  1. Lebanon

“Donald Trump says it is a ‘historic day’ for Lebanon, after the ten-day ceasefire with Israel took effect at midnight local time. He writes this on Truth Social.

    ‘Good things are happening!’

But he also writes that it is important that Hezbollah adheres to the ceasefire.

‘It will be a big moment if they do. No more killing. We must finally have peace!’

The statement comes as the Lebanese military reports attacks from Israel just hours after the ceasefire took effect.”

Israel is accused of continuing to attack Lebanon despite the ceasefire that began at midnight local time, writes Sky News. It is the Lebanese military that claims to have recorded several Israeli attacks on areas in southern Lebanon.

People are still urged to be cautious if they return to the villages. According to the Israeli military, forces still remain in the area and residents are advised to avoid the Litani River, writes SVT Nyheter.

Israel has not commented on the reports.

  2. Completely Off-Topic but it is election time soon anyway..

Imagine if one could talk to whales!

“At first glance, humans have little in common with sperm whales. But the communication of these enormous animals is so complex that it is actually very similar to that of humans, new research from the whale project CETI published in Proceedings of the Royal Society B shows.

The researchers have discovered that the whales use a complicated alphabet. The sperm whales’ clicks are not uniform. Like human vowels, the clicks are either long or short, with a pitch that is rising or falling. The pattern is found in Mandarin, Latin, and Slovenian, writes The Guardian.

According to the researchers, the language is more complex than that of parrots and elephants. The founder of the whale project CETI, David Gruber, believes the findings inspire humility:

    – These whales may have passed down information from generation to generation to generation for over 20 million years.”

      1. At a bar in Yokohama: A number of American navy soldiers with unlimited confidence addressed the bar owner’s daughter something like this: What kind of “nese” are you, honey? Chinese or Japanese? The friendly reply came
reptile-fast: What kind of “kee” are you? Yankee or monkey?

  3. A lot of artillery!
Nice that you wrote a bit about whales. May I join in?
Because of my job, I have had the privilege of seeing these animals in their natural element. Amazing creatures! I think of a lifeboat drill in good weather off the west coast of Mexico when we launched both lifeboats with crew. We tested engines and emergency transmitters, etc. Some curious gray whales came and studied us by lying on their side and looking curiously with their large eye. Children in Mexico who have experienced various kinds of trauma often go out with smaller boats and get so close that the children can pet these giants. The contact becomes like balm for the soul for these children and yes – it is exactly as if the whales understand this.🐋

    1. Have seen whales once from a long distance when I was on vacation in the Azores and we took a boat trip.
It would be amazing to get close, so I am a bit jealous of you!

      Nice with the children!
It has been shown that elderly and dementia patients who get to interact with, among others, cats also react positively.

Even though the whales kept their distance, the dolphins in the Azores were more curious and close. But it was difficult to get good pictures of them. When they jumped and you tried to take a picture, you were usually too late and they were already on their way down under the surface, or you guessed and were too quick so you only saw them halfway up!
A better camera would of course have solved that by taking fast burst shots (or today a high-resolution video camera)-

Both whales and dolphins feel like sympathetic creatures in some way.

Unfortunately no access to any high-resolution images but here are some dolphins from the Azores.

Can warmly recommend the Azores for a somewhat different travel destination with beautiful nature.

Sorry, got even more off-topic, from whales to the Azores! 😄

  5. Maybe wishful thinking now, but can such large artillery losses originate from captured areas?

Alternatively, newly captured areas that allow them to reach further with drones.

In any case, quite a bit of information, which can admittedly be difficult to assess, in recent days points to Ukraine having something in the works.

  6. Now you dismissed the film yesterday MXT so you killed my point.

Which was that RU is working against it and that the fuel crisis was an important ingredient.

And raff is burning in third countries all over the world now, not just MENA and RU. “technical errors” will be everyone’s excuse but there is a bit too much oil infrastructure that now has technical errors.

If you have the energy to watch the whole thing, the RESEARCHER FROM KINGS COLLEGE in London and his RESEARCH GROUP have some important points but the first five minutes were a bit flattering for the audience, as if civil war is inevitable – a bit of an exaggeration.

