Russia carried out a large-scale attack on Kyiv overnight, using over 30 ballistic missiles and 8 hypersonic cruise missiles. One person was killed and thirteen were injured, but these numbers are likely to be revised upwards. Both businesses and residences were hit in the attack, and fires also broke out in several places.     A point to make is that much of the dispute between Syrskyi and Fedorov is about weapons contracts.

    Then Fedorov tore up directly inappropriate contracts and started running tender procedures. When I worked at Solna municipality for half a year during university, I went through costs with a new head of the unit – found 15 containers that had stood for 10 years and cost 25,000 SEK/month each that no one knew what they were for and the company invoiced monthly.

    Who was right is probably for the people to decide but that was probably the primary thing, and that Fedorov cleaned up hard at the MoD among contracts and the weapons industry’s contacts that they had bribed over time.

    Syrskyi was probably the person who could take the fight with him since his side places orders for a lot?

    Corruption cannot be avoided, it exists everywhere including with us as is well known and in Ukraine there is more money and poorer control due to the war but I think Zelensky should have handled it more neatly.

          The USA and Israel started the war by killing 40-50 people in Iran’s top leadership including Khamenei, then many seem upset that Iran threatened to kill Trump. I’m not really sure what kind of reaction one would have expected, especially from a country like Iran?

    Seems like the danger is over in Ukraine now?

    With a bit of luck, Fedorov will get the responsibility he should have and not a sidelined position that he won’t understand until a few months later – by then he probably won’t take any prisoners.

    If Zelensky is even a little smart, he will give corps commanders greater autonomy and then let Syrskyi handle operations beyond the corps’ responsibilities together with the special forces and the assault regiments he has retained direct control over. He is also forbidden from managing personnel and equipment as he pleases; that has been used as leverage to get obedient units.

    It should already have worked like that, but it doesn’t except among the “elite corps” who are strong enough that no one can touch them.

    3rd AC and Azov are always in the worst places and have a mile-long queue to get new personnel, but Syrskyi’s Skala “division” is almost a forced recruitment. That says quite a lot about the corporate culture and personnel care.

    Since Zelensky has been in talks with many corps commanders and other high-ranking officers, this is probably something they will settle on; after all, he hasn’t been with Syrskyi’s staff, for example.

    The absolutely most important thing is to maintain momentum and for Ukraine to carry out its offensives as planned, and you don’t get that with a new general staff that has to learn on the job and reboot all the systems.

    It’s also good that the parliament and citizens can put their foot down when needed because this fight was basically driven by those behind who wanted the money we taxpayers send and probably also some kind of positioning for upcoming elections in Ukraine where Zalizhny is a candidate.

    Of course, it’s a bit unfortunate that it is still like this, but since it is the same with us, maybe we’re talking about natural laws that you can’t really do anything about.

    We are actually approaching two exciting possible developments – 

    – Russian escalation if it comes.

    – Ukraine capitalizing on its drone advantage which has an expiration date.

    I don’t think lying low and waiting until 2027 benefits either UA or Putin; both will be in a worse position then if the opponent gets a chance to correct deficiencies now when both have essentially shown their cards.

    Europe knows that Putin will try an escalation against us if/when he can, and we drag ourselves forward like slow turtles with epoxy under our footpads, but even a clumsy turtle reaches the finish line eventually.

    Putin knows that Ukraine’s drone advantage harms them, and Russia is desperately trying to deploy its anti-drone weapon in the form of interceptors to units. When they arrive and work, Ukraine currently shoots down +90% of Russian drones.

    Then Russia is also trying to deploy its AI “loitering” drones that are fire and forget, and the day they exist in the same quantity as UA has, it will make it harder for Ukraine to move on the battlefield.

    For Russia’s part, they will continue to be bombed to ruins, and for Ukraine’s part, they risk frozen fronts without a possibility to advance – probably unattractive for either party.

    It’s actually a bit funny that here in Europe we give all contracts to large established weapons corporations who are now trying to claim the drone weapon, so exactly what Fedorov tried to get in Ukraine we are doing too 😀

    Those French frigates, I think, are a good example of how to redirect the budget we should have used for the drone weapon until we have it, then we could have bought frigates.

      Russia currently accounts for approximately 12–13 percent of the EU’s total gas imports, which means that the EU still imports around 52 billion cubic meters of Russian gas annually.
      This marks a dramatic decrease compared to the situation before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, when Russia supplied about 45 percent of the union’s gas.
      At the same time, there is a temporary but noticeable increase in imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) during the first half of 2026.

        By 2027, there will finally be a total ban in the EU on the import of Russian gas. 

        It has been phased and stopped in stages depending on the length of the contracts.
        It has therefore not been possible to sign new contracts, and those with short durations were stopped first.

        Currently, only imports under the “long” contracts that are still valid are allowed, but on January 1, 2027, there will be a ban on LNG, and on September 30, there will be a ban on what is delivered via pipeline. 

        After that, it is important to control imports to ensure that less scrupulous countries do not buy from any country where the Russian gas has only been “repackaged” or diluted.

      If you have an antenna pointing upwards (towards the satellites) on the drone, you need to jam the GPS signal between the drone and the satellite; I recall that it is quite tricky.

    A Turkish-owned cargo ship sailing under the flag of Guinea-Bissau has been hit in a Russian attack in the Black Sea, according to the Ukrainian navy in a statement.
    The bulk carrier Golden Leo was hit by three missiles, causing a fire on board. Five people were killed.
    An additional eight crew members have been evacuated to a hospital in Ukrainian Odesa.
    The ship was loaded with grain and had left the war zone when it was attacked.

      Wonder if it might affect Turkey’s relations with Russia. Erdogan has tried to play on both sides during the war and has had no problems conducting trade with them.
