Ukraine has carried out several successful attacks tonight against, among other things, a refinery, a petrochemical plant, and an ammunition depot.

Ukraine has attacked Lukoil’s refinery in Kstovo

There are still no reports on the extent of the damage to the refinery, but there is a video showing significant fire. https://bsky.app/profile/tatarigami.bsky.social/post/3m4ro2nkwzc2z

Explosion at Petrochemical plant in Sterlitamak

Apparently, a part of the factory has collapsed after an explosion. It may not necessarily be Ukraine behind this; it could be due to someone careless. Hoping for more information during the day. https://bsky.app/profile/tatarigami.bsky.social/post/3m4ro2nkzx22z

Ammunition depot in Luhansk explodes after drone visit

Filmed from a distance, hard to gauge the extent, but there are significant explosions. https://bsky.app/profile/babayagafella.bsky.social/post/3m4rjqxzjoc2f

Ukrainian navy attacks Russian equipment on oil rig

An oil rig used by the Russians for surveillance and reconnaissance has been attacked, destroying surveillance equipment and anti-tank missile systems used to defend the oil rig. https://bsky.app/profile/babayagafella.bsky.social/post/3m4rir3iahs2f

Russian losses

Russia continues to suffer significant losses in the war in Ukraine. Today’s report is slightly lower than yesterday’s, but we have five tanks, which is almost unusually high. Artillery and logistics are also at good levels. As for UAVs, I am a bit conflicted. It’s good to have taken out 425 of them, but it also means it has been an intense night with the risk of casualties. We’ll see if there are any reports, but I hope not, of course.

  • 840 KWIA
  • 5 Tanks
  • 1 AFVs
  • 42 Artillery systems
  • 1 MLRS
  • 425 UAVs
  • 93 Vehicles and Fuel tanks
  • 1 Special equipment

  1. AFU reports:
    163 combat clashes
    75 aviation strikes
    147 KAB
    4574 shellings (111 – from MLRS)
    6411 kamikaze drones

Many drones but at the same time there has been a great variation so the average is still somewhat lower than when it was at its highest. The record for one day is 6725.
  2. No update from DeepStateMap yesterday, we’ll see if anything comes up during the day.

The latest from Pokrovsk otherwise shows that the Russians would have a wedge straight into the city. Guessing that it might be more symbolic and that street fighting may be going on in various parts of the central areas.

Northeast of Pokrovsk, they have partly managed to push back the Russians (the blue area at the top of the image). If they can continue to push them back there, the Russian encirclement weakens.

Otherwise, Ukraine has always eventually had to retreat in similar situations when the Russians have encircled towns and cities, for example in Soledar, Bakhmut, and Andriivka.
Of course, I hope that this can end differently (if they have the strength to push back, it would be a huge prestige gain that I think can affect in many ways).

If not, I really hope that they manage to evacuate everyone from the encirclement in time and at the same time cause massive Russian losses. Soledar and Bakhmut are examples where it has cost the Russians enormously, both to take the cities but also to hold them immediately after.

  3. Off-Topic, CO2 emissions

It was unexpected (considering that they still use coal extensively) but positive of course. On the other hand, they emit enormous amounts, it will surely take decades before it has any noticeable significance.

I haven’t seen any information about the USA, but there they are going in the opposite direction, phasing out green energy and investing more heavily in both coal and oil. Perhaps it will turn out that the two cancel each other out.

(Now it might of course get a little tough for those who use China as an excuse to ignore CO2 emissions. 😄 )

“China’s greenhouse gas emissions seem to be declining, reports Ekot. If the trend continues, 2025 could be the first year when the country’s emissions are lower than the year before. This would happen five years earlier than the country has promised.

    – The peak of China’s emissions can be reached right now, says Kate Logan, an expert on China’s climate policy at the Asia Society Policy Institute in Washington.

According to her, the main reason for the reduction is China’s investments in green technology, such as solar energy and batteries. Green technology currently accounts for ten percent of China’s GDP.”

