Ukraine and the world daily update May 16, 2025

Yesterday our worst fears were unfortunately confirmed.

But let’s first step back to the bigger picture –

-Trump and the trio in Europe (Starmer, Macron, and Merz) have kept Ukraine on a tight leash since the turn of the year in order to achieve peace in our time. Apparently, it’s Ukraine’s fault that there is no peace 😐

-The refinery attacks ceased, Ukraine left Kursk, Ukraine did not bomb the May 9 parade, Trump halted material support to Ukraine for a few weeks, and probably something else I forgot – oh yes, they have also prevented Ukraine from opening new attack vectors across the northern border.

-While no one has done anything against Putin, he is strolling around in his platform shoes feeling fine.

-China showed its loyalty to Russia on May 9, and there were 29 other countries there that wanted to show their loyalty to Russia.

-China, together with Russia, has instigated a war between India and Pakistan (more on that below).

-Russia is threatening the Baltic states and Finland, and has built up a strategic offensive reserve for a limited offensive against the Baltics.

-Russia has built up offensive capabilities in Ukraine and is gearing up to start its summer offensive.

Zelensky and Ukraine are really trying to play along with the West here, Kudos 🙏

But the fact remains – either Russia wins the war or Ukraine wins the war, and the longer it goes on, the greater the likelihood of a global conflict.

-Trump is blowing hot and cold – his latest peace trip in the Middle East probably couldn’t have been done much better even by Gandhi, but at the same time, one constantly gets the feeling that he could declare war before breakfast if the mood strikes, no point in even trying to predict the long-term plan 😀

Now back to the big peace meeting in Turkey that was supposed to bring us peace in our time.

Ukraine and Russia agreed to a ceasefire a month before the May 9 parade, which only Ukraine respected, as Russia violated the agreement countless times. We know that Ukraine followed it because Kriegsforscher said they had their hands tied.

Europe and the USA stopped talking about the ceasefire after a while when Russia didn’t care anyway – no one really took a hard stance against Putin.

And no one thanked Ukraine when, after a month, they confirmed that they had honored the agreement.

Prior to the May 9 parade, Putin begged for a ceasefire between May 8-10, and Xi Jinping asked Zelensky not to ruin the parade with drones – please. Ukraine came out strong beforehand to intimidate but respected the ceasefire. Probably after demands from Trump and Europe, but nothing communicated outwardly.

Since Ukraine, which had been sending five hundred drones per night even up to Moscow in the days before, stayed away, Putin projected his parade strength – a large fleet of vehicles, lots of soldiers marching in unison, and 10-11 countries participating with troops.

Xi Jinping hasn’t been there since 2015, so it was a big deal for the Axis of Evil, and quite a few countries now see China and Russia as a superpower.

After the parade, Starmer, Macron, and Merz came out very strongly and demanded a ceasefire of at least 30 days starting from May 12 – they had met with Zelensky and called Trump on WhatsApp so everyone was clear on what they needed to force Russia into.

“If Putin doesn’t comply, we will get tough” – now damn it ✊

Putin said – screw off, I won’t agree to any ceasefire (after he had received one from Ukraine three days earlier for his parade), but I can agree to negotiate peace in Turkey on May 15, if Zelensky dares to come and talk to me, that coward.

Starmer, Macron, and Merz said something like – “okay, we’ll wait, but you must come, otherwise there will be very big consequences for you – almost German-sized.” And they looked tough and warlike.

Trump flooded Twitter and hinted that he would go there and meet all his buddies for a McDonald’s dinner, almost a bit giddy.

All four leaders put their full prestige into this.

Zelensky and Ukraine saw their chance and Zelensky was quick as a ferret to confirm that he would go to Turkey himself and negotiate with Putin in person.

At this point, Putin got cold feet – he is now at a disadvantage and of course cannot go to Turkey. Moreover, Turkey did not invite him to their fancy parade, so as far as they are concerned, they could choose to arrest and send him to The Hague.

Zelensky did his part – he got off the plane, waved, and said, “I hope Putin comes because peace is the most important thing.”

Ukraine began to hint that Putin didn’t care to come, but the media fell asleep.

Putin now comes out and says “I’m not coming – losers.”

Trump says “I’ll stay in Qatar and eat kebabs.”

Macron, Starmer, and Merz remain silent and have turned off their phones.

