Russia has attacked universities in Kyiv with ballistic missiles, 1 dead 15 injured – Unusually low Russian losses

Russia continued its terror attacks and during the night they hit a university area, a major bridge, an administrative building, and medical facilities, resulting in one person killed and 15 injured.

At least one person was killed and 15 people have been injured. Among the injured are an ambulance paramedic, a medical technician, and a 20-year-old university student. Nine of the injured are medical personnel who have been hospitalized, according to Kyiv’s mayor Vitali Klitschko.

The mayor later reported an attack on the city’s southern bridge over the Dnipro River, one of Kyiv’s main traffic routes. The bridge connects the city’s eastern and western sides and is crucial for the daily commutes of hundreds of thousands of residents. The bridge and infrastructure related to its subway system were damaged during the night, Klitschko said. Train traffic on the bridge has been temporarily suspended. Kyiv Independent.

The UN has, albeit several years too late, concluded that the Russian attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure constitute a war crime. In recent months, Russian forces have strategically escalated attacks on Ukraine’s energy grid ahead of the freezing winter months to destroy power plants, transformer stations, and gas infrastructure, despite US President Donald Trump demanding a ceasefire in the energy sector, writes Kyiv Independent.

Last winter, the Kremlin also focused its attacks on energy sources, leaving millions of Ukrainians without power in temperatures as low as minus 21°C.

Russian losses

Unusually low losses. There have been a few occasions where we have seen suddenly lower losses, but then a day or a few days later there have instead been unusually high ones. Of course, there have also been unusually low losses without subsequently seeing unusually high ones. One theory I have is that during intense fighting there is no time for complete reporting, and therefore it has lagged behind. At the same time, the number of combat engagements according to the morning report below is about normal, so there is no clue there. It will be interesting to see the coming days.

  • 1400 KWIA
  • 21 Artillery systems
  • 2 MLRS
  • 1 Air defense systems
  • 1794 UAVs
  • 7 UGVs
  • 232 Vehicles and Fuel tanks
  • 1 Special equipment

We continue to stop the Russian armed aggression.

Join the defense forces! Glory to Ukraine!

Comment:
84 localized attacks out of a total of 196 leaves 112 unlocalized, resulting in a ratio of 112 / 84 ≈ 1.33.

  1. ** 🙏🇺🇦 Zelensky: The number of injured after the Russian strike on the university campus and surrounding area risen to 12, five of them students and university staff. While emergency services were helping people, the Russians used ballistic missiles again.

In total, there were 16 ballistic missiles that night. More than 280 drones. Unfortunately, there are casualties, there are hits in Kyiv, including on the Southern Bridge. A serious escalation in the Russian operation against our logistics.

There were also strikes in Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Odesa, Chernihiv, Sumy, Donetsk, Kherson and Chernivtsi regions. Almost everywhere, Russian targets are energy, logistics and ordinary urban infrastructure.**

  2. ** 🇵🇱 Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski: There is a myth that has been successfully planted in the West that Russia always wins. But things don’t always go their way. They lost the Crimean War. They lost the war against Japan.

🇵🇱 Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski: They emerged from World War I with their tails between their legs. They lost their invasion of Poland. They lost Afghanistan. And they lost the Cold War. So things can turn out very differently.
    1. My comfort in the darkness: for every robot towards Kyiv, there is one less left to use against something strategic.

Ryz wastes capacity on terror bombing without gaining anything other than the people’s wrath.

This is how you lose a war.

    2. And Russia would have lost World War II if it had not received military support from the Allies/USA. Without which Stalingrad would have been called Hitlerfurt am Volga.Russia sanctions guide

  3. The temporary ceasefire in the occupied Ukrainian city of Oleshky has begun, reports the BBC. The hope is that the absence of fighting and violence will enable food deliveries and the evacuation of civilians. According to Sky News, pets are also being flown out of the city with the help of Ukrainian drones. So far, the ceasefire, which was negotiated with the assistance of the US First Lady Melania Trump, has been respected, according to both Ukraine and Russia. However, new attacks were directed at a bridge and subway infrastructure in the capital Kyiv on Tuesday, Reuters writes.

