At least nine people have been killed and 28 injured following a massive Russian attack involving, among other weapons, ballistic missiles. Several explosions occurred in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, as a result of the attack, and smoke filled the sky.

Emergency services worked tirelessly throughout the night, and it is estimated that 105 people were rescued. Fires broke out in both residential buildings and industrial facilities.

A comment on domestic politics

As long as you reject Russia and do what you can to support Ukraine in this war, I honestly do not care which party you vote for. If we were to end up at war with Russia, I would much rather stand with a Left Party supporter on my right and a Sweden Democrat on my left than stand alone.

If I had to defend Sweden and our freedom by myself, there would not actually be very much left to defend.

I believe and hope that this is where we would end up in the event of a conflict: making a joint effort regardless of party affiliation, because we would realise that domestic political squabbling is secondary and ultimately of no real importance.

That is, in fact, where we have ended up when it comes to our support for Ukraine. All parties are on the right side, and I think that is something that genuinely makes you feel proud to be Swedish: an unwavering unity about what is right.

We also have many other things in common, regardless of how we vote. I believe it would be better if we spent more time thinking about what unites us and developing those ideas, rather than concentrating on what divides us. Scratch beneath the surface and most of us are fundamentally very similar, with the same basic sense of right and wrong.

If Johan disagrees with me, he can always dig around in the administrative system—which he pretends he does not have access to, even though it is his website—and ban me. 😄

    We end up in politics here as well from time to time, and spontaneously it’s hard to resist. Everyone has their opinion, and when it comes to politics, it is often something that deeply engages us (at least when it comes to those who care regardless of where they stand).

    At the same time, it is completely irrelevant when it comes to what we have in common, a desire for Ukraine to expel Russia and preferably so brutally that it takes a very long time before they even consider trying again. 

    When everyone fights for the same goal, the chances of success are much greater.

    If we want to have a blog that supports Ukraine, we have to stop talking about domestic politics, it only divides us.
    Look at the other blog, it’s increasingly starting to resemble Flashback because of LW’s hatred towards SD.

    Good comment MXT. I assume you are mostly referring a bit to the other blog that most people here glance at sometimes. The other blog, which I glance at sometimes, makes you feel uncertain about what to vote for in domestic politics. Everything seems to be wrong and that you are a Putinist no matter what you do. The opposition to Russia and the help and support to Ukraine is the primary thing. With some thought about what you vote for, of course, but the other blog exaggerates a bit. Good MXT and Jnr1 and all of you.

      It is difficult to choose what to vote for if you have Ukraine as your highest priority and also think about the security of Europe and the Nordics. 

      I understand LW in a way when he chooses not to point out any favorites. 

      He is happy to talk about which parties he does not like (basically none) and often he is against SD. That means he still gets involved in politics. It becomes a bit of a mixed message when he does not provide any form of guidance despite strong opinions.

      It is actually a bit frustrating. When it comes to Ukraine, he is probably one of those who have greater insight than most and should be able to point out a direction.

      At the same time, I appreciate exactly that. Most others otherwise have a political agenda and exploit every context and event, whether it concerns war or something else, to try to get you to vote “correctly”. LW could influence many if he wanted to. 

      On the other hand, if you do not want to point out a direction, maybe it would be best to completely ignore politics. Now he risks making enemies of everyone (even though he hits hardest against SD) and there you can wonder if that really is what benefits Ukraine.

    As for the other blog, it ultimately comes down to one person’s increasingly distorted self-perception and growing hubris. It seems, after all, that he is not really doing well.

      It was exactly my thought, LW doesn’t seem to be doing well. I believe that something quite recent has happened, such as finances, professional life, or private life, which has caused his aggressive behavior to increase.

        I don’t think I’ve seen any consistent trend. Sure, he has gone very hard against SD recently, but at the same time he has other very sensible posts.

        But if your suspicion has any basis, could it be that he has separation anxiety when it comes to the rural, nature-close living that they will soon be moving away from?

      If there is one thing American politics has taught us, it should be that hate rhetoric between the blocs leads to nothing good. The great polarization we see between the Democrats and Republicans has not helped that country.
      Why should we do the same here in Sweden? It is better to let people have their opinions even if you do not agree with them. They might change their minds soon anyway. In Sweden, we have had shifting bloc majorities for a long time.

      I just went in and skimmed through the highly enlightened and extremely humble universal genius’s blog, and as some have already pointed out, a few accounts have been terminated now since 17:42.
      It’s probably starting to be felt now… as the blogger has tried to downplay it but is now playing the favorite victim card again… “domination technique.”
      According to LW, it is an example of domination technique to have a different opinion than him and to stand up for that opinion, as well as to choose to leave the forum, where everyone is equal except Lars “Napoleon” Wilderäng who is the most equal of them all and as sensitive as a 4-year-old. He has dictated that topics such as domestic politics should be avoided in the Ukraine forum so that it doesn’t distract from its purpose, but of course this does not apply to him.

      North Korea has over the past year delivered large quantities of artillery shells and rockets to Russia and sent thousands of soldiers to fight on the Russian side in Ukraine, something that has contributed to modernizing North Korea’s weapons industry and strengthening the country’s combat capability.

      Pyongyang’s closer relations with Beijing and Moscow, as well as the upgrading of military capacity, are viewed with increasing concern in Seoul – both as a security threat to South Korea and the broader international system, as DI has reported.