And then it’s over, the PR war is lost – the world’s media says “Zelensky is not attending the meeting,” “Zelensky accuses Putin,” “all three skip the meeting” 😭

Voilà – Putin slithered away because no one even made an attempt to challenge him.

On a plain note, this is not good –

-Starmer, Macron, Merz, and Trump ensured that Putin got the respite he needed to prepare for his offensive. They also made sure that Ukraine did not get to do what they could to disrupt this, or alternatively carry out their own offensive – exactly what that would have been, we do not know.

-Putin can do whatever he wants – nothing ever has any consequences for him. That’s the message from the West after three years of aggression against Ukraine and murdered women sent back without brains and eyes.

-Macron, Merz, and Starmer have shown themselves to be weak, and THAT is a language Russia understands, Russia can smell cowards 🧐

-Trump has now taken on a passive role and will naturally not be driving – he also seems to be on some kind of peace trip, and then his trade deals are moving forward, so he will probably be busy with that in the future to try to strengthen the USA.

Trump’s priority is probably not Europe, as we are expected to have put on our big-boy pants now and learned to fight.

We know that Zapad25 is in September, and it’s no big secret that Russia uses exercises as an excuse to mobilize for war when it suits them.

Russia is also very concerned about the Russian minority in the Baltics now, and that they are educating the Russian people that the Baltic states historically belonged to Russia but were stolen by Western Nazis. If one is inclined to conspiracy theories, one might suspect that they are building up to some trouble.

Russia has just declared 22 coordinates/areas in the Gulf of Finland as risk zones for civilian ships until after Zapad25 (link from MXT on johanno1.se)

https://omni.se/ryssland-utfardar-svepande-varning-for-finska-viken/a/pP26O1

Even CNN has now caught on that RU is preparing for further offensives in Ukraine.

https://edition.cnn.com/world/live-news/ukraine-russia-talks-istanbul-turkey-intl#cmap774b300003b6ml0nozdyd

We also know that Putin has been recruiting 50,000 – 60,000 people per month in the past six months – it has been mentioned a few times, and Ukraine has been warning for a long time.

China is advancing its positions in India – the Pakistan conflict.

Apparently, India now has Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Taliban, and China against them in the region, so they are a bit isolated and looking around at the moment.

And the classic move that the Russians are surely behind – India is anti-Muslim, full of Islamophobia, and trying to ethnically cleanse the Muslim minority.

Match lit and bring to the powder keg for a huge explosion 💥

Then we have two more – the internet is full of how much better the Chinese weapons are compared to India’s Rafale and all their other systems. The Axis of Evil is very happy that they have bought made in China.

And then when Estonia was supposed to board a shadow fleet tanker, RU just sent out an SU-34 and then “the Estonians fled” – also making the rounds in the evil team. The fact that the Estonians did not board the ship is clear.

At what point do we feel that the West is setting clear boundaries?

Nowhere, I think – Putin can do whatever he wants and nothing has any consequences. As soon as he makes a violent move in the air, our great leaders run and try to hide behind each other, even though Zelensky is standing a bit away and generously offers to strangle Putin after he headbutted Lavrov.

It is very clear that the Axis of Evil is sensing a new dawn – anything else would almost be a dereliction of duty.

Maybe I missed something, but if I haven’t, Putin has just outplayed Macron-Starmer-Merz, they ran and hid behind each other, and Macron started crying uncontrollably.

Considering that we are dealing with Russia here – do you think such actions seem deterrent to them regarding testing if Europe is ready to defend itself in September?

An offensive in Ukraine with thousands more murdered children will of course happen, but that doesn’t seem to deter the West anymore, so there’s no point in highlighting it.

Putin is probably quite confident that he can manipulate Trump, but the trio above would finally show us worthy of the world’s respect after losing in two world wars and then enduring a whole Cold War with a bent back. That didn’t happen, and even preschoolers are now laughing at Merz and Macron.

We have a lot of criticism for Trump for everything he does, just as we have always shouted ourselves hoarse at the USA. Or Israel – where everyone really dares to unleash their inner ninja because there is zero risk of consequences.

And we write more white papers than there are victims in how we treated the world in the 18th century so that we never forget this original sin.

But as soon as someone in the present could possibly fight back, we remain silent and let the children be tortured and murdered instead.

