The G7 meeting appears to have been successful for Ukraine. It involves, among other things, arms deliveries, primarily in air defense, surveillance, and long-range weapons.
There is also talk of granting Ukraine expanded manufacturing licenses for military production, but this is somewhat vague, with officials saying they are “ready to consider” it.
They also plan to take a tougher stance on sanctions, mainly concerning oil and gas. They will continue to support Ukraine’s energy security ahead of the coming winter. Regarding Ukraine’s EU membership, formal accession negotiations are now set to begin.
Everything sounds good, of course; it remains to be seen what it will yield in practice. Not much was said about possible upcoming peace negotiations; Trump says he thinks Putin should make an agreement, but how that agreement is supposed to look was not clarified.

Russian assault forces appear to be having increasing difficulty maintaining offensive pressure against their prioritized front sections in Donetsk/Luhansk, including Pokrovsk, Huliaipole. The peaks are lower, occur less frequently (compare the period before Christmas in the chart above), and the troughs deeper, which together form a flattening/decreasing trend. The Ukrainian pressure, calculated as the difference between the Russian localized pressure (according to the list below) and the total number of battles, remains above 100, which seems to provide support.

Belarus dictator Aleksandr Lukashenko, who is a close ally of Vladimir Putin, says that Russia and Ukraine must compromise to reach a peaceful end to the war in an interview with Al Arabiya.
He also apologizes for previous statements about Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and says that Belarus is “extremely vulnerable” if Ukraine were to attack.
Military analyst Jörgen Elfving tells DN that Lukashenko’s statement may be a sign that he has realized that the war is not going well for Russia. It could also be an attempt to downplay his own role or improve relations with the USA.
But it is not impossible that Lukashenko coordinated his responses with Russia first, and that it is actually a way for the Kremlin to gauge reactions in the West, he says.
– If Lukashenko has anchored this with Putin, one could possibly see it as a Russian test balloon.

And Maskirovka. It is obvious that Lukashenko is Putin’s man. He otherwise lacks any legitimate authority in Belarus without that mandate.
💯
Future outlook: Lukashenko is rewarded with eased sanctions by the USA, thereby granting Russia free access to imported products.
Some risk of that.

Anyone know what the peace deal with Iran looks like?
What a betrayal against the citizens of Iran who rose up – a monumental betrayal.
John Bolton does not mince words.

World Cup in football, not meetings, you mean?
UA’s advantage in ew and drones has an end date.
RU is working hard on both, especially autonomous medium-range drones.
Next year they will probably catch up – a ceasefire is a bad idea then.
Macron seemed to be forceful at the G7?
Yes, it is important that Ukraine manages to take advantage of the upper hand but of course continues to develop so they can stay one step ahead of Russia.
Iran really looks like it will be the winner. They are apparently also going to receive a fund of 300 billion USD.
Now Iran knows that the USA and Israel cannot defeat them, and they can continue to oppress the population. Of course, they have lost a lot of military equipment and other things, but it has probably cost the USA and the rest of the world enormously more.
However, I am waiting until the actual agreement is published, it is supposed to be released on Friday if it is signed. But it certainly looks like it has been a totally idiotic, pointless, and failed war that has primarily cost thousands of lives but also caused costly destruction and created economic problems for half the world. Money that could have been put to good use.
“The news agency Bloomberg has published what it claims is a draft of the 14-point agreement that Iran and the USA are formally to sign on Friday.
The first point in the agreement states that the countries and their allies immediately end the war on all fronts – including Lebanon, which Israel has attacked with the aim of eliminating the terrorist group Hezbollah.
In points four and five, the countries agree that the USA will lift its blockade of Iranian ports and that Iran will open the Strait of Hormuz for international traffic.
The other points establish other parts of the agreement that several media outlets have previously reported on through sources. This includes, among other things, an investment fund of about 300 billion dollars – equivalent to around 2,800 billion kronor – which is to be established to rehabilitate the Iranian economy.”

But,… not many people have talked that much about Epstein lately. So Trump’s war goals are probably fulfilled after all. What are thousands of dead, a lot of used-up equipment, and 300 billion dollars of someone else’s money when you can buy your way out, or at least a few months’ respite from the Epstein affair?
Yes, of course you are right, I didn’t think of that! He is not stupid Trump!
It is some Israeli ex-agent who claims that Bibi has a lot of Epstein kompromat on leading US figures that he will use to stop the deal with Iran.

