Overnight Ukrainian Attacks
Ukrainian forces attacked the military airfield Millerovo in Russia’s Rostov region overnight. There are said to be videos showing the attack itself and at least one explosion at the site. The governor claims that all attacks were repelled and all drones destroyed, and that no one was injured during the attacks. This is not the first time Ukraine has attacked the same airfield; the last time was at the end of August when several radar systems and infrastructure were destroyed.
There are also reports that Ukrainian drones attacked the oil refinery in the industrial area of Yaroslavl. Pictures have been published showing explosions and a fire at the facility.
The information has not yet been verified according to Kyiv Independent, so we will see what emerges during the day.
Russia has once again attacked Kyiv
Russia launched another massive attack on Kyiv overnight, injuring at least 16 people, including one child. Several explosions have been reported, and the attacks were carried out using both drones and ballistic missiles. A fire broke out in a four-story building belonging to an educational institution, and residential and commercial properties were also damaged. Fires also broke out in a workshop building, and agricultural equipment and vehicles were damaged.
The US House of Representatives approves Graham’s proposal for sanctions against Russia
Lindsey Graham’s sanctions proposal includes legislation to impose tariffs of up to 100% on countries that buy Russian oil and gas, and the House of Representatives voted yesterday to finally pass the proposal. The Senate approved the bill on August 7, so now only Trump’s signature remains.
The bill gives US President Donald Trump the authority to impose tariffs of up to 100% on the five largest buyers of Russian oil and natural gas, as well as five countries that help Moscow avoid energy sanctions. The bill was passed with 262 votes in favor and 159 against. 203 Republicans, 56 Democrats, and one independent representative voted for the bill. Somewhat surprisingly, support for the proposal was highest among Republicans, but Graham is a Republican, and Democrats see a risk that it gives Trump too much power.
The bill targets countries that buy Russian energy products. China, India, and Turkey are among the largest buyers of Russian oil, while the European Union, China, and Turkey are major importers of Russian natural gas. It sounds good if we can put pressure on all of them, right? One wonders why so many Democrats oppose the proposal?
You may remember that the Supreme Court forced Trump to roll back several of his tariffs and also pay back a couple of hundred billion dollars to the affected companies?
This was because he did not have the authority to impose the tariffs without Congress’s approval.
This law means that he now gets exactly the powers he did not have then.
It is quite common in American politics to bundle several parts into one package when voting. Kind of like, if you want this, then you also have to agree to this.
I don’t have very high hopes for Trump; it could very well end with him choosing to go after Europe with tariffs and ignoring putting pressure on China and India. He doesn’t really seem to want to harm Russia, mostly to enrich himself. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he will surprise me positively.
Regardless, the intentions of the law are good for Ukraine, so it is positive that it has finally passed Congress!

The 1667th day of the Russian Federation’s full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine has begun.
In the past 24 hours, a total of 278 combat engagements were recorded.
Yesterday, the enemy conducted 106 airstrikes and dropped 356 guided aerial bombs. Additionally, the attackers used 7,106 kamikaze drones and carried out 2,366 shellings against communities and our troops’ positions, including 33 with rocket artillery.
In the Sumy region, the communities of Sadky, Tovstodubove, Korenok, Kucherivka, Bezsalivka, Neskuchne, Pavlivka, Ivolzhanske, Sadky, Rozhkovychi, Potapivka, Bachivsk, Mala Slobidka, Hirky, Ryzhivka, Pysarivka, Marine, and Mykhalchyna Sloboda were subjected to hostile artillery shelling. Lohy in the Chernihiv region was also shelled. Furthermore, the areas around Chuikivka, Sumy, Pustohorod, Kucherivka, and Khotin in the Sumy region were targeted by airstrikes.
In the past 24 hours, the defense forces’ air, missile units, and artillery struck six areas with concentrations of enemy personnel, seven command posts and launch sites for unmanned aerial vehicles, as well as three artillery systems and artillery positions belonging to the occupiers.
On the northern Slobozhansky and Kursk sectors, three enemy assault attempts have been recorded since the beginning of the day.
On the southern Slobozhansky sector, Ukrainian units repelled 17 attacks. The attackers tried to advance towards the communities of Kozacha Lopan, Ternova, Rubizhne, Mala Vovcha, and Radkivka, as well as near Lyman, Vilcha, and Starytsia.
On the Kupyansk sector, the enemy attacked once in the area around Kivsharivka.
Attempts to break through our defense were repelled on the Lyman sector, where the occupiers conducted six attacks towards Shyikivka and Lyman, as well as in the areas around Novoiehorivka and Novoselivka.
On the Slovyansk sector, the enemy carried out three assault attempts near Kryva Luka.
On the Kramatorsk sector, the occupiers attacked twice in the areas around Yurkivka and Fedorivka.
On the Kostyantynivka sector, 29 attacks were recorded. The attackers conducted assault operations in the areas around Kostyantynivka, Illinivka, Dovha Balka, Rozkishne, and Toretske, as well as towards Mykolaipillia, Pavlivka, Novohryhorivka, Kucheriv Yar, and Vilne.
The largest number of assault attempts was recorded on the Pokrovsk sector, where our defenders stopped 31 attacks. The enemy was active in the areas around Kucheriv Yar, Vilne, Nove Shakhove, Toretske, Hannivka, Novyi Donbas, Dorozhnie, Dobropillia, Pokrovsk, Serhiivka, Udachne, and Molodetske.
On the Oleksandrivka sector, the attackers carried out three attacks towards Berezove and in the area around Rybne.
On the Huljajpole sector, the enemy made three attempts to advance towards Vozdvyzhivka and Novoselivka, as well as in the area around Dobropillia.
On the Orikhiv sector, our defenders stopped a hostile attempt to advance towards Prymorske.
On the Prydniprovsk sector, the enemy conducted no assault operations in the past 24 hours.
On the Volyn and Polissya sectors, no signs have been detected that the enemy is forming offensive force groupings.
Total Russian attacker losses in the past 24 hours amounted to 1,960 personnel. Additionally, one tank, six armored fighting vehicles, 43 artillery systems, seven rocket artillery systems, three air defense systems, 14 ground-based missile systems, 1,439 unmanned aerial vehicles, 461 vehicles, and five units of special equipment were neutralized.

Hmm, if he signs, he is not doing it to punish Russia, but to legally be able to impose tariffs on the countries he cannot control through threats.
Unfortunately, Europe is an importer of Russian gas, and also against Trump’s policy, so we can expect a large part of the tariffs to fall there.
I believe China will manage better, since the US is more dependent on them.
After the New Year, our gas imports should presumably end unless some countries manage to negotiate some form of exemption, but in that case, they can certainly be subject to tariffs (if it is even possible to do so with countries within the EU).