This doesn’t mean that Ukraine is giving up, just that the trio + Trump has put them in the worst possible position as usual, after three years 😐

But things are starting to look a bit tangled in this area now.

And finally, a very small reminder that India is currently standing alone with more enemies against them than Ukraine, and maybe we should show that we stand united with them too?

I hear absolutely zero support for India actually, and if I were in that government, I would start looking around to see who my friends are.

  1. Good morning!

Russian losses in Ukraine 2025-05 16:

    • 1100 KWIA
    • 13 Tanks
    • 32 APVs
    • 36 Artillery systems
    • 1 MLRS
    • 1 Anti-Aircraft system
    • 123 UAVs
    • 166 Vehicles & Fuel tanks

    SLAVA UKRAINI!

    1. It must have been some armored battle, probably Pokrovsk since either a decreasing or low number of attacks otherwise. Except of course Kursk where there was increased activity. So even Kursk is a candidate.

      1. Yes, it has otherwise been quite few lately. The average per day so far this year is ~9 pieces.

We’ll see if some movies or other info will be released. Maybe those Latvian drones that have been delivered have started to be useful?

    2. I wonder if Vehicles are actually attack-related, and not rear combat? Today’s figures with quite low artillery and at the same time sky-high vehicles can indicate that. Attacks with smaller vehicles have been reported, perhaps a significant part of this figure?

      1. I think you are right there.
Earlier in the war, it was probably mostly a question of logistics, trucks, and tankers, and perhaps unprotected troop transport vehicles.
Later, old buses, motorcycles, cars, etc. started to appear, and they are probably used close to the front line, and that was also when the number started to rise, and today it is probably what accounts for the majority of “Vehicles”.

  2. AFU: “In total, 165 combat clashes took place during the past day.
The enemy caused 60 aviation strikes at the positions of Ukrainian units and settlements, dropping 97 controlled bombs. In addition, he carried out more than 5,400 shells, 106 of them – from jet fire systems, and deployed 2,900 kamikaze drones for impact.”

  4. Thank you for today’s post!
Great summary with well-deserved criticism against pretty much the entire West. Unfortunately, it seems that we don’t have what it takes to help Ukraine stop Russia.

Perhaps this is related to the fact that people in general seem to be starting to forget about Ukraine. Many have probably become accustomed to Russia bombing civilians with several dead and injured almost every day and just shrug it off.
If the people don’t care, then the politicians don’t need to care either and can settle for saying what sounds good but nothing more.

That’s why it’s extra important that those of us who actually care don’t give up but continue to support Ukraine.

    1. It also seems that based on yesterday’s events, Ukraine has nothing to lose by freeing itself from any reins that the West is trying to bind Ukraine with. It is clearly in the West’s interest, and can save face for restrained leaders in the West who in such a situation can choose to hold half and fully continue to support Ukraine.

    2. Of course, this assumes that Ukraine can do it.

Mid-May and they have left the Russians alone since the turn of the year, for the most part, and left Kursk.

A bit like starting over the level in a video game when you die.

  5. The twists and turns surrounding the Thursday meeting in Istanbul show that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not interested in any ceasefire in Ukraine. This is according to former Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt on Aktuellt.

    – Putin is making one diversionary maneuver after another. The Istanbul meeting was Putin’s idea and it was a diversionary maneuver.

Bildt believes that Putin’s goal is to reach an agreement without negotiating with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

    – He thinks he can sort this out with Trump. Whether it will be that easy remains to be seen.

    1. Yes, or does Putin still think he has a tailwind?

He will escalate this summer and China will surely make a move too.

      Bildt is thinking wrong.

  6. The Trump administration wants to blacklist a number of Chinese chip manufacturers, but the proposal is met with resistance from officials concerned that the move could jeopardize a long-term trade agreement between the countries. This is reported by the Financial Times, citing sources.