He has probably received the material from Russia, which desperately wants to keep the oil price up.
There are those who believe that Epstein was part of an Israeli operation starting already during the Cold War with the purpose, among other things, of spreading knowledge and technology from the US nuclear weapons program in New Mexico to Israel to give them nuclear weapons capability. Probably initially with the US’s consent, but later perhaps expanded and gained connections to Russia. The theory claims that Robert Maxwell was a player in this and Ghislaine is the heir to his role and possibly rather she who recruited Epstein than the other way around, so to speak.

“If the US and Iran actually sign the 14-point understanding agreement that Bloomberg published on Wednesday – and which is claimed to be the latest official draft – it means a ‘stinging defeat for the US and Donald Trump.’ This is said by Fredrik Meiton, who is head of the North Africa and Middle East program at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs, in an interview with DI. – I read it as a complete capitulation on the part of the US. It is enormous concessions, says Meiton, referring among other things to the points that mean the US will work to lift several international sanctions against Iran. Similar assessments are heard from several quarters around the world. In a column for Bloomberg, analyst John Authers writes that ‘few believed it would be the US, not Iran, who would wave a white flag.’ ‘It is hard to see what this American escapade has achieved, other than killing a very old man,’ Authers continues, referring to the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei at the beginning of the war.”
https://omni.se/a/ArpO1n
He certainly seems to be on the right track to realize the point in Project 2025 that concerns the US scaling down its presence in the Middle East and handing over security responsibility to the local actors… 😉
😂 Look there, he’s sharing part of his plan!
Then he probably hopes for the Nobel Peace Prize now that he has stopped the terrible war!
Well, as it looks now, it is probably a form of capitulation.
One has to wonder why they even attacked Iran in the first place.
Was it because Israel wanted help? Or was it because he wanted to take control over the oil? Nuclear weapons?
Was it Putin whispering in Trump’s ear that Iran soon would have nuclear weapons to lure him into a war that would stop arms deliveries to Ukraine, reduce the US’s engagement in Europe, raise the oil price, make the world dependent on Russian oil, gas, and fertilizer, and ultimately create a wave of refugees?
Why was he in such a hurry to end it? Was it because he saw that Iran was a tougher opponent than, for example, Venezuela, and he didn’t want to make the same mistake as Putin?
Was it because the closing of Hormuz caused his popularity to decrease ahead of the midterm elections?
Was it because he saw that Putin is losing in Ukraine and wants to interfere in the peace agreements again to save what can be saved of what Putin promised him?
Was it because he wants to take Cuba as soon as possible, which should be easier?
Looking at the agreement with Iran, it is quite clear that it is dictated by Iran. Now they obviously have 60 days to discuss, and Trump had said that they would not get a cent from the US for reconstruction. We’ll have to see then where the billions will come from.
Iran was supposed to discuss the status of Hormuz with Oman, but most likely they will now have control over Hormuz and will use a blockade as leverage when needed.
The US was supposed to withdraw troops from Iran’s vicinity, but there was nothing specific about how close, so there may be a few fewer allies there.
Iran “promises” not to develop nuclear weapons, and its existing enriched uranium will be diluted or taken care of. I wonder how much has been hidden that no one knows about?
The war in Lebanon is to be ended, and they had probably mentioned that Israel must withdraw.
What apparently Trump and his historically ignorant entourage have not understood or included is that Hezbollah should also be thrown out of Lebanon. Hezbollah is there only to mess with Israel, just like Hamas in Palestine. So, there will be no lasting peace in Lebanon as long as Hezbollah is there.
I don’t think this agreement will last long..
One certainly wonders.
Israel can hardly accept the state of affairs.
Listened to Trump report tonight.
– Trump would be “completely crazy” to make this next move.
Former British Army Colonel Hamish de Bretton-Gordon joins Maddie Hale to analyze Trump’s proposed deal with Iran, the rising tensions with Benjamin Netanyahu, concerns that Iran’s proxy groups may rearm and seek revenge, and whether the deal leaves Tehran stronger while key issues, such as the country’s nuclear program and regional influence, are postponed to the future.