  4. “Russia’s President Vladimir Putin plans to hold a phone call with Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Finland’s President Alexander Stubb, according to reports to Bloomberg.

The call could take place as early as today and comes after the US’s efforts to resume peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. If the meeting takes place, it will be the first time European leaders have spoken with Putin since Macron’s meeting last summer.

None of the governments in Moscow, Oslo, or Helsinki have commented on the reports.”

    1. putte might want the peace prize? If he stops fighting, he should probably be qualified for it? Might be worth a call with the prime minister who has nothing to do with it. *

Good, we cannot let everything related to semiconductors etc. go to Asia and the USA.

“The German technology company Infineon is investing the equivalent of just over twelve billion kronor to expand its semiconductor factory in Villach, Austria.

The investment will enable large-scale production of gallium nitride semiconductors on 300-millimeter wafers, reports Bloomberg.

The semiconductors will be used, among other things, to reduce energy consumption in AI data centers. Production is expected to start at the end of 2027.

The EU is financing about one third of the investment.”

  6. Marc Rubio Athens 7 October
    https://youtube.com/shorts/Oa6KLAi9GZE?is=22_A7MO3nf8HaODL

Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that the West has lost confidence in the qualities that made it powerful, arguing that Western nations have become ashamed of their history, weakened their militaries and surrendered too much sovereignty to global institutions. “Today, too much of the West has forgotten this quality,” he said Wednesday during an address before the Acropolis in Athens. “Over time, we in the West came to feel ashamed of the very things that made us exceptional.” The secretary invoked the Ancient Greek concept of “thumos” — which he described as “the fire of passion, strength, courage, pride” — and said the West now faces a choice that will shape the next century. “The course we take will determine whether the West maintains its place at the head of the world or resigns itself to a future of atrophy and servitude and decline,” he said. “We will either choose to act now or lose the choice to act at all.”

    1. Rubio is good. A presidential candidate. He spoke to Europeans at another large meeting about six months ago and received a standing ovation after a similar speech. Europe is governed by liberal eurocrats/technocrats who have lost touch with their respective peoples.

      1. Rubio basically said the same things that created quite a few headlines when Vance did it the year before, but in a calm and eloquent manner.

    2. Well, Rubio is good. He could probably become a good presidential candidate. He has also been able to keep a little distance from Trump’s craziness. However, I think he holds back a bit and does not show his full potential so as not to be perceived as too independent from the orange leader.

What he says during the speech is probably a more gilded version of the message previously heard. The importance of global institutions should be reduced, the right of the strong should be what counts. Small countries should submit to the will of the big countries, and so on.

A cold future is coming for small countries that are not part of any larger alliance, like the EU. The EU and the Euro have their flaws, but it is an advantage to be able to show a united front when the old great powers try to divide the world again.

      1. The USA is a counterpart to the EU, considering that several states are comparable in size geographically, economically, and population-wise to the countries in the EU. California is even one of the world’s largest economies. Culturally and linguistically, the American states may seem very similar. If we exclude military defense and focus politically, the American member states have more self-determination in relation to the federation of the USA than a European member country has in relation to the EU.

  7. This feels like the right tactic and will hopefully limit the Russians’ access/use of various weapons in the long run.

It’s better to nip it in the bud.

  8. Stubb and Norway have talked with Putin, not in an official EU capacity.

Trying to break the US monopoly but why give that bastard oxygen 😐

  9. Response to MXT above,

DenGamle thought it would add more mystery to the book to seem inaccessible but I couldn’t live with this dark lie, broke down immediately and now I see the light 😳

  10. Alexander Stubb and Jonas Gahr Støre’s message during the phone call with Vladimir Putin was that an immediate de-escalation is necessary when it comes to the attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector and infrastructure. This is written by Volodymyr Zelenskyy on X.

