage without the whole chain, like – on/off very quickly and then directly connecting bus or taxi into the city.
This already exists as flights for business travelers and the more affluent use the smaller airports around the metropolises but it would become a kind of “middle-class commuter” and many who live outside Stockholm are in the capital 1-2, max 3 days a week and could consider paying a few hundred more?
I would have a “Stockholm day” and then the rest of the week at home.
I think trains are quite expensive and above all, it’s easy to be stuck there with a cancelled departure and extremely difficult to find tickets.
Instead of express tracks maybe urban airports with “electric flight buses” can absorb some of the travelers so the train network can handle the transports?
Travel times are quite interesting and the shorter they can be, the more areas outside the big cities can become attractive to live in.
