Russia once again attacked Kyiv with ballistic missile strikes. Several explosions were heard during the night, and a residential building was hit, causing a major fire. Read more at Kyiv Independent.
Ukraine has attacked an Iranian ship transporting military equipment between Iran and Russia in the Caspian Sea. Zelenskyy wrote on social media that they “achieved very good results with long-range strikes in the waters of the Caspian Sea” and apparently carried out attacks on several ships, not just the Iranian one. The Trump administration has apparently warned Ukraine against attacking non-Russian ships. Read more at Kyiv Post.

** 💥 As the US fights a war with Iran, behaving like a true ally yet again, Ukraine destroyed two Russian cargo ships transporting Russian weapons to Iran in the Caspian Sea. Yet, no one is willing to do this for Ukraine. Iran has now threatened Ukraine with ballistic missile strikes. **

I think Iran should have enough with the USA? How can they have the capacity to send missiles to Ukraine? Empty threats? Maybe.
In practice, they have probably already been at war with Ukraine since they started sending Shaheds and operators for these to RyZ already 4 years ago.
The same should apply to RyZ, how can they have the capacity to send weapons to Iran? Either they are needed to reinforce against Ukraine or to build up against the Baltic in the autumn. Here too, they should not have overcapacity to sell/give away.
Also find it hard to believe that it could be a question of any large quantities. Both sides should need everything they can produce. Perhaps there is an exchange of things that the other has in surplus.

AI summary of the article below.
Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during a meeting in Russian Omsk, urged Russia’s President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine and “freeze” the conflict. This is a rare public appeal from an ally of Putin.
Political tensions and talks.
Rare criticism: Tokayev emphasized that young people are dying and that the roots of the war are “incomprehensible.”
Proposal for a ceasefire: He suggested freezing the conflict and returning to previous peace talks in Istanbul.
Putin’s response: Putin replied that he will inform Tokayev of the details but maintains that Russia plans to take the rest of eastern Ukraine by force.
Intensified Ukrainian drone attacks.
Targets in Siberia: While the meeting was ongoing, Ukraine carried out extensive retaliatory attacks, including against an oil refinery in Tyumen in Siberia.
Disruptions in Russia: Over 300 drones were launched against Russia on Saturday, which halted sports competitions in Yekaterinburg and forced e-commerce giant Wildberries to evacuate staff. The drone war has led to widespread fuel shortages in Russia.

Off-Topic, AI
It would be a disaster if China ultimately “wins” the AI race. At the same time, we in Europe are far behind the USA.
Now, the USA is investigating whether China has simply cheated its way to success by exploiting American models to train its own. We’ll see what this might lead to, but if true, it will of course become significantly harder for them to take over and actually lead the development.
“More and more American companies are abandoning American AI models and instead choosing Chinese ones,” writes AP.
Several of the largest AI companies, such as Anthropic and Open AI, have recently raised costs for users, and Chinese models attract with lower prices. It is notoriously difficult to compare how “good” different models are, but some users also feel that the Chinese alternatives deliver better results.
– It simply feels snappier, says Raffi Krikorian, technical director at Mozilla, who recently switched to the Chinese Moonshots model Kimi K3.”

EU, together with European companies, needs to be inspired by Japan. Not necessarily through direct subsidies and/or grants.
Japan plans to purchase 27,500 so-called Rubin chips from American Nvidia to build its own AI model for robots.

The assignment has been given to the newly started company Noetra, which has received a startup fund from the Japanese government of 387.3 billion yen (approximately 23 billion kronor). Noetra is to build, among other things, a large-scale data center.
Behind Noetra are a number of major Japanese companies such as Softbank, Toyota’s Preferred Networks, and NEC. The target is set on having its own AI model by March 2027.
– Our goal is to build a genuine third alternative – one that Japan and others can choose, says Noetra’s CEO Hironobu Tamb in an interview.
Japan has long been a leading manufacturer of robot systems.

There is a small party in Japan called Team Mirai (Mirai=future “Progress Party”? 😂) that is putting enormous pressure on the government on this issue, which is yielding results.

China steals and avoids the development cost.
Hence cheaper.
And we stand by and applaud. Sad.
A specialty.
It is primarily completely safely state-subsidized.
Wonder how China can afford to subsidize everything from building new cities, electric car manufacturing, solar panels, wind power, yes everything they produce and copy?
Who pays for it all?
Read the other day that China used as much cement in 2019-2020 as the USA used during the entire 20th century.
They actually think they can’t afford it. Time will tell.

Wonder what the Russian peasants think when they have to plow their fields with horses until autumn
Unsettling that Kallas is in talks with Lavrov. Even if it is on Iranian matters. Iran says they cannot leave the attack on the Iranian boat that was shipping weapons to Ryz unanswered. A real declaration of war? In practice, they have been at war for four years.
“Araqchi said he raised the alleged strike during calls with European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.”

I do, however, trust Kallas 💯.
The horse will not get far with its tricks against her.
Or it was that Iran spoke privately with Lavrov and Kallas. In any case, all Iranian deliveries to Russia are legitimate targets.
**These days I have watched, probably, 20–30 videos of Russian entrepreneurs crying over their goods that burned up at Wildberries. Some sell clothes, others bottles and goods for toddlers, and now all those things are ashes. They were not dealing with kamikaze drones or bomb drone release mechanisms, they were selling socks and pacifiers to Russian toddlers. And now they feel completely devastated by what has happened. And you know, no matter how much I tried to pity them, I remember the feeling of standing at the edge of a deep pit and looking at the small bodies of Ukrainian children buried in the mass grave in Bucha. Children, their mothers, men – dozens of civilian Ukrainian people, mercilessly tortured and killed by “simple Russian boys.” And honestly, I cannot recall any apology or any support at all from “simple Russian people” for the crimes committed by their “heroic Russian army” in the Kyiv region, Izium, Kherson, and many other places. In fact, all these crying and devastated Russian people seem to be ordinary taxpayers who invest their money in the Russian war machine, and then pretend they have done nothing wrong. People say that Russians have a very high pain threshold. It turns out they actually do – for other people’s pain. But you know, I have also learned one thing: karma always strikes back.**

Three researchers argue in SVD debate that it would be a mistake to repeal the Ottawa Convention and allow anti-personnel mines.

I drew the same conclusion as you, Pehr, nothing they presented neutralizes the fundamentals, that mines are an absolute must to fight an enemy like the Russian. Another observation I made regarding the so-called researchers is that their last names are not Svensson, Pettersson, or Lundström……..

The strange thing is that this is the only thing that comes up for discussion
Well, civil resistance is probably unnecessarily aggressive? Angry protests (in writing) should be enough?
I think it is a mistake that the state pays their salaries.