The reason for Trump’s haste is reasonably that the oil market is about 4 weeks away from all stocks hitting bottom with an oil price shock > 200 USD/barrel, which would cause the world economy to enter something like a 1930s depression. He has been fighting hard in recent weeks to try to keep oil prices from soaring and probably saw that this game would not hold any longer. 300 GUSD is a cheap price in purely economic terms. Geopolitically, it is…. interesting…
Off-Topic, Trump Approval Rating
Now it suddenly looks a bit brighter for Trump.
If the war in Iran is really over and Americans start noticing lower gas prices again, the positive trend can probably continue.

THE DRONE THREAT
A Russian fiber FPV that was shot down with my ammunition.
I received the drone as a gift.

The drone threat
Since March 2022, I have been helping the Ukrainian military with vehicles, medical equipment, and tactical gear. On each trip, I visit about forty different units on all active front sections. From Sumy in the north to Zaporizhzhia in the south.
In May 2026, I will go down for the sixtieth time.
Text and photo: Jonas v M
During all these trips, I have seen how the war and technology have evolved. The single biggest change and threat is represented by FPV drones. They have forever changed modern combat techniques.
In June 2022, I had the first opportunity to visit a bomb factory in eastern Ukraine where different types of grenades were assembled with 3D-printed wings. In spring 2023, I also accompanied a drone group when they were training to drop hand grenades from drones. They had just started using a new model, a “First Person View” (FPV) drone flown using a kind of VR headset. This drone model was initially used only to drop bombs on enemy fortifications. It was not until winter 2023 that they began to be used as “suicide drones” as they do today.
Various electronic jammers, so-called REB (Radio Electronic Warfare), were early introduced as countermeasures to disrupt the analog video and control frequencies. Some looked like science-fiction weapons and had to be aimed at the drone to be effective.
Creating a protective sphere
The most common variant nowadays creates a protective sphere around the transmitter between fifty and a few hundred meters depending on transmitter power. If a drone comes too close, the control signals are disrupted and it falls to the ground. These jammers are mostly used on vehicles, both because they draw a lot of power and because they give a clear signal to the enemy about your location. That is why they are rarely used at front-line positions.
At important front sections, there are specific military units that monitor the airspace and have access to powerful jammers that can create a protective sphere of a couple of kilometers. They detect which control frequencies the enemy uses and can activate the transmitters needed to jam them. The analog video signal from FPV drones is also picked up to see where it is heading and to warn the unit in the area.
Small handheld receivers
There are now also small handheld receivers with a small TV screen showing the image transmitted by the FPV drone so the units can see where they are going.
Initially, the control frequencies for FPV drones were around 1000 MHz but can now be anywhere from 100 MHz up to 3 GHz. Different front sections may use different frequencies, meaning a REB unit used near Pokrovsk might not work up near Kursk. Building jammers that disrupt all frequencies is becoming practically impossible since each frequency usually requires its own antenna. Fitting more than ten antennas on the roof of a pickup is physically impossible if it is to work effectively. Another problem is that many REB units used have too low power to be effective, meaning the drone still lands close enough that the vehicle and soldiers are damaged by shrapnel from the explosive charge.