    1. This is how the USA behaves when it comes to efforts to reduce emissions.

“Americans threatened Europeans in UN talks
Negotiators from the USA made personal threats against European negotiators during UN talks in London last month. This is reported by eight sources with insight into the talks to Politico.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) had gathered to discuss taxes on emissions within global maritime trade, which the Trump administration – considering the climate threat a hoax – strongly opposes.

Behind closed doors, the Americans took a tough stance to get the Europeans to fall in line.

      – Our negotiators have never experienced anything like this in international talks. People were called in to the US embassy in London and subjected to intimidation tactics, threats of canceled business contracts, and threats of revoked visas for family members, says one of the sources.

The IMO meeting ended with the decision on emission taxes being postponed for a year.”

      1. This sounds completely crazy, negotiations that instead turn into extortion on an individual level. It’s strange that one of the world’s major democracies is starting to resemble a mafia more and more…..

        1. He also drives puppy influence in the form of domestic political blackmail. The threat here is indeed economic but still completely horrendous.

“US President Donald Trump may withdraw state economic support to New York if the socialist Zohran Mamdani wins the mayoral election. He said this on CBS’s “60 minutes”.

“It will be difficult for me as president to send a lot of money to New York. Because if New York is led by a communist, they will just waste everything we send,” said Trump.

He also took the opportunity to throw a punch at Mamdani that had nothing to do with politics. When the host pointed out that Mamdani had been called a left-wing version of Trump himself, the response was:

“I definitely look much better than he does, don’t I?”
          https://omni.se/trump-hotar-med-indragna-pengar-om-mamdani-vinner/a/GyzvRV

      2. The US’s threats only work as long as they are perceived as either attractive or directly dangerous. On a personal level, I can say that the attractiveness has gone straight to hell. Many of my field’s conferences are often held in the US, but they often move around and then it’s just a matter of choosing another one that is not there at the moment. If I couldn’t go to the US, it’s pretty much indifferent on a personal level. Then of course, some may have built a career and family there.

So right now, the US is somewhere between attractive and directly dangerous, which makes me prefer to just cut ties with them. Unfortunately, today’s regime in Washington seems to function like the Russian one, it only understands if you play hardball.

        1. The USA and Europe should cooperate to be able to stand up to China together, but the way he behaves, it’s probably not just several who think like you on a personal level.
I guess that several leaders and decision-makers both in politics and business are starting to pay attention.

The USA is of course a huge market for many companies, so they probably act mostly based on that, but for those where there are other alternatives to buy or sell to, there are probably several who think twice.

China and Asia are huge markets, and the risk is that the relationships with them will instead be strengthened. Exactly what we really don’t want to see.

          1. You are absolutely right. The reason for my disgust towards the USA is the feeling of betrayal. China has not betrayed me, but that doesn’t mean they are better than the USA.

      3. Typical Trump and his cronies. Bullies and Mafiosos.

Now I don’t know which negotiators he had sent, but I assume they are both loyal and incompetent, which seems to be a criterion for employment in that administration.

If you only have enough violence capital and also economic capital, you don’t need any other arguments, nor listen to other people’s arguments.

Just like in school, the bully can get by for a long time on threats of violence, until they have so many enemies that they get beaten up.

Gone are the days when the USA had a conscience. They have always, of course, put themselves first, but they usually have enough intelligence to argue for their actions, and had trust in science. Now with a regime that idealizes the 50s and ignores all progress made since then, the belief in science is over.

  4. While the total is the same as yesterday, the summed total from each front section is significantly lower. Out of 163 clashes (164 yesterday), 142 (164 yesterday) were distributed along the front as shown below.

As mentioned the other day, and previously noted by Girkin), the question arises about what the “surplus” is about.

One theory is that it concerns Ukrainian counterattacks.

    https://x.com/girkingirkin/status/1979792092693143988?s=46

So, based on this, Ukrainian counterattacks have occurred. One assumption is that one side’s number of attacks decreases when the other side goes on the counteroffensive. In today’s report, we see a clear decrease in Pokrovsk and surrounding sectors.

