5-year-old boy killed and 5 injured in Russian drone attack – Trump’s diesel imports from Russia may violate the law – Yandex’s third data center shuts down after the latest attack

11-year-old boy killed and five injured in Russian drone attack in Dnipropetrovsk region. The boy was killed when Russian forces dropped a projectile from a drone over the community of Pokrovske in the Nikopol district, according to regional representatives. Among the injured were also a 10-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy; both have been taken to hospital. Russia carried out over 30 attacks with drones and artillery against the Dnipropetrovsk region yesterday. In the Nikopol district, residential buildings, a gas station, and an ambulance were damaged in the attacks, and in the Kryvyj Rih district, private homes and infrastructure were damaged. In the Dnipro district, vehicles and agricultural machinery were damaged. Kyiv Independent.

Trump’s decision to import diesel from Russia faces strong opposition from several quarters, including in the US where both Democrats and Republicans are highly critical. “Will only lead to more bloodshed.” Lawmakers from both parties argued that the measure would undermine recently imposed sanctions against Russia, potentially give Moscow billions in revenue, and counteract Congress’s efforts to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine. Some lawmakers questioned whether the plan would actually lower fuel prices for Americans, and others say it is actually illegal.

In 2022, Joe Biden signed a law banning US imports of Russian energy products; the conditions for lifting the ban were tied to Russia agreeing to withdraw its troops from Ukraine.
“Congress banned imports of Russian energy in 2022. (The President) cannot just ignore that law to buy diesel from Putin,” said Senator Jeanne Shaheen, a Democrat on the Foreign Relations Committee. Kyiv Independent. We can only hope they can stop Trump and his imports.

The Russian tech giant Yandex’s data center in the Vladimir region has been completely shut down following the latest drone attack, reported the Russian state news agency TASS on October 11, citing the company. The reported attack is the third in a row against Yandex data centers in Russia, after confirmed attacks in the Ryazan and Kaluga regions on October 8 and 9. Earlier the same day, Yandex Cloud reported power outages in an availability zone linked to the company’s data center in Vladimir. Kyiv Independent.

  1. Good morning.
Nice loss figures for the Russian bastards.
Krasnov’s time is hopefully soon over. His boss in Moscow is starting to get desperate, and then everything becomes more transparent.

    1. Good morning!

Well, let’s hope that the midterm election goes in the right direction so that it becomes harder for him to do as he pleases.

  2. Nice to see resistance even within the USA. Fortunately, there are still thinking people left there as well.

Funny that it is illegal to import Russian energy products, I didn’t know that.

I suppose there will be a legal process around this that will take a few years.

  3. Trump’s negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner informed Ukraine about the US plans to lift sanctions on Russian diesel during a meeting last Friday, writes Kyiv Independent. The news was reportedly received with great surprise from the Ukrainian side, as the delegation had traveled to the US to discuss a possible peace agreement. This is stated by several Ukrainian sources to the newspaper.
    – It was not only our delegation there, but a European one as well. Everyone just sat there like idiots, says a source.
Trump’s decision has worsened the relationship between the US and Ukraine. Zelenskyy has been strongly critical, and the American president has, among other things, responded by suggesting that Ukraine should find a new president.
Another Ukrainian source believes that Ukraine could have agreed to a deal to stop attacking Russian energy infrastructure if Russia took the same measures.
    – It was so damn stupid to bury the idea of an energy ceasefire in this way, says the source about Trump’s decision.

  4. Experts’ verdict: No significant price drop

High fuel prices are putting pressure on the Republicans and US President Donald Trump ahead of the midterm elections in November.
But the diesel deal with Russia will not help pump prices, according to experts in the field.

High diesel prices in the USA.
“It’s like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.”

This is what Michael Lynch, researcher at the independent American energy research institute Eprinc, says about Trump’s heavily criticized agreement with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Russia will initially deliver 13.5 million barrels of diesel, and at a later stage another 22.5 million barrels, to the “American and global market,” according to Trump.

“If we get diesel from Russia, it practically means that their current customers won’t get it. They will then be forced to buy it from somewhere else, and that means the price will stay roughly where it is today,” he says.

Possibly the price will decrease locally in the USA, according to Lynch.

“But that only means the oil is being moved around, not that prices change globally or in the USA at large,” he continues.

Russia banned diesel exports in July to satisfy the domestic market, which has been plagued by Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries.

If Moscow assesses that it is now possible to export diesel again, global prices could possibly stabilize, according to Daniel Sternoff at CGEP, a research hub at Columbia University in New York.

“It can take the edge off prices, but it will not lower them significantly,” he says.

Moscow communicated last week that it was considering loosening export restrictions somewhat again to avoid overproduction.

According to Clayton Seigle, energy strategist and expert at the Washington-based think tank CSIS, Russia wants to sell off its summer diesel and make room for the winter diesel that can withstand the sometimes Arctic cold prevailing in the country.

Thus, the big winner of the agreement is Russia, he believes.

“I don’t think it’s enough to lead to an actual price drop in the USA or Europe, but it means Moscow can secure its revenues,” says Seigle.

Rising fuel prices due to the Iran war have become a hot political issue ahead of the US midterm elections. Especially the price of diesel has surged. On Friday, the average price in the USA was $6.28 per gallon (equivalent to about 16.6 SEK per liter). At the same time last year, the price was $3.68 per gallon.