The Ukrainian president also thanks the countries for their support and peace efforts.

“Finland and Norway, both bordering Russia, have a special interest in well-functioning and reliable security arrangements,” writes Zelenskyy.

  11. The former Ukrainian politician, and now Russian citizen, Dmitrij Svjatasj is currently held in the Swedish Migration Agency’s detention, reports Expressen.

Svjatasj is said to have traveled to Sweden last week to attend a Stevie Wonder concert in Stockholm. But at passport control at Arlanda, he was stopped by border police.

The formal reason is an entry ban issued by the police in the Schengen area. But Svjatasj’s lawyer Mark Safarjan believes it is political.

    – This guy is like one of the most wanted in Ukraine and they know that, that’s why they are doing this, he tells the newspaper.

Two years ago, Svjatasj was sentenced in absentia to twelve years in prison for several crimes.

  12. I generally feel that things are starting to become quite chaotic, imagining something like the 2008 financial crisis combined with Russian hybrid warfare and increasing global conflict, all at the same time?

I understand that everyone in different positions has their own constraints and priorities, but if there is ever a time in a very long while when we must pull in the same direction, it is now. COVID was a single event, now we have what, 4-5 happening simultaneously moving forward.

I still think it’s very simple: collapse Russia through Ukraine and at least calm will settle for us in Europe when they start consuming each other instead.

Now we are in an active hybrid war that is escalating and then we MUST unlock more support for UA – Canada has already thrown down the gauntlet, the UK is now letting its missiles strike targets in Russia, and Sweden is providing Gripen without geographical restrictions – but it is still isolated and at the same time it actually seems like Europe is working towards a ceasefire.

From the RU side of the field, we are probably already at war with them and the worst possible outcome is a ceasefire and then the EU sending troops into eastern Ukraine, which RU will never allow and will oppose in every way. If we back down, we will once again have deceived Ukraine and they seem to have taken a more pragmatic stance towards us and the USA now.

We are stingy with money, Taurus is not coming, it is not very coordinated but different countries are joining forces with support, we ask UA not to bomb in the Baltic Sea, we turned our backs on Belarus and generally we are reactive to the economic and hybrid warfare now rolling over us.

Now the big question is whether we are being restrained to preserve integrity, honor, and democracy but at the same time bring down Russia, or if we are being cowardly.

I think it is the former when we had the Tidö agreement for 4 years that supported UA almost the most in the world but now politically we are in a preschool roughly where, in the worst case, fringe parties become kingmakers – apparently it is that fragile.

I find it hard to see that fringe parties are that at all – then it has failed and in half of Europe fringe parties are strongly on the rise. Either you want racial laws or revolution, just choose.

If this had been a runway without full war in UA it would have been one thing but now it is a high-intensity war in our backyard so I cannot see it the way one should – that we are responsible.

There are infinitely many ways to slack off when it comes to this great war of our time, not least budget constraints and now the defense forces will probably have to save instead of opening the wallet.

The frigates are madness, we should be expanding personnel and the drone weapon, not allocating funds for frigates and the defense forces having to start saving – this is still the Tidö agreement’s politics.

  13. Sitting with some defense tweeters on X and they are happy that the USA has 1000 personnel in Lithuania.

The Daugava line and what lies north of it is completely unknown to them.

Have completely stopped discussing Russian capability vs. our capability with them because then they go through the roof.

Explaining to them that our GRK version of the CV90 is just a big target triggered a storm of hatred.

Now we bought frigates and the budget is allocated for that, then the Armed Forces have to cancel exercises, impose hiring freezes on civilians, and cancel equipment purchases.

Exercises are being mocked at Zoom meetings, which is an exaggeration, but there should be intense training, not the opposite.

    This is COMPLETELY INCOMPREHENSIBLE.