In the south, however, we see increased pressure, as Johan also pointed out yesterday.

In the direction of Orikhiv, our soldiers repelled two enemy attacks in the areas of Steppnogorsk and Steppove.

In the direction of Prydniprovskij, Ukrainian units repelled two enemy assaults towards the Antonivskij bridge.

In Volyn and Polissya, there are no signs of the attacker forming assault groups.”

  5. The Swedish government is expected to purchase four new frigates with significant firepower, writes SVT News. According to the channel’s information, several weapon manufacturers are competing for the contract worth billions.

New requirements for advanced naval air defense have led to the decision to purchase larger ships than Sweden has ever had before. Each ship costs a two-digit billion amount, and the procurement is described as geopolitics. Sources tell SVT News that several different government departments are already deeply involved in the process.

“This is a deal between states that includes everything from potential offsets to security policy considerations,” says one person.

    1. Sweden is currently facing challenges in manning its warships. It requires more than double crews for each ship. Now, there are plans to expedite the construction of frigates that will require a minimum of 130-150 crew members. The Visby corvettes have a crew of 43. If we consider double crews, that would be around 600 people. How can this be solved in such a short time? Perhaps using the Filipino flag with an Asian crew. Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to “Swedish solutions,” especially in the maritime sector. Will these ships with their bow sonar even enter the Karlskrona naval port? I highly doubt it. Foreign frigates visiting Karlskrona have docked at Werkö alongside Stena’s Polish ferries. And what about the Gripen cooperation with France? It’s probably about signal reconnaissance planes. My advice is to order from Saab Kockum.

      1. Interesting to hear from someone with insight. It’s probably not entirely easy to just shake up a crew. Hopefully, someone has thought it through so there is actually a plan.

        1. It is difficult to recruit and retain these in the fleet. Many new recruits are women and they are very skilled, but then the motherly instinct creeps in and for that reason, many leave.
But the women are very talented. I would like to emphasize that.

  6. There is quite a lot of Russian spam coming through the contact form here on the blog.

  9. Ukrainian forces said on Nov. 3 that they stopped a Russian attempt to advance north of Pokrovsk, a key logistics hub in Donetsk Oblast, which is semi-circled by Russian forces and the site of fierce fighting.

The 7th Rapid Response Corps of Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces said in a statement that assault and special operations units blocked an effort to cut a supply route between Pokrovsk and nearby Rodynske, killing 19 Russian soldiers. The corps added that the situation in adjacent Myrnohrad — critical to the defense of Pokrovsk’s northern flank — was “tense but not critical,” and that additional Ukrainian units had reinforced the area.”

  10. “Ukrainian troops targeted a Russian generator with an FPV drone. The first failed to detonate, and the Russians escaped with the generator, leaving a note that read “f**k you.” But the second drone operator wasn’t done. He scanned the nearby forest, found the generator, and their dugout.”

  11. 🇺🇦😎 GUR soldiers raised the flag of Ukraine over the islands of the Kakhovka reservoir. “Brotherhood” unit, which is part of the “Timur Special Unit” of GUR, carried out a successful reconnaissance and sabotage operation in the “gray zone” on the territory of the former Kakhovka reservoir.

  12. 🇬🇧 UK is ramping up air defence aid for 🇺🇦 Ukraine, backing a new “Octopus” interceptor drone program. Thousands of these drones & hundreds of missiles will be delivered to help defend Ukrainian cities & energy infrastructure from Russia’s winter attacks.

  13. ⚡️Zelensky visited the Pokrovsk frontline. “We discussed many important issues with the military: the situation on the front line, supplies for the positions, logistics, troop rotations, the brigade’s experience, drone development, and the implementation of the 18–24 contract service program.””

  14. Off-Topic, Trump approval rating

The Economist graph looks a bit peculiar. Trump is dropping by 0.1 percent and remains at -18%, although in the graph it appears as if he has increased slightly even though it was -18% last time as well.