  7. Russia: “Peace talks? Yes, but then we must bomb a little extra, preferably in the capital.”

“Explosions heard in Kyiv amid Russian drone attack as Ukraine-Russia peace talks loom. Explosions were heard in Kyiv amid a Russian drone attack on the capital in the early hours of May 16, as Ukraine and Russia are set to begin peace talks later in the day.”

    https://kyivindependent.com/russia-targets-kyiv-in-drone-attack-amid-ceasefire-efforts-looming-ukraine-russia-peace-talks/

  8. India-Pakistan and Russia support India? Something that doesn’t align with the Axis of Evil. Is the support perhaps not fully backed? And JD Vance’s visit to India – an attempt to drive a wedge between China and Russia, but which has backfired? Meaning Russia has taken a stand for China? Well, then it’s probably time for the West (Europe/USA) to fully engage and make India an ally, perhaps within the framework of AUKUSIN. There have been attempts at least from the US side.

  9. “Ukraine shot down 73 Shahed drones overnight and neutralized 36 decoy UAVs that failed to reach targets. Russia launched 112 drones from multiple directions. Air defense, EW units, and mobile groups responded.”

  10. Now you have remembered wrong again Johan!

“And then when Estonia was supposed to board a shadow raft-tanker, RU just sent out an SU-34 and then the Estonians “fled” – also make the rounds at the evil team.”

Su-35, a multirole aircraft, nothing else!

  11. Westley Richard

Watched Max Willman as he went through the aerial battle between Pakistan and India. A bit chaotic when he reviews a Pakistani press meeting.

Pakistan apparently has a SAAB Erieye that contributed to their victory in the battle according to them. It is said that Chinese J10s shot down Indian Rafales. The focus on these is because they were the ones firing missiles and glide bombs.

Sweden’s Erieye, Chinese J10s, and Chinese missiles apparently did the job while the French planes took a beating, 5 of them reportedly.

It can’t be fun for Macron now that Europe is arming up and French planes are being shot down.

India should buy some Gripens so that they have a modern air force 😀

  12. India is considering significantly increasing the amount of water it takes from the Chenab River, an important water source for Pakistani farmers. This is part of a retaliatory action for the attacks on tourists in the Kashmir region in April, according to four sources for Reuters.

  13. The drones in Ukraine are really making it difficult for the combatants!

“When you look at what’s happening with Russia and Ukraine the drone is killing tremendous numbers of people,”.
“You hide behind a tree and the drone comes down and it circles you with fire. You don’t have a chance and the tree comes down also by the way.”
“It’s so intense the— I mean you see these trees being knocked down like…”.
“Like they’re being sawed down by a top of the line, uhh, timberman like… Like… You know who? Sean… Duffy.”

“Do you know that Sean Duffy, the head of the Transportation Department, who’s working right now on the airports and getting a system because Biden didn’t do a thing for four years and Pete Buttigieg was the head and he goes bicycling to work,”.
“He takes a bicycle to work, can you believe it? He’s head— He’s running the biggest air system in the world and he takes a bicycle to work. What a— And they say he’s going to run for president, I don’t see it.”
“Who knows right? But I don’t see it.”

“But, uh, when I look at what they’ve done uh, it’s so horrible what they’ve done and the work they did do they wasted billions of dollars,”
“They tried to hook up air systems to… To copper. They tried to hook up copper to glass and the glass doesn’t work with the copper and…”

“Uh they had 30,000 different contractors doing 30,000 jobs and when they put it all together they spent billions of dollars. It didn’t even come close to working and we’re going to be giving out a brand new system,”.
“It’s very important. We’ll have the best system. And we think we know who that system is but we have a lot of bidding,” he went on.

“But we want one check,” “We want a unified system. We don’t have, uh, 5,000 contractors and all different places, some digging ditches and some not doing ditches because they want to go by satellite. Satellite seems to be the way to go. We’re going to be giving that out pretty soon.”

“But what people don’t know about Sean cause I mentioned lumberjacks that Sean — you probably didn’t know this that uh — I’m not talking about this Sean, this Sean no, not, this is not… This is a different Sean,”

“Sean Duffy, the head of Transportation. He’s a great Sean though, I have to tell you but Sean Duffy was the world champion for five years climbing trees and down, up and down, world champion!”.
“So that’s what you call a serious a lumberjack.”

“And he’s doing a fantastic job too, a really respected guy and terrific guy and I mentioned the champion because when somebody’s the champion — he’s the world champion for a long time — he came down, when you come down those trees, coming down at a rapid… He said that started getting your back. You will often break your back! You… You miss… You miss a shot and you’re coming down a lot faster than the human body was meant to come down. But he’s doing a fantastic job at Transportation. But this has been a very, uh, historic trip.”