    1. If Störe and Stubb had had the Baltic prime ministers with them when talking to Putin, I would have thought it was a good initiative. It’s not just Norway and Finland that share a border with Russia, but very much also the Baltic states. They should have been included. Maybe they didn’t want to? In this case, I think Mette is right in her criticism.

  14. Sigh.

“Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen faces resistance in the neighboring country after she criticized Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Finland’s President Alexander Stubb for talking to Vladimir Putin.

In a text titled ‘Shut up now, Mette!’ the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten’s political editor Kjetil B Alstadheim directs scathing criticism at the Danish Prime Minister.

Frederiksen’s criticism concerns, among other things, that Norway and Finland are acting ‘solo,’ but Alstadheim thinks she is ‘a bit too quick on the trigger.’ He points out that Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky later thanked them for the initiative.

‘So the one who went solo was Frederiksen. If she is interested in keeping Europe together, she did not contribute to that herself.’

Alstadheim argues that Frederiksen ‘in practice’ wants American negotiators to represent Europe, and he wonders how she can do that after everything that has happened around Greenland.”

    1. Like a damn preschool.

No one should talk to Putin at all.

Just give more weapons to Ukraine.

Then the USA can do whatever they want.

      1. Can agree with that. The only right thing is to hit Putin and Russia so hard that they are forced to back down, otherwise they will never stop. Talking will not solve this except possibly temporarily.

      2. It’s just that thing about if you are going to negotiate with a Russian, you should start by hitting him in the face, otherwise he won’t respect you.

However, I think it’s probably positive that someone from here in Europe has some contact with Putin.

Putin needs to hear the truth from someone, especially now after Trump has gone full-Putin. If Putin doesn’t talk to the Europeans or the Ukrainians, he is sitting in an echo chamber, because the Americans only say what Putin wants to hear.

    2. NOTE! I was not sighing over Mette’s criticism.

I was sighing over the fact that the newspapers are starting to argue about it. We need to stick together and then it is unnecessary for them to come up with that kind of writing. It leads nowhere.

    3. Before Sweden owned Norway, the country was owned by Denmark.

      — In 1536, Norway’s formal independence ended. It was decided that Norway would no longer be its own kingdom in personal union with Denmark, but **a Danish province**, which was part of Denmark. Consequently, the Norwegian tax lands Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland also became parts of Denmark, and were not definitively part of Norway.

The Faroe Islands and Greenland are still part of the Kingdom of Denmark today.

  15. ** This is what Kyiv’s Pivdennyi (Southern) Bridge looks like after a Russian attack. Residents are crossing it on foot to get to work. Last night,Russia attacked Ukraine with 16 ballistic missiles&more than 280 drones. Kyiv was the main target. Sixteen people were injured and one person was killed.

Russians struck a university campus&the surrounding area in the city. 5 of those injured are university students&staff members. Two second-year students have already undergone surgery after suffering severe injuries, and another neurosurgical operation is needed, according to the university’s rector.

A metro station, schools, a dormitory, an office building, residential buildings, and other civilian facilities were damaged in Kyiv. One of the offices of DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy company, was also damaged. **

  16. It is probably time for a government soon that does not have fringe wave riders, as interest rates are on the rise and the krona is weakening.

The Tidö agreement with the Sweden Democrats as a supporting party was apparently considered okay by the market, and many indicators pointed in the right direction.

If it becomes a weak Social Democratic government with strong influence from the Green Party and the Left Party, it will probably be the opposite: interest rates up and the krona down, which then leaves less in the wallet despite promises to the contrary. Then it remains to raise taxes, which they have already announced, by the way.

If they then make the general mistake of hitting with “billionaire taxes,” tax revenue will instead decrease, and then they will have to raise taxes for everyone who would have gotten more in their wallets.

Layoffs are also on the rise, right?

If we are unlucky, we will be punished for unpredictable politics if we do not show leadership soon; maybe a weak krona will increase exports?