In the NYT’s survey, the dissatisfied have increased by 1%. In the graph, it may seem like the satisfied have decreased slightly, but it’s not enough to have surpassed a whole percent. He is at -13% in total.

    1. It could be exciting..

Russia surely sees it as positive that the USA is tied up in a conflict on its home turf, but surely wants to avoid direct conflict with the USA. At the same time, they also want to increase their influence in the region. China also naturally wants to increase its influence and exploit Venezuela’s natural resources.

The USA is naturally against all of that.

If Venezuela has been equipped with modern Russian and especially Chinese weapons, it might not be as easy as Trump thinks.

I don’t think Trump can imagine letting Russia or China gain a foothold so close to the USA, and I am surprised that Trump has not expressed outrage over Russia and China’s more or less involvement. He just continues to blame drug trafficking and Maduro.

I think there will be some sort of weapon rattling, but I believe that Russia and China will back down at some point, after all, it is outside their territory.

  15. 🇷🇺 🇻🇪 Russia is already supplying weapons to Venezuela and “sees no obstacles” to transferring the new Oreshnik ICBM

“Russia is actually one of Venezuela’s key military-technical partners. We supply the country with nearly the entire range of weapons, from small arms to aviation. The details and volumes of deliveries are classified, so the Americans might be in for a surprise.

I see no obstacles to providing our friendly nation with new systems such as the Oreshnik or the well-proven Kalibr missiles. No international commitments restrict Russia in this regard,” said Alexei Zhuravlyov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee.

He added that an Il-76 transport plane recently delivered Pantsir-S1 and Buk-M2E missile systems to Caracas.

Two days ago, reports emerged that a Russian Il-76 military transport aircraft had arrived in Venezuela. The plane belongs to Aviacon Zitotrans, a company linked to the Wagner Group.

  16. 🇻🇪 🇷🇺

Media: Iran has the most advanced air defenses in the region, supplied by Russia.

Israel: Wipes out Iran’s entire air defense network without losing a single plane.

Russia: We’re sending air defenses to Venezuela.

    U.S.:

    1. I have been wondering if China has smuggled anything through Russia to Venezuela?

Now, their equipment is untested but supposed to be good, according to themselves.

  17. Ukraine’s first separate medical battalion has carried out a never-before-seen evacuation mission with the help of a ground robot vehicle equipped with an armored capsule.

The operation involved rescuing a wounded defender who had been left in enemy-controlled territory for 33 days after being injured. Six previous attempts to rescue him had failed, and six robot systems had been lost in the process. The seventh mission finally succeeded, and the soldier was able to be evacuated from the occupied area.

On the way out, the robot platform triggered an anti-personnel mine, damaging one of its wheels, but it still continued its mission. During the return journey, the vehicle was attacked by a Russian drone, but the armored capsule protected the wounded soldier and prevented further injuries.

In total, the robot system covered 64 kilometers, of which 37 kilometers were on a damaged wheel.

The evacuated individual was brought to safety, received medical care, and is now in stable condition – his life is no longer in danger.

    1. Morally uplifting to see that no one is left behind. But what a disgusting journey to lie in that capsule for over six miles at walking speed in the middle of a war zone.

    1. With the corruption among the officers, with losses not only from Ukraine’s resistance but also from pure suicide missions without protection or even weapons, it is difficult to understand how Russia can conduct warfare at all.

  18. What ENORMOUS logistics one must have to be able to use this amount of drones and other indirect fire everywhere on all fronts every day.

  19. It is completely incomprehensible that this war is ongoing now towards the end of 2025.

Why Russia never got to lose under Biden would be interesting to know – no politician ever tells the truth, right?

    Maybe we can guess Trump?

It’s almost like Ukraine ruined the plan for a new cold war 😀

    1. I want to remember that it was sausages and laws that you don’t want to know how they are made in order to maintain respect for the result. But you can probably replace laws with politics. And when Trump is honest or when details leak, large parts of the world react with a “good grief”, even though it’s probably as you say.