  14. 🤔

“The UD diplomat suspected of espionage is dead, according to information provided to Expressen and Aftonbladet. The man was arrested and detained by Säpo over the weekend, but was released on Wednesday. However, the suspicions against him remain. The diplomat has consistently denied the allegations.

According to reports, the man is said to have died during the night to Friday. No details about the circumstances of his death have been disclosed.”
    https://omni.se/uppgifter-spionmisstankte-diplomaten-dod/a/yE272a

        1. It absolutely can be.

I think it’s a bit too messy right now –

          -Thyberg-gate

-a diplomat arrested because the name of the email address that sent the pictures was his, I think it seems to be clarified.

-another one at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs arrested.

-one of the diplomats had to go to the hospital for physical and psychological injuries in connection with the arrest (which one I don’t know)

-one of the diplomats is now deceased (which one I don’t know)

-one with connections to the Kurds arrested in Gävle but it now seems to have been in connection with the Medin case in Turkey?

-But other newspapers say that the “Gävle man” is linked to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and absolutely not the Medin case.

-and other newspapers say that it is independent – the “Gävle man” and the other arrest at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs are however linked but have nothing to do with either Thyberg, the first Ministry for Foreign Affairs arrest, or the Medin case.

“Someone” is leaking a lot to the media right now and all sorts of smoke screens are being put out.

That a third country’s security service is involved in any of this, we can probably assume now 😀

The Swedish Security Service (SÄPO) seems to have been completely surprised to begin with.

          1. It was the diplomat who was injured, probably both physically and mentally. His spouse was not at home and could not support him.
I would guess that he took his own life. According to the police, “no suspicion of crime”.
            Apartment in Gamla Stan.

    1. Westley Richard

Sweden’s ambassador to North Korea (2019–2021)
      Sweden’s ambassador to Malaysia (2021–2024)
Thereafter, the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ Middle East and North Africa unit as a special envoy to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and for intercultural and interreligious dialogue.
Living together with a man and thus homosexual just like Thyberg. Some love triangle that has led to sharing pictures with the government, media, and perhaps some foreign power?

He is unlikely to receive a state funeral.

In any case, it’s a treat for the Russians.

        1. According to reports, the police forcibly entered the apartment and beat him up. It seems like his first and last name were in the email address in Protonmail with the pictures. But was it really him who sent the emails? Stupid if he wanted to remain anonymous.

          1. Yes exactly – it is now clear that it was a high diplomat at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs whose name was on the email address sent to the government offices.

SÄPO immediately arrested him and someone leaked to the media that it had to do with Thyberg.

Since it was protonmail, the sender cannot be traced so they could not have found him through IT successes.

How damn stupid is SÄPO really is one of the questions?

If he also took his life after a very harsh arrest, it is a very big scandal that will now be thrown into a top-secret archive to protect the security of the state.

            1. Westley Richard

The rumor says that it was the name of Sweden’s NATO coordinator that appeared as the sender and he is not arrested or officially suspected. What do you mean by harsh arrest? Should the Security Service knock on the doors of spies and ask if they can come in? He is surely not the first one to try to take his own life or escape through a window when caught. An innocent person would have worked frantically to convince the interrogators of their innocence. However, he was released too early; rumors say that he was taken to a psychiatric hospital but they usually do not detain anyone against their will. We must assume that he will be autopsied and that they will look for novichok or some other Russian substance.

              1. Since it was protonmail, SÄPO can’t have hacked it and revealed the sender, right?

Am I correct in assuming that you’re not following “innocent until proven guilty” in your reasoning 😀

The fact that he was released immediately hardly suggests that they caught our contemporary Stig Bergling, does it?

                1. Westley Richard

SÄPO can surely see that he logged into Protonmail at the same time as the email arrived at the government. There should also be a data policy at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs where only approved communications are allowed to be used.

    2. Westley Richard

Expressen claims that he took his own life.

He was also one of the 261 non-political officials in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs who wrote a petition addressed to the head of the Government Offices, expressing concern about whether a conservative government might undermine the “core values” of the Government Offices’ work.

There are many “non-political” individuals at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs who believe that our government is worse than many foreign powers. Kristersson should have appointed a strong Minister for Foreign Affairs who could have reformed the agency. His weakness constantly comes back to haunt him.