But the broader point is important and what is happening now in Ireland is exciting – they put in the arm, or at least tried.

So please watch the film yesterday, I don’t dare repost it because then I’ll get MXT after me and it’s Friday – God’s peace applies and Mariestad is purchased.

I am therefore after the broader picture.

    1. I am not saying that we will have a civil war in Sweden.

But we could be heading towards unrest in several countries in Europe with general strikes, sabotage, and deadlocked politics, government crises, and all that.

a fuel crisis is needed for that

  7. What you see is that the UA drone coverage is over the artillery range.

I will get back with posts I know, but UA has the advantage.

It’s going to be a bloodbath now that the ground is firm and moving forward – Russian black blood.

The boat we were going to take on Victory Day has sunk, and the only clue is small wheel tracks, very small, and some empty beer cans by the boat – who do you think sank the boat 🧐

  8. Today it was to be decided how the Strait of Hormuz would be cleared of mines. Without the USA, Israel, and Iran. Was it Macron who was convening, I wonder? We will see what they come up with. Otherwise, they can call Zelenskyy and let Ukraine solve it too.

    1. Thank you 🙏 and the same to you.

Now it’s Friday drinking in progress here and I really need to finish off The Old Man’s weak beer, the way he downs a barrel every evening is impressive to say the least, I have needed a month. 🤪

  9. Regarding the USA and Iran, there is an insane amount of equipment and resources on their way to the area from the USA; they have sent additional aircraft carriers, three in total now, tens of thousands of soldiers, and those who follow US military cargo flights can see how much material is heading to the region. It must be incredibly expensive to send so many resources here.

It really doesn’t feel like the USA is done here in the Middle East, although I can definitely get a knot in my stomach about where this is actually going to lead. Iran has threatened to shut down freshwater production along with energy supply; they usually back up their threats. So scary if the USA/Israel actually starts up again, and the question is whether they are waiting until the ceasefire is over before they strike.

I probably shouldn’t think about it too much; it’s Friday, so maybe I should just enjoy that instead. 😁

All the best from my plastic bathtub in Abu Dhabi as usual.

    1. I think it’s to trick Castro in Cuba. Every now and then the armada sets course for the Caribbean. I believe Johan has already booked a spot on a minesweeper.

      Seriously, I don’t think so.

As you wrote yesterday, uranium cannot be bombed away and Iran is unlikely to hand it over voluntarily. One might ask why: is a ground operation the goal for Iran?

If that is the goal, what says that Iran would be so much more successful on the ground than they have been in the air and at sea, where they relied on Russian and Chinese equipment, which proved not to meet the standards.

      1. There is a consensus that Iran is probably not stronger on land than in the air or at sea.

My concern is more about how many missiles and drones they manage to send to the GCC countries around, as it seems to be Iran’s modus operandi to handle attacks. Shoot at those who do not shoot back 🤷‍♂️

  10. Dn:

[Apelsinführern] has decided to extend [Sleepy Joes]’s ban as of April 21, 2022, on Russia-linked ships entering American ports or waters for another year.

“The policy and actions of the Russian Federation still constitute a national emergency due to a disruption or threat of disruption of the United States’ international relations,” reads the justification.

  11. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are set to launch a new way of fighting with drones, a kind of combined units of infantry and unmanned units both in the air and on the ground. On Telegram, it is written that the model has been successfully tested on the southern front.

  12. Okay, maybe the US strategy against Iran to block the Strait of Hormuz worked:

“Strait of Hormuz ‘completely open’ for rest of ceasefire: Iran FM

Iran announced that the Strait of Hormuz is now “completely open” for the remainder of the ceasefire to commercial traffic, a major step towards ending a war with the US and Israel that has sent energy prices surging.” https://gulfnews.com/world/mena/lebanon-israel-10-day-ceasefire-begins-as-trump-says-iran-nuclear-deal-close-1.500509689

And Trump thanks for that on Truthsocial, things might be moving fast now…

Someone really needs to explain to him how CAPS LOCK works.

      1. Exactly, it’s weird, one day Iran has no control over the mines at all and now suddenly it’s just a matter of driving through… Are there even any mines laid out?