  17. Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Finland’s President Alexander Stubb said nothing new about Ukraine in the conversation with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin. This is what Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told Russian media according to Reuters. – Europe just wants to interfere in the negotiation process, he says. Furthermore, Lavrov says that the “information war” around Ukraine will continue and likely escalate going forward.

    https://omni.se/a/778jVW

  18. Hmm. I wonder if both V and MP are starting to be seen as problems that complicate the formation of the government. Higher taxes and new environmental requirements are not something the business community wants. These are new times now. Enough is enough. Didn’t Jacob Wallenberg say after the election that he did not want a red-green government? I seem to remember that. It carries weight. And I believe the business community is acting behind the scenes. To be continued.

    1. It is primarily (and for a long time, actually since the 1980s when the Social Democrats reached 50% on their own, along with the Left Party) a rightward shift in public opinion, regardless of how you count it, resulting in a problem forming a government with tax-increasing parties.

  19. Bingo for Putin and a blow to Nordic unity. This is how the conversation between the leaders of Norway and Finland and Vladimir Putin is described. “Now Stubb must quickly call and explain himself,” says a Danish expert.

Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Finnish President Alexander Stubb had barely hung up the phone after the conversation with Vladimir Putin on Tuesday before irritated reactions came. “Not coordinated,” said Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. “A conversation that could split the European voice,” said Ulf Kristersson.

A very problematic conversation that wounds Scandinavian and European relations, says the Danish senior researcher Flemming Splidsboel Hansen. He specializes in Russian foreign policy at the Danish Institute for International Studies in Copenhagen.

    – Europe has always agreed not to call Putin. We do not talk to him like this, period. And then we do it anyway. Of course, the disappointment is great in Denmark, and now there will be Nordic and European division.

That is exactly what Putin is aiming for, he says.

    – His advisors probably saw a chance to create new cracks in Europe when the question of the phone call came up. It is strange that Stubb and Støre did this without coordinating with allies.

Is that why Putin agreed to the conversation?

    – This is a fantastic opportunity for Putin. He loves this kind of thing. He loves when people approach him and ask for talks.

Alexander Stubb himself said at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon that “we inform all allies.”

    Portrayed as a Russian victory

Europe has tried to isolate Putin for over four and a half years, says Flemming Splidsboel Hansen. Now Putin can portray the phone call as Europe accepting that the isolation has failed and is prepared to make sacrifices. According to Splidsboel Hansen, the Kremlin is now expected to spread a propaganda image that “Europe realizes the war is lost.”

    – It is already being presented as a big victory in Russian media. I don’t see the phrase “begging on their bare knees,” but that is how it will be used in the propaganda.

Why did Støre and Stubb call Putin if they knew it would create cracks in Europe? Splidsboel Hansen says the explanation is Donald Trump. He says everything points to the US wanting to end the war, partly due to financial interests, and wants Europe on board. Some, like Sweden’s former Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, believe Trump has “gone full Putin.”

    – We are in a very alarming situation where Trump seems to be approaching a deal with Putin. Norway and Finland perhaps understood the seriousness during the Oslo meeting and realized something had to be done before it was too late, says Splidsboel Hansen.

It is the first time since July 2025 that Putin has spoken with a European leader allied with Ukraine.
It is the first time since July 2025 that Putin has spoken with a European leader allied with Ukraine. Photo: Mikhail Metzel/AP
He says the American pressure on Europe is now the toughest since Trump took office. He does not believe Støre and Stubb agreed to any sacrifices during the conversation with Putin but says European allies are now waiting for an explanation.

    – Stubb must quickly assure his allies that he has not sold them out or is prepared to make sacrifices to Putin.

“Putin is playing along with Trump’s game”

But Splidsboel Hansen fears that Tuesday’s phone call with Putin could be the beginning of a European breakdown in views on how Russia should be handled and the war in Ukraine ended.

    – In the worst case, the European line fragments and some countries completely break with the policy that has applied since the war began. There will be no more sanction packages and Zelensky accepts freezing the front line, even as part of a peace agreement.