And to go even more off topic, get a similar feeling in Sweden, we send aid to the UN to be able to deport criminals from Somalia, becomes a scandal in the media, but no one has previously cared about where aid money has gone. How much did Zimbabwe and other corrupt poor nations receive to vote Sweden into the UN Security Council?

  20. Character traits are what I’m looking for.

On every project I’ve been on, there are always some people from India or MENA either at the customer, with us as consultants, or as entrepreneurs.

Consistently, they never follow the rules/practices/routines but rather sniff out an opening, rush into it, and then accelerate until they hit a roadblock, always with a different motive than doing their job to the best of their ability or what is good for the project.

    Very un-Swedish in other words.

Sometimes they fail and get kicked out, and sometimes they have managed to form alliances so they win, and I have learned the hard way.

Chinese people have worked in the same way – there are no walls, they just try things out and what works is good.

I believe that Russia and China will continue to operate like this, advancing their positions until they hit a roadblock.

    1. Good and vivid description. 👍 The Russians gape and threaten us with their red lines. At the same time, they run around like trolls, digging where our red lines go.

  21. Operational information about the task force grouping “East” at 7:00 PM on November 4, 2025

“In the direction of Pokrovsk, the occupiers have made 27 attempts since the beginning of the day to push back our defenders from their positions. The defense forces are holding back the enemy’s attacks and have already stopped 23 assaults.

In Pokrovsk, search and attack operations continue, as well as coordinated work by all parts of Ukraine’s security and defense forces. The enemy is suffering losses. The city is not surrounded. Logistics are indeed complicated, but ensured.

Search and attack operations to detect and destroy the enemy’s DRG in Pokrovsk are ongoing. Operators from unmanned system forces and assault troops have been engaged. Groups from special operations forces, VSP, SBU, and GUR MO Ukraine are also operating in the city.

    The fighting continues!
    Glory to Ukraine!”

  22. Zelenskyy:

“The control center for the 7th rapid response unit within the Ukrainian Army’s ground forces. I listened to the military reports on the situation in the Pokrovsk area and awarded the defenders with honors – the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky of the III degree and the Order of “For Bravery” of the II-III degree. The soldiers are defending Ukraine on a very important and hot front. Thank you for that. It is very important, because it is not just about our country. It is primarily about the enemy’s psychological pressure on our state and all our allies. And much is decided right on this front.

The military reported on the situation in the Pokrovsk area, the stabilization of the defense line, and the cooperation with neighboring units. The enemy continues to increase its efforts and carry out storm actions in Pokrovsk. We paid attention to strengthening our defense and providing the soldiers with everything necessary.

I thank the defenders for their service, all those who hold the positions and do their utmost to protect our country.”

  23. AFU🇺🇦:

“⚡️A petrochemical plant, an oil refinery in the Nizhny Novgorod region of Russia, and a fuel and lubricant depot in the occupied part of the Kherson region have been hit.

⚡️As part of reducing the military and economic potential of the Russian aggressor, units from the Ukrainian defense forces struck the infrastructure of the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez company (Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod region, Russia) during the night of November 4th. The maximum processing capacity of the refinery in Nizhny Novgorod is 18 million tons per year. The facility is used to supply the Russian occupation army.

Hits on the facility’s territory and a fire in the target area have been recorded. The extent of the damage is being investigated.

⚡️Also, the joint-stock company Sterlitamakskej neftehimicheskej zavod in Bashkortostan, Russia, has been hit. The company is the largest manufacturer of components for aviation fuel used in the production of high-quality aviation fuel.

According to preliminary information, one of the company’s workshops has suffered significant damage. This petrochemical plant is part of the Russian holding company Roskhim. The extent of the damage is being investigated.

⚡️Furthermore, the results of the hits in the previous days have been confirmed. Thus, hits have been made in the temporarily occupied area of the Kherson region against the Russian occupiers’ fuel and lubricant depots. The enemy’s losses amounted to nearly twenty flexible tanks (about 900 m3 of fuel and lubricants) and two pump stations.”