        1. Rumors say that the mines were laid outside Oman’s coast but that Iran preferred to say they did not know where the mines were rather than admit that they were laid there. The reason is that Oman usually stays friendly with most, which becomes embarrassing for Iran…

  13. The oil price is at 87.05 USD/barrel for Brent Crude OTC-Spot and is falling as I write.

The reason is that Iran says the Strait of Hormuz is open during the ceasefire in Lebanon.

    1. Hm, so now Iran has made it about Israel whether the strait is open or not…

And Trump can also take credit for the US having negotiated the ceasefire and subsequently the opening of the strait.

What will be the next move, and by whom?

Israel wants to smash Hezbollah, and continue with Iran until the regime is replaced.

The Iranian people want help to smash the mullahs.

Europe and China want peace and quiet and oil and gas.

Trump wants to declare it over, wants uranium, and oil, and money, and power over the oil flow in the Middle East, and at the same time move the American armada to Cuba, and gain honor and fame.

Iran’s mullah regime wants to control the strait, sell its oil, throw Israel into the Mediterranean, lock up the women, turn back time 2000 years, kill all infidels and get fifty-something virgins in paradise.

      1. Goal conflicts that on paper are easiest resolved by removing the regime in Iran.

There are probably two options here, either the USA and Israel back out of the conflict and let the mess build up again until a new outbreak occurs, or this is to be able to bring in more resources and lower energy prices ahead of the next wave that is hoped to solve the problem more permanently.

        1. Israel finds it difficult to back down, as they have been in Iran’s crosshairs since ’79, and now Iran is weaker than it has ever been.

Israel has a strong defense but is still dependent on the USA for the larger offensive operations and material deliveries. However, it looks a bit like Trump is starting to get tired of Israel and Netanyahu, which would then be another in the line of old allies that Trump distances himself from.

It will not be easy for Trump to withdraw from this with honor intact. If he abandons Israel with the mullah regime intact, sooner or later it will be very bloody in the Middle East. As is well known, Israel has nuclear weapons and will likely use them if they feel their existence is threatened.

Now Trump has also started ranting that NATO must not go to the Strait of Hormuz; does he perhaps intend to handle that himself?

  14. USA has more disinformation than RU 🤣🤣🤣

    Trump gives new bids daily.

sells 30% more oil and ong I saw at double the price – not everything is doom

  15. NATO / USA

    Stoltenberg 🇳🇴:

“My country, Norway, borders Russia. Just on other side of our land border, we see highest concentration of nuclear weapons in the world: missiles, submarines, bombers. These weapons are not directed at Norway — they’re directed at United States.

Yet Norway helps United States monitor and track those submarines, share intelligence, provide early warning, and report precisely what Russians are doing.

This is part of America’s homeland defense, delivered by a NATO ally. And there are many other similar examples.

So United States is safer with a strong NATO. That is why I expect and believe the United States will remain committed to the Alliance.”

  16. Off-Topic, continuing on the theme of whales.

“A large humpback whale has been stranded off Germany’s northern coast since March. And now time is running out to save the twelve-ton whale, writes The Guardian. One of those contributing to a last-minute effort is multimillionaire Walter Gunz. He tells the German news agency DPA that the whale will die if a final attempt is not made. – If you try, you at least have a chance to save it. The whale is severely weakened after being stuck for several weeks but has in recent days been more active than before, which has raised hopes that it might survive. The plan is to try to place inflatable cushions under the whale to then lift it onto a tarpaulin and later out into the North Sea.”

    https://omni.se/a/xrlke8

    1. “The party leadership has also asked to be forced – the purpose is to convince the Social Democrats that Nooshi Dadgostar cannot back down in a negotiation. The threat of an early election is meant to stare the Social Democrats in the face. If we do not get ministerial positions, we will topple the whole game, is the message.” dn

  17. Washington Post:

The Russian army has reached a dead end in Ukraine, the Russian economy is weakened, and the chances of victory are almost zero.

That is why the Kremlin may resort to a new escalation.

It is about attacking one of the Baltic states in order to test whether NATO is really ready to defend its allies.