Another perspective is given by Julie Wilhelmsen, professor of political science at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI). She is an expert on Russian foreign and security policy and believes Putin agreed to the phone call to appear constructive and willing to compromise in front of Trump.

    – He wants to lead Trump further in this process. Putin is playing along with Trump’s game.

She finds Mette Frederiksen’s reaction surprising. Since the war began, Europe has emphasized the importance of sticking together and having a unified line, she says.

    – That is why I am surprised that Frederiksen chooses to raise this publicly in this way. She should probably contact Støre and Stubb and talk directly with them.

    Two lines crystallize

Julie Wilhelmsen says there is a lack of understanding of how diplomacy in conflict situations can work, and that larger actors are now trying to adopt that tradition.

    – In that tradition, it is much more important to work quietly, otherwise you cannot achieve anything. I think in a way they are trying to establish another type of traditional diplomatic process right now. In a way, it is connected to Trump’s statements.

She says two different lines are crystallizing on how the war in Ukraine should end. Some believe continued rearmament and deterrence is the only way, while others see an increasing need for a negotiation process.

    – No matter how much European NATO countries can support the Ukrainians militarily and economically, it is only Ukrainian lives that are sacrificed on the battlefield in Ukraine. There are well over two million dead and injured on both sides. We must think more broadly to end this war. Military deterrence is not the only way.
    https://www.svd.se/a/rMx9wm/stubb-och-stoere-samtalar-med-putin-vacker-irritation

    1. It is problematic if it has not been discussed more “broadly”. As I understand it, it was after the discussions in Norway with Witkoff and Zelensky and after Witkoff’s crawling to Putin that it was decided that someone must also present Europe’s opinion. They also discussed with Zelensky both before and after they talked with Putin.

Letting Trump’s regime negotiate peace is like Mussolini negotiating peace between Germany and England during World War II.

Yes, it is too early to talk to Putin, he hasn’t been beaten enough yet, but since Mango Mussolini has interfered to save Russia, someone sensible must try to talk to Putin.

The situation is probably precarious. If Trump manages to get an agreement over our and Ukraine’s heads, we will see LNG stops, Starlink stops, high tariffs, and troop withdrawals until Europe and Ukraine agree to it.

We will certainly also be punished if we try to negotiate without the USA, but that could throw a wrench in Trump’s and Putin’s partnership negotiations, and Ukraine should then fare better from Trump’s wrath. We can buy time until after the midterm elections when hopefully it will be harder for Trump to push through his craziness.

The USA saved Russia during World War II, and now they are trying to save Russia again. I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump pays for the diesel with weapons, like air defense.

      1. Clearly, Putin is pinning his hopes on Trump and his henchmen to win the war for him. Hope is the last thing to leave Putin. It is a sad spectacle.

  20. ”Under no circumstances can there ever be a return to ‘business as usual’ with Russia. Poland will never agree to that,” said Poland’s Finance Minister Andrzej Domański during the fourth Polish-German economic forum, held in Warsaw on Monday.
Domański said that the world is changing faster than ever and added: “we are facing new geopolitical, strategic, and technological challenges. Europe must be ready to meet these challenges.”

BREAKING: Putin’s conversation with Norwegian and Finnish leaders has been revealed:
-Putin reportedly ranted to the European leaders about how they were prolonging the war by aiding Ukraine, he reportedly lectured them extensively for over an hour on root causes and NATO expansion; the call was only meant to be 20 minutes long.
-Putin then refused conversations on an immediate ceasefire claiming Russia had to secure the whole of the Donbas region before this was to be considered.
-The leaders only agreed on a direct phone line to be kept open but made no progress on other issues due to the Russian leader’s response.
-Putin praised the US on the call for brokering a ceasefire with Russia over Olesky in Kherson region.
-It should also be noted that Putin described the frontline situation as Russian forces having all the momentum.