  15. “US President Donald Trump wants to meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin as soon as possible, he says on site in Abu Dhabi.

    – As soon as we can arrange it, I would actually leave and go from here, says Trump.

However, he adds that he plans to return to Washington as soon as his Middle East visit is completed.”

    1. I am probably of the opinion that it’s only good if they don’t meet. Putler has a poker face and is a master of manipulation. Trump lacks common sense, is devoid of history, and is weak to white men with power.

  16. Darth Putin:
“My “negotiators” were late as they had to wait for my ballistic missiles to land on civilians before “peace talks” could start. Which proves Ukraine wants to continue the war.”

  17. This thing with the Finnish border is a bit of a Maskirovka?
Building sheet metal structures “supposed to” contain loads of resources?

    Nope man…Maskirovka!

    1. Finland and Belarus become the second choice to lock the units.

Zapd25 with the Baltic Sea fleet unlocks Sweden and Denmark.

And in the Baltics, which is the goal, there is nothing.

  18. Is SÄPO still finding breadcrumbs that third parties have left around Thyberg, or what is going on?

The Kurdish track is indeed a classic, among other things 😀

  19. The opposition should at least keep quiet on this issue for now.

Then the media should reconsider, as DN was doing the bidding of the third power.

    1. The only thing DN managed to do was probably to ask questions? It is still quite reasonable for the media to ask questions, so one can hope that the government is competent enough to provide sensible answers. We don’t even know if DN had intended to make a big deal out of it before Uffe panicked and threw Thurberg under the bus.

  20. Russia has put forward “impossible demands” on Ukraine to deliberately sabotage today’s peace talks in Turkey, according to Ukrainian diplomatic sources cited by several media outlets.

The demands concern control over territories and political concessions they want to see Kyiv make.

In a long thread on X, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticizes Russia for not taking the negotiations seriously, including by sending a delegation consisting of low-ranking officials.
    https://omni.se/ukraina-ryssland-stallde-omojliga-krav-under-motet/a/ny2WbJ

    Zelensky’s post:
“I addressed the European Political Community Summit. This week, we had a real chance to move toward ending the war — if only Putin hadn’t been afraid to come to Türkiye. I was there ready for a direct meeting with him to resolve all key issues. He didn’t agree to anything.”
    https://x.com/ZelenskyyUa/status/1923355468702851109

  21. For the record, Rubio has already said that the Russian bastards’ delegation was of too low a level, so he is leaving so the UA is not lying.

  22. A good thing from the meeting in Istanbul anyway!

“Russia and Ukraine have agreed to exchange 1,000 prisoners of war from each side, Reuters reports. The agreement is confirmed by both countries’ delegations present for the talks in Istanbul.”
    https://omni.se/a/Oodr91

    1. Alive or neutered alternatively dead without eyes and brain – was there anything specified about the condition of the Russians being sent back?

It was 7000 pieces for some year or two ago and UA has processed quite a few – that it’s 1000 even suggests that it’s not all but it’s going in the right direction.

  23. Russia threatened Ukraine with “eternal war” during today’s talks in Istanbul, according to a source in the Ukrainian delegation to Sky News. The source added that the Russian delegation was not ready to discuss technical details about a ceasefire because the delegates lacked authority. Earlier in the day, Ukrainian sources reported that Russia made unreasonable demands to deliberately sabotage the talks.

  24. Welcome to Friday’s intoxication, we have as much fun as at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs but without the risk of being arrested.

Some news – MXT has now spent about a week’s worth of work hours incorporating a translation program (which is far from free) that is supposed to be like black magic.

It will probably take him another week to get it to work, so if you see Cyrillic letters, you’ll know it’s a work in progress and not that we’ve been invaded.

This bridges the whole Swedish-English problem I’ve had, so I’ll continue writing in Swedish. The entire page can be read in both languages, and I get an English copy to post on Substack.

This is after maybe 2-3 months of intensive discussions and various trial runs.

Similar to Twitter or Google with their billions in development budget – delivered by MXT. In terms of IT service, it’s top-notch – so consider yourselves privileged.

As you know, I work with Italians, Sicilians to be precise, but I’m not quite sure what part of Italy that is?

As you know, I rent the boss’s extra apartment for more than double the market price, and work covers it with a monthly allowance. Since my last job, I’ve almost considered it like paying for protection, so I’ve played along until I feel strong enough, which I don’t yet.