If Europe fails to arm itself in time and the West shows weakness, Putin may decide that there will be no better moment.

  18. Checked through Omni, can’t be bothered to post because it’s too messy. Is the strait open, has peace been achieved in Lebanon, does Iran intend to give away its nuclear weapons without compensation, even though the US plans to pay 20 billion USD, and has Israel broken the ceasefire, while Trump forbids Europe from helping to open the strait which is already open, while Iran threatens the US that if they don’t open the strait, Iran intends to close the strait which apparently is still closed, even though it is still open, and Israel announces that they are not done with Hezbollah so any ceasefire in Lebanon is not current, although others report that the ceasefire is fragile.

    1. Yes, quite a bit of turmoil. Now [the Kremlin] is also stepping in and promising to support free passage in the Strait. Does this also apply to its ally Iran?

“Important discussions today about the serious situation at the Strait of Hormuz at the invitation of @EmmanuelMacron and @Keir_Starmer. Free navigation is a global concern that affects us all. Sweden stands ready to contribute, after a permanent ceasefire, to secure free passage through the strait.”

    2. “Trump forbids Europe from helping to open the strait that is already open”

So are we seeing a burgeoning conflict between Europe and the USA over military control of Hormuz? I suppose China is rubbing its hands at the prospect of a battle in Hormuz between Europe and the USA. This reversal, I would argue, Johan has actually missed. But I suppose I will be scolded.

      1. I think Trump wants control over Hormuz, so he can take tolls from the European ships, as payment for us not coming when he called. He is so upset that the Europeans are only now on their way there after he arranged peace and opened the strait.

The fact that it was Trump together with Netanyahu who started the war that closed the strait is something he does not reflect on. Iran’s mullah regime probably deserved a blow, but Trump should have realized the consequences and planned for it.

Or maybe this is the plan… to create chaos.

    3. Oh my goodness, the confusion is reaching new heights 😀

Soon the USA, Europe, Russia, and China will have warships in place to keep the strait open for their ships and closed to others, Iran and the USA collect tolls, and China is building pipelines crisscrossing to avoid Hormuz

  19. WarTranslated on X:

“Zelensky says Russia is trying to pull Belarus into the war as occupiers regroup to cover manpower gaps. Ukrainian intel reports road building and artillery positions near the border, and Kyiv has warned Belarus’ leadership that Ukraine will defend its land.”

Much talk about what Russia might do can indicate (at least) two things

    1. Russia feels pressured and wants Ukraine and Russia’s neighboring countries to spread their resources over as large an area as possible; everything at the front would push Russia out.
    2. There is a real risk that Russia will try to “upend the chessboard” to see if they can come out with a better hand.
    3. Make Europe nervous and thereby get them to agree to a better deal in a negotiated solution.

I believe more in 1 than 2, but if they are planning 2, it means that 1 is fulfilled as a side effect.

Regarding 3, I am doubtful as I do not think Russia wants a negotiated solution. My feeling is that they can still only be stopped if the regime falls.

    1. As soon as they go against them, they have come with threats, like an old LP record that has gotten stuck, but they never do anything.

Russia is more TACO than TACO.

      1. Well, actually, you know things are going badly for the Russians when they start threatening.

It’s been a long time since they played the nuclear card btw.

    2. They would surely like to open a second front via Belarus, but Luka still seems to be good at holding back.

However, Luka has now started making statements suggesting that unrest is on the way, so we shall see.

  20. Not even those most closely involved know what applies.

“The first ships that were on their way out of the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz have suddenly turned around and started returning, reports Danish TV2. – The question is whether they were just testing the waters, because no ships have yet passed through the strait, says the channel’s foreign editor Mads Buur Bach. According to Reuters, about 20 ships began moving toward the strait on Friday evening, hours after Iran stated that it had been opened. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) and several shipping companies have said they are waiting and investigating the situation more closely. Regarding possible mines in the strait, the situation is unclear. The US Navy states that it does not have an overview and urges seafarers to consider avoiding the area. Donald Trump has in a short time given completely opposite messages. First, he stated that all mines have already been cleared, and then that the US and Iran are still working to clear them.”