      At the same time, Japan’s relationship with China has deteriorated significantly, especially after Japan’s current Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi showed support for the democratic island nation of Taiwan.

      Steps have already been taken. The US, Japan, and South Korea have moved from cautious consultations to concrete agreements on submarines, uranium enrichment, and energy cooperation with a clear security policy undertone.

      In July, the foreign ministers of the three countries signed a cooperation agreement on the expansion of small modular reactors, SMRs, with an initial focus on the Indo-Pacific region. This is in clear competition with China and Russia.
      South Korea has not only intensified defense work with the US, EU, and Japan – but also with Ukraine.

      The idea of increased military cooperation in Asia is not new. Japan’s former Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has long advocated for a NATO-like alliance in Asia with the US at the forefront.

      At the same time, the security policy development is a reminder that the line between civilian nuclear power export and military strategic considerations is becoming increasingly blurred.

        LW undeniably seems somewhat puzzled and humble, and as he is, he mockingly urges those who dare to have the audacity to hold a different opinion and not wallow in the dust at his feet to stick to Flashback and then the thread that is dedicated to him……. he does not mention with a single syllable anything that could hint at this blog. This is understandable in a way, but it signals even more clearly than all the subtle so-called “humblebrag” or in his case poorly concealed bragging, that his poor self-esteem and fragile ego are genuinely afraid that more people will find their way here.
        This is, in itself, a mark of quality if anything, so STAND TALL JOHAN AND MXT.

    ** After a report that the US and Israel may bomb Iranian energy infrastructure this weekend, and a warning from the US embassy in Jerusalem urging Americans to “seriously reconsider travel to and through” the Middle East, US officials told The Washington Post that CENTCOM’s top general in Europe has warned the Pentagon that they lack the marine forces needed to protect Israel from Iranian ballistic missile attacks.

    While Israel, the Pentagon, and US European Command did not comment on The Post’s report, a senior Iranian security official told the country’s news agency Tasnim that Iran would attack critical infrastructure in Israel and US energy targets in the region in response to any attacks on its energy facilities.

    At their meeting on Tuesday in Washington, Prime Minister Netanyahu reportedly informed Trump of three offensive options against Iran, including attacks on land-based military supply lines and tightening the naval blockade. On Thursday, Israel’s Defense Minister Katz said the White House had not approved Israeli plans to attack Iranian energy facilities due to “concerns that Iran would retaliate against neighboring countries and trigger a global oil crisis.”

    Last month, General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, reportedly warned the Trump administration that an expansion of the campaign against Iran could dangerously deplete CENTCOM’s missile-hunting aircraft assets.

    Meanwhile, as Israel and Lebanon prepare for upcoming talks in Rome to implement their US-mediated agreement, the IDF said they had destroyed a Hezbollah tunnel network built in southern Lebanon near Beaufort Castle.

    President Joseph Aoun condemned the explosions as a “very dangerous escalation” and a violation of existing commitments.     Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected a request from the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham to transfer an Iron Dome air defense system from the US to Ukraine in 2023, The Washington Post reported on Saturday.
    According to the report, Netanyahu vetoed the transfer by referring to the terms of a joint production agreement that gives Israel the final say regarding the system’s deployment, despite the battery in question being paid for by the US government.
    In response to the report, Israel’s embassy in Washington confirmed the report and said the decision was made out of concern that “the technology would find its way to the Iranians.”

    The embassy also said that Israel returned Patriot missile batteries to the US so they could be sent to Ukraine instead.
    Secretary of State Marco Rubio told The Washington Post that Israel’s ability to veto the export of American weapons to other countries was a necessary restriction introduced through coproduction. “Every time you enter coproduction, we have these restrictions,” he said.
    The report comes after the US House of Representatives passed its version of the annual defense appropriations bill, which contains a provision that critics accuse would actually increase military and technical cooperation between the US and Israel rather than wean Israel off American aid.

    The section goes beyond traditional foreign military sales and existing cooperation programs. In a letter supporting the plan, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the concept as “my plan to change the framework for defense cooperation between the US and Israel.”

    On Tuesday, Netanyahu and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky attended Graham’s funeral after the senator died earlier this month at age 71. The two leaders met separately with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday and later attended Senator Lindsey Graham’s funeral, where they were seen standing close to each other and apparently conversing.

    This week, two sources told Haaretz that Netanyahu’s office declined a proposal for him to meet Zelensky in Washington. According to a Ukrainian source, Netanyahu’s office initially proposed the meeting, but after Zelensky’s office accepted, they received no further response until Tuesday, when Israeli officials said the prime minister would not be able to meet due to lack of time.
    The two leaders have not met in person since the UN General Assembly in September 2023. Immediately after the October 7 attack, Zelensky tried to visit Israel as a sign of solidarity, but the request was denied. Netanyahu and Zelensky last spoke on the phone in early 2025.

    It was not really my intention that what I wrote in the post would lead to everyone completely trashing the other blog and its author, but at the same time it is clear that many felt a need to express their opinions.

    Personally, I think it is better if we can make this blog as good as possible instead of putting all our energy into criticizing others. I therefore hope that we will not spend all our days on that criticism going forward. Otherwise, we risk becoming a bit like what Cornu is criticized for, but instead of hating on SD, we would hate on Cornu, instead of focusing on Ukraine.

    NOTE! So this is not misunderstood. This is just how I feel, of course you are free to write whatever you want.