Now he’s on vacation and contacted me on payday demanding a bank transfer of the rent. It has to go through an intermediary bank in the USA, which I need to do over the phone with my bank, so I told him he’ll get cash when he comes back, as I receive it in cash in an envelope and can’t be bothered to spend half a day making a damn bank transfer.

In actual money, his half-decent two-bedroom apartment in a small nice town in the Caribbean costs $2500/month when Google says you can get a penthouse for $700/month in a better location than where we live, just so you have the proportions of the scam clear.

Then the salary didn’t come 😶

A few messages back and forth with the CFO – and I REFUSE to pay extortionists, but you have to handle it elegantly 😀

So now the salary is coming, and then I’ll make a direct deposit to the Sicilian either today or Monday to show a little goodwill.

But it doesn’t end there, I need a tax number for home because as far as everyone is concerned, I receive black money from criminals into my account every month. You need to prove that it’s a legitimate company you work for, and I’ve never had trouble getting that information in the last 20 years.

The CFO thought I wanted proof that they pay my taxes in the Caribbean as stated in the contract, 28% by the way, they deduct every month.

We’ve now gone through two weeks of spinning me around in the stands, so it’s pretty obvious that the tax deducted from my salary goes straight into someone’s account and not the Caribbean tax authority’s 😀

I’m also working on a tourist visa, and we’ve been here since January, so we’ll see how easy it is to leave the country when we go on vacation since the maximum visa is 60 days – maybe we’re already prisoners without knowing it?

My prejudices about Italians haven’t been disproven, more thieving than magpies 👍

    Back to fun videos,

    1. The thing with visas can be tricky sometimes. A couple of colleagues were on a commissioning in Iran about 20 years ago. They had visas that they had to renew abroad at certain intervals. For some reason, they had been delayed in renewing, and of course, the inspector showed up on site.

It ended up with a police escort, and they were placed on the defendants’ bench among other criminals awaiting processing. When it was their turn, they had to stand in front of a judge behind a high desk who scolded them in Persian.

The verdict came, they were given 6 hours to leave the country, and never come back. They had to hurry to arrange a flight, but they made it out in time, luckily.

    2. Oops! Good luck with the Italian 💸💸
The football movie is world-class 😂
It’s worse than when you play amateur football yourself 😄

  25. Nice that he is on his way home. Obviously, they had no real evidence other than his articles and photos of him, otherwise he probably would have stayed. It also doesn’t seem like any exchange or similar was required.

“Journalist Joakim Medin is on his way home to Sweden from Turkey after 51 days in prison, writes Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) on X. “Hard work in relative silence has paid off […] He will land in a few hours,” the Prime Minister continues.”
    https://omni.se/a/Jb8Qbb

    1. Very good and I hope he is in good condition 👍

Honorable cheers from the opposition, I assume that this was truly a quick action by the government.

    1. Yes, what’s going on?

Going to post on Bluesky now and Substack so the whole USA will come here.

Sitting here with this weekend’s post myself.

  26. Then the salary came so I have to go and deposit the rent to the Sicilian in a few hours who never stops writing on WhatsApp now –

Writing in Italian that no one understands what he wants…

“My guys from the neighborhood will mark you, you have an hour”

  27. FredagsFylla™….
…what should I come up with… my day maybe?
I’ve been working, realized after work that I might be demented since I saw that I forgot to lock the car during the day….
Returned a pair of shoes I bought at Lidl that were too small. Bought a saw and licorice instead.
Sat at the library and surfed the internet aimlessly and read a book about deranged gender theory… realized that I should probably feel offended, because I didn’t feel represented among the gender variants (I identify as a lilac bush and a truck, and have para-sexual dreams about mailboxes at night).
Watched the local motor-driven youth driving aimlessly around town with loud music blaring (maybe that was the plan…)
Went home and took a walk with the dog.
Brief in-depth study of paid and unpaid bills.

Oh, how nice that it’s FredagsFylla™ and no one can take me seriously!

  28. Now I am number 96 in world politics on Substack.

Accept being addressed as Sir Johan No.1.

But all requests to address me must go through my servant whom I have just hired.