and its countermeasures
Fiber optic FPV drones
In 2024, the threat picture changed drastically when fiber optic controlled drones began to be used in larger numbers by Russia. The first arrived already in spring, but it was not until autumn that they became a real problem. These drones carry a spool of fiber thread, 0.25 mm thick and 10–50 km long depending on the model. It cannot be jammed or detected except by radar or IR cameras.
They are slower to navigate due to the extra weight from the spool but can still fly at 120 kilometers per hour, which is a bit slower than regular FPV drones that can reach 140 kilometers per hour for short distances. They are also used for vehicle ambushes as they can land, save battery, and wait for a vehicle to come along the road they are on. Then take off and attack from the front.
According to the Ukrainian units using these, only about 20–25 percent of the fiber optic drones hit their target as there are some technical problems with the system. If the thread bends enough, the glass fiber core can break and the signal is lost. Flying over a road and a vehicle passing damages the thread. Active high-voltage lines, lakes, or rivers can also affect the cable. Therefore, more planning and skill from the pilots are required to handle the drones correctly.
Fiber optic drones are primarily used as a first-line capability against REB units on important targets like tanks. When the jammer is disabled, they can continue attacks with regular FPV drones until the vehicle is disabled, or when they need to enter buildings or terrain where analog signals do not reach.
The number of Russian fiber-controlled FPV drones is constantly increasing and on some front sections they now account for 90 percent of FPV attacks.
Countermeasures
What can be done to protect against fiber optic FPV drones when electronic countermeasures no longer work? Right now, the answer is to cover everything with nets. Roads, important buildings, bunkers, and vehicles have been covered with various net constructions since winter 2023. Both Ukraine and Russia have built long net tunnels along most of the main roads up to 50 km from the fronts.
For close protection, shotguns are most often used, preferably semi-automatic as it is easier to quickly create a wall of projectiles between you and the drone. Several types of shotgun ammunition have been developed to combat drones. The important thing is that the pellets have enough energy to damage the drone on impact, preferably over 4 mm in diameter. One variant of the ammunition contains lead anchors and lines that form a star-shaped net in the air. Unfortunately, the lines tend to tangle when fired and the net becomes unusable or follows an unpredictable trajectory.
Shotguns work well but there is at best one per unit. If you are not right next to that soldier, he cannot protect you.
There are different variants of net guns
There are also different variants of guns that shoot nets. These are only effective up to about 20 meters, which is an unhealthy distance to wait for a drone before starting to shoot at it. These net guns also cannot be used in forests, bushes, or while driving.
In winter 2024, I saw some different Russian variants of ammunition in caliber 7.62 (AK47) for combating drones. They all contained several different effect parts in ►►

THE DRONE THREAT
This picture was taken from a film where Jonas test-fired against FPV at 30 meters distance.

Together towards victory! Razom do peremohi!
…instead of just a normal bullet.
I was skeptical until in April 2025 I had the opportunity to try a variant in 5.56 mm (NATO) produced on a private initiative by a company in Ukraine. Each cartridge contained 4 bullets, one pointed for precision and 3 round for spread.
I tested the ammunition at a shooting range in eastern Ukraine to see its spread and it turned out to work well, even in automatic bursts. A few days later, I also managed to arrange a test with real FPV drones when I met a unit in southern Ukraine.
Standard 7” drones used
In the test, a standard 7” drone (7 inches indicates the size of the propellers) was flown at 30 and 50 meters distance. The weapon was a Colt M4A1 loaded with 5.56 mm anti-drone ammunition.
At 30 meters, only 2 cartridges were needed. At 50 meters, I fired 5 cartridges before the drone crashed burning to the ground. I did not aim very carefully but shot like with a shotgun. I had always thought that it requires greater kinetic force to destroy or damage an FPV drone enough to make it crash. Something I had not previously considered is how sensitive the battery is. It does not take much to penetrate a battery cell which immediately leads to an explosive fire causing the drone to fall to the ground.
Normally, drones do not stay still like in this test, but when a drone initiates an attack and starts flying towards you, it is still like aiming at the same point, similar to the test. The difference is that it keeps getting closer.
After these tests, I contacted the manufacturer and we started a collaboration where I try to spread knowledge about the ammunition and its advantages to as many as possible.
On every trip, I bring about 20,000 cartridges of both 5.56 and 5.45 mm (AK74) which I distribute along the different fronts, a total of more than 160,000 cartridges have now been purchased and distributed.
The units I assist have shot down several hundred drones and many lives have been saved. It usually takes 2–10 cartridges per shootdown and distances are between 20–80 meters. About half explode when they fall to the ground.
Since a cartridge only costs about 14 SEK, one or more soldiers can be saved from injury or death for just 30–150 SEK. This is therefore the single most important equipment I bring on my trips.
One magazine each
The goal is for every soldier at the front-line positions to have one magazine each. All soldiers can then combat drones and the chance of hitting increases significantly compared to if one person has the task with an extra shotgun they are not used to handling.
In 2026, both 5.45 and 5.56 mm ammunition were approved by the Ukrainian defense and units can now purchase it themselves. Unfortunately, this does not mean my job is done as many still do not know it exists or are skeptical that it works.
It is also difficult for the manufacturer to scale production to the levels needed as there is a shortage of gunpowder worldwide and parts of the process must be done by hand.