  29. Smart interface design, so-called.
    “Optimize income no matter what!”

“Several drivers testify to Dagens Nyheter about how a button press in the parking app can become an expensive affair. One of them is Tommy Stolt, 80 years old. He writes that he has “banged himself bloody” after accidentally extending his lunch parking to a monthly parking, which became a thousand kronor more expensive.”
    https://omni.se/a/mP2QW1

  30. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) has been in contact with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan regarding Joakim Medin, who has been in a Turkish prison for 51 days. He says this to TT and Aftonbladet. – There have been no negotiations, there are no concessions, nothing like that.”

  31. a little evening adventure…. about a month ago…

We went for an evening walk, the dog and I. I had the excursion backpack with me. We walked a bit, past a wind shelter and then back. On the way back towards the wind shelter, I gathered some firewood – that is, some sticks and twigs that I could find (it was after 9 pm, and it had started to get quite dark outside). Not easy in twilight/darkness… I had a headlamp with me but didn’t use it.
In the wind shelter, I made a fire. Not easy with a dog jumping on me…. Used a fire starter and birch bark, worked well. The sticks in the fire were so-so, some a bit damp. Put a cup of water on the fire to make a “hot cup”, when one of the sticks had burned for a while it “sank” and the cup tipped over….! No soup for me…. Still interesting, because it’s something that can happen in an emergency situation…
Put out the fire a bit with some water and then we started walking back home.
After a while, we met a car turning into the small road to the wind shelter. “A bit late for a jog now” I thought (there’s a lit track there too, but it was turned off because it was so late at night). The car stopped at the wind shelter, the dog and I stood a bit further away watching. Then the lights on the car went out… then on again… and off… I perceived as if someone was walking in front of the headlights.. unsure… then the car just stood there with dim lights – barely the parking lights. We stood and watched because now I thought it was a bit strange…. we stood there for 5-10 minutes. Couldn’t hear if someone closed a car door, because there was a trickling pond near us. Then suddenly we see the reverse lights turn on… then it became urgent, don’t know why, but I didn’t want to be seen… so the dog and I threw ourselves (in the darkness!) into the bushes, I stumbled and fell, the dog jumped on me (I have an 8kg backpack on me..), I crawled up and pulled the dog to me and managed to crawl a bit further into the semi-bushes.. there we lay low while the car drove off and then drove into the residential area….
Someone who “lifted a leg”?? (a Friday night)… Picking up/dropping off something?? a night orienteer who thought about training but changed their mind?? …. so many thoughts….
    around 10:20 pm or 10:30 pm…
the worst part was that the dog got so upset that he started hysterically humping my arm while we were going into the bushes….
a miracle that none of us got hurt when we stumbled around in the bushes… I could hardly see anything in the darkness…! I had to angrily hiss at him and pull him because he didn’t understand where we were going… then I saw he had tangled the leash in a bush too…. total chaos!

    1. 😂 Yeah, you really shouldn’t waste the batteries even when you need them! Headlamp off! Even if it risks both a fire and the supplies brought along.

Didn’t think dogs would get excited by cars with flashing lights. 🤔

  32. Some (bad) jokes about Trump that I came up with:

Why is it difficult to fit Trump into a Volkswagen?
Partly because it would be embarrassing for him to have to sit in a German car, partly because his ego is so big that it requires a trailer, and the Volkswagen doesn’t have a towbar….

    Can lightning strike Trump?
Probably not, he is not a leading conductor….

  33. How can this be the case considering that DOGE has saved “billions and billions”?
Could it perhaps be due to instead buying even more of Starlinks, Cybertrucks, and other things that the campaign donors demand in return?

No, of course it can’t be like that. It must be Biden’s fault!

“Credit rating agency Moody’s lowers the credit rating of the United States from the top rating of Aaa to Aa1, reports TT. The reason is the increase in national debt.”
    https://omni.se/a/63Q9ar

  34. Good. Despite the fears, he does not own the Supreme Court entirely.

“The U.S. Supreme Court rejects an appeal from the Trump administration to resume the deportations of Venezuelans, according to American media. Trump used the wartime law “Alien enemies act” from 1798 to deport Venezuelans who he claimed were gang members.”
    https://omni.se/a/Xj1b1n

  35. Si è dimenticato di disconnettersi Sta pagando per un pagamento in ritardo Mi occuperò io

He forgot to log out He is paying for a late payment I will take care of it
